@teashoesandhair since you have dragged me headfirst into this amusing Q-007 idea of yours, I want you to know I have come up with a plot.

The movie begins in near-darkness. We see Bond outside MI6 with a masked figure in black. There are sounds of a struggle. At last there’s a gadgety little beep and a door slides open.

BOND: you expect us to surrender?

HENCHMAN: No, Bond. We expect you to die.

A gun is raised, the trigger is cocked—and a phone rings. This phone turns out to belong to Q, who answers it with the charming “someone had better be dying, or you’re about to be” in the just-woke-up croak of a man still lying in bed with his eyes closed. A voice on the other end asks where he works. He asks “what time do you think it is, doing surveys before sunup?”

Bond’s voice comes on the line. It is EXTREMELY clear he’s reading from a script. He states the sins of the Empire can never be cleared, but they can be paid for. It’s quite clear from his voice that he’s in pain, although whether physical or emotional or both is up for question. Then in the same tone of voice he says “go left” and that is why Q rolls off the bed just in time for a bullet to go through it.

We cut to Q in power-walking down a hallway in MI6. He is wearing a polo shirt and looks deeply upset about this. A woman with a bun is jogging along beside him and apologizing because, she says, it’s the only shirt she still has from before. He stops, looks irritated, and says “M is dead. Her replacement just got kidnapped, the guy I’ve been seeing for the last three months was a plant, I almost got shot less than an hour ago, I’m reasonably sure someone is trying to assassinate the Queen, you and I are the only two people who made it to MI6 this morning, I’m freezing AND I STILL HAVEN’T HAD COFFEE.”

His coworker says they have to find Bond, who might have some information on what’s going on and, at the very least, is actually a 00 agent. She actually starts laying out a plan while Q finds a Keurig, brews a cup, and drains the whole thing in one go. She finally trails off while he gets to the bottom of a mug of genuinely alarming size. He plonks it on the counter, says he’s getting on his computer, and tells her to call the palace and ensure the Queen is under secure guard.

THE LADY WHO IS ABOUT TO BE 001 BECAUSE 001 IS POTENTIALLY KIA: someone took out all of MI6 in a night, including the 00 agents, and you’re going to trust a bunch of Beefeaters? Who all look the same in uniform? As though they couldn’t be impersonated?

Q: …..fuck.

Q, who is currently the closest thing MI6 has to a head of command, calls the palace in an official capacity to speak to the Queen directly. He announces he’ll be sending a 00 agent and under no circumstances should the Queen be without her. Outfits the new 001 with the usual—earpiece, fancy gun, IT toys—and, before he sends her off, says “give me your ID.” A minor argument ensues before he says “The only way to find all of MI6 is through the database. That means the reason they didn’t find you is because they were looking for a man, whose name would match with the one on your ID, now give it to me. The one time government backlog worked in your favor.”

She hands it over and asks what he’s going to do. To which he rolls his eyes so hard they might fall out of his head, and says: “I’m going to find Bond.”

The rest of the movie alternates between 001 and an action plot on her end, keeping the Queen out of danger and trying to gather intel from within the palace to see just how badly it’s been infiltrated, and Q first tracing a rogue computer signal and then sighing, grabbing a 00 kit, and taking off with something that looks like a cell phone but is actually a very tiny computer hooked into the MI6 mainframe.

This adventure proceeds much like a typical Bond outing, except that Q has to do it via backdoors and finding the nerdy interns and invisible staff of the high-powered people Bond would normally work with. He finds Bond, hacks him out of whatever mess he’s in, and they make for the exit in a firefight while Bond covers him and he ineffectually tries to assist. It’s not that he doesn’t know how to shoot a gun—it’s that previously, outside training, he has never NEEDED to, and he jammed the magazine. So as they go, he’s trying to fix the gun and keep an eye out for the door with the RFID scanner so he can get them the hell out of there. As they reach the door Bond runs out of bullets, Q finally gets his gun fixed, and as somebody aims to take off Bond’s head (complete with a laser sight, this guy’s not gonna miss), Q gets off his first shot for the entire scene and lays the guy out.

Q: ….fuck I just killed someone.

BOND: it comes with the job.

Q: it comes with YOUR job, I don’t have a 00 designation.

BOND: I’m promoting you.

Q: oh, thanks—WAIT—

(And then he shoots someone else. He still looks vaguely panicked about this. In all fairness to Q, he has had one HELL of a day and there’s been exactly one caffeinated beverage in it, and he still doesn’t have a cardigan.)

They get back to MI6 just in time for Q to pick up an errant GPS signal: missing agents! Four of them! That’s enough to make a skeleton recon team!

