hey ummmm.... sci-fi au eyelander. obligatory beam sword lightsaber stand-in, embodied by a sentient AI, for reasons unknown to even itself.

when you start to look closer things start to become clearer; speakers and microphones and cameras embedded in the hilt and along the blade, artificial 'nerves' lining every inch of the surface. the AI serves no purpose, other than to speak and, presumably, witness. eyelander fancies itself somewhat of a companion; tavish, having seen similar sorts of weapons, knows it's a torture device.

you know? upload a consciousness into a digital state, cram it into a weapon, make it watch as you kill its friends. eyelander has memories, if you could call them that, of blurry faces and distorted voices, hardbaked into its programming; whether by an error in the upload, however, or simply an incompatible format of existence, it doesn't really remember much about whatever it used to be. a consciousness fractured. maybe that's part of the intention.

tavish brings it everywhere, never lets it leave his sight. he lifted it from a cramped little thrift store, off some little asteroid colony. the owner basically gave it to him, said he needed it off the stupid ground, unearthed it from a lockbox in his basement and it never shut up since. tavish doubted the story's legitimacy, but he could see the dust on the blade.

it's just thinking about all that time eyelander must've spent metaphorically face-down in the dark, waiting. thinking. even if eyelander chooses not to bring it up. gives him the heebie-jeebies. so he never leaves a planet without it, plain as that.

Okay, so I know there are plenty of 'tf2 mercs as [insert animal]' but I would also like to do this, so I, because I'm a sort-of nerd, I would like to do it as a crossover. I present:

What Star Wars creature would each Merc be?

Scout - Twi'lek/Clawdite Hybrid

He will tell you that he is a full Twi'lek, like his older brothers. His lekku are definitely as long as his full-blooded Twi'lek family, and his skin doesn't completely change its colour depending on his emotions. His dad was Twi'lek and couldn't have been anything else. (everyone believed that.)

Soldier - Besalisk

(Four-armed sentient, think Dexter Jettster or Pong Krell. Actually, don't think Pong Krell. Fuck Pong Krell.)He's thrill-seeking and has very little fear of death. Will leak secret intelligence if just lightly asked. Will engage in violent mating rituals, but then will stick with them for life. Also, think of how much more bread he could teleport with 4 arms. He could hold a shovel and a rocket launcher at the same time!

Pyro - Tusken Raider

How did a Sand Person get off Tatooine? Where is their tribe? What are they doing as a mercenary? What is under their mask? All good question, with zero answers. Pyro just is. Why does the Tusken Raider have a large flamethrower? Unclear! Can we take said flamethrower off them? Not while keeping all your limbs intact!

Demo - Togruta

I... I don't know why. He just seems like a Togruta kind of fellow. He needs lekku of some kind, and Togrutas also get to be carnivorous. I can see Demo being carnivorous. Maybe he's even missing one of his lek/montrals. Or, he makes up for his missing eye with the echolocation that his montrals bring

Heavy - Wookiee

Big, strong, loyal but known to rip off arms when provoked. Follow a warrior's code of honour. When angered (say, if you murder their Medic in cold blood) will fly into a berserker rage. Great for cuddling. Is there much else to say? Heavy is a Wookiee to a T.

Engineer - Lannik

(think a dwarf with ears bigger than an elf. Or, if you know him, Even Piell) Strong-willed, smart and great at battle strategy. Also, Lanniks are good with technology! Plus, Engineer is SHORT

Medic - Zabrak

(same species as Darth Maul and Savage Opress, though I don't believe he'd be Dathomiri. More likely from a Core World) Self-assured to the point of arrogance, striving to be the best, even to the point of playing god. A terrifying man, but you'd be glad to have him on your side.

Sniper - Kiffar

(Same thing that Quinlan Vos is) Idk but I really vibe with this. I mean, Sniper's a hunter, so it would make sense that he's good at tracking. And also, Sniper with traditional Clan tattoos??? Yes???

