So, other than that Omaze contest blurb, have we heard anything about the premiere for TGM? I feel like we knew about the date and venue for LY about two months or so beforehand. I know Netflix does some limited premieres, but are they usually in LA or NYC?
+ "Okay, out here using Google to answer my own questions. Looks like historically Netflix uses Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles for its movie red carpet premieres, most recently for that Adam Sandler movie "Hustle" a couple weeks ago. So if I were a betting person, I might be laying a bet on that being the premiere site for TGM, but who knows."

Sorry for the late answer, anon!!
Lightyear premiere was confirmed only a week or two prior to it happening though. Let's remember at first we had two dates in two different places for the LA premiere (and then it ended up being one for LA and another one for London).
We might get something more concrete on TGM premiere next week or so.

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: “MGNTK” by Blckbx
Tumblr media
Los Angeles based band Blckbx returns with latest song, “MGNTK” (pronounced “magnetic”). When I caught them opening for Shwayze back in January this was actually a song I wrote down in my phone’s notes to go check out later. It obviously hadn’t been released at that time but it was well worth the wait!

The Baile Funk duo gave Too Good Music the inside scoop on the most pop leaning release of theirs so far. Check it out below:
TOO GOOD MUSIC: What was the inspiration behind “MGNTK?”
BLCKBX: Long nights on tour and in the studio added up to some pretty big bags under our eyes. Not literally (except for Richard probably), but we realized that we were drawn to the entire process to such an extent that we'd rather do it all night than even entertain the idea of sleep. MGNTK was about our draw to all this music-ing and just having a good time. We didn't think about it too hard, we just wanted a song that felt like the wave and vibe we were riding at the time.

TGM: “MGNTK” is your most pop leaning song – what was different about the song writing process for this one compared to your previous releases?
BLCKBX: Funny you should say that! We actually had what we called a "Pop" version and a "Baile" version that we used to A/B, unsure which we liked more. We would go back and forth and back and forth and decided to take some time from it. A couple months later, we found ourselves at a crazy Haitian party in Miami and took some notes (ok maybe the day after).
First of all, the guitar work was crazy. Those rhythms and syncopations....mmmmmhmmmm.....
Second of all (and most importantly), the groove never stopped. The drums kept going and there was rarely any "down time" in the beat/song. We actually ended up rearranging MGNTK to have that exact same effect; cutting out sections here and there to keep it UP!
Anyways, we write most of our stuff on acoustic guitar - we get all the lyrics and melodies down first. Aside from the structural and stylistic evolution, this wasn't any different. We were a bit blissed out with the whole idea that we could even write songs together and that might be reflected in the brighter sentiment of the song. We still beat up every section and word as usual - trying to make sure each part is all it can be, but overall the sound probably doesn't stem from us trying to write poppy, but more so "feeling" poppy at he time.
If you will, of course.
And you shall.

TGM: How long have you had “MGNTK” ready to go? And why does it feel right to release at this time?
BLCKBX: TOO LONG
Well, actually finished... probably 3 months... but we wrote it like 7 months ago when we were first starting.
You know we could have probably dropped it in January, but then it's like "Hey, we know it's really cold and kind of snowing outside, but here's a song that sounds like beach balls and unicorns". Not that that's a bad thing, but most unicorns don't do well in the cold. “MGNTK” is more of a Spring/Summertime jam to us, so it seemed appro-pro...
Simultaneously, we've kind of evolved since then. We're a damn young band and sometimes we forget that. We've found our place on stage and we really learned to have fun with that on this record. For example, Maite goes ham as our live DJ - mixing up various Carioca samples into our live songs; and Richard plays obnoxiously long guitar solos. We figured - why not just do it in a song or something? So we ended up with this weird DJ/Guitar dual bridge comprised of us feeding off each other and getting weird with jazz chords and Tizzle sampling her own voice ... It was fun.

With a new release officially out in the world, Richard and Maite of Blckbx aren’t slowing down. They’ve got more music to release and more live shows coming up including an event at The Study in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 9th 2018 for Mighty Lab Productions’ Breaking Sound event. For more information be sure to check out the event HERE and be sure to check out their latest single above!