…but also, they’ve just gotten a phone call from the villain, congratulating Q on being SO clever…but not clever enough. The Queen is in imminent danger. 001 has evacuated her from the palace. “Ah, but London Bridge is falling down. Good day, Mr. Q,” says the villain, and hangs up.

From this, Q deduces that the Queen has been taken to St. Magnus-the-Martyr Church at London Bridge, and that it’s likely the villain means to blow it up. They need the extra manpower promised by that clutch of agents, but the villain made it sound like any moment the Queen would be dead. Bond announces he’s going after the agents.

Q: so that’s it then? We have to uphold the agency because England is about to plunge into chaos?

BOND: no. I’m going for the agents. You’re going to the church.

Which Q does, muttering under his breath the whole way. As he has been for most of this movie, actually. This is not the job he signed up for. But he goes, he gets in a very Bondish fight with his now-ex who is indeed a henchman for the villain, and just at the end when he COULD shoot him, he doesn’t:

Q: ….no. I’m not killing you. Give me my sweater.

HENCHMAN: …..sorry?

Q: my sweater. That’s my sweater, I’ve been freezing all day. Give me my sweater.

HENCHMAN: *extremely confused, but complies*

Q: *puts it on* better. Where were we again? Oh. *definitely shoots the henchman* Your Majesty. My apologies.

….to which the actual villain pops in with some sarcastic applause and an appropriate Bond Villain Speech(tm). Q realizes he has two bullets left and this asshole is staying just enough in the shadows that Q can’t accurately clock him.

There’s some sarcastic banter, during which 001 manages to get the Queen away again. The villain is pissed, but he’s like “that’s fine. You are, yourself, just a representative of corruption” and takes aim….

….just in time for the actual, original 001 to put a gun to the back of his head.

In the end:

1) The Queen is safe*

2) Bond is designated M

3) The lady Q designated as 001 is redesignated as Q. Also, in thanks for her service to the Crown, the Queen personally pushes through Lady Q’s ID with corrected gender on it.

4) The found MI6 agents begin seeking their counterparts, most of whom are alive and imprisoned rather than killed.

5) And, at the Queen’s suggestion—she’s shocked to find out all of this was masterminded by an IT tech, not a heavily-trained agent—Bond makes Q’s promotion official, and designates him 007.

Little bit of Mass Effect Salt Incoming

So, one of my favorite twitch/youtube personalities recently released a video about his favorite series ever, mass effect! While I was initial thrilled (I didn’t even know he played ME tbh) I gotta say I’m a more than a bit salty about it. I still love him and and watch his stuff, clearly ain’t nobody perfect, but I want to get some things off my chest and most of the people I know who are into ME follow me here. SO here goes.

Here’s the thing, he absolutely hates one of my favorite characters from the franchise. He made jokes about leaving them to die, not regretting it, how horrible a character they are, and even references several moments in the first game as the source of his opinions. He goes into far less details from the 2nd and 3rd games in the franchise, but contends that they failed to change his mind.

Now, it will come as no surprise to some of you that he hates Ashley Williams.

For the sake of clarity, I’m going to get some stuff out of the way right here before explaining to you what he said and why I disagree:

- I have done multiple playthroughs of ME. One included the Ash Romance.

- Most of my playthroughs I romanced Liara.

- My opinions are not ‘ASH IS BEST GIRL CHANGE MY MIND’

- Before someone @’s me with some bullshit, I’d just like to observe I’ve heard a ton of Ash Hatred since I got into the fandom. I would be surprised if you were bringing something new to my attention when it comes to Ash. I’ve spent a great deal of my time playing this game and even more following other content creators of any medium I could find. Please Please Please PLEASE don’t waste your time regurgitating something you heard someone else say and I SWEAR BEFORE ALL THAT IS GOOD if I hear one more “She’s just a ____” comment I will end you no character in this series is “just” anything.

- THIS IS NOT KAIDEN ALENKO HATRED. I actually find the Virmire decision heart wrenching every time.

