#text#‘the unknown’ being represented as a place between life and death or possibly a version of the afterlife#the beast preying on children specifically#the recurring theme of trapping people in death and/or labor by trickery and/or impossible tasks/bargains#the fact that the beast is an in-universe folk monster such that people warn each other about him lest he deceive them#tithing human beings to the beast (and adelaide)#the VERY strong presence of debts/payments as a driving factor#the beast’s ownership of the trees and the woodsman’s unwitting desecration of them#like yeah ok you could also say the beast is just the devil. but some people said fairies were devils too. so.#the folklore elements and all of the above gel pretty well with documented fairy lore specifically. imo#I say as an extremely amateur hobbyist fae enjoyer
