Tech and Rev's relationship (and why the series' dynamic is perfect)
Coming out another round of posts talking about the relationship between the characters from both the original series and my Loonatics AU. This may be the longest, but I hope you like it. And as usual, any questions or anything like that, comments or reblogs are always welcome.
Tumblr media
I was in doubt about who I should do first... If I should talk about Ace and Lexi's relationship and how I changed it so they were siblings or talk about Rev and Tech's relationship and how perfect it was in the series. I decided to talk about this second one because... Rev is my favorite and their relationship is one of the ones I like the most, apart from something that happened in the second season, but I'll talk about that later... Given the explanations, let's start talking about the relationship between Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner...
We all know the eternal "rivalry" between the Coyote and the Roadrunner, one of the references of the old chase cartoon and one of the most famous cartoon duos. But, one characteristic that these cartoons have is, in addition to the meaningless humor jokes, the fact that the cartoon is completely silent. This really gave the cartoon its charm, making the characters interact without the need for words. At most, there were the Roadrunner's "Beep Beep" and sometimes they used signs. Apart from that, nothing... Is that bad? No... The real problem is the Roadrunner itself... I'm not saying that I don't like the character or that he's a problem, I love him as much as Coyote, but when it comes to analyzing his personality it's difficult... Because he doesn't have a defined one.
The creator of the doubt himself, Chuck Jones, has mentioned a few times that the Roadrunner is not a character, he is a one-dimensional force that exists to be the Coyote's objective. I will say that, yes... There are shorts that show the "personality" of the Roadrunner, like him sometimes being a bit "sadistic" or having compassion for the Coyote, but apart from that... Nothing... This is in the original shorts, because there is The Looney Tunes Show, in the duo's 3D shorts, which showed that the Roadrunner was considerably like Jerry from Tom and Jerry. He's a bit clever and he likes to torment Coyote from time to time. But I don't think it's concrete.
Tumblr media
If we consider, now, the Coyote... There is a passage in Chuck Jones' biography where he mentioned that he got the idea for a documentary about coyotes. He made Coyote that way, always hungry, friendless and hopeless, but still a cunning being, inspired by a documentary he saw. There were also some rules written for working on the characters and one of the passages called the Coyote a "fanatic", someone who is so obsessed with the goal that he missed the main point of it. So there's this other factor to his personality...
Tumblr media
Okay, having already talked about the original duo, let's see their version in Loonatics Unleashed...
In the original Loonatics series, there is a subversion in Tech and Rev's relationship, we see that, despite one or two disagreements, they are indeed good friends. Rev is literally the only person who understands when Tech speaks in technical language, he is almost like his lab assistant and, at no point is the rivalry between his ancestors mentioned... In the first season, because in the second... First, with the change in the design proposal this season, the stories became sillier, even though they had a narrative direction, and some personalities were changed along with the relationships. Especially Rev and Tech, who went from good friends who had a disagreement or two, to two people who literally have a disagreement or fight every five minutes. This happens in some episodes and it even became a joke for Tech to often make Rev stop talking, and in the first season the only time this happened was in the first episode... But it was supposed to show that Rev was a chatterbox, so it makes sense because it's a joke that shows a trait of the character. In the second season, this joke became constant...
However, so as not to say that I'm just complaining, let's talk about one of the best episodes... "Family Business" is, without a doubt, one of the best episodes of the second season and of the series in general. And here it addresses the rivalry between the Coyote and the Roadrunner in a way that, at first, seems like a reference, but there is a detail that I saw many people notice... And no, it's not Shipp... I'm talking about the "Coyote Issues" of Rev's family that many fans see as a certain "racism" on the part of the roadrunners, so much so that Rev feels bad about it. And there are some comments from Ralph where he says things like "It's good to see a coyote who knows his limitations...", which makes Tech extremely insulted and angry. This topic is not addressed again in the episode, but there is this light message... And I am aware that Tech and Rev's shipp is extremely popular in the community, but I will not go into that part here.
Tumblr media
Now, let's move on to my AU and what I changed in their relationship...
