the prophecy jack was forcefully given at the beginning of vol 1 is at least close to coming true
“you will watch all of your friends die.” current friends or all of jack friends? because i think all of his friends at that time ended up dying. Tony, Mawma and Pops, Tom, and Sabine. i feel like i’m forgetting someone
if the prophecy includes people like Amy, Jerry, Rosa, and Gaston who he becomes friends with later then he’s pretty close. Jerry “died” in Bedside Manner and the Gaston clone Sabine said was weird died in vol 4. he WATCHED them die, but they didn’t. the prophecy is still true.
O’Brian’s memory lost in vol 4 could be akin to death. Jack’s friend died, but she’s still around. she’s just not his friend anymore
so i think Rosa will die, look like she died, get revived, etc. we just have to wait and see
dear god i hope cooper dies for reals
#KILL COOPER!!!!!!!!!#hm. maybe i’ve been unreliable narrator-ed by jack. is he that bad?#we only see how jack imagines him in the abandoned zoo#maybe cooper is chill but i doubt it#tftgs#tales from the gas station#tales from the road#tftr

Currently suffering from a horrible sunburn after our vacation in Florida. I applied sunscreen so many times but my pale ass skin was no match for the Florida Sun.
Anyway out of Jack, Rosa, and Jerry who do you think gets the worst burns?
Jack: Dude is definitely pale AF and burns so easily. He definitely just avoids the sun at all costs, but if he has to be in the sun he'll only remember to apply sunscreen once (bedside manor let us know that he does think about applying it) unless Rosa reminds him to apply more. If they have a beach day he would just sit in the shade and read. Dude has also been through so much crazy shit that when he does get burnt he doesn't really notice it until it gets really bad and even then it's just more annoying than anything.
Rosa: Doesn't burn as easily but always remembers sunscreen. She's also the best at remembering to reapply sunscreen and helps the others remember to reapply as well. She luckily just tans more than anything, but if she does burn she always has aloe and other things on hand to help soothe the burn.
Jerry: Doesn't. Wear. Sunscreen. Not that he's against it or anything but he just kinda forgets? Like his ADHD just gets him hyper focused on the fun thing and doesn't realize his mistake until it's too late. With Rosa around he at least is reminded to apply it more often. Doesn't burn as easily as Jack and definitely has a bit of a preexisting tan from previous burns but if he's outside too long unprotected he can get burned badly. When he does get a terrible burn he does his best to act like he's ok so the others don't worry about him.
Gaston: goodest boi. Everyone makes sure he doesn't burn his paw pads. Hates doggy shoes and does the weird walk every time shoes are put on him.

Anyway, here are the old neutral beam emitters from TFTR. A few feet of this is a high-voltage particle accelerator to generate a deuteron beam (like a proton beam but you start with deuterium instead of ordinary hydrogen), the rest was filed with a sparse deuterium atmosphere to neutralize the beam before it entered the tokamak. This puts a tremendous amount of energy into the fusion plasma, and can be used to drive an electric current if it’s fired at an angle.
Charged particle beams are easy to generate but they don’t work for fusion. You have to use neutral beams because if you tried to shoot any sort of charged particles into a fusion reactor, they would instantly get swatted off course by the magnetic fields before they could deposit any energy into the core of the plasma.
Fun fact, the neutral beam emitters that are being built for ITER in France are exactly 25.4 meters long, which is objectively the worst possible number of meters. Here’s a secret: “25.4 meters” is the incantation for a spell that makes engineers take immense psychic damage. Try it on your friends, especially your European friends.

