I have never vibe with an MLB critic essay so hard as yours do. People put salt on a lot of different things of MLB, but you hit every point of that really hits home of why the show is a dissapointment for me; from the Love Square wasted potential, the expectation of a Magical Girl show that wasn't delivered, the messy incoherent themes that is not represented well in their powers or villains, the umbalance power dynamics complete with comparison.

Too bad you drop it though (reasonably), I really wish to read what you think of Sentimonster!Adrien or even the Finale.

Something interesting happens when I completely give up on a show. And that's that...I really stop expecting anything from it.

When the Sentimonster thing came out, I genuinely just sighed. I couldn't even form an opinion because all I could feel is "this is such wasted potential".

The idea of a child being created via an object - and having said object tied to them, is such a good one. And it raises so many interesting and profound ideas. It could speak about how parents see their kids as nothing but dolls. It could be a very cool concept of Adrien someone who has the power to DESTROY, not only having a gentle soul but having to protect this object.

All things get presented to us for a reason - even if that reason is purely aesthetics.

Why are the girls in Tokyo Mew Mew animals? Because the creator thought catgirls were cool.

Why do we have witches in madoka? Because witches are the evolved form a "girl with magic" aka a "magical girl". And that's a cool thought.

Why is the Princess Tutu inspired by the swan lake ballet and why does it chose "defying destiny" as it premise? Because in real life, the swan lake ballet has multiple endings, some tragic, some happy. The tragedy aspect of it, enhances the princess tutu aesthetic.

Why was Adrien introduced to us as a Sentimonster?

And that's the thing. I can't even wrap my head around why would you make that creative choice.

It's an interesting idea, but one that feels more rooted on someone seeing a headcanon of it online and trying to pander to the audience with it. A sort of torture porn (which in a vacuum isn't something I'm opposed to), just to hammer home how shitty Adrien's life is. How abusive his dad is. Which, btw, doesn't even make sense when you think abt how he got redeemed in the recent episodes.

My point is, I can't have an opinion on "Adrien being a sentimonster" because I can't see why. Why they did it. And my lack of interest in the series, makes it so that I don't wanna spend pondering the "why".

What's the point? What themes did it introduce? Does it tie to the miraculous stuff somehow? Does it coherently expand upon the known lore?

Like, Katherine from Genshin Impact - it recently got revealed she's a doll controlled by the Fatui. This serves the purpose of allowing Nahida, an extremely kind archon, to have a vessel she can control. It shows insight of Marionette's powers, and how likely the adventurer's guild is to be related to the Fatui or Snezhnayan politics, as well as have an in-game reason as to why there's a Katherine in each region.

While it's also an out of left field bonkers thing getting revealed, it MAKES SENSE. There's a reason why she was made this way.

But with Adrien, there isn't. It's just /there/. Not really related to anything, no foreshadow, or anything. This is all, obviously, tied to the terrible writing of the show. But this is just insane. I do not understand it. I seriously can't.

Lantern Rite 2023

The first two days were boring as sin. Nothing else to say about them. YaoYao got introduced and vanished, it’s a regular NPC storyline used in place of a playable character, it’s an excuse for another loredump and cares far more about the lore than the characters included, and I don’t care how often I need to say it - there is no point playing “who’s that Adeptus?!” in Liyue when Zhongli would happily answer every possible question anyone could ever have about that subject, and literally any other.

If you want to do mysteries like this, pick any other region, god. Also, please make a better mystery than “Madame Ping played a song this one time. It was a really bitchin’ song. Also a guy almost drowned. GUIZHONG EXISTED!”

Cloud Retainer is sexy now though. That’s cool, I guess. We needed that. Also, I love that every time Shenhe shows up lately she doesn’t know some extremely basic thing. Last time it was flavoured drinks, and this time it’s THE CONCEPT OF MUSIC, despite music being such a huge thing in her quest??? This woman has goldfish brain, I swear.

The epilogue was a little better - no lore dragging us down - and I was surprised (pleased) to see HYV actually picking up on the thread from the Chasm about Xiao needing to socialise more, and seeing him attempting (and struggling) to do so. Xiao is very cute. Nothing else to say. He raises my serotonin levels. I Like Him.

Although, speaking of Xiao, and I’m just throwing this out there - I think this event would’ve been better served if maybe instead of some rando from Fontaine trying to find the magical music playing person from another country that saved an ancestor’s life with breathtakingly beautiful music, we could’ve maybe leveraged the two characters in this event that already have that backstory, and were IN THIS EVENT, BUT WHATEVER. WHAT DO I KNOW-

Anyway, this event was clearly trying to be funny, and while seeing Xiao “?!” “um” “uhhh”ing was cute, the humour is definitely muted by the VA’s restrained performances, and the lack of facial expressions/restricted movements on the 3D models mean any scene always seems a bit slow and underwhelming and can really impact a joke’s delivery. More to the point, HYV really cares far too much about Zhongli’s dignity to be able to capitalise on a skit where both Hu Tao and Venti put a fair amount of effort into mocking him. His straight man routine is sorely lacking.

At the end of the day, it’s 40 minutes of people sitting around a dinner table and a decent chunk of it is “oh I met [x] at [y]!” As always, Genshin needs a script editor to trim the fat.