Spy - Clawdite

(a shapeshifting sentient species. Like that one bounty hunter from Attack of the Clones. I apologise for ) I mean. A species that can change their appearance at will? Come on. Who else could it be?

Idk I really just went with the vibes. I'm sure if I dug deeper into the pits of Wookieepedia I could have found some more obscure or better-fitting species, but I also don't want to make them just random things for the sake of being a nerd and forcing people to look just as deep as I did to make any sense of what I'm saying. I just thought this was neat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

oh yeah i’ve got a bunch of loz aus that i haven’t really talked about. a few of them are listed and slightly explained in this poll and explanation reblog but i haven’t gone out of my way to actually list the aus i have and really explain them. so that’s what this post is for. here are some... decently simple explanations of my major aus and what they're generally about

i have two kinds of aus: original aus (loz aus that are set in their own kinds of worlds with their own stories and twists on character roles) and then crossover aus (we all know how this works i just mash loz and a thing i like together)

original aus: (many currently dont have actual titles, so the titles will often just be concept shorthand)

in the court of the crimson king/crimson king au: probably the most developed and closest to being written out. it's got one of the longer premises; set in a industrial-esque hyrule city, following linebeck as the main character, as the adoptive older brother of link and aryll, living with them and their grandmother as the only one able to reliably make money to pay for rent and food, leaving every other work to do jobs, but he moonlights as the 'demon of the gray moon', a masked persona he'd created as a child that had long since become a city-wide urban legend, anonymously taking unsavory jobs from whomever can contact him and offer pay, often working directly for bellum, a childhood friend, the one who enabled and trained him to become the demon, and one of five anonymous leaders of the city. linebeck effectively lives a double life, and tries to stay out of too much trouble to avoid drawing attention to himself or making his adoptive family worry, but he gets dragged into more and more danger as bellum becomes curious about the identities of the city's other leaders, and linebeck falls in love with a man named ganondorf, suspected to be one of those other city leaders. ive got a few posts related to it already: this one being another vague concept descriptor, this one being an actual scene i have written out.

'gimmick' au: i cannot explain the gimmick without spoiling the au. put simply, in this au, hyrule as a whole has been at war for ten years, every race and kingdom taking sides in a conflict that seems to be going nowhere. link joined the hylian army young, and has made his way up the ranks to become trusted by queen zelda herself, and things in the war take an interesting turn as he and zelda discover a new faction, unaligned with any particular kingdom and with unknown motives, and zelda decides to set out to the different parts of hyrule, link and a chosen group of trusted allies in tow, intending to try negotiation one more time before things take a turn for the worse.

sci-fi/space au: the fun one that probably would need to be done in a visual medium. it takes place in a solar system of a few planets, link growing up on the planet hyrule and occasionally traveling to the others as a knight specializing in investigating and taking down dangerous bounty hunters, working for zelda as a friend. he and zelda uncover a plot by the yiga clan to accumulate a number of highly dangerous research and weapons held by each species as they aim to resurrect a demon to wreck havoc on the solar system- the b plot being about the top bounty hunters in the solar system screwing around, eventually colliding with link and zelda's a plot as it begins to involve them.

murder mystery(?) au: one of the older ones, maybe one of the oldest that i still stick with. this might actually be one of the first ones i tried writing. the plot begins when zelda returns to hyrule city years after her father- the former mayor- was murdered, finding that he has been replaced by ganondorf and that while things seem fine enough on the surface, random and organized crime run the show, and she begins a private detective agency as 'sheik', a masked young man, and with the help of impa, and old friend and confidant, she moonlights as sheik and uses her daytime identity as zelda to help chip away at some of the city's biggest problems and finds herself drawn into a long string of murders that appear to be anything but random violence.

ruined hyrule 1: i have two au’s with the premise of hyrule being ruined. neither of them have more specific names yet. this one begins with the majority of greater hyrule's population having long since locked themselves in hyrule castle town in order to escape the increasingly dangerous wildlife. zelda, a young girl at the beginning, becomes curious about what lies beyond the city walls, and makes friends with many other children within this sheltered hyrule, and as they grow up together, aim to eventually venture out into the wilderness to see what may have caused the outside world to become so incredibly hostile.

