If Quen knew she was having straight-up prophetic dreams, she would so incredibly insufferable about it. She would be using that power for evil guaranteed. Like pretending that she had a vision of Jon wearing one of those little sailor costumes, or that it's prophesized that he'll die a maidenless virgin (jokes on her, because seemingly everyone in the north either wants to kill him or jump his bones).

On a more serious note, Theon canonically has prophetic dreams of shit like the Red Wedding. In the canon of Sow the Tide, Quen gets her fucked up visions from her Farwynd grandma (but one can also interpret Grammy Farwynd's ability to predict storms as her skin-changing animals that have that sort of sensing ability- like certain birds). One woman's stress dreams are another woman's Portents of Doom, basically. The gods have been ringing Quen, warning her about the mortal danger she's in, but she just keeps saying "wrong number" and hanging up. RIP!

thinking about. arya. and just. gaaahhrghh i miss her. and im reeaaally looking forward to seeing her again. obviously in this fic she has a more significant relationship w/ quen, her and sansa both. and i DO want to see them reunited.

but that got me thinking. abt canon arya and theon and. idk idk ive seen a lot of ppl talk abt jon and theon being narrative foils of each other, and im not arguing against that. but i think it would be cool if winds of winter had a scene of them (arya and theon) sitting down to just. talk. about life and death and names and gender and religion, yk? (a girl serves death while reek clings to life like a craven)

this is in part inspired by the bullshit take i saw the other day saying arya was gonna mercy kill theon in twow bc NO.

ALSO back to quen (sort of?) i keep on going back to her lighting a candle at the sept for the stranger, whos description is just so painfully similar to the faceless men,, idk man. just thoughts.

I've missed Arya too!!!! (And Sansa, but we'll get there eventually, I promise!) I even (tentatively) have an Arya POV chapter planned later on. She's not alright, but she'll end this fic in a much better place than canon at least, with her mother and all her siblings living.

Arya and Quen have a lot to talk about (and they will probably understand each other's desperate fights for survival better than most), just as Arya and Theon have a lot of shared themes of life/death/identity (as you rightly point out!) I would love some kind of interaction between Theon, Arya, and Jeyne Poole in TWOW (and not some dumbass "mercy kill" of either Theon or Jeyne as I have also seen some people posit). "Men's lives have meaning, not their deaths" is the true thesis of ASOIAF, and I think Theon surviving until the end is wayyy more interesting on a story level.

The only mercy kil I kinda buy is Arya giving Lady Stoneheart the gift of mercy. Not cause I want that to happen, or think that it would be "cool", because honestly? I think it would be incredibly traumatizing for both Arya and us, the readers. Which is why I think it'll happen, unfortunately.

Oh, I definitely don't think it was unintentional on GRRM's part that the Stranger and the Faceless Men are described so similarly ;-) I also kinda agree with some theories about the Drowned God being "the Great Other". Quen's relationship with religion is so fraught and layered, but I think both she and Arya feel a lot of kinship with that god which is not quite human, outcast and misunderstood, etc.

but uh. i know we joke a lot about quen being rodricks pseudo daughter but. rodrick does actually have a daughter. beth. lil beth cassel(the very same one theon threatened to hang in canon lmao) so my question is- is she ok???? is she alive????? i dont remember if she survived the og sack of winterfell but gods. pls let her be well.

Girl and girlie are gender-neutral TO ME! Just like man, guy, and dude. For the record tho, I'm fine with any pronouns. I like the genderless mystique that internet anonymity allows for.

Oh, don't you worry, I've been thinking about Beth too ;-) (Actually. Maybe you should worry. I'm a little bit evil. But only a little!) Her fate is unknown in canon, but Ramsay allegedly "saved" a lot of the women and children during the sack of Winterfell (we know Kyra survived for a certainty, at least for a while, but we don't know about Old Nan, Beth, etc.).

What Ramsay did with his prisoners afterward is... unknown. Nothing good! That said, Ser Rodrik will be Very Interested in finding out what happened to his daughter and the rest of those in Winterfell, so things will go down very differently in this fic.
