Since Ichigo dies at about 15, and Hatake get their marks at like 14? what do her clan markings look like? 👀
OHHH OK THIS IS ACTUALLY A WHOLE THING, SO,
Ichigo got moon stripes !! It's also known as the story teller stripes, and is the traditional tattoos of the Hatake clan's religious leader and story keeper. Which Ichigo does end up in training to become!
There's actually a bit of drama with the fact that Yuki, the current clan shaman, is so old (she's in her 70's, which is basically like being in her 120's for a shinobi), and she's only now picking an apprentice in Ichigo.
Yuki did actually have an apprentice before, who was fully trained and set up to take up the position whenever Yuki died— but they were one of the 5 Hatake to die to illness the winter before the Hatake were summoned to iron court (which is the event that got the ball rolling on the Hatake joining Konoha a year or two later)
Yuki settled on Ichigo being her next apprentice relatively quickly after that, but wouldn't actually tell anyone about it for some more years— stubbornly staying quiet on the topic even when pressed with increasingly stressed and worried questions about it. Ichigo was only about 8 at the time, but Yuki set to training her just a little bit under the table
It was easy enough, when Ichigo was always happy to listen to her stories and gossip about past and present events. Ichigo kind of ended up soaking in a lot of things she'd be expected to learn in the role (religious rights / mythos of spirits and gods / traditions and why they do them / stories passed down through the family / etc.) naturally throughout the years.
Finally, Ichigo turned 14 and lead her first hunt— the marker of a Hatake coming of age. Afterwards, it was Yuki's job to give her the stripes Yuki deemed to 'fit her best,' which is ofc when she gave her the moon stripes and officially announced her plans with a "teehee congrats <3"
It wasn't actually too much of a surprise to those who'd been paying attention to what had been going on, but still caught some off guard. Ichigo had been "training" for like, 6 whole years at that point, without even realizing it. So she was honestly pretty well into her education on the roll, and would probably only need a few more years afterwards to be deemed officially ready to take it on
But then ofc, she dies a year later. And Yuki dies in very quick succession. (Losing her third apprentice, and so old already, had done terrible things to her heart and spirit) And with both of them went a very large portion of the clans history.
Others in the clan, of course, still knew plenty. Yuki's teachings had not been for Ichigo alone, and many had sat by her side and listened to her stories as well. But no single person knew as much as they had or had been in the same position of authority to do things like honoring the spirits of their ancestors or assigning Hatake stripes to their young.
In their deaths, Haruka had to take up many of their duties, mostly by default via being the highest other figure of respect in that regard. But they lost a lot.
There's some sort of interesting point to be made that the Hatake's religious leader wears tattoos that symbolize a red moon. And that Kaguya-hime is among the gods they pay respects to.
I don't really have any real thoughts on it other than going "hmm." and writing that down to reference later, but like !! That's something
anyways Yuki herself is also pretty cute, I find myself enjoying her immensely, so take this art I drew for her the other day that I've been looking for an excuse to post:
#THANK U FOR UR ASK I LOVE TALKING AB MY SILLY LITTLE GUYS IT MAKES ME HAPPY THAT UR CURIOUS ENOUGH TO ASK#one day I will get far enough into writing one step three steps and then I will laugh maniacally as I write Ichigo going#“well Im not really supposed to do this but !!” as she tries to assign Kakashi his own Hatake stripes#and does a ritual she doesnt realize she's technically more qualified than most of her other clanmates to do#via painting them for kakashi#itll be fun !!! I have art planned for it too#give kakashi his own stripes !!!!#he deserves it !!!!#yuki herself is a bit of an easter egg for me I must admit.#bc shes actually a very old original oc of mine I just made into an old lady for this#she has a twin brother (dead here)#which I think plays nicely into this sort of “the Hatake's have a pair of lucky twins every generation” thing#that Ive had going on in the back of my head for a while#Yuki had a twin / Haruka had a twin (tbrm's mother) / Haru and Hiro#theres one for about every generation or every other one#I think it also reflects interestingly on their low birthrates and fertility issues#Bc even while they have that going on theres ALWAYS a pair of “lucky Hatake twins”#i think its fun#and then we get to sakumo / kakashi's generation and theres no more twins. damn. no wonder the hatake died they lost their lucky twins :(#naruto#naruto oc#hatake oc#hatake clan#hatake clan lore#wolves of the woods#hatake ichigo#hatake yuki#birds art#birds ocs#hatake

