The Gilded Age S3 Bingo Card Recap for 3.01 - Who is in Charge Here?
Welcome to The Gilded Age Season 3 bingo, everyone!
Free Spaces
Anachronistic back-fastening dress: The difference between an anachronistic back-fastening dress and a back-fastening dress is that the former tends to break the pattern of the dress while looking like it could be a zipper (they're not zippers, though, they're hooks and eyes). Don't count laces or buttons down the back that are integrated into the dress! I almost thought we wouldn't have one this episode until we saw this shot of Marian:
Episode title drop: Agnes, a little under 17 minutes in - "You used my secretary on this nonsense. Who is in charge here?"
Squares to Check Off After 3.01
A man takes off his hat to kiss someone: Billy kissing Gladys's hand - thanks @sunbeamsandmoonrays!
A scene at the Metropolitan opera/a scene at the opera
A secret relationship: Larry and Marian; Billy and Gladys
A Westward journey
Ada in mourning
Bertha tries to pair Gladys off with a British noble
Carriage ride
Divorce mention
Fetching the doctor
Gladys stands up to her mother
Health scare: Peggy's illness
Historical figure mention: John Eno (by Clay), George Seney (by George), Jay Gould (by Clay), John Singer Sargent (by Bertha)
Historical figure shows up: also John Singer Sargent
New character name recycled from Downton Abbey: Andrew the footman, recycling Downton Abbey's Andrew "Andy" Parker the footman
Peggy writes a novel
Pumpkin proof of life
Russell footman namedrop: Two! James Bevan and Andrew
Taissa Farmiga has something to do
Subjective Squares After 3.01
Ada expresses enthusiastic interest on a niche topic (mod would not characterize the 19th temperance movement as niche)
Agnes yells at Ada / Agnes yells at Oscar / Agnes yells at a family member
A new character with shady motives
A secret engagement: Also for Larry/Marian and Billy/Gladys...
A Tony winning actress has nothing to do
Drinking alcohol in the morning: Given time zones and placement in the episode, it's likely that the second scene in Arizona with alcohol on the table is before noon.
Marian wears something yellow and floofy - yellow is certain, floofy is in the eyes of the beholder
Blackout Preventing Squares
None this episode!
Freebie Squares
None this episode!
What did I miss? Do you have a different scene in mind for a square above? Let me know in a reblog or reply!

The Gilded Age Bingo - S2E2
Thank you so much to @tgabingo for the card! This was a fun way to watch the episode this week.
the marriage proposal was less 'declined' and more 'refused with extreme prejudice and intent to harm' but hey, you know, if it gets a square.
sadly, I have both 'historical figure namedrop' and 'historical figure appearance' and i didn't think it was okay to use both for the same person - Dick Sears was an American tennis champ and winner of the US National from 1881 to 1887.
I'm counting our character reveal jumpscare at the end of the episode as extreme cringe.

The Gilded Age S3 Bingo Card Recap for 3.02 - What the Papers Say
Before we dive in for this week, I recommend double checking your card against last week's recap as a few squares were added after the poll went up!
Free Spaces
Anachronistic back-fastening dress: On Gladys and Aurora in particular
Episode title drop: There wasn't one! 🙀 Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I watched multiple times and extracted the subtitles and didn't find it. If this is your free space and you didn't participate for Episode 1, you do NOT have this space marked off yet.
Squares to Check Off After 3.02
A meetcute: Peggy and Dr. Kirkland
A secret relationship: Larry and Marian
Ada in mourning
Bertha tries to pair Gladys off with a British noble
Brook family trauma: Agnes's story about 10-year-old Oscar's typhoid
Divorce mention: Charles Fane
Fetching the doctor: Mr. Scott and Dr. Kirkland
George and Bertha kiss
Glaring lack of chaperone: Larry and Marian (and averted with Mrs. Carlton saying that she didn't allow Billy and Gladys to be alone!)
Health scare
Historical figure namedrop: George Seney again, JP Morgan
Historical figure shows up: JP Morgan, as well as Charlotte Astor and Hallett Alsop Borrowe
Peggy writes a novel
Plot twist!
Someone is caught in a lie: Bertha not telling George everything about her arrangements with the Duke
Someone ugly cries: Gladys
Taissa Farmiga has something to do: See "someone ugly cries" (among other scenes!)
Subjective Squares After 3.02
A dramatic reveal occurs at a party: Stretching the definition of "party", Charles Fane and Mrs. Lipton at Aurora's YWCA benefit; the Duke bringing his lawyer to dinner (and stay) with the Russells and Marian
A new character with shady motives: Merrick
A Tony winning actress has nothing to do
An engagement is broken: Gladys and Billy Carlton
Gladys stands up to her mother
Larry kisses Marian in private for once: Larry bringing Marian to the carriage
Larry kisses someone in an inappropriately public setting: Same scene as Larry kisses Marian in private for once
Minor plot point recycled from Downton Abbey: The wife of a married servant in a developing relationship with another servant dies
Overt Season 1 parallel: John telling Oscar he loves him in public
Secondhand embarrassment/extreme cringe
Blackout Preventing Squares
None this episode!
Freebie Squares
None this episode!
Did I miss anything? Do you have a different scene in mind for a square above? Let me know in a reblog or reply!

