#thank youuu love talking about hytham

Note
I didn't know if you wanted to do it, but for the Send Me a Character asks, how about our favorite dilf Basim, or Hytham?
answered basim here <3
hytham my beloved!
first impression
similarly to basim, i was just excited to see assassins in the game. also, with the initial conflict between eivor and hytham i thought it might be setting up a rival assassin apprentices story. and of course i thought he was cute <3
impression now
i love hytham and i wish he played a bigger role in the story.
first of all, very handsome. trust me, you are not immune to hytham's puppy dog eyes
personality wise, he's a very interesting mix of being guarded & passionate about the hidden ones while still coming across as quiet, peaceful & even-keeled most of the time. plus with a little bit of humor thrown in-- in their few conversations, he teases eivor a fair bit. from snippets of dialogue and his appearance in eivor's fight against odin, we get bits and pieces that suggest they have become very close friends. a similarly strong bond between basim and hytham is also hinted at, which i find intriguing. unfortunately, we don't get to see those relationships develop, which leads me to my next point..
as a character, i think he fell victim to being used as a plot device. his hostility towards eivor in the beginning feels like a red herring in retrospect, meant to direct suspicion towards him instead of basim. he's injured while fighting kjotve so eivor can jump in and have an ~odin moment~ then the injury from that fight very conveniently means that he stays in one building with the same 3 lines of dialogue for most of the game. he seemingly only exists to teach eivor the leap of faith and provide information about the order of ancients. which makes it disconcerting when he is the FIRST person to help eivor up in her fight against odin. where did that bond come from? why didn't we see that development? when eivor informs hytham about basim's betrayal, we get a couple lines indicating hytham being genuinely heartbroken andddd that's it. the only new info we get about hytham after that is a letter in the hidden ones' bureau saying he's been promoted to master assassin.
really ubi? that's it? a hot young master assassin who's deeply grieving his beloved mentor being killed by his closest friend and THAT'S IT? i wanna more of hytham's story to be told. i hope we get more in the dlcs but i don't hold out much hope after that treatment in the main game
favorite moment
i love the interactions between eivor and hytham when he teaches her the leap of faith. we learn a lot about him from that brief quest: his lingering pain, his utter devotion to the creed and basim, his humor once he feels comfortable around someone, even a bit of his perspective on life. plus i love when he does that little wink before leaping off the cliff to eivor's dismay. cheeky bastard
idea for a story
definitely a slow burn relationship with eivor, either showing how he comes to trust her after their initial conflict or them bonding as they cope with basim's betrayal
unpopular opinion
i suppose just having this much interest in hytham is relatively unpopular lol. other than that? i suppose i see the blushing virgin stereotype thrown around a lot with him. while that's cute and all, i think hytham fucks. also, and this is probably the most Controversial, while i love seeing the platonic bond between basim and hytham explored, i feel there's a possibility that they've hooked up once or twice
favorite relationship
in game, eivor. i already talked about their interactions and the bond they seem to have. tbh hytham isn't shown to have many interactions with other characters
romantically, eivor. based on the easy chemistry they have during the leap of faith quest and the bond that's hinted at, i think there's a possibility for romance. especially when both of them are coping with basim's betrayal and death. i also think it would be cute if their relationship led to eivor joining the hidden ones. hytham could've easily been a romance option and i curse ubisoft for that every day
platonically, basim. hytham and basim seem to come into conflict on their interpretation of the creed. at the same time, hytham is very devoted to basim and clearly looks up to him. even being willing to struggle through the lingering pain of his injury to please basim. eivor asks basim if he sees hytham as family and basim blatantly dodges the question. hytham is devastated when eivor gives him the news about basim. i just wanna see more of their story!
favorite headcanon
the romance with eivor and eivor joining him as a hidden one is up there. i also like the idea of master assassin hytham coming into his own and helping with the siege of paris (pls ubi give us dilf hytham pls pls pls)
send me a character!