gently and patiently sitting and perhaps waiting for an artigas the pitt fic drop
you don't know how much this made me smile!! i'm . . i'm four pages and 1400 words in. I don't even know what came over me this morning, because this literally couldn't be a busier, more inconvenient time to get into writing a fic but i just couldn't help it!!
you didn't ask for details but ... permission to yap?? i'm having so much fun writing them both in their 20's. i'm not usually a backstory girl, but i wanted to dig into their history because 1) we know they have a rich history together and 2) apparently the writers imagined that they were rivals before they were friends?? and so naturally i thought ... what if they hooked up before they became rivals before they became friends before they became co-dads to the pittsburgh trauma medical hospital. what then.
so, anyways, they're meeting in a sweaty lil gay club in the summer of '97 before robby leaves pittsburgh for his residency in nola and abbott enlists. and then, if i have the spoons (fingers crossed) and anyone gives a shit (fingers doubly crossed), I'd like to write their reunion in their 30's (part 2) and how their relationship shifts and changes up through the present (part 3)!! and if i'm any good at getting any of this done, i'm hoping it'll be sappy and emotional and saucy and full of pining (my fave)
#robby x abbot#the pitt#i dont trust myself so i'm going to work on writing part 1 and part 2 before i publish part 1#and also ... also my diss. advisor told me to take the month off from academic work so technically writing this fic is my assignment

do u have any writing tips dar??? Ur stories are immaculate
nonnie?? that's so sweet of you to say, thank you😭🩷 in general, a lot comes to mind bc there's so many different components to writing (i.e dialogue, characterisation, structure,, even mindset!!) so if you want to hear abt anything specific pls lmk🥺 for now tho, i've summarised a few across the subject that i think are helpful, and they will be below the cut bc i'm shit at explaining things, so i ended up writing a lot hhh
i also wanna point out that these are just things that i've personally made note of over the years from my own experiences + being friends w/ other writers, but that doesn't mean they will apply to everyone!! more than anything, i always believe that you shouldn't let other ppl dictate how you do and enjoy things, so if smth works for you and you like it, there's nothing wrong w/ that even if it contradicts an opinion you got from some rando on the internet (a.k.a. me😔💔)
Know your game
I'd like to say that in writing, there's a vein of liberty that isn't echoed in very many other creative fields; a lot of the times you can go in blind, and still make something of it because the nature of fiction is liquid — if you can imagine it, it can work. So to say, I find that nine times out of ten, room for improvement doesn't necessarily lie in the content of someone's writing, and more so its execution.
You could play a desultory game of chess without knowing all the rules, but if you wanted it to be your best match, you'd have to be aware of every move you could make, no? What you do from there then becomes a matter of choice, and choice is a landmark divider between doing something and being good at doing something. There's a difference in omissions due to lacking the technical knowledge, and omissions made because you are aware they are optimal.
Knowledge on the fundamentals of literature will always serve you, and that isn't to say you have to study all forms and contexts, but if you want to write a story, for example, it will always help to know the common elements of one. Grammar, punctuation, structure — brushing up on those things will build your toolkit, and once you've got that, you have the self-autonomy to decide what to use from it. My three favourite writers only use commas and full stops, and their works are, on all levels, spectacular. Still, if you asked them how to use a semi-colon, they'd be able to tell you.
Appreciating the basics will also tie into your creative exploration as a writer, which is a cornerstone in developing your distinctive writing style. I doubt a person in any type of craft hasn't heard a variation of know the rules before you break them, so studying until you do, inside out, remains beneficial to both new and old writers alike.
2. Have a starting point
This tip is fairly applicable to a range of different types of writing, and how one would practice it depends strongly on individual preference and styles of working. Some people like to plan things out thoroughly whilst others, including myself, like to dive in headfirst, and there's nothing wrong with either approach. The commonality between both types of writer is that regardless, they will have at least a vague idea of where to start from — a scene that they've bullet-pointed prior, a lyric that resonated with them, a mental image, an emotion or even just a single word that everything branches from. What all these details achieve is writing that has motion, because you have something of substance to piggyback you to an end point (the establishment of which is also important, but I will not be covering in this post).
3. Decide a structure
Again, this can be done both comprehensively or as simply as just having the thought to adhere to a certain method. As you gain more experience as a writer, you'll begin to understand what works best for you and create a system of your own, but starting out, there are a number of templates that have already been established by writers that you can follow, and find by researching. What matters most is that by using one — whichever it may be — you're turning your text into a story.
As an example, I'll detail two that I use regularly, in their simplest forms for the sake of brevity:
A linear narrative moves from point A to point B, and from point B to point C, etc. and all subsequent points build on the previous ones until your goal is reached. It's a system that works well for shorter pieces because it has a definite structure, like a length of spine and its individual vertebrae (and although we're talking about writing here, I think Newton's Third Law of Motion sums it up very well: every action has a reaction.)
A coalescing narrative considers all points as separate elements that may or may not always interact, but all contribute to the end point to different extremes. It's a useful template for creating depth in a piece, but due to its complexity, is better applied to longer projects.
They are visualised respectively below.