The Gilded Age S2 Bingo Card Recap for 2.04 - His Grace the Duke
Free Space
Zipper down the back of a dress: Bertha's very first ensemble, then Marian & Susan Blane, among others...
Squares to Check Off After 2.04
Ada rebels against Agnes in a significant way: Going to see Luke Forte multiple times, and then...
A marriage proposal is accepted: Luke Forte's to Ada
A walk in the park: Maud & Oscar
Blatant non-zipper anachronism: This square actually wasn't supposed to be for costumes but I'm making an exception for whatever Maud is wearing in this scene ⬇
Dialogue explicitly mentions Larry's oats: Twice in one scene!
George and Bertha kiss
Historical character shows up: Lillie Langtry, Booker T. Washington
Incredibly serious topic immediately followed by a frivolous conflict: The conversation between Booker T. Washington and T. Thomas Fortune at dinner
Someone is caught in a lie: Turner's career (although there may be a more overt option in a future episode on this same topic)
Two characters become engaged: Luke and Ada
Subjective Squares After 2.04
A Tony winning actress has nothing to do: Kelli O'Hara (Aurora Fane) may qualify this episode, but your mileage may vary
Secondhand embarrassment/extreme cringe: Frances talking about being a family with Marian and her father, Bertha changing the placecards, Turner's tantrum, something else that is up to you!
Tragic backstory reveal: Maud's
Blackout Preventing Squares
Larry/Susan sex scene, probably, UNLESS
Freebie Squares
You may choose to cross off Larry/Susan sex scene as a freebie because we did get very close!
Square Swap Option
If you started playing before 2.04, you may choose if you would like to swap an existing unchecked square on your card for "Peggy milks a cow" - you can use this to get a bingo, but you can't reuse the square you swap! (Well you can if you want but I'm making it against the spirit of the rules.)
Did I miss anything? Do you have a different scene in mind for a square above? Let me know in a reblog or reply!

Watching Season 2 of The Gilded Age on HBO when it comes back on October 29? Play Bingo with us!
How to Sign Up
Use this form to sign up for a card and/or submit an idea for a square by Friday, October 27:
How to Play
You can participate in any or all of the following ways:
Sign up for your own unique bingo card(s) with yours and others' predictions, ideas, and/or off-the-wall concepts, then play every week as the show airs (#tgabingo)
Submit a prediction for a bingo square using the form above and your submission will show up on bingo cards - no submission limit
Follow this blog and watch others play as the show airs - a poll will be posted every week to publicly track results
How Cards Will Work
Everyone who signs up for a card will receive one
All card squares will be tracked in a Google sheet as the show airs
Card(s) will have 20-25 squares dependent on submissions(s)
Card(s) may be grouped into themes dependent on skew of submission topics (e.g. "Season Premier", "Russell Household", "John/Oscar") - you don't need to play every card you have, and you don't need to play every week, either
More details below!
What Predictions Are Accepted?
They should be short - they need to fit on a bingo square! Longer predictions may be edited or broken down for clarity.
You can suggest squares related to story beats, props/costumes/sets, overall arcs, casting, etc. The sky is the limit and nobody is necessarily expected to be realistic, but submitting ideas you think are plausible or expect to happen will make the game more fun because it increases the chances of actually getting to mark a square. The sweet spot is a medium-ish level of specificity and plausibility.
Episode is optional but not required. (If you include an episode in your prediction, that prediction may or may not have the specified episode on every bingo card.)
Examples by Type
Story beats: Oscar proposes to Gladys
Costumes: Marian's first costume has a visible zipper down the back
Arcs: Larry moves to Newport
Cast: Robert Sean Leonard's character first appears in the first episode
Examples by Probability
Effectively guaranteed: The first episode will open with Easter
Plausible: Oscar proposes to Gladys in the first episode
Probably really unlikely: Anne and Aurora run away to France in the first episode
Examples by Specificity
Hyperspecific: One of George's workers dies in a manufacturing accident at the end of the third episode
Specific: A background character dies in the third episode
Not very specific and likely to end up as a free space: A character dies
When do I need to submit?
Card square suggestions close Friday, October 27. Everyone who has asked for a card by Friday, October 27 will have a card by 9pm Eastern Time on Sunday, October 29. (You can also sign up for a card at any time after that point, because it can be frustrating to find something after it's already started. And you can still submit a prediction if you want I guess, but it won't make it onto a bingo card.)
I can't play every week, how do I avoid spoilers?
Block the tags "#tgabingo" and the weekly tags, which will be "#tgabingo2x01", "#tgabingo2x02", etc. This blog will use those tags, and users participating are highly encouraged to use those tags as well as spoiler tags (e.g. "tga spoilers", "tgas2 spoilers").
Other questions?
Just ask!

Deadline for a bingo card by 2.02 - Some Sort of Trick is tomorrow, November 5, at 2pm US Eastern (7 hours before the show airs)!
Watching Season 2 of The Gilded Age? Play bingo with us!
How It Works
Send this blog an ask requesting a bingo card as well as any squares you'd like to see on it (example below)
You'll receive a Google drive link to a PDF bingo card
After every episode, this blog will post an episode recap with bingo squares to check off and a poll about how you did that episode
You can reblog the recap with your bingo card to share if you like, and/or share which scenes you decided to use for squares like "secondhand embarrassment", and/or say that the recap missed something and you think you should be able to check off a square
If you finish your card, or your card has too many squares that are proven early to be unlikely to allow a bingo, you can trade for another one
Late Joiners
The show has already started, but anyone can sign up for a bingo card
Sign ups will close an hour before the airing of 2.08 - but that might be pretty tough
Late joiners will only receive squares that are expected to be able to occur in future episodes, so nobody after episode 1 is getting squares related to Easter or Oscar fainting in his mother's front hall - that said, you are welcome to figure out what your bingo total would be after the show has ended!
What does the winner get?
The satisfaction of playing a game with others on the internet!
Example Card
Every card has the same free space of "zipper down the back of a dress".
(Only people familiar with Downton Abbey will get Downton Abbey related squares, so if you think that applies to you feel free to include that in your message as well as any other predictions you'd like to have on your card!)
