A little tune I play when I need a little boost, I don't know much outside of orchestral instruments so can't put much musical information but it sounds cool.
A live EP presented more like a studio recording and at 30 minutes long enough to be legitimately labeled an LP, IV finds the Fearless Flyers laying down six new tracks in front of an NYC Blue Note audience.
Opening with “Blue Angels” - an unabashed mash of George Benson’s “Gimme the Night” and Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” - Volfpeck’s Joe Dart (bass), Nate Smith (drums) and Cory Wong (guitar) and Snarky Puppy’s Mark Lettieri (guitar) continue their smooth-jazz-cum-disco ways on “Red Arrows” before slowing down and burrowing into the deep, relaxed funk of “Patrouille de France.”
This is the Flyers at their best, taking their time and allowing crowd noise to bleed into the recording for first time. It also leads to the first break after segues linking the instrumental material.
The remainder of the short LP/long EP finds the quartet toggling between the loping grooves of “Freece Tricolori” and “Thunderbirds” and the hyperkinetic dance-floor throbbing of “Snowbirds.”
Sound Bites prefers the former style, but the interconnectivity between Wong and Lettieri - whether playing counterparts or in harmony - over Dart and Smith’s rich, rhythmic tapestry is undeniable throughout.
I was tagged by @sometimes-i-talk-a-lot to share five songs I actually listen to publicly, then tag ten people 💖
I'm also assuming this means songs I don't mind others knowing I listen to instead of music i blast out in public, but I don't think I ever mind sharing the songs I like if someone asks : D
So, I guess I'll go with one from each band I've listened to lately!
1. Walkies by Vulfpeck
2. Under Ice by Kate Bush
3. Medium Rare by Pulled Apart By Horses
4. Valley Of The Dolls by Marina
5. Motomami by Rosalía
Tagging @heavenknowsffs @escaping-0blivion @coastal-yearning @just-a-galactic-traveler @chaotic-gay-v and anyone else that wants to do this too is more than welcome to! : D