- Finally, before we move on, I’m not telling you how to play the goddamn game. I have enough trouble with Virmire, Horizon, and the Coup d’etat missions in my own playthrough, I have no intention of re-living the guilt and stress of it for someone else’s Shepard. I got enough emotional baggage from this game already thanks. MOVING ON “Ashley is a space racist.” ALRIGHT listen up kiddos. Her Grandfather, the one who started the Williams Curse? He did that by creating and signing off on Cerberus during the First Contact War. The pro-human splinter group founded during the first encounter and conflict with aliens that humanity experiences? That was her Grandfather’s Idea. And yes, she begins ME1 with some pretty racist commentary. “Can’t tell the aliens from the animals” is a reprehensible line. Now, I don’t think she says anything reprehensible when she talks to Shepard about not liking the aliens on the Normandy, but I can also agree that it comes from a place of fear and discomfort, and that definitely contributes to the argument that she’s a space racist. HOWEVER: what a lot of the Ash haters miss is a moment after Virmire on the Citadel, in the wards, when a isolationist xenophobic populist party known as the Terra Firma party approaches Shepard asking for their support in the next election. This comes after Ashley has had a chance to work with Wrex, Garrus, Tali, and Captain Kirrahe. She DRAGS the leader through the muck, stating that while she likes some of the parties platform the party is full of racists and the refusal by the Terra Firma leaders to denounce the racist comments and racists members of the party is enough to lose them her vote already. She gets so heated about Shepard has to command her to stand down. You don’t get to cherry pick her interactions from ME1 and ignore her character growth. She also falls right into her big sister roll with Tali almost immediately. She tells Tali that it took years to get women accepted in the military. When Tali responds that the Migrant Fleet doesn’t have the luxury of sexism, she replies “sounds great, but I don’t think I could get used to the uniform.” In ME2 she refuses Shepard’s offer, despite earlier referring to Shepard as “a god back from the dead.” Why does she refuse? Because Shepard is working with Cerberus, the organization her GRANDFATHER CREATED. She’s all for the Alliance, and the Alliance is either working with or directing the Citadel Council having earned an honored spot after the Geth attack 2 years before. She is committed to working with the government that is dealing with the other races and refuses to work for Cerberus even though you could argue its in her blood and definitely in her upbringing. Honestly, I can’t fathom why people bring up this scene when trashing Ash, this is a moral stand from a woman accused of being a racist and the flip flop here even from people in the fandom I respect is baffling to me. In ME3 there are a whole plethora of scenes you could pick from but I want to talk about her reuniting with Tali. She immediately tells Tali to drop rank with her, observing they’ve been through enough together that the rank isn’t important. This is especially poignant to me if Tali herself is exiled after the events of ME2.

“Ashley is just a soldier, she doesn’t have any personality beyond that.” BULLSHIT she doesn’t. She’s struggled to find her place in the military due to the family stigma around her grandfather, so she hangs a ton of her personal identity on her family. She’s a supportive older sister, an adoring daughter, at least passingly religious if only because “there are no atheists in a foxhole.” She calls her sisters regularly, tells stories about growing up with them, mourns her late father and reads a ton of poetry, demonstrating a more critical appraisal of literature than Shepard, Vega, Joker, or even Kaidan (”its about not giving up?” is that the best you’ve got Shep? thats pathetic.) Whats more, she doesn’t just read one poet, she picked up some poems from both her “sappy” dad and more pragmatic mom. She’s also a great window to military families in ME, which you can’t really say for Kaidan or 2 out of 3 Shepard backstories. I think in a story about a war to end all wars it would be a disservice to not write about all the widowed men, women, an aliens who are living not quite far enough from the war.

“Why can’t she just trust Shepard? Why does she have to refuse to help in ME2 and then be so standoffish in ME3?” Honestly? If my lover had been declared KIA and then magically came back working under cover for a shady organization with a history of criminal crimes like murder and torture I TOO would have trust issues. I feel like we often gloss over just how horrible an organization Cerberus really is. Even ignoring the “they rebuilt you” angle which gets EVEN CREEPIER in the first Mars mission in ME3 I can’t imagine immediately flip flopping between Cerberus are war criminals to my best friend presumed dead is working for them to its alright now totally nothing out of the ordinary that compromised my opinion of their judgement took place.

So I just can’t see the Ashley Williams hate. I can see leaving her behind (no I can’t, no one ever dies in this series, how dare you tell me anyone dies?) on Virmire. But I just can’t fathom the hatred.

With all that said Kaidan is not boring, Ash is more than a racist soldier, and I love all the characters in the ME trilogy. Thank you. Good Night.

Queens of Odin’s Eye: Ch. 15

Warnings: Smut (Sorry not sorry lol I gotta a problem okay) violence

I could hear him them outside laughing like our future deaths was a celebration. They knew who I was immediately and Ivar too. They bragged about how their President was going to peel our skin from our bodies. All I could see what my little fucked up family and I couldn’t really take the silence anymore. I pushed on Ivar. They’d hit him hard. He lay straddled across the bed face down, deep sighing at time and then just silence. I push him again until he nearly falls off the bed and he groans struggling to get out of the tape but he can call that a wrap. These damn Eights had us bound up. I move over to him watching those blue eyes park to life. He shakes his head still tugging. “They’re taped.” I add watching him finally give in.

