#ted lasso for ts etc

Note
Forgive me for dumping all of this into your askbox but I just watched all of ted lasso (kinda, i didnt finish the finale yet, why is it like 75 min long). What a mess. There were moments I genuinely liked and a lot that was just Not It. This show had too many occurrences where a black and/or brown person's name was gotten all the way wrong and/or mispronounced as a joke (Zoreaux is not that difficult to mispronounce and sounds different from Zoro and then for him to change his name bc of a white man??)
Sam's restaurant/twitter plotline fucking sucked and I don't understand why it was included in the first place. I don't understand why they made Jade so damn cruel to Nathan in the beginning, just a weird ass character all around tbh. If they wanted Nathan back on their team, he shouldve been made head coach rather than the damn assistant to Will, another white man. I did like Jamie's change over the seasons and hated how mean Roy was to him even after seeing how his dad treated him.
I know I'm not saying another new, but I know you had a lot to say while the show was still going and by the look for your tag for the show, we share similar grievances.
No forgiveness, only appreciation for these excellent opinions.
The show never passes by an opportunity to do wrong by black and brown characters . And when those opportunities fail to arise, the show goes to extraordinary lengths (uphill, both ways, in the freezing snow) to add moments for those characters to be underserved, misused, and abused.
It felt cruel!
The writers really thought we would enjoy watching the white characters inflict such a wide array of harms--on each other and the black and brown characters. I don't know how Roy tying dicks together or yelling at reporters is supposed to be charming, feel-good television.
I am aggrieved.

I really dig shows where certain folks outside the main characters end up finding out about the supernatural and just have to deal with that as part of life now.
Like, as fun as it can be to have the protagonists constantly having to hide and talk around mystical happenings, it's so refreshing and delightful to see Nancy Drew, where at first it's a select few "in the know" and then it's like, okay, well, oops, Carson knows now. And apparently McGinnis has known the whole time. And now Owen's in this. And Ryan. And we told John Sanders point blank but he doesn't believe us and it's not worth pushing it. And Connor is not pleased but he knows who to call to handle freaky stuff. And Tamura really ought to believe at this point but he's not going to. And Park is totally down with it. And so on, etc., whatever happens happens.
Why bother hiding it when many hands make blood rituals light work, right?

i can’t decide if my favorite part of this clip is nancy’s delivery of “with...me 😬” or ace’s “oh yeah she’s got a point 🤷” expression but either way i’m going to watch it on a loop forever

ace's texting style is so fucking funny
switching between you and u with no discernable pattern (very mood)
qualmless double and triple texting without a response
"MEAT HOOKS!!!"
"Nancy? NANCY?" in the same text as if he's shouting out loud
flirting by accusing someone of vandalism followed by work text followed by flirting by complimenting their outfit
"u off today? Maybe come in?"
"9-1-1! Charity Hudson haunting Historical Society?!?!? HELP" bestie this is art put it in the moma
painstakingly crafting a text to ur crush to make a date so you can confess your love then immediately fucking off to an astral plane where you almost get wiped from existence :)

I have gotten some new followers on here lately so I just want to remind everyone that I am multi-fandom and post whatever the heck I want…but I DO try my best to tag my mess! If you don’t like a certain person/fandom/ship I post and would like to blocklist here are the things I go on about about most:
Fandoms—
Taylor Swift: #ts
Stranger Things: #Stranger Things
Hunger Games: #thg or #hg (I just use both now because I never remember which one is my main one)
Little Women: #little women
Harry Potter (I very rarely reblog anything hp these days for obvious reasons, but I’m including it b/c I know it’s a big one people might want to block): #hp
Misc. shows all tagged by their full name: Ted Lasso, The Crown, Derry Girls, Downton Abbey, Friends…
Ships—
Jonathan Byers x Nancy Wheeler: #jancy #otp: monster hunting
All other st ships I reblog infrequently and tag by their popular ship name: #jopper #lumax (also #otp: I see you now) #elmax #byler #mileven etc.
Peeta Mellark x Katniss Everdeen: #everlark #otp: real or not real
Jamie Tartt x Roy Kent x Keeley Jones: #Jamie x Roy x Keeley ; and their other combinations, #Roy x Keeley , #Roy x Jamie , #Jamie x Keeley
Amy March x Theodore Laurence: #Amy x Laurie
Ron Weasley x Hermione Granger: #otp (they have the og tag because I was once primarily an hp/ swiftie blog woops). I will start using #romione too to keep it consistent
I am anti-Nancy/Steve (always tagged #anti st*ncy), & anti Billy and any Billy ships. That’s about it out of the ones that might actually come up over here!
If a post revolves around a specific celebrity or character I try to tag by name as a general rule.
Other oft-used tags:
Quotes I like: #words
Art/Photography: #art
Travel or destination based photography: #places
Misc. movies: #a good movie
Misc. people, celebrities and otherwise: #pretty people
Cute cats: #what a cat
Grammar/Literature/Writing tips: #English
A lot of the funny nonsense is tagged #same or #exactly but I make no promises on those :)
I think that’s most of what you need to know to navigate my blog! Happy tumblr-ing
One last note: I try to keep my blog as inclusive and welcoming a space as possible. I do not tolerate transphobia, homophobia, racism, xenophobia, sexism, etc. and if I see it on my dash I will block you!