To start off, I want to mention that their personalities haven't changed here, but I've added an extra layer to their personalities. Teodoro E. Coyote (aka Technous "Tech" Latrans) is a social idiot. He doesn't know how to socialize with people, and the few friendships he had were always very toxic (especially with Mallory/later known as Mastermind), which made him suspicious of everyone. Besides that, he was also always judged for being a predatory animal, a miserable animal that was not trusted, but who always tried to go against these concepts, working three times harder to prove it. When he met the Loonatics, along with Ace, he was one of the most difficult to live with, because he is not good at interacting and expressing himself, despite the fact that he does care about everyone.
On the opposite side, we have Rev Runner (or Red Lightning) who was born into the "golden cradle" of a financially stable and successful family, but, as he was the oldest, he was always charged more by his father. Here, he has some serious anxiety issues, not exactly to the point of having frequent panic attacks, but he's always afraid of disappointing someone or not being good enough. Is This sometimes makes him try to prove himself, and when he becomes a hero, his fear and anxiety solidify even more. Despite being the epitome of extroversion and being very talkative, he remained afraid of disappointing his friends, especially Zadavia. But there was another problem...
Tumblr media
He had an instinctive fear of coyotes, with his father always talking about how they were scary creatures that hunted them in the past, so he, at first, always avoided Tech when he could. However, over time and with some interactions here and there, Rev began to interact lightly with Tech, sometimes praising his inventions or giving him certain recommendations to improve some of his devices. Until, finally, arriving on a mission where only Rev and Tech were sent, which at first was a somewhat complicated interaction... There would be a moment when he would question Rev's "fear" for him... And I can only compare this scene to Judy and Nick from Zootopia... But in the end, they would finally understand each other and become friends. Which is a good contrast to their personalities, with Tech being more reserved and Rev being more lively. Although they still tease each other from time to time...
Tumblr media
Well, guys... That's it! There's still a lot to learn about the friendship between these two, I've only scratched the surface of it and its development, but that's enough for today... BYEEEE!!!!

Ace and Tech Relationship (And how to subvert a dynamic)
Since the repercussions of Duck and Ace's relationship were reasonably good and you seemed interested, I'll continue. This time, there's a good relationship in the series, but I want to work on something different. Any questions, suggestions or anything like that, reblog or comment on the blog. ^^
Tumblr media
Here again I'm talking about the relationship between my characters from my Loonatics Unleashed AU, this time it's Tech and Ace. I already have Lexi and Ace ready too, so stay tuned. And taking the dynamics of Bugs Bunny and the Coyote as a basis... We can begin!
For the few who don't know (maybe they really don't know, but let's see...), there were some shorts that the Coyote and Bugs Bunny had together and that, basically... He was just another one who wanted to eat him, literally... The difference here is that the Coyote, in this version (in addition to being given the name Wile E. Coyote) he spoke, and quite a bit. There was also a somewhat drastic change in his characterization, in which he was a genius and boasted of being, in addition to being a genius, a hunter... And this was unbearable for Bugs Bunny to hear, in "Operation Rabbit", in their first "dialogue", Bugs Bunny couldn't say anything and it was so boring that I think he was going to fall asleep in a while. But the fact that he is very arrogant and so convinced of his ability ends up falling into the same problem as Tom (from Tom and Jerry), which is... He is so confident of himself that he ends up underestimating his prey and acting like an idiot.
Bugs Bunny, on the other hand, we already know... Centered and rarely loses his cool, even in dangerous situations, with one or two exceptions. Here with Coyote, it's no different... There are even some shorts where they exchange provocations and jokes with each other, so it's both a battle of strategy and dialogue at times. Now, going to Loonatics Unleashed...
Tumblr media
Going back to the original Loonatics Unleashed, Tech and Ace's relationship is well explored, but not exactly very deep. It's the "leader and partner" relationship, in the sense of...Tech respects Ace's authority and Ace respects Tech's genius, with one or two moments when the rabbit doesn't understand what his partner is saying (but I do understand, the only one who understands is Rev... -3-). There is no mention of the rivalry between the species, unlike Rev (in this case, his family) who does have a mention in one episode. It would be interesting to comment on at least something like that... Now, my version... And, in the same vein as Duck and Ace, let's invert the dynamic...