4. Iterate
If you think of your first draft as a block of clay, everything you do to it will equate to it being moulded and shaped, and if you think of your first draft as a skeleton, everything you do to it will equate to flesh being put on the bones. If you want your piece to be the best it can be, there's a sort of detachment you must have from it, where you won't have the fear of changing it until it is in the image of what you have intended. Write and rewrite, add things, take them away, make a separate copy for every edit if that makes it easier for you, but keep working it until you are happy.
Iteration doesn't just apply to drafts — chapters, paragraphs, sentences and even singular words can be given the same treatment. When you pick up the habit, the process becomes second-nature and you'll find that the first lines you put down are the ones that make it into the final piece, and that is in light of sorting through the renditions unconsciously. Additionally, you don't have to do things in one sitting; sometimes taking a break and coming back to your writing with a fresh outlook is valuable.
5. Analyse and apply
One piece of advice I always see given when someone asks how to improve their writing is to read more, and though it is — at its core — a tip worth acknowledging, it always comes across as unserviceable to me. There is nothing that reading will change for you if you are not actively practicing the things you learn, or even actively learning to begin with. So to address it as a matter of semantics, I feel it's best put as studying the writing of others, as opposed to reading.
If you have a favourite author, go over their works twice — once as a reader to identify what you like about them, and then again as a writer to identify why you like those things. To put it into context, if I read something and decided that I enjoyed how clear and easy to understand it was, I'd do a second pass to figure out the attributing qualities. Perhaps it's the use of punctuation, chosen sentence forms or even the simplicity of words used. My first tip of knowing different literary fundamentals is complementary here, because it makes the analysis and application of isolated features that much more smooth, and also means you'd be able to adapt them into your own style instead of just copying the other writer, which is what you want to avoid.
(Some writers I personally recommend studying are @ozzgin, @monstersholygrail, @aayakashii and @urprettylildoe for readability and clarity in execution, @moyazaika, @carnivorousyandeere and @purerae for characterisation and dialogue, @suiana and @unhappy-last-resort for engaging plots and concepts, and @sabotsen and @lirational for word choice.)
#lovenotesfromdar#one more informal piece of advice bc i focused a lot on the technicalities here but it's also super important to be kind to yourself!!#just the other day i was editing the doc w/ sun's story in it so my friend could beta read and i spent a lot of time#beating myself up about the quality of writing not being consistent across some of the chapters and i got over myself eventually but i thin#k it's so easy for writers to fall into the mindset that they are the sum of all their works and if you fall short on one or it isn't up to#par with your standard you can get angry and frustrated w/ yourself and stuff#but truth be told; you're not always going to be at your best bc things happen#you're gonna have bad days and days where you're super tired or things have been shitty#days where you're stressed out or feeling emotional#and days where you wanna quit#and you'll write on those days and the outputs aren't going to be mirrors of your works on your best days bc at the end of the day we are#only human and things impact us and though you might be the same person holding the pen each time what you're able to create will obviously#change w/ the amount of boulders on your back as a figure of speech#so also be patient w/ yourself is my last tip#okay that's it i will legally change my name to waffletron3000 now this was not meant to get this long lmao i have two assignments due#also sorry to everyone i tagged at the end😭

