🌺 tsubaki hiraite / haka ga aru — taneda santōka
I’ve never really paid much attention to flower language but, from what I’ve learned online, camellias are thought to represent lifelong devotion between a young couple - unlike most flowers, the calyx which supports and protects the petals apparently falls alongside them after they’ve finished blooming. A pink camellia is a symbol of longing for a lover who is absent (!), and a red one is a sign of passion.
@whatminaloves — I wanted to make you an edit too so this is Part II of your @tgvalentine2018/White Day gift! Sorry again for being so late, I hope you can forgive me! Kaneki was reading Santōka poems earlier in :re (he even shared some with Mutsuki!) and I had never really read anything by him so I started going through some, and I got to thinking that Touka would probably like them too! She says she’s bad with Japanese lit but the cool thing about a lot of the haiku I ended up reading was that they really beautifully articulated normal, everyday experiences and thoughts. They were short and simple and totally unpretentious. I really liked this one because of the way it speaks to life and death; hope and despair. I thought that tied in really well with Ken and Touka’s whole journey together  ✌

for @idelimma! happy valentine’s day! i’m your secret valentine for @tgvalentine2018 ☆
the white knight ♘
a fearsome weapon, a curved blade of the chessboard; the knight moves intuitively and confidently, in the angles of lightning and lines straight as the slash of a sword. with each step he takes, he plants his feet in both the dark dominions and light limits — he is an ambiguous power. yet he is unwavering in his assurance, prepared to always throw the first punch; for hidden beneath his sleeve is an unpredictable trick that no other piece could even imagine.
the white queen ♕
the true sovereign of the board, the queen is the most powerful piece in any game. unfettered by any of the rules that apply to the other pieces, the queen is able to move wherever he pleases; he is the very image of unrelenting, unlimited potential. stand in the way of the queen, and find your own life forefeit. the king’s power is only a sham; do not underestimate the queen, or you may find yourself at the mercy of his ire.
the black rook ♜
sturdy, straightforward, reliable — do not let the rook’s stoic demeanor and solid defense fool you for who he actually is. you may know him as rocca, the italian fortress; but he is also rukh, the persian siege chariot; a cruel mountain of arrows and flame. he is stunning power and humbling logic. he is the rook bird, a night-clad raven, cawing from above you, prophesizing doom from his hoarfrost-white beak.

FINALLY I CAN POST THIS. Happy belated valentines to @juulookzousketchy!! I’ve never considered this ship before but now you’ve indirectly dragged me to juusei hell, thanks :) also I intended this to be a fic, but it turned out to be too long to be finished soon (the unfinished outline itself was already 3k words… the end product might be 15-20k words, orz). SO I decided to draw it just a couple of days before Valentine’s.
    The title would be waves of old tension & new life, inspired by IAMX’s song The Void. Mostly hurt/comfort with a dash of fluff and smut, and lots of tactless Juuzou, angry Seidou, and two frustrated peeps in general.
    But I’m not giving up on that fic yet. Until it is finished, have a written & drawn excerpt of it!
    Also thanks a lot for the mods of @tgvalentine2018, bless you for organising this!! ;w;
“You can have a bite, you know.”
    “The fuck?”
    He felt Juuzou shrug. When Seidou turned to look at him (and would’ve ruined the braid had Juuzou not tied it quick enough) the younger male replied with a quizzical look. As if his words made the absolute perfect sense, not Seidou’s.
    “It’s not like I feel pain.”
    As if Seidou was questioning the obvious.
    “Shut up. That’s not the case.”
    “A lot of ghouls said I’m pretty delicious.”
    What the hell? Seidou clicked his tongue. “Stop messing around! Don’t say it like it’s something trivial! You think it’s like a game, huh? Well, let me tell you: it’s not.” Juuzou didn’t (need to) know how much the prospect excited Seidou and his ghoulish palate. So much that he’ll hate himself forever if he let himself loose and chew a chunk of Juuzou’s flesh. Hell, he’d starve himself to death if he did.
    Seidou bit his bottom lip at the thought. “Whatever,” he muttered. He turned away and propped himself up from the floor, trying to stand up.     Except he couldn’t because Juuzou pulled him back down. By the braid. Dammit!
    The ghoul landed back on the floor with a faint thud. He could’ve sworn Juuzou snickered as he fell. Seidou spun around. “You know I have meat supplies, right? Oi, bastard, let go—” His words died when Juuzou’s hands were on his shoulders. Those wiry hands, as well as those cerise irises’ gaze, somehow held him in place. Juuzou’s eyes resembled murky pools of blood, but Seidou could make out a few emotions swirling underneath, swimming under their surface.