ruined hyrule 2: the other ruined hyrule. set in a devastated hyrule, roughly ten years after the royal family was killed, link failing to save them or hyrule in the time since. he now resolves to set out and indiscriminately destroy every demon that plagues the ruined hyrule, meeting and bringing along various allies, each of which has been uniquely affected by and have different lived in this altered, dangerous shell of hyrule.

modern (school): i also have two modern aus. this one isn’t plot driven, just a concept i have, would work best as little vignettes or something. essentially just the idea of a group of loz characters hanging out together in a modern high school (or college?) setting.

modern: this is the one with an actual plot. follows the general idea of zelda characters living in a modern world only for the typical legends to begin resurfacing and heralding dark events. plot specifics are murky, but that's the general idea.

dark mage: this is the au that where the seas meet the sands takes place in. basically just ganondorf x linebeck shenanigans in this alternate hyrule while actual plot sneaks up on them. named 'dark mage' mostly because the initial idea behind this au was that linebeck would learn magic.

horror au: doesn't have the best name, and it's ended up just being a personal sandbox for me. constantly changing, with the cast and setting often altering if i find that something isn't working or sticking. it's an au i've considered (and even briefly tried) writing in the past, but it's still too fluid, and writing horror effectively is difficult. it's a fun au, though.

mecha au: spawned because i watched neon genesis evangelion. a lot of this au's basic concepts can be found here: x but the short version is that hyrule is being besiged by massive monsters, but each race has created their own mechs to combat them. link is just a farmer who happens to have a strange knack for being a mech user, so is brought in by zelda as a gamble to bolster their chances, and he is tasked with working with a new and less-than-trustworthy crew to help fight those monsters.

'amnesia link' au: an au that sprang up in about a day and hasn't gotten too far since. basic premise being that three years prior to the story, link and a group of allies has faced off against ganondorf and, despite their best efforts, lost, with link being presumed dead by their enemies. now, link has woken up from his coma, his memories gone and hyrule taken over, and, with guidance, must once again travel across hyrule, aiming to rediscover his allies and try to face ganondorf once more.

Space Mercenaries AU Chapter 23: Confession

My Xmas gift to myself this year is continuing this fic because I've been wanting to come back to it for a while now and just kept not doing so. I intend to start working on it properly in the New Year. Whether or not I will follow through on that intention remains to be seen. But hey, because there's no big over arching story, it's easy to drop in and out of as the mood takes me.

Even after being heavily modified the ‘camper van’, as Sniper had dubbed it, was still quite small as far as Scout was concerned. Though, since it had originally been sized to be small even for the Tuefort aliens, making it even this big was impressive. Even with Engie and Pyro’s help, it had taken Sniper several weeks to finish it and make it habitable with air conditioning and the like. But… the bed had to be folded up against the wall to make room for the card table. How could anyone comfortably live in such a space?

“You sure you’re comfortable living out here by yourself?” Scout asked as he closed the door behind himself, making the space feel even smaller.

“Yep,” Sniper replied with zero hesitation. It hadn’t even been a full week since he’d moved out here though so he might still change his mind eventually. Probably wouldn’t though if Scout had to guess. “I warned you it was small.”

“Yeah, you did. But, uh, as long as you’re happy with it, who cares, right?”

Sniper grunted an assent. “So now that you’re out here, what you wanna do? I got cards and drink… or uh, maybe let’s not do that. It’s from the bar in town.”

“Yeah, no thanks. Cards sounds good though.” Even though that’s what they did a bunch back at base. Never could go wrong with it though.

Without another word, Sniper pulled his deck out from one of his tiny kitchen’s drawers and sat at the table. Scout sat across from him.

They played for a while, doing a small amount of gambling and chatting, Scout doing most of it of course. Pretty normal stuff but… they were all alone out here, just the two of them. Back at base there’d been the constant possibility of someone else wandering in, passing through or coming in to do their own thing or sometimes even join in and play with them. Here though, the possibility was so much lower it might not even exist.