Character relations/opinions!
Alright before I post any more Battle Addict stuff I should probably explain what a League Council is. Here's a summarized diagram:
A Pokemon League is a region's network of specialized skilled trainers. It is run by the League Council, which includes finance, HR, marketing, PR, and other managing departments which are divided into different branches depending on who they work with.
This is all to say that everything gets messy very quickly when news of the diagnosis spreads through the network. Originally the diagnosis was supposed to be private information for only the Battle and League departments, however certain higher ups felt it was a safety risk and notified gym leaders as well in the event of future collaborations.
The network is mostly divided into people who are positive/neutral about the news, and people who feel negatively about the twins as a result. Coworkers who were already familiar/close with the two tend to be positive, or at least supportive, whereas those who didn't know them got another reason to avoid them. Some people think they should go on leave for "recovery", but some are more forward and want them terminated.
If you're wondering where Cynthia falls in this, she's a foreign top league worker (Sinnoh Champion) who is hosted in Unova. Basically she has dept. employees assigned to help her connect to people around the region and get different services if requested. She's basically watching everything unfold from the sidelines, with every interview about her opinion boiling down to "lol if you're scared of people stronger than you then get good". She does also bring up historic accounts of CM/HCCM though, mostly to clarify that CM is not a new or scary thing. She's not for or against the twins, rather just hoping to use this as an opportunity to teach others.
I didn't end up drawing her because I got tired but Elesa got the news too!! She actually got it before everyone else since the twins decided to go tell her beforehand. The general scene basically had Ingo and Emmet deliberating in the car, Ingo telling Emmet it's not too late to turn around and go home while Emmet was hesitant but adamant that they needed to tell her first. She probably took it the worst out of everyone but that's mostly just cause it caught her off guard that her friends would just randomly drop in to deliver the news. She's still rooting for them though, mostly trying to support the Subway with more collaborative events to make the twins look better after the hit from the media. She also tries to rework Emmet's restraints where possible, usually trying to make them look more cohesive with the rest of an outfit or trying to make them less visible (cause as much as Emmet says it's not a big deal it's still the first thing he looks at in his reflection).
Here's them in alt clothes :7
Man is cuffed under there (T_T)
Can't really think of too much to say so hope you guys like the art and see you later!
#submas#submas au#au#ingo#subway master ingo#ingo pokemon#nobori#emmet#subway master emmet#emmet pokemon#kudari#pokemon shauntal#caitlin pokemon#marshal pokemon#champion cynthia#grimsley#Elesa will use these two to model clothing lines without mentioning Emmet's are technically modified to match his work requirement#“His hands are just cold dw about it”#I wonder if Emmet's version of the clothes would be sold seperately#surely there must be a market for thick clothes with long sleeves and a compression fit#hell Emmet's league restraint is like half leather by volume there's gotta be an audience for that#also for those wondering‚ BFOs are considered auxilliary to the formal league and are considered as extra members for special events#They're generally not included unless an event is being planned or they need the extra marketing bait#Also the General Department handles other tasks!! it's just that most people are assigned/categorized for a specific dept. anyway#so the GD is for people coming in from out of the region or people ranking below gym leaders since they aren't assigned#All this writing is kinda making my head hurt‚ see you guys later

I need a whole fic where the Cerritos is mistaken for the Enterprise by some type of alien with very high intelligence but very poor visual recognition, for whatever reason.
And Freeman either can't or is too scared to convince them that they're not the Enterprise, so she starts desperately assigning everyone to various roles. Boimler gets assigned as Data, and since he and Mariner are the only people on the ship who play string instruments, the captain orders them to put together some sort of "symphony" because the aliens have heard that that's a thing on the Enterprise.
And it's just Mariner and Boimler frustratedly trying to figure out how to combine her electric guitar skills and his traditional violin skills into something suitably "symphonic" (i.e. thematically trying to combine her more lax/modern way of doing things with his more strict/traditional way).
#star trek lower decks#marinler#lower decks#I NEED these two playing music together#also Stevens gets assigned to play Picard and is way too into it#goes a little mad with power and ends up being the episode's main antagonist#they forgive him in the end though#Ransom is Riker obviously#Mariner gets assigned to play Troi and has a fun time pretending to read people's thoughts and they just have to go along with it#Rutherford is obviously Geordi due to his implant#T'Ana plays Crusher on the basis that she is *technically* a redhead and refuses to elaborate further when questioned#Shaxs is Worf and insists that his nose ridges are forehead ridges#Freeman is Displeased (TM) about having to pretend to be a lower-decker since there isn't a part for her#Tendi works the duty-shift with her and ends up helping her work through her issues about not feeling respected as a Cali-class captain#basically pointing out that success is relative and that she didn't succeed according to her family's standards either#but it doesn't matter because she loves what she does#who knows maybe I'll write it one of these days