    There’s a hint of annoyance – frustration. Hesitation.
    Determination.
    And want.
    “Do you think I didn’t see you eyeing me all the time?”
    Seidou froze. He could feel heat rising to his ears and cheeks. Juuzou started to blush too – he could sense it – but his hands remain planted on his shoulders. Doesn’t mean I’ll take a bite! It’s not just because of that. I have other reasons. It’s because – i-it’s – fuck it, you idiot, you— but Juuzou lowered his head, closing their distance despite Seidou’s internal monologue. Their noses were only a couple centimetres apart. The perfect proximity for a head-butt, if Seidou willed so.
    Instead he chose to let their breaths mingle as he murmured, “… I can eat your whole face for all I care.” It was a desperate last attempt to ditch the scene – which was completely half-assed, and Juuzou thought so too, because he let Seidou know by flashing him a coy smile.
    “Nope, you won’t.” With that Juuzou closed his eyes and puckered his lips.         And then Seidou kissed him.

Hello this is a very late @tgvalentine2018 gift for @amiboshi234, whose valentine dropped out of the exchange! I hope you enjoy it and sorry for making you wait so long!!
hidekane, 1000~ words, a bit angsty
Hide was really good at first impressions of other people. He had a knack for looking at someone and thinking, “Oh, they’re nice. I want to be their friend.” and being completely right. When he moved to Tokyo as a kid, as soon as he was led into his new classroom and saw Kaneki, he was smacked in the face with that feeling.
He spent his first day in class enthralled with the quiet boy who had his nose buried in a book, even though in comparison to the other rowdy students, he really wasn’t doing much. When recess began, Hide decided he wanted to ask Kaneki to be his friend. To his surprise and for the first time that he could remember, he felt nervous about talking to someone new. The turn of his stomach as he approached Kaneki, who was sitting on the hill outside the school and reading by himself, was something he’d never experienced. The cute, shocked look on Kaneki’s face when Hide startled him just by saying hello gave Hide an unfamiliar comfort. The way he fumbled with his bookmark as he closed his book, his eyes still trained on Hide. Turning the book over and over in his hands, tracing the edges with his fingers, blushing as he listened to Hide’s proposal of friendship. Kaneki’s small, soft, bruised hand in his own as he received the weakest handshake. The first time Hide ever saw him smile…
~~~
Hide wakes up suddenly, an aching feeling in his chest and his mask sticking to his damp, tearstained face. His scars throbbed, something that always seemed to happen after Kaneki made an appearance in his dreams. He sat up abruptly and looked around the darkened room while his eyes adjusted from underneath his scratchy burlap sack of a mask. No sign of Marude. Alarmed, he felt around him for his notepad and hoped he’d left a note.
“There was an emergency. Will be back before sunrise. Don’t do anything stupid.”
His stomach dropped. Marude didn’t like to leave him alone for extended periods of time, so it must have been something important. He and Marude had taken up residence in some rundown shack in the rural outskirts of Tokyo. It was dusty, dull, and small, but it provided a suitable place for them to hide out. It was a decent enough situation, but one thing always caused trouble for Hide.
Hide loved Kaneki. It was as simple as that.
Everytime he was left alone, his willpower was tested. He was tempted to risk everything and anything to talk to Kaneki again. To see him up close. To help him.
He’d been granted very few opportunities to do any of these coveted things since going into hiding. He’d gotten away with it once, making it look like an accident when he hit a button that broadcasted Kane- Sasaki’s screams of pain to everyone in the building and alerted his squad to his location.
Thanks to his skill with technology, as well as his and Marude’s connections, Hide was able to know vaguely where Kaneki had been lately, though this made it even harder to keep himself from going to him. He was completely drawn to him, just like the first day he met him so many years ago. He did his best to talk himself out of it. After all, he’d be no use to Kaneki if he were to die, if he got captured or killed by the Washuu’s. He didn’t survive Kaneki eating from his face for nothing.
He winced at the memory, the last proper conversation he’d had with Kaneki, over four years ago. Even then, he wasn’t in the right state of mind. It was likely Kaneki didn’t remember any of it anyway. He didn’t even remember his own identity, and he probably didn’t remember Hide.
His breathing became more rapid and he yanked off his mask. He felt his way through the dark room over to the tiny sink in the corner and splashed water on his face, like he always did after crying. It was a comfort thing. Without trying to or wanting to, he felt the subtly raised scars that Kaneki had left him as he gently cleaned his face.