In terms of character dynamic:

Xiao and Aether’s slowburn romance friendship continues to be adorable, even if the foundation for its intensity is extremely shaky. Despite the fact that the PV wasn’t integrated into this year’s Lantern Rite at all, it did earn some points in my heart.

Chongyun, Xingqiu and Xiangling’s inclusions were mostly to justify the identity shenanigans involving Venti and Zhongli, but they were a bit lost in the scene despite this. The scene always seemed to forget they were there, which is a shame, because Chongyun has very specific beef with Xiao (per his mats) and Xiangling’s cooking should really be leveraged for comedy faaaar more often than it is.

Xiao and Zhongli is about what I would’ve expected it to be. Solid dynamic, no notes.

Hu Tao and Venti get on like a house on fire, which should really cause Zhongli more dread than it does. I did enjoy them burning each other, but again - HYV’s comedy is always a bit slow. Would’ve been great to see Zhongli lose his cool a bit.

It’s a bit sad that my relationship HCs about Xiao and Hu Tao, or Xiao and Venti, weren’t really challenged or confirmed in any real way. Due to Xiao’s dialogue about them in his mats, I’d assumed he’d already met Hu Tao and only knew of Venti, but I see that’s the other way around. Xiao clearly respects Venti a lot (the differing reactions between when you blame either Zhongli or Venti for Xiao’s awkwardness at dinner, plus Xiao’s reverence of Venti’s music, show that), but I don’t really get the sense that the two are “old friends”. If anything, Xiao having Venti as an “old friend” seems kind of odd given what we know of his backstory.

Anyway, I still think Mondstadt wins at festivals overall. Windblume soon!!! Looking forward to that!

I don’t know a ton of lore from the game but I love the concepts and world building for genshin and I think it would be really cool to give the ninja designs if they were in game! I want to do it so bad!! But finding the time Hdjfjdjf

Kai is obviously Pryo, Jay electro, Cole geo, Zane cyro, Nya hydro, and Lloyd…. Well I’m actually not too sure. His original powers are like pure energy. I could give him dendro cause there aren’t many dendro characters and cause green lol. That or Anemo. I don’t know…. I’ll have to think on that.

Weapons wise I’d probably give Kai swords cause that’s usually the weapon he’s seen with. It could be fun to give Jay either a pole arm or catalyst. Cole definitely would be claymore. Zane I’d give a bow or pole arm for my second choice cause of season of 11. You know what I mean if you’ve watched the season hehe. For Nya…. my first choice would be catalyst. Maybe sword for my second to match Kai. But I think it would be dope if she had a giant ass claymore too lol. Lloyd is definitely a catalyst for me. But I could see him with a sword or pole arm.

I haven’t exactly thought about which regions they’d all come from seeing as there are only three available to play right now. But I think it would be funny if they all happened to become knights in Mondstat and they go around causing all sorts of chaos with their shenanigans lol.

Anyways, thanks for listening to me ramble! Maybe I’ll get around to design what they’d look like one day but for now I’m content with this word vomit lol. I’m sure I’m not the first to think of this either but have fun with this too! Id love to hear any thoughts you may have!

AND also the fact that there are two electro twins and two different electro slime twins such a cool touch and also we can’t forget the similarities from the other archons respective slimes like that’s so creative?? I also love how they tied everything together like how rukkhadevata left the last remaining consciousness of the lord of Amrita in sumeru in a hydro tree that cleans sins and breaking the law counts as a sin and the hydro nation arrests anyone who breaks the law and Amrita was the old archon and like Mondstadt??? also I love how all the allogenes (vision holders) have something in common like how all the anemo vision users have lost someone and the geo users always have a goal to improve themselves and the pyro have a passion and electro have something to protect and etc. etc like oml so well written I swear also like I love how they involve the abyss or fatui in everything like saying how the abyss are the hilichurls and monsters and the fatui are pulling the strings in the background like how they manipulated raiden to start the vision hunt decree I love that also how they have ulterior motives and yk how the gnoses are shaped as chess pieces and in winter nights lazzo they added a chessboard with the chess pieces being replaced by gnosis like woahhhh that’s an amazing concept also LIYUE?? I love how zhongli faked his death so he could live a normal life and how all the archons/gods have flaws like they even made the gods imperfect oml??

What's your fav nation based off aesthetic or lore :0 mine's Fontaine >:)

Oooh, probably Fontaine for aesthetics, an aquatic region with steampunk incorporated into it sounds so cool. Maybe a lot of canals and waterfalls and a giant courthouse where we’ll meet the Hydro Archon? Though that probably sounds more like Venice when I think about it…I guess whatever the Genshin equivalent of FFXV’s Altissia haha. Plus the concept of a God’s ideal of justice being corrupt is classic, I’m super looking forward to Fontaine, even though that’s gonna be a while.

For Lore, honestly I really think maybe Inazuma for now. There’s so much world building in the world quests, and while even though some were tedious, I still found them fun. The only downside I think is that some parts end up overwhelming u with so much info at once that u kinda have to just nod and move on and reread later. Also I like Liyue’s lore about the gods and adepti, it’s so fun and Rex Incognito is such a good read.