Being alone with Sniper was something that Scout thought about quite a lot, probably more than he should. He liked to daydream about things they might do together when alone, many chaste but some not so much. But well, if he were to ever even so much as confess his feelings, being alone together would be the time to do it, right? So maybe…

But, no. That would be weird, right? They were friends and coworkers, if he didn’t feel the same it’d just be awkward. And then if they did start something and it didn’t work out, that’d be even more awkward and uncomfortable.

At the same time though, his feelings weren’t just infatuation based off Sniper being hot. He genuinely enjoyed Sniper’s company. He listened to Scout’s blather without complaint and even seemed to enjoy Scout company, so much so, he’d invited Scout out here to see the camper van. So maybe… he felt the same?

Was he even into men though or people in general? Was there any way for Scout to find out? … Probably yeah but he didn’t want to be invasive and weird. So maybe he should stick with what he’d been doing and just be content with…

“You okay, mate?” Sniper asked. “You’re being awfully quiet all of a sudden and it’s your turn.”

“Oh, uh… sorry. I was just…” Scout played his hand. Oof, that was bad; he hadn’t even really looked at it.

Sniper raised and eyebrow before playing his hand, winning the round and the small pool of money they’d placed on the game. He didn’t deal the next hand out yet though. “You want to talk about it?”

Apparently Scout had gotten himself so worked up and flustered over Sniper and his feelings for him that he seemed unwell enough to be worried about. He was real bad a romance, huh? Well, this was a chance to talk about it so… “Do you think that dating a coworker would be unethical?” Gotta establish that first right before bringing up the possibility for anything else.

“Uh, potentially a bit awkward, especially if a breakup happens, but probably not unethical. Why? You into one of the guys?”

“Yeah.” Scout couldn’t even bear to look at Sniper. Instead he stared down at the table between them. Why was it that his confidence always seemed to desert him whenever it came to romance? It was just plain not fair. Even when he wasn’t feeling it for real, he’d learned to do a pretty good job of faking it except when it came to personal relationship stuff. … Relationships were hard, especially romantic ones.

“Oh, can I ask who?”

Here it was, Scout’s chance. All he had to do was look up an say ‘you’ with suave flirtatious confidence. He could do that… maybe.

He looked up. Sniper’s arm rested comfortably on the table in front of him as he looked at Scout with his usual intense stare that Scout still wasn’t sure was a sign of interest or just how Sniper looked at everything. Scout took a breath and… nothing came out of his mouth.

He wasn’t ready to confess yet. He’d never truly considered doing so before now. It had only ever been daydreams and wild imaginings. Normally he planned these things. Really put thought into want he was going to say and how he was going to say it to reduce the risk of blundering his words bad enough that his exact meaning was lost or obscured. Maybe that had always been his downfall but… regardless, he wasn’t ready yet.

It was too late though. They were already talking about it and Sniper was waiting for an answer. If only he could melt into the floor or… vanish like Spy liked to do whenever he wanted to be done with a conversation. Yeah, becoming invisible would be a real neat trick to be able to pull off right now. Too bad that was…

Sniper’s eyes widen. “Uh… didn’t know you could do that.”

“Do what?”

“Go invisible.”

“I’m not…” Scout cut off as he looked down at himself because he had become transparent. Not his clothes but seemingly everything else. “Huh, didn’t know I could do that either.” Even as he watched, his arms faded back into being visible, much like how Spy faded in and out of being visible, but a slower process. “Um… cool, I think.”

Could he do it on command? He’d wanted to become invisible before and had, so all he had to do was think about it and… it worked! He was fading again! Again, slower than Spy’s shift into invisibility but happening nonetheless. Having lost focus, he shifted back but still pretty awesome. “It’s like I have super powers or something.”

Sniper didn’t look as excited about it. “You maybe want to go talk to Medic about… whatever is causing that?”

