Tips for Choosing The Right Realtor for You

You have many choices in real estate professionals and having the best agent for you is important.  The best way to look at how you will choose a real estate agent is to consider 2 main attributes of the Realtor.  One is the Realtors experience and knowledge and the other is their personality and how well you work as a team. There may be the instance where you overlook some personality traits in order to work with the most experienced option. 

What to Ask Realtors You are Interviewing

1- How long have you been a real estate agent and are you full time or part time?  Part time real estate agents can not dedicate the time and attention you require when selling or buying a home and you would be wise to only interview full time Realtors.  Keep in mind that having a Realtor who has been licensed for 5or more years will not necessarily guarantee they have experience. I recommend you ask for their sales statistics and review how many homes they have helped people sell or buy.  

2- Check out their online reviews. Websites like Realtor.com and Zillow provide past customer reviews of Realtors. I would suggest you check both sites as the Realtor may prefer their reviews on one site over the other. You can also find their sales statistics on these sites.

3- Ask for their resume. A reputable professional will have a complete resume to provide you.  This can give you information about their past Brokerage relationships and training they have received. You may also find their participation at the local board of realtors. Realtors who are involved in the board of Realtors have a better network of skilled professionals they associate with. This can benefit you greatly. 

4- National Brokerage over Independent Companies. This is subjective and I can say that I know many excellent Realtors with small companies. The difference between a small independent company and a National or International Brokerage Brand is the tools and power provided to your Realtor. Large Brokerages like REMAX have over 100,000 agents in the US which gives a REMAX Agent an outstanding network of professionals who can refer relocation buyers to your home for sale. Large Brokerages also have superior marketing and training which can set these Realtors apart from agents with an independent company. 

5- Marketing and Advertising of your home. Ask the Realtors you speak with if they use video marketing to sell homes. What type of marketing do they do outside of the MLS? You will want a Realtor who is up to date with marketing trends and the power of social media. Your Realtor should have a Facebook Page for Business, Instagram and Twitter to get your home in front of people who can share your home with their network.