A section of NCSX, a fusion reactor so ambitious and advanced for its day that it was cancelled while half-built, in 2008. Each of those massive squiggly copper magnets — of which there were many — had to be held to sub-millimeter precision through many thermal cycles in liquid nitrogen. The vessel is solid inconel. What a beast!
Somebody remind me to write up a more thorough post about the history of stellarators at some point.
#fusion#TFTR#engineering#I’m an inch measurement apologist but even I have to admit that 25.4 is an awful number of meters

As requested by anon, these are showerproof skins linked to Lifa / @withlovefromsimtown's trans body shapes: AFTr, AMTr, TFTr and TMTr. They are repo'd to your S1-S4 + alien default skins (or the Maxis skins if you don't use default replacements) so they'll fit everyone's game. If you have no idea what showerproof skins are, please read under the cut.
There's actually 2 3 sets: • one set ("Lifa UUTr Showerproof Skins") gives Lifa's trans shapes to both F and M sims; • another set ("Lifa UMTr Showerproof Skins") only gives trans fem shapes to M sims, while F sims keep their standard Maxis shapes (I made this one for people like me who use F androgyny for their trans masc sims and don't necessarily feel the need to have AFTr in their game); Edit: • the third set ("Androgyny F + Lifa UMTr Showerproof Skins") gives Lifa's Trans shapes to M sims and Androgyny to F sims.
These sets are further divided into 2 versions (choose one): ◦ version 1 gives trans shapes to adults and elders only; ◦ version 2 also gives the teen trans shapes to teens.
If this sounds confusing, each "version" folder has previews in it so you can see exactly what you're getting (ages not depicted in previews have their standard Maxis shapes).
The required top and bottom meshes that I made from Lifa's full-body nude meshes are included, as well as the Androgyny F meshes which are Aquilegia's edits of Gothplague's (I fixed the crotch and feet mapping and added the sexyfeet version). For each age and "gender" group, you'll have to choose if you want blockfeet or sexyfeet.
More details below.
What are showerproof skins? They are skins linked to a custom body shape (or body shapes). When you give a showerproof skin to a sim, that sim will have the body shape that the skin is linked to when they are nude (taking a bath, streaking, doing ACR stuff, etc.). Showerproof skins have no effect whatsoever on clothing, because clothes use their own meshes.
The skins on this post are custom skins that are repo’d to your skin defaults (S1-2-3-4 + alien) or to the Maxis skins if you don’t use defaults. Let me repeat that they are custom skins - they will not replace your skin defaults, they will only have the same textures as your defaults. If you ever switch default skins, these will change automatically on their own so that everything matches. These skins are not geneticized or townified. If you’d like to genetify and townify them, check out Rikkulidea’s tutorial.
In CAS, they will appear in your custom skins with these thumbnails (depending on the set and version you choose):
(This last one goes for both the adult&elder-only AndroF+AMTr set and the one that includes teens too.)
Uncensored previews are included in the download, but keep in mind that they're really only relevant as previews for the meshes - the textures will be different in your game depending on what default skins you use.
Let me know if you have any question or issue.

How significant is powder metallurgy for the use of bastardly-to-machine stuff like inconel these days? it's just i was checking out some quotes for DMLS printing recently and there wasn't *that* much of a price delta between alu and stuff like maraging steel and superalloys
I can’t speak to other industries, but in rocket engineering and fusion engineering it’s huge. Everybody loves to 3D print inconel, as well as funky copper alloys (shoutout to GRCop-84) and steel. It has terrific mechanical properties and you can make almost any arbitrary shape. The hot new thing to do is to 3D print as much of your rocket as possible.
HOWEVER, in nuclear fusion, inconel in general is kind of going out of fashion. For those of you in the room who aren't familiar, inconel refers to a class of "superalloys," structural metals that can retain their strength while very close to their melting point. One would think this would be a super useful property in a fusion reactor, and one would be absolutely correct. JET in the UK went hog-wild with inconel, as did TFTR at Princeton.
But, depending on the alloy, inconel is anywhere from 50% to 70% nickel. Nickel is particularly problematic in areas of high neutron flux (like, say, in a fusion reactor), where it captures neutrons and "activates." Almost every element does this to one extent or another, but it's real bad when it happens to nickel.
I'm not a neutronics person, but from what they tell me, the various transmutation reactions give you both radioactive byproducts with annoyingly long half-lives, and pockets of helium that lead to severe embrittlement. A nickel-rich alloy is just not going to have a good time in a fusion power plant, long term.