“How long was I out?”

“I don’t know, wasn’t counting.”

“Did they search me?”

“They threw your ass on that damn twin-size bed and left. They are not too far; this damn place is huge. Maybe we could leave out the window?”

“In my back pocket there is a knife, cut me loose and I will cut you next.” I reach down in his pants retrieving the knife with little grace, somehow managing to cut the black electric tape and Ivar pulls the remnants off his hands and sets me free next. “If I lift you up can you look out, see where the fuck they might have taken us?”

“Do you think they will kill us?”

“Probably.” He says without looking at me. He pulls the chair over to the window, pulls himself up a foot and peeks out to the surroundings. His muscles flex in that black shirt and my mouth is agape staring at the defined muscles there and his back. “This window is fucking small.” He growls.

“Well, we have to figure out something. I have a child, I can’t die.”

“Being a mother doesn’t make you invincible.”

“You know what Ivar, fuck you and fuck off.”

“Fuck me?” Ivar laughs stepping down. “Shut the fuck up Kia, do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk?”

I don’t respond to him at first watching him laugh full of himself. “You’re fucking rude you know that!” I turn to him flipping my hair out of my face like he does mimicking him, and I start, my voice lower and soft. “I’m Ivar, I don’t’ give a fuck. I fuck bad bitches and kill people. whoo fucking hoo. Grow the fuck up with your soft ass VOICE!”

His eyes widen, and he laughs. “I’m Kia, don’t test me I’ll fuck you up.” He pauses and starts back up with his banter mocking mine. “I love Ubbe even though he cheats on me. And we have a baby. I’ll fight for him, but he won’t for me. Blah, blah, fucking BLAH!!!” He yells his voice no longer soft but nearly roaring.

“Fuck you.” I say not conjuring up words.

“I say fuck all the fucking time!” He prances around me and shakes his head ending the routine. “I’m tired of the act, we all know you’re tough. We all know your relationship is perfect. We all fucking know. Spare us the show.”

“You’re jealous.”

“I can’t be jealous of something that I could have had and can continue to get. Fucking arguing is our foreplay baby. Keep talking shit, it makes my dick hard.”

“I fucking hate you!” I bellow walking over to him with my fist balled. Arguing with him was almost as second nature as it was with Ubbe. Every fucking Lothbrok thought they were right, I guess that included me now. My heart thumps against my chest. “You could have had me, you’re fucking right but what did you say Ivar! What did you say?”

“I know what I said.”

“You said that you didn’t want me!” My voice cracks. “I was willing to leave him and start whatever life you wanted, and you said that you didn’t want me!” I pause trying to regain my composure. He always knew how to take things to far, cutting open old wounds that I thought had healed years ago.

“I was wrong.” Ivar’s voice is low. “I’ve told you a million times. I was wrong. I was young and I know it was fucked up. I should have taken every single chance I had to be with you. Ubbe saw that, I saw it too late. I was wrong.”

“I will never leave him for you. Ubbe might be an ass and TRUST me when I say we both have our faults, but he has never made me feel like you did. NEVER!” My hands slam into his chest. “Be jealous do whatever makes you feel better but I’m his,” I tug my shirt down revealing the tat of his name on my chest. I have no idea when the tears start. Maybe it was the stress and then him looking lost in front of me.

He closes the space between us pulling me closer to him. “I’m sorry Kia, I didn’t mean it. I was wrong then, hey?” He touches my face and lifts my chin so that my eyes meet his. “I’m sorry. Do you hear me? I wish I could be in his shoes, you know that. You know that.”

“What the fuck ever.”

He laughs and his lips seem to melt into mine. “I said I was sorry. I mean it.”

“Yeah whatever.” His hands touch the nape of my back pulling us both down to the bed. “I’m not gonna let them kill you okay?”

I’m foolish. Fucking dumb. I allow him to take me down the mattress my legs spread and him in between them thrusting over and over. My body isn’t used to him, it’s been years but he’s a tad bit longer than Ubbe, his dick curves up and it’s perfect.

“Whose pussy is this?” He whispers, kissing me as he pushes into me. My head knocks against the wall and I can’t muster a word, choked at the sensations running wild all over. “Say something.” He adds. “Do I need to stop this love making and fuck you Kia? I asked you a question.” My back arches from the bed as my body shakes. “Look at you shaking.” He kisses me again sitting up over me grabbing my legs and pulling me back to him. His thrust are quick as his hand snakes around my neck. My mewls turn to yells and he doesn’t stop. “Whose?” He growls.