tips for ts writers- if you’re having a hard time coming up with good nicknames for the sides to call each other that are to the same caliber as the canon ones, watch ted lasso
for insults, look at jamie and roy (their insults aren’t exactly the same as, say, logan and roman, or roman and virgil, but they can help) one that comes to mind is roy calling jamie the prince prick of all pricks”. tell me that’s not something virgil would say to roman
for really specific compliments, look at ted and/or keeley- depending on what character you’re writing for. kelley’s are often more nsfw (see her reacting to rebecca’s nudes), while teds are more wholesome
puns, sweet nicknames, etc; look at ted again. he has a very patton way of speaking, and if you’re like me and have trouble writing patton; it’s super helpful
you can pull them straight from the show, or make some modifications to make them fit the sides more, whatever works. i’m not the best writer, i’m really new to it, so maybe this can help other beginners-

Not enough people are talking about the most hard-hitting truth about Nate, which is that he has a beautiful smile and his eyes are bigger than plates and the silver wig makes his hair look fluffy like a kitten
You've said it better than I ever could.
People aren't ready to accept that he has a nose, cheeks, and a chin. Like, it's beyond their comprehension.

Jfc shut the fuck up. That monologue was written by a queer man and every other queer who heard it *knows* that ache and Billy made us feel it. Fucking wannabe edgelord shit
Hey, sport, I made a catty comment about the arts. (Which is a right I inherited directly from the biggest fucking wannabe edgelord shit of them all: Paul Lynde.)
I made this comment outside of the "Ted Lasso" or "Billy Harris" tags.
You found it and decided to insult me.
That's not okay.
We can all have differences of opinion. I can be a bitingly humorous, confirmed bachelor uncle on my own blog. You can disagree with my sassy little asides.
But responding to my admittedly bitchy opinion about the arts with personal insults is not cool. That was a rather unkind thing you just did.
I understand that you may have a strong emotional attachment to the show and the people who make it. I understand that criticism of the things you love can feel like a personal attack. It can hurt. I get that.
But it is mean to say the things you did to me. I am a real person. A real queer person. A person you are interacting with directly. I am not an actor or writer you've never met, or a piece of intellectual property. I am a person.
It is silly to attack the person in front of you to defend celebrities a million miles away.
I am not suffering under the weight of your words, but the next person you send anon hate to might. From your ask, I get the sense you feel a strong kinship with other queer people (except for me, apparently). If you truly care, don't send this kind of ask. You could hurt someone, and I don't think you want to do that.
If you want me (or anyone else on this website) to shut the fuck up, you can hit the block button.
Who knows? You might have already blocked me. But if you do see this, anon, please take care of yourself and don't send anonymous insults to people. It's the least you can do.

All those thousands of words Subjectify Media puts out each week, vilifying every character of color on Ted Lasso, casting all the white characters as poor innocent victims? All that makes more sense when you realize one of authors also wrote a longfic about an OC named Julio who exists solely to sexually harass Jamie Tartt.
I mean, the website still doesn't make sense to me. Paying for a URL to express one's wrong opinions on the Internet is an odd choice given the number of freely available services to do the same (see: my blog here on tumblr dot com).

