Reposted from @etxtraveler The beautiful and mysterious Caddo Lake has a long history. People have lived in this area for at least 12,000 years. For centuries, they hunted and gathered among the wetlands, forests and broad floodplains. Scientists believe Caddo Lake formed when floodwater, blocked by massive log jams on the Red River, backed up into the Cypress Bayou watershed. 📸 by @patricia_sagastume Don't forget to enter our photo contest for a shot at $2500 in prizes! WOW! This gorgeous bald eagle was photographed in Wood County. Did you know? In the wild, 70-80% of eagles die before they reach adulthood at five years of age. An eagle that makes it to adulthood might live 20-25 years. In captivity, eagles are known to live much longer, 40+ and up to 50 years, due to a controlled environment, nutrient-rich diet and veterinary care. 📸 Lisa Tackett Hilbers . . . . . . . . #baldeagle #eagle #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #merica #birds #birdsofprey #bird #naturephotography #usa #america #photooftheday #bestbirdshots #nuts_about_birds #birding #eagles #birdphotography #instadaily #instagood #your_best_birds #bird_brilliance #birdwatching #birdstagram #freedom #woodcountytx #etx #easttexas #texasforesttrail

Light breaks in Longview, Texas - Gregg County. All thanks to Jackson Wyers @j_dubb for this lovely pastoral shot. Longview was founded April 7, 1870 by O.H. Methvin, a farmer who traded 100 acres for 1 gold dollar & a guarantee that the Railroad would build a town on the land. Railroad surveyors, named the city from Mr. Methvin's front porch on top of Rock Hill, after remarking on the "long view" from that vantagepoint.