#it's extra funny that i think that teacher despised me because anytime we were given the slightest bit of freedom on an assignment i'd find#some way to make it about kingdom hearts or at least mention it#even when we had this huge movie project that was this giant thing the movie i picked was back cover because it's technically a movie#i like to imagine we were given this final assignment and she was like oh boy what kh thing is it gonna be this time#and i proceed to write an essay on a gay ship from a game no one has heard of or played#twewy#joshneku#the world ends with you

HEAD-CANONS//
Stan drove without a seat belt for many years until the twins came and visited him. It was equal amounts them getting on his case about how dangerous it was/him realizing he needs to keep them safe and set a good example that got him to start wearing it regularly
He stopped celebrating his birthday somewhere in his late twenties because of everything that was happening in his life. Somehow Mabel found out and surprised him that summer, and he almost cried got frosting in his eye
He got his license before Ford did, worked every day that summer in the pawn shop, and finally saved enough money to get his own car that he used to drive him, his brother, and his then girlfriend around town all in the time
He sends Dipper and Mabel post-cards every few months when they're back in Piedmont from the various locations that he and Ford visit. Some of them are real places, and some of them are made up when he has the time to sit down and really get creative, knowing they'll probably get a kick out of it. Of course, this means that they can't get any back, but it'll be all the sweeter when they arrive back in Gravity Falls to a pile of letters from the kids.
There was talk of getting Gravity Falls taken off the bus route after they literally threatened the bus driver in order to break the rules, but somehow it never went through (plus Stan would probably drive down to their headquarters and threaten them with more violence if that happened)
#( headcanons. )#( idk why theyre mostly car themed#( i just think he loves the car that he has in the show lol#( also his birthday is june 15th which is technically still spring but shh#( other people who receive post cards: Soos and Melody#( and Shy in our found family verse#( help I love Stanley Pines so much#( im doing a writing assignment and suddenly have so much muse wtf

Like there is fun with subverting and playing around with tropes and expectations but if you don't like a genre and you're trying to make something New and Different in it it's worth asking: Who is this for? Are you going to have fun making it? Is anyone who likes that genre going to enjoy it?
#elk text#i am not above this#neither the genres nor this mindset#getting there#read a fic in a setting i dont like bc the op mentioned adjusting that setting to their tastes which matched mine#folks: it was bad#it was technically well made but it was like eating cardboard. i cannot fathom why they wrote it to begin with.#it was one step removed from just writing a particular trope with odd pet names and at that point why even tag that setup?#people who like it wouldn't like the fic. people who don't like it (me) snored through the fic#was this a school assignment? i honestly cannot tell#anyways#make stuff for you first and everyone else second

had an idea for part two of “what if you were a PARAMEDIC in HOLBY and you didn’t have a HOUSE or a FAMILY and this guy from MANCHESTER wouldn’t leave you ALONE?!?” but i swore i would write and edit at least one paragraph of an essay today……….
#okay technically technically i am like three days ahead of where i was at last time i had an assignment of the same length#and i wrote that with enough time to submit it a whole day before the deadline#so…… technically technically if i wrote like two more sentences today then i could justify spending the afternoon making a vid instead#but also next week i have my group presentation on thursday and a group practice on tuesday#and i MIGHT manage to write on thursday while watching everyone else’s presentations#but tuesday is realistically wiped out#hmmm#but then….. tomorrow and sunday makes up for that#but i wont want to write on sunday#these tags are just me rationalising out loud#i am going to do a practice of my part of the presentation#and i am going to make myself write until i get frustrated#and then. sad paramedics