“Yours.” I add asking my hands down his legs causing him to growl with the pain

“Say it again.” His hips slap onto mine. “Whose pussy is this?”

“Yours.”

The door bursts open. “What the fuck?” Rollo and Court enter the room laughing with their guns slowly falling to their sides.

Ivar covers my body, hiding his smile. “Thank fuck, you saved us.”

“Get dressed! This place is gonna be swarming in a few.”

Everyone is there at the clubhouse when we arrive. Ivar is quiet looking over at me with this innocent face. “What?” I whisper.

“I was wrong.” He hops out of the car Ragnar hugging him and then shaking hands with Rollo.

Court looks at me. “Hey, look whatever happened we aren’t gonna say shit. But don’t bring that back home. Go in there get your ACTUAL man and baby. Plus… Brii has a little gift in the clubhouse for you.”

Brii and her gifts. Ubbe is at my door opening it an pulling me to him. “Did they touch you?”

“Hit on the head babe, that’s all… I fucking swear.” He kisses me, picking me up swinging me around a circle and then tossing me over his shoulder. “Ubbe!” I giggle noticing Ivar pouting in the corner. “Take me to my damn child.”

It’s a few hours of celebration with Ragnar sitting next to me talking to a few people but just taking it all in. I hold Uriah watching Ubbe playfully push Ubbe and Brii step to his aide. Court’s weird lingering close to Rollo but talking to Floki. Old Flames never truly extinguish.

“I’m not gonna say anything to him.” Ragnar whispers. “I don’t need that fucking hell storm when there are other issues. But stop it, Kia.” He touches Uriah and then his eyes, oddly blue like Ubbe’s and Ivar’s are hooked on me. “It’s a fucking club order now.” He adds. “I’ll talk to Ivar. But I mean it.”

“It’s done.” I swallow finding myself slightly scared at the threat in his voice. “I promise.”

“Good, give me him. Go have some fun. I’ll take Uriah with me to see Hvitserk.”

“Okay, thanks.” I take his advice wrapping my arms around Ubbe. “Are you winning?”

“I never lose against them.”

“Game ball.” Brii calls before he hits the ball. “Corner pocket.” She sips her beer.

“Fuck off Brii.” Ubbe laughs. He hits the green ball and it bounces off the wall knocking the eight ball into the corner pocket. He growls staring at her. “You’re a fucking cheater.”

“Dude, don’t be a pussy.” Bjorn says kissing Brii on the lips.

“Where’s Uriah?”

“Ragnar and Aslaug are headed to the hospital and they took him with them. You want to head home? I’m tired.”

“Come on baby, let’s get you home.” He shakes Bjorn’s hand and then nods at Ivar and we headed out of the door. “I think we should go to the mountains for a week or so, head up to the cabins and just breathe until this Eight shit is done.” He opens the door for me and we step into the parking lot.

The first bullet bounces of the metal siding and we dive down behind the table pulling it up to protect us from the constant rain of bullets coming down on the clubhouse. Rollo, Floki and Court are firing back from the lifted windows with Ivar at the door yelling s his bullets spray a straight line to the men in front of us.

Ubbe pops back wounding one and then another while I hand hi his next clip for him to reload. What kind of fucking shit was this?

Guatemala Mission Trip

We knew going into this endeavor that it wouldn’t be easy, but I don’t believe anything or anyone could have adequately prepared us for what we experienced during our trip to Guatemala. No amount of bug spray, hand sanitizer or Imodium could have helped us with the mental and emotional struggles we each experienced. We knew this adventure would be extremely hard on us physically – that was a given, but I don’t believe a single one of us accounted for the overwhelming emotional rollercoaster that was our first ever Dental Mission Trip with KIA. Kindness In Action – is the most appropriately named nonprofit organization based out of Alberta, Canada with an absolutely fearless and eccentric leader, Dr. Dave Maskell. As per our knowledge, we were the first dental hygiene students to ever embark on an adventure such as this – which made it all the more intimidating and exhilarating. We have our beloved instructor, Nicole Edworthy, to thank for the opportunity. Without her persistence and advocacy, we may not have ever been given a chance to experience anything like this.