With Marude gone, and having just woken up from a painful dream about Kaneki, Hide felt vulnerable and downright sick. Every instinct he had was screaming at him to go, go now, while he had the chance. It was so difficult to be his own voice of reason after wanting nothing more than to do the same simple thing every single day for years now.
All he wanted was to be with Kaneki. Just to see him, if being with him was too much. He knew Kaneki had changed, he had more of a life as a ghoul now than as a human, and he would understand if he didn’t have a place beside him anymore, he really would… But he needed to see him. Regardless. No matter what he had to do, he would see Kaneki again.
He leaned over the sink, a white-knuckled grip on the edges as he tried to focus on anything besides how badly he wanted to go to him. He heard the creak of the door open and his heart began to race.
“Hide?” It was Marude. There was noticeable concern in his voice. He was well aware of the urges that Hide suffered and the risk he’d taken by leaving him alone for so long.
In a second Marude was behind him and let out a dramatic sigh of relief.
“You had me worried, kid,” he muttered. Hide didn’t move. “You alright? Should I get your notebook?”
Hide lowered himself to his knees, feeling so stupid for crying. He was glad Marude came back before he could let himself make such a huge mistake, but he still felt so bad.
He could never get used to the lack of sound when he sobbed. All that came out was ragged breathing and a lot of tears. It was embarrassing. Marude kneeled beside him and placed a firm hand on his shoulder, and he cried harder.
Part 2 of my @tgvalentine2018 for @umidarkocean !! I hear you like emotional hide x kaneki so I was thinking about hide needing his heart put back together after kaneki breaks it and kaneki feeling like he killed his best friend :“”“”) (I got nervous about this present because I only can draw traditional sketches so I added the edits just so I could give you something more than my artistic struggle)
@necroziimph Happy Valentine's Day from your secret admirer! :v
The click clack of heels against granite alerted Kaneki of someone’s presence from down the hall. He looked to his wristwatch and then towards the corner to see if he was right about who’d be coming around in just a second; he turned out to be right, indeed. He frowned noticeably, tapping the glass of his watch with urgency, and opened his mouth to chastise Eto only to be greeted with a stare he knew all too well. Eto lifted her middle finger with a tilt of her head, kissed her fingertip long enough to stain it red with the lipstick she was wearing, and showed it to Kaneki with a teasing grin.
Kaneki shook his head, frown deepening and cheeks already turning rosey as he stopped Eto from entering through the heavy double doors in front of them to put a hand on her shoulder. She turned to look at him with a raised brow of confusion as Kaneki leaned in close to whisper in her ear.
“Your publisher called to tell you he can’t make it to lunch. so you’re free until five o’clock for today.”
Eto laughed and patted Kaneki’s cheek before placing a hand to his chest and pushing him away. Kaneki was used to Eto’s confusing signs of affection, but was still unamused with her hot and cold behavior. She was too unpredictable, too mysterious for him to crack. But that’s what made the challenge of getting to know her that much more worthwhile.
“God, I can’t wait for this to be over!” She groaned, pausing to stretch.
She adjusted her messy bun and then looked back at Kaneki and winked, thrilled at making him blush again and look to the side in embarrassment as she threw open the double doors. Camera flashes and the clamoring voices of news reporters calling for Eto’s attention grounded Kaneki enough to push them both forward to a table waiting for them. Eto made a show of sitting down slowly in the chair Kaneki had pulled out for her as she gathered her bearings and smiled for the cameras.
“Ms. Takatsuki! Ms. Takatsuki! Where you expecting such a turnout for your latest horror novella?”
"Ms. Takatsuki! How do you feel about your book being ranked number one on Japan’s best-sellers list for the last three weeks?”
“Ms. Takatsuki! Do you ever plan on making a film franchise with your works?”
“Do you have any tips for any aspiring writers out there?”
Kaneki stepped forward and raised a hand to silence the crowd. A female reporter timidly raised her hand for Kaneki to call on her. He nodded in her direction, making the reporter squeak with nerves.
“Um… Ms. Takatsuki?”
“Yes~?” Eto replied, drawing out her response and locking eyes with the reporter.
The woman visibly gulped and shifted in her seat. “Y-Yes, um… Ms. Takatsuki? Where did the inspiration for your latest novella come from?”
