it is a normal saturday night out with a few of your friends in the city of london. after making plans for dinner a few days ago, it is finally time to meet up at the chosen restaurant.

you and your boyfriend josh arrive exactly on time - just like the rest of the group. josh opens the door for you to step into the restaurant, and you thanj him by shooting him a quick smile, making his face light up as well.

your friend talia tells the staff about the reservation and soon enough you are all seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant. you and josh sit at the edge of the table, making small conversation with your friends and each other.

laughter is cut off by the waiter, who places down menus in front of everyone. “would you like anything to drink before you order?” he asks you, and you meet his gaze. you gulp when you notice his eyes scanning your body in the tight dress you’re wearing.

josh notices too, and immediately start clenching and unclenching his jaw, frown forming on his face. “we’ll take a bottle of red wine,” he hisses, making the waiter smirk. “great choice. i’ll be back soon,” the unnamed man smiles knowingly and starts walking off.

you shoot him a forced smile until he’s out of sight, and meet josh’s eyes afterwards. your hand lands on his on the table, and his eyes immediately soften, forgetting all about the strange interaction.

that is, until the waiter comes back with a cooler and the bottle you requested. he pours you a glass, meeting your eyes when he says “one for the stunning lady...” he pours another glass and looks at josh, “...and one for her brother! are you ready to order already?”

you grab your glass to take a sip and giggle slightly. brother, yeah right. jealousy clouds josh’s mind when he looks over to you and replies in an aggressive tone, “me and the stunning lady over here will both be taking the smoked salmon dish.”

“nah bro i’d actually rather have the vegan pasta with artichoke sauce, please,” you reply, grinning at the waiter. he winks back, “coming right up.”

he makes a swift exit and josh glares at you from across the table, making you giggle. “what? what is it?” you laugh, but he genuinely looks pissed. oh well, it was just banter.

you spend the rest of the evening talking mostly to talia and her boyfriend simon. josh started grumpily ignoring you after your interaction with the waiter, but it doesn’t bother you all that much: it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously anyway.

the meal is delicious, and when the waiter shows up again and asks what you want for dessert, he licks his lips and once again looks you up and down. you look over to josh who is staring you down possessively. “actually, i think we’re gonna leave dessert for another time, right josh?” you ask, and josh’s eyebrows shoot up in confusion.

“yeah just give us the check and we’ll be heading out,” josh responds weakly, his eyes never leaving your face. you finally break the eye contact and look up to the disappointed face of the waiter who has been trying to hit on you the entire night.

the unnamed man nods and takes his leave, returning with the check soon after. “wait, you’re leaving already?” your friend jj shouts to you from across the table, and you nod in response whilst josh sorts out the bill. “but you haven’t even had dessert yet! ohhh-“ realisation hits jj when josh stands up next to you, who places his hand on the small of your back. jj shoots you a wink and your cheeks turn red, giving him a weak smile.

“goodnight guys! enjoy the rest of your meal,” you wave at the group of friends at the table and follow josh outside.

a short and silent uber drive later, the two of you arrive back in your shared appartement. you shake off your heels at the entrance and follow josh to the couch.

“that was fun,” you exclaim as you plop down next to him, lazy smile on your face when you rest your head onto his shoulder. you look over at him while he’s staring off into the distance. you admire his features for a second when he suddenly speaks up.

“except that part where that stupid guy flirted with you. oh wait, that was only the entire night,” he meets your eyes and suddenly you realise that the look on his face isn’t annoyance, but pain.

you frown in response. “you do know i was just playing with you and i wasn’t interested in that guy at all, right?” you say, concerned. you try to catch the emotion in his eyes before he looks down at his fiddling hands. “it’s just... you could’ve just easily left me and gone with him, you know? he was way more good looking than i am anyway, and i mean, you can definitely do better than me.”

your jaw drops when you realise he isn’t kidding. “josh, oh my god look at me,” you sit up straight and grab his cheeks in your hands, forcing him to look into your eyes. your fingertips slowly brush against his cheeks, holding his gaze for a second whilst heaving out a sigh. “do you really think i could ever replace you?”

a slight smile appears on his face when he answers, “i don’t know, to be honest.” he looks away for a second, before continuing, “i can be very insecure when it comes to you. i mean, i feel like the luckiest man alive whenever i’m with you, and i don’t want anyone to take that feeling away from me. i don’t want anyone to take you away from me.”

you get even closer to him, your features mirroring his, and you shake your head. “nobody will ever take me away from you. i’m one hundred percent yours.”

your foreheads meet and josh sweeps a strand of hair out of your face in a sweet gesture. his eyes scan your face, and land on your lips. you close the distance by leaning into him and pushing your lips against his.

he pulls back. “i’m sorry. for doubting you i mean. and for being so insecure.” you peck his lips again before replying, “don’t be sorry. you got me, okay?” your mouths crash into each other again, this time with a lot more passion.

with a sudden boost of confidence, josh pulls back, takes a deep breath, and says “so about that dessert?”