I've finally given up and blacklisted Trent Crimm. Not because I necessarily have a problem with him, he's fine, but because dear lord, I would like to discuss literally anything/anyone else.
Yeahhh, I get that. I enjoyed Trent in the latest episode. I thought James Lance was really funny, showing off his physical comedy chops in a way we haven't seen before.
I do not enjoy Trent in fandom spaces. Within the past week, it's been hard to scroll through the Ted Lasso tag without completing a "Fandom Idolizes White Men" bingo card with Trent posts alone. That is, Trent is subjected to fandom's worst excesses related to white men, such as
Being a minor character, but receiving far more attention than more central characters of color.
Fanon and Word of Actor interpretations receiving the same or more weight than the canonical depictions of characters of color. (Trent's skittishness is "proof" he experienced locker room bullying in his youth. Nathan being harassed in the locker room on screen is proof that he is an evil incel ingrate.)
Arguments that his white dude ship is the only acceptable form of queer representation--anything else is crumbs.
Misdeeds ignored, dismissed, or reframed as some kind of noble sacrifice.
Narrative importance vastly overstated.
And so on.
This larger fandom trend makes it nigh impossible for me to enjoy Trent in fandom spaces. Because at a certain point, he stops being Trent Crimm, The Character and becomes Trent Crimm, The Mascot for Ideologies I Fundamentally Disagree With.

Nothing against James Lance and his performance and headcanons, but the fandom suddenly caring a whole lot about a character feeling unsafe in a locker room is eyebrow-raising.
It sure is, anon.
It's been quite jarring to see locker room safety become a fandom priority this week.
You know, after hearing for months that regular, physical abuse in a locker room is just boys being boys, Not That Bad, and something that needed to happen for Roy to become a leader or whatever. (Ted can have a little complacency in locker room violence--as a treat.)
I simply cannot imagine what inspired this (entirely selective) change of heart.

I regret that he’s fine his fans are just annoying
I have similar feelings. I don't really see what the fuss is about. And it's always a little annoying when the fanon version of a character (greatest journalist alive! super smart! saved Ted!) eclipses the canon version--particularly when the fanon valorization comes at the expense of my fave being further vilified. (Leaking Ted's panic attack was a group project; Nathan and Trent both failed.)
Although, of course, any character's fans can be annoying. Like, there's this one guy (I think her name's Bernice Berfunny) who's always going on about Nathan Shelley. Every time I turn around, there she is. It's like give it a rest, buddy.

lmfao I knew you were white halfway through your rant about how Nate is a helpless victim without any agency over his own actions and any criticism of his on screen behavior is racist and sho nuff when i checked i was right
speaking as an actual person of colour, ain't nobody elected you our saviour neither. Infantilising BIPOC characters isn't anti-racism, bestie, it's just a different flavour of white saviourism
Personally I'll keep demanding interesting, narratively complex characters of colour instead of demanding tokenism as a sop to white liberal guilt
Well, I'm certainly glad my whiteness is apparent. I would hate for anyone to think I was hiding anything.
I rant a lot, but I assume you're talking about this post. In which case, yeah, I could have made it clearer that I was criticizing an overall trend rather than diagnosing every single individual criticism. Obviously not all criticism of Nathan is racist. Based on your response, I shouldn't have assumed my audience understood this was a given.
If you're talking about another rant, please do let me know.
If you have the time and inclination, I'd appreciate discussing specific instances where I have infantilized Nathan or portrayed him as a helpless victim without any agency. Those are all bad things, and I don't want to do that. Obviously, you're under no obligation to take me up on that, seeing as you are an anonymous grey orb with sunglasses on the Internet.

I have Thoughts (TM) about Nick Mohammed getting Twin Peaks'd into this episode.
That said, his work as Cowboy Nathan may be exactly what he needs to book the ultimate Surreal Little Man role: Homer the Assessor.

The first thing I did after watching the latest episode was look up if Billy Harris went to drama school.
He did.
Unfortunately, based on the school's tuition fees policy, it's too late for him to get a refund.

i watched the Ted Lasso pilot the other day and in reading your rewatch post, I was also very uncomfortable over him not letting Ollie take his bags but I couldnt articulate why. And then him giving Nathan a nickname really was a red flag to me and just the way that character and his relationship to Ted was portrayed in general. I havent watched another episode.
It does not get any better. Ted is consistently shitty to characters of color, and it's never acknowledged.