“From here and there,” Eto began, playing with a cup of water handed to her. “The main protagonist, although much less quieter and more of a brute, is based off of a man I know and have come to like very much~” Eto giggled, innocent persona in full bloom. Kaneki’s eyes lowered in suspicion at her comment. He wondered if he knew who she was referring to and pushed that to the back of his mind.
Eto answered questions for the next hour and a half, entertaining the camera crew and reporters long enough to have them laughing and casually chatting with her the entire time. As confused as Kaneki always was regarding his feelings towards his client, he always admired how charming Eto could be and how natural she could make public interviews out to be. Kaneki thought about how he’d look like a deer caught in headlights if he were ever in Eto’s shoes and felt a nervous shiver run down his spine.
Eto noticed this out of the corner of her eye and leaned back in her seat casually, draping an arm around it. She made a joke about her rising popularity and how she’d needed to hire herself a body guard because of it, pointing at Kaneki to her side. He tightened his fists behind his back as he felt his nerves begin to rise. He’d told her time and time again to keep attention off of him for her own safety and pretend like he wasn’t there instead, but Eto would snicker in his face every time and flick his nose as a form of retaliation.
“I know this guy looks like he could tear your head off with that body of his, and trust me– he can,– but it’s only because I’m paying him to be my shadow. He’s harmless to you guys though, so feel free to ask him stuff about me whenever you want.”
Some photographers shifted their focus to Kaneki and snapped a few pictures of him, much to Kaneki’s annoyance. A few reporters asked Kaneki what it was like to be by Eto’s side on a day to day basis, but the only thing that seemed to come up was Eto’s annoyed face grunting at him to fuck off and give her five more minutes of sleep… at noon the day before. Kaneki chuckled to himself and simply answered, “She really likes her beauty sleep."
******
Later in the day and hours after Eto’s interview, Kaneki drove Eto back to her condo without a word from her in the backseat. Kaneki wondered if he had done something wrong to have upset her and then asked himself why he’d possibly be responsible for Eto’s sudden change in demeanor. He hoped he wasn’t the cause for her uncharacteristic behavior. Opting to distract her from her troubles, he asked her what she’d like for dinner from her chef. She smirked devilishly, looked at him through the rear view mirror and said, “You~”
Kaneki nearly rammed into the fender of the car in front of them from shock as Eto cackled in her seat, clutching her sides from laughing so hard. Kaneki felt his face burn as he readjusted his glasses and lifted a hand in apology to the driver in front of him flipping him the finger. Kaneki clenched his gloved hands tightly onto the steering wheel and ignored Eto as she continued to barrage him with sultry comments. After pulling up to the parking lot and going to Eto’s side of the car to open her door, Eto grabbed onto Kaneki’s toned arm and gave it a pinch.
Kaneki was at an utter loss for words, feeling his patience with her silliness begin to shrink with time. Eto linked her arm with his, dragging him through the lobby doors, into the elevator, and to her apartment. Eto spent the entire time whispering foul things into Kaneki’s ear, so much so that by the time they’d entered the apartment, Kaneki had slammed the door shut behind them.
“Someone’s in a mood~” Eto teased, twirling around into the kitchen to fetch herself a cup.
Kaneki grumbled and sulked off into the living room. He plopped himself down rather forcefully onto the couch and pinched the bridge of his nose in irritation, hearing Eto hum an unfamiliar tune behind him. In the next minute, he felt a tap to his forehead and looked up to be mere inches away from Eto’s devious face. He tried shooing her away, but she dodged his arm and came around to stand in front of him. He heard the clinking of ice inside her cup and questioned what it was for.
“Did you think I was lying when I said I wanted you for dinner?” Eto smirked.
Kaneki was about to retort when Eto yanked him forwards by his tie. He felt his heartbeat stutter and his pants get just a bit tighter, his hands nervously clawing into the seat cushions below him to keep himself from shaking. Eto stared him down with a sinister smirk etched onto her face before leaning in to place a gentle kiss on his lips. Kaneki quickly melted into the affection, feeling her tongue skillfully pry his lips open and snake its way inside his mouth. Eto was skilled at making him shiver and moan as she flicked her tongue over his own and delicately across the roof of his mouth, much to Kaneki’s surprise.
He made a sound of protest when she finally pulled away, a dribble of saliva coming away with Eto’s bottom lip. She laughed softly and tugged harder on Kaneki’s tie, a whimper escaping Kaneki’s throat.
“You always act like you don’t love what I throw your way, yet here you are sitting with a growing tent in between your legs~”
Kaneki gulped back a grunt when Eto pulled him to his feet and did not protest when she led him to her bedroom, laughing the entire time.
