yasemin is cupid, daughter of aphrodite, the goddess of love. she marries a human boy by the name of scott (psyche) but he's forbidden from ever looking upon her face. for a time, the two live happily together but eventually scott can't take it anymore and looks at yasemin's face in the night while she's asleep. having broken the rules, he must do tasks to earn back his place at her side.

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : excluding ocs from your interactions. to this day i don't understand where this preference comes from. some canon characters used to be original as well? until they become part of the canon.

MUSE PREFERENCES : oh they must have a speck of horror or mystery about them. i'm usually not drawn to the overly sweet ones (without any bitterness to them)? it's not that i actively dismiss them, i just have a hard(er) time portraying them/thinking like them?

Turkish Holocaust Hero – Necdet Kent

He saved dozens of Jews at great risk to himself.

Necdet Kent was a Turkish diplomat who saved dozens of Jews during the Holocaust, at great risk to himself.

Born in Istanbul in 1911, Necdet was educated in the United States and attended law school at NYU. He returned to Turkey and entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1937. He was appointed vice consul to Greece, and then transferred to German-occupied France in 1941.

In 1943, Necdet heard that the Germans had loaded 80 Turkish Jews living in Marseilles onto a cattle car for transportation to a concentration camp. Necdet hurried to the Gestapo commander and demanded that the Jews be freed, since they were Turkish citizens and Turkey was neutral. The officer refused, saying the people didn’t count as citizens of any place because they were just Jews.

Desperate, Necdet and his assistant boarded the train themselves. The Gestapo officer told them to get off, but Necdet adamantly refused, saying “As the representative of a government that rejects such treatment for religious beliefs, I cannot consider leaving them here.”

Finally, not knowing what else to do, the Gestapo let everybody off the train. “I would never forget,” Necdet later said, “those embraces around our necks and hands … the expressions of gratitude in the eyes of the people we rescued … the inner peace I felt when I reached my bed towards morning.”

Necdet reached out to the community of Turkish Jews in France and supplied them with false Turkish identity documents, allowing them to escape the Nazi death camps.

Necdet heard that the Gestapo were stripping men and boys on the street to see if they were circumcised and therefore Jewish. Necdet informed the German officers that circumcision didn’t necessarily mean somebody was Jewish; he was Muslim and circumcised and offered to take his clothes off to prove it.

After the war, Necdet continued his career in the Turkish foreign service. He served as ambassador to the US, Thailand, India, Sweden and Poland. In 2001, shortly before he died, Necdet was honored by Israeli Holocaust Museum Yad Vashem as “Rightous Among the Nations.”

For sticking his neck out – and more! – to save Turkish Jews in France, we honor Necdet Kent as this week’s Thursday Hero at Accidental Talmudist.

there were two people in providence peak that she knew she could trust whole heartedly. medical school wasn't for the weak and these two girls went through it with her. mei and yas held a special place in her heart and she was thankful to have them to lean on when she needed somewhere to go almost a year ago. cleo was normally the type not to put herself in a situation that may draw attention but after buying her raffle tickets, she started to tug yasemin toward the dancefloor. "come on, it'll be like old times. you know, when we used to celebrate passing one of those tests in school that we swore melted all of our brains." she knew her friend needed a distraction due to more recent events and she was more than willing to give that to her.

~Mahidevran Gülbahar~

She was born around 1500, her origin is unknown but most historian claim that she was albanian, montenegrian or even circassian. Her name

Mahidevran means the one who is always beautiful and the name Gülbahar which is perhaps her converted name means rose of springs. Mahidevran was listed among 17 women in prince Süleyman's harem in Manisa. In an register she appears as gözde (favorite) together with three other women named Yasemin, Hubeh, Server. Those three recived a salary 5 aspers a day and Mahidevran recived 4 aspers a day.

The reason is unknown but maybe she was the new one at the time. In 1515 Mahidevran gave birth to her only child Mustafa. In 1521, when Süleyman ascended the throne, Mahidevran along with other concubines moved from Manisa to Istanbul. Mustafa was third child and second son of Süleyman. In autum 1521

Süelyman's three childern, eldest son Mahmud, daughter Raziye and baby Murad died because of plague. Mustafa and Mehmed (son of Hürrem) survived. Thus, Mahidevran was the mother of the eldest living son and "first" consort. Till the moment when Sultan Suleyman broke the one mother-one son policy and called back Hürrem, the mother of prince Mehmed. No doubt that concubines and their childern were rivals with other concubines and kids but Mahidevran's and Hürrem's relationship worsened.

Suddendly, Mahidevran was again outranked, but this time by woman who was below her. It was never the affection that Süleyman showed towards Hürrem it was the ranking. But Mahidevran and Hürrem had to tolerate eachother thanks to Valide Ayse Sultan who had cordial relationship with both of them. In 1533

Mustafa was appointed to Manisa and as the tradition says, his mother moved with him. Later, in 1542 when Mustafa was appointed to Amasya, Mahidevran moved once again. In 1553 Sultan Süleyman I executed his and Mahidevran's son Mustafa. Mahidevran moved to Bursa and thus she was the last concubine to retire in Bursa.Sultan Süleyman made Mahidevran responsible for all Mustafa's mistakes and took all her wealth and salary away. Mahidevran lived in poverty for many years till the moment when prince Selim in 1560s started to send her money. With that money she could pay finishing Mustafa's Türbe. Selim II payed her debts and bought her a house with garden. Mahidevran died on 3th February 1581 in Bursa.