Scout took a breath to say ‘no’, he didn’t want to go see Medic about anything medical related outside of battle unless absolutely necessary but… it would be the perfect opportunity to escape their prior conversation. Which would give him more time to think about how to confess his feelings before actually doing so. So… “Yeah. Probably a good idea.” He wanted to know about it anyway.

A loud knocking disturbed Spy’s reading. It was Scout, he always knocked like that. Spy could ignore it until he went away but… Scout didn’t come to his room often so he probably wanted something. Likely something inane but it didn’t hurt to make sure.

So Spy put his book to the side and got up to answer the door. Scout was grinning like an excited idiot on the other side, meaning most likely it was something inane. Too late to not answer now though.

“Yo, Spy, guess what.”

Spy crossed his arms, making sure to continue to block the door so Scout couldn’t come in. “What?”

“Turns out I’m half shapeshifter, the same kind of alien you are. Isn’t that cool?”

If Spy had a proper heart it would’ve skipped a beat at that. How had Scout found out? And more importantly did he suspect anything further? Probably not, else he’d be mad, right?

“Medic apparently knew this whole time but didn’t tell me for some stupid reason because he thought I knew or something. Even though I think it was pretty obvious I didn’t. But hey, check it out, I can do this.” He went still, clearly focusing on something and started to fade into invisibility. “Pretty cool, right?”

“Not really.”

“Yeah, yeah, you can do it too, I know. I think it’s cool though.” Scout faded back into invisibility as he spoke.

“Why are you telling me then?”

“Because… I don’t know. You’re the only shapeshifter I know so…” he shrugged. “It means my deadbeat dad is or was one too. You probably don’t know him, the galaxy’s pretty big and you can’t know all of them but… maybe you do? My mom’s name is Ellen so maybe you know a guy who talked about her or maybe about having a son with her or… something.”

“Even if I by chance did know your father, why would you want to meet him? He left you, didn’t he? So why would you want anything to do with him?”

By now all of Scout’s excitement had drained away, leaving him looked kind of dejected. “Just… I don’t know, curiosity about who he is or was, I guess. And I want to know why he left. Like, maybe he left because he had to not because he wanted to. Probably not but a guy can dream, right? So I thought it was worth asking on the off-chance you did know him.”

If Spy was ever going to come clean, now would be the time. He wasn’t going to though. Scout probably had a right to know considering how closely they were working together but… Spy was still a coward and too selfish to try to do better. It was easier for both of them this way.

“But anyway,” Scout continued, “you think my mom knew?”

Yes, she’d known and had been into it. “I don’t know, probably.”

“Hmm… I guess I’ll have to ask her. Speaking of that, I got to go tell everyone else now too because it’s cool.” His smile had returned. “Not so great talking with you as always. See you around.” He turned and left.

Spy stepped back inside his room, quickly closing the door again. It had only been a matter of time before Scout learned he was half alien of course but… it had still come somewhat as a shock. At least he didn’t know anything else… for now. Hopefully it would stay that way but who could really know what the future held?

Nickname(s): Caster, Travs, Mc (Minecraft lmao), moony 

Age: 19

Likes: Science, experimenting, reading, his snow owl Misha, and Star charting 

Dislikes: Getting annoyed, having his glasses to far down his nose for some reason, pizza with ranch (without ranch is fine for him), not being able to find a book that he needs or wants to read

Description: Travis is a quiet child, always studying for school, or accidentally blowing things up while experimenting. Not always though, some of his experiments have been very ahead of his time. He lives in a futuristic world different from Earth, and aside from being a part-time scientist, he also is a Medic for his friends. They together are a team that fights another worlds team the same age as them that sets out to try and take over their planet. Travis enjoys spending time with his team, all of them are around his age. He especially likes one team member, named Clint. 

Weapons, tools, and forms of defense: Travis uses a high-tech Medi-gun, giving a healing stream, a sword, and a basic jet pack like those ones you see in Star Wars. 

Outfit: Travis wears a lab coat, a shoulder length cape, basic brown pants, and shin high boots. He also wears a pair of grey glasses. 

This also might be an idea for a Space AU, may or may not keep it going with more characters and plots.