Volunteer. It’s one of those words with such a lovely connotation. But how much of yourself can you give to it? How far can you push yourself for to your cause? How committed, involved, or passionate are you? Empathy – is another lovely word. I don’t believe I understood it’s true meaning until this trip. Until you’re fully immersed and standing smack dab in the middle of it - faced with the reality of it all - how could you? It wasn’t until we were done Day 1, sitting on the bus heading back to our hostel that it hit me - exactly we were doing here & why this work was so important. Some things in life are so much bigger than anything you could imagine and no matter how much you thought you knew what you were getting into – your world is rocked regardless. This project changed a lot for me in ways I find hard to describe. It went beyond trying to do some good for people we knew didn’t live the luxurious lives we do – I feel as though I benefited so much more than they did. It has shaped me in ways I doubt any other experience will ever touch on. Just a simple task we perform weekly such as teaching oral health education – became a life-alternating event. The children we were met with at these remote pop-up dental clinics were the most eager to learn. They showed more enthusiasm and attentiveness then any of the client’s I’ve instructed at our school’s clinic. My heart is overjoyed with the fact that we may have changed their lives for the better with a simple instructional session using a goofy oversized toothbrush and set of teeth. These children’s only motivation being a free toothbrush, maybe some floss or toothpaste but nonetheless they demonstrated how intelligent and quick to learn they could be, performing almost perfect technique. If all of my client’s could be taught to floss the way these children are now able to, then we’d be laughing. I’m so unbelievably proud to have had the chance to do to this.

A sharp reality check occurred to me shortly after my heartfelt oral health education morning of Day 1. These people led bare minimal lives. I began to realize I wasn’t even sure if any of the local stores would sell floss. Later in the week we happen to pass by a vender selling toothbrushes and toothpaste as a bundle on the market street and that briefly made me hopeful. But this is a reality of living in a country such as Guatemala. Even an established city such as Chisec had the bare bones as far as what we consider ‘necessities’. So tell me, what good is a flawless flossing technique without a single spool of thread to do so? My heart sinks immediately thinking of this. How do you ask someone living in parts of the world such as Chisec to prioritize purchasing toothbrushes and toothpaste over food to feed their family? You certainly can’t, just as they can’t. All the good I thought I might have done for even just one child, vanishes before my eyes and I’m at a loss. The first of many emotional rollercoaster rides. We were only able to do so much for the people of Guatemala during our brief time there. Sadly that may have just consisted solely of their first and only professional dental cleaning or tooth extraction – and we had to let that be enough. No matter the toll it took on us. However, there is a silver lining to this aspect of the trip – or should I say silver diamine. We saw countless carious lesions (or cavities) in all stages of development – and the line up for restorations and extractions was never short. A new treatment to us, with miraculous powers was the application of this silver diamine fluoride. SDF has the ability to arrest further progression of the lesion, and also eliminate pain for the individual. I can’t tell you how many stories we were told of people chewing with only one side of their mouth, or eating nothing but soft food for sometimes years due to uncomfortable pain. I can’t imagine living like that but it was so common among this population – they shook it off so easily. Something any one of us would have such a hard time tolerating – dealing with this pain day in and day out. Thankfully SDF was quick and easy to apply and seemed almost heaven sent. I can sleep better at night knowing that even if we did nothing else for these people than aid to eliminate their pain and prolong the life of their existing teeth – then we’ve made a significant difference in their overall lives.

Thankfully through every whirlwind of a day, we had an incredible team to fall back on. This sounds so cliché I realize, but my god was it ever true. Most of us arrived in small groups together conjugating at the airport in Guatemala City. We exchanged pleasantries and gathered our luggage having no idea the extent of the wild ride we were all about to take together. These were the people we set up a dental clinic daily with, operated using the most minimalistic materials and equipment, slugged at it all day in the abnormally hot and humid weather, worked full days through doing whatever was needed or asked of us to then pack it all up and lug it back to the buses to await the next day’s challenges. Our team consisted of dental students, hygienists, husbands and other family members, as well as the finest, hardest working handy men you could ever ask for and us – the first ever hygiene students, all wide eyed and bushy tailed. The group dynamic was pretty inspirational, considering you couldn’t pick a more random group if you drew names from a hat – coming from all over the country and having never spoken to one another before. We did pretty well spending the entire week together, working collaboratively on a project that most of us had no prior experience with anything even remotely similar to. It made me realize you don’t have to be a dental professional to make a dental teamwork, but you certainly have to be a team to make a dental profession work. We had one huge common denominator though – compassion. I am so honored to have been a part of this incredible group of empathetic professionals – each bringing the hugest amount of heart and give to every minute of every day. I was constantly in awe of every single one of them. Again, cliché but the absolute truth, I promise you. Plus the pizza dinners and evening laughs kept me rolling – I wouldn’t have made it through without them.

