And dumb: she didn't notice how Kurt and Vasco are glaring at each other behind her back, both of them fighting for a place in her heart. Crossing the line

"She stepped right in front of him and gently cupped his face, silencing him. There was a tension in her heart, something daring that made her act by instinct; in the dim starlight, Jeanne studied the face she knew so well. She ran her fingers over each scar delicately, finding them one by one without fail,  despite the darkness. She found them all; the one on his nose, on the eyebrow, the cheek, chin, right down to the corner of his lip. Kurt's skin was warm under her fingertips, and his short stubble stung in the loveliest way. The scars were small, rough, bumpy valleys - except the one on the lip, which felt smooth and barely raised. Jeanne's fingers stopped on the latter, and she felt her own lips tingle. She hesitated. 

Kurt's eyes were bright on his dimly-lit face, wary and bewildered like those of a deer in the woods immobilized by a sudden shot. He remained motionless for a few seconds (...)"

Jeanne De Sardet and Kurt, atop the city-wall of New Sérène - GreedFall.

Kurt's eyes were bright on his dimly-lit face, wary and bewildered like those of a deer in the woods immobilized by a sudden shot. He remained motionless for a few seconds too long, and Jeanne realized with a sinking heart that she had just crossed a line; an invisible boundary beyond which neither of them had ever dared to go in all the years they spent together. She understood now that Kurt didn't know what to do. Jeanne thought she knew what she wanted, but couldn't feel, couldn’t know for certain.

  Maybe I'm just troubling him? Perhaps he thinks I'm just a spoiled noblewoman playing with her guard? That it doesn’t mean anything?

After a long, stilted moment, Jeanne let him go and turned towards the staircase. "It's getting late, perhaps we should return before the cutthroats come out in earnest."

Kurt stood up, coughed, straightened his sword belt, and followed her without a word.

“Jeanne De Sardet’s Secret Diaries” My OC Jeanne is writing on her diary about her adventures, her thoughts, her emotions. Next to her, Captain Kurt of the Coin Guard, her Master-at-arms and love, is sleeping peacefully. The room is dark aside from the moonlight entering from the window and the little magical light Jeanne summoned to write. The little spark’s light caresses the crumpled linen sheets and the scarred skin of Kurt’s back.

OOK, this was totally self indulgent, and why not. “The Diaries of Jeanne De Sardet” is the fanfic I published on AO3, you can read the English version here (translation of the italian one, that is 100% completed.)