Tumblr media
Briefly commenting on Alec Bunny (aka Ace Portal), since I had already talked about him in a previous blog... Ace is a character who is arrogant and very self-centered to hide his insecurities, also being impulsive in many things and picking fights with someone when he can. At least, in my version... Now speaking in more depth... He is a person who does not understand the gravity of their mission and, in tense moments, he always tries to make a joke to lighten the mood, but ends up making everything worse. Besides the fact that all his egotism makes him brag about his achievements and greatly exaggerate some things in the story, which can make him unbearable.
Now, as we speak of Teodoro E. Coyote (or Technous Latrans, also nicknamed "Tech"), he is a much more reserved person and is very centered, going by the reason of things. Also having a good intuition to identify lies, whether from villains or from people close to you. Like Duck, he is observant, but more in the sense of improvising things, like improvising a plan or a weapon in the middle of the fight. And he's also a good aimer... But, he's also not very good at interacting with people, being a "social idiot" at times. Interacting with people like Ace is unbearable for him and he can't go more than three minutes without feeling sleepy from interacting with Ace.
You can already understand... Ace tries to be a "cool hero leader", who is super capable and can achieve everything, while Tech sometimes stays quiet, ignoring him or refuting a lot of things in his stories. It's not bad on the level of Ace and Duck (which they do have, their relationship is AWFUL)... But still, they don't get along very well. The contrast between an arrogant and impulsive personality and a more reserved and focused one ends up creating some problems between them.
Tumblr media
Well, folks... That's basically it! Any questions or comments, again... Reblog, comment or do anything similar on the blog. The next relationship I'll talk about is, perhaps, Ace and Lexi. Or maybe Tech and Rev, who knows? That's it... BYE!!! ^^

Hi Segamarkiii I'm sorry for bothering you but I have a question for you. Why are you shipping Tech x Rev? I mean I love this ship to and it's my first gay ship but why are you like it?
Again sorry if I'm bothering you. Have a good day.
I like the way their dynamic was in the show. They meshed so well together, and to a lot of people (me included) we saw them as something more than just friends.

Yeah, I saw it, I agree with everything and I also have some reservations to add (which isn't just the fact that they're carbon copies of the Looney Tunes characters).
Ace: He really doesn't have much personality, he's the generic protagonist... The fact that he's always the center of attention may be due to the fact that he's a descendant of Bugs Bunny, so the writers put him in the role, even though he doesn't even have the personality to play that role.
Lexi: She does have some characteristics that are, like... Interesting... She likes video games and, unlike some others, she's not an exact copy of Lola Bunny (although I don't even remember what she looked like in Space Jam...). But still, it's hard to defend her...
Duck: There's also the problem that, throughout the series, he doesn't change at all, he continues to be quite a jerk and doesn't evolve at any point. And, for an arrogant and problematic character, it's interesting that he evolves over time...
Tech: I can't even measure how much I HATE Deus Ex-Machina as a narrative excuse and there are few times when this trope ends up convincing me...
Rev: The only problem is he doesn't get any screen time... My favorite... TuT
Slam: There's even a way to make a character who doesn't speak interesting, the problem is that Slam is literally Taz, so it's really boring... Besides not speaking, he doesn't have his own personality...
The biggest issue with every main character in Loonatics unleashed
(Made by someone who enjoyed Loonatics unleashed)
Ace Bunny: Suffered from chronic protagonist syndrome where he was undeniably central to the team and plot, however didn't have a very discernable personality or flaws
Lexi Bunny: Suffers from "only girl on the team syndome" where she basically had as much personality as ace (except with added "girly" traits), however less important plot relevance.
Danger Duck: The show's punching bag and can never have anything good happen to him
Tech E. Coyote: The writer's favorite to a fault, takes all the characterization and development for himself. Invents deus ex machina machines that fix every problem, making the rest of the team feel less important by comparison.
Rev Runner:
Slam: The fact he can't speak and is basically just a strong meatshield means he is shoved to the sidelines unless something needs lifting.