But holy heck my girls. Oh my good heavens these incredible girls. You have my whole heart. From the very beginning of this endeavor playing luggage Tetris, packing ourselves into trucks, three flights, one 6 hour bus ride, three different countries, so many food/drink/airport mishaps, grouchy mornings, grouchy afternoons, evenings, days, all the mood swings, panic attacks, near misses, and baggage checks, shared snacks, water bottles and hand sanitizers, laughs, cries and proof of life pictures – these girls came through. I wouldn’t have lasted a single day without them – they’ll deny this but I know it’s a very true fact. They each showed me themselves throughout this journey. If I take away just the smallest piece of what each of them taught me, I’ll consider myself sincerely blessed. They’re empathy, knowledge, skill, grit and grind, compassion, patience, and love for they’re profession truly moved me. These young women have what it takes to conquer the world – I have no doubt about it. Things I feared we’d struggle with, they soon proved they were thriving at, things I worried we couldn’t do – they had already gone ahead and done, things I wasn’t sure if we should tackle – they jumped right in with. These women are my inspiration, my goals, and my tribe. I have a love for them that won’t ever be diminished – because we did this - completely together. There are never enough thank you’s to the ones who pull you through or give you they’re last granola bar – absolutely the most touching gesture.

I can only hope to bring forward into my career, the vast amount of knowledge, skill and compassion I gained during this trip. My outlook on dental hygiene has now been expanded worldwide. Typically in office, we are told our most common client will be at a DD1 status (low in degree of difficulty in dental hygiene school terms). This is relative to the part of the world we’re blessed to be living in, but also the region in our province of Ontario. Although the population of Guatemala had particular dental attributes, I believe if we were to travel outside of our main cities, to regions of Ontario that are more remote, without fluorinated water and with less to dental care – we may experience similar conditions. I hope that during my career I am able to travel throughout Canada to aid the people in our own country whom are in need. With the experience I obtained from this trip to Guatemala, I feel as though I am better equipped to service these more vulnerable populations. The care I provide would be better geared towards them – with a greater understanding of their struggles, and dental needs. I feel I will be able to prioritize appropriate treatments and oral health education specific to the individual and based on their way of life. I look forward to future trips to help expand my knowledge of these remote locations an their specific needs.

Perhaps the highlight of this journey isn’t something that can be pinpointed – it’s in the everyday life that follows - the constant reminders and memories, the things you bring forward with you into each day. I wake up more thankful, more patient, in a kinder mood, with a slower pace, and brighter eyes that stay fixated on the important things for a little longer. I remember telling my loved ones when I left, to expect a changed girl when I returned… but to be completely honest – I’ve never felt more like myself after all this. And that is an indescribable feeling that I hope more people pursue. However that may be. Find your journey and let it find you.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO FOUGHT AND DIED OR WHO CONTINUE TO FIGHT TO THIS DAY BECAUSE YOU CARED ABOUT SOMETHING MORE THAN YOURSELVES AND YOU WERE WILLING TO GIVE IT ALL TO PROTECT US ALL - THANK YOU!!!

AVÉ NINHURSAG, Blessed Mother, Creattix and Overseer, Hear Us! Memorial Day is a time when we remember those who fought and died for us who are put their lives on the line to protect and defend what they love and millions of people who they will never meet! On this day many people have gatherings, barbecues and talk about family and friends who are overseas or stationed stateside but in another area regaling one another with stories from the past and even some shared by the Soldiers when they had a leave or during a phone call.

This day should never be seen as just another excuse to have a bbq or drink beer because had it not been for those who enlisted those who DO regard it are actively DISregarding the whole reason for the day in the first place. Were it not for the sacrifice being made by all those who are fighting overseas we would not have a country which, even though it's not perfect and we are going through our own struggles at this time, they call home because it would have been torn asunder by all those who would like nothing more than to see that happen!

There are unfortunately those who think the ONLY people who join the military - regardless of branch - ONLY do so because they don't care about human life, that war is a game to them and the way to win is to rack up the body count. Not only is this an INSULT to EVERYONE who fought honorably and was there to bear witness to the deaths of many other soldiers, it is ARROGANT beyond comprehension! To all those who think this I invite them to go to ANY warzone (I recommend North Korea or Syria) and implement their obviously better ideas and see how far they get with a conversation!

WAR IS HELL and no soldier in their right mind WANTS to fight let alone KILL, unfortunately when you are up against an enemy who is willing to blow themselves up and as many others as they can take with them, they don't have much of a choice! I am SICK AND TIRED of seeing these memes on social media that shows how many people were killed by a US bomber yet NOT ONE of these ignorant bastards who create this bullshit has it in them to do a death tally on how many people are slaughtered by suicide bombers IN THE SAME AREA! What about those who are willing to BURN PEOPLE ALIVE?? Not a PEEP out of the meme makers! Apparently the reality of WAR is lost on some people!

The fact is MANY of the soldiers who have been deployed and have seen combat CAN NOT get the images out of their heads which is why when they come home MANY of them suffer from all manner of emotional issues including SEVERE Depression, Anxiety, Stress, PTSD and quite a few of them take their own lives as a result! Those who think soldiers are androids make me sick and the worst part is that MOST of them are work for the government!

This day serves as a reminder not only of those who never made it back, it ALSO serves as a reminder that we need to HONOR those who do and do everything we can to help them transition back to civilian life!

When our soldiers come home and are then EVICTED from their homes - THIS IS INEXCUSABLE!

When they have to wait for OUTRAGEOUS lengths of time JUST to be seen by a doctor - this is REPREHENSIBLE!

When they are treated with complete disregard in terms of taking their firearms away citing that a soldier returning from war can NOT be trusted with them yet the same maggots who say this also vote AGAINST there being a psych check for CIVILIANS to be able to purchase a gun of ANY caliber - THIS IS BEYOND DISHONOR!!

Our soldiers have enough stress to deal with JUST being soldiers in a combat situation they DO NOT need to come back here only to find that everything they fought for on everyone else's behalf is GONE for them!

We need to have the banks put a lock on the mortgage or rent of the home that soldier lived in so that when they come back their home is STILL THERE!

Our soldiers coming home may have their issues to deal with but this is EXACTLY the reason why we need to have VA hospitals that are UP TO CODE to take care of them no matter what the issue they are facing is! No more of this waiting game BULLSHIT - too many soldiers have DIED as a result!

We need to have psychiatrists on the ready to work with all those returning because as mentioned before most come back with severe depression, stress and suicidal tendencies and they need to have an outlet in which to work through these things!

We need to have job training for those returning to Civilian life so that they are able to refocus their attention onto something other than what may be plaguing their thoughts!

All of these things when applied mutually may not save everyone but after what our soldiers were willing to do for US, helping them find their way back HOME is the very least we can do! This Memorial Day make it a point to thank a soldier for their sacrifice, keep in mind that JUST because the body is here does NOT mean that the mind or the spirit is and they need to be reminded that we have NOT forgotten THEM or what they went through to protect US!

So while you are out there with your family and friends, make sure to set a place at the table with an empty seat to show respect to that soldier who will NEVER AGAIN partake in such an activity with THEIR family and friends because that made the ULTIMATE sacrifice so that we wouldn't have to!

Someone rear ended my car today. My insurance has been expired for a while now but I still called the insurance company and they filed a claim for me. I'm an older full-time college student and my husband works full-time at Walmart. In the past three years, I've been through 4 cancer related surgeries, which were paid for by the breast/cervical cancer Medicaid program. Unfortunately, follow up care and monitoring aren't covered and I was dropped from Medicaid. I'm now on my husband's health insurance, which is basically worthless because our income is under $20,000/yr and the policy has a $4500 deductible plus 20% after. I haven't seen my oncologist for over a year because we can't afford the expensive scans, biopsies, and lab work associated with cancer follow-up with a deductible that high. I thought my situation would change in 2014 with Obamacare. I recently learned from the healthcare.gov website calculator that our income is low enough to qualify for expanded Medicaid (which our state decided not to expand), but I don't qualify for the health insurance subsidies I desperately need because the outrageous deductible health insurance from my husband's job covers spouses. How can a couple with an income so low they would qualify for expanded Medicaid be ineligible for subsidies? I am completely devastated over this and I don't know what to do. Not being able to afford cancer follow up care is putting my life in danger. Even if my husband's employer (Walmart) quit covering the spouses of full-time employees, I think that would only apply to new hires because of the grandfather clause. If getting subsidies was based on income alone the way it should be instead of access to employer provided coverage, I would qualify for a zero deductible policy and $3 co-pays with a monthly premium of around $60. I could then afford the expensive health care I need. We live in a college town so if my husband got a different job, he'd make even less than he does now and we would probably end up homeless. If my husband transfers and we move to a state that's expanding Medicaid, I'll have to quit school and get rid of my German Shepherd and Siberian Husky since it's almost impossible to find a landlord that allows them. We thought another option might be to get a divorce on paper and co-habitate until our situation changes (completing my degree and getting a good job so I can afford the deductible), then re-marry. When I asked about that, someone actually accused me of wanting to commit fraud! How can anyone think of something like fraud when a situation is endangering someone's life? I am desperate to somehow qualify for health insurance subsidies without lying, which could get us in trouble. Any ideas?""

Im a month from being 20 and never got pulled over before and ofcourse i said yeh w.e. I smoke cigarettes and when he went to go search my car he comes out freaking out.
