obsessed with your art! would you ever do a brushes reveal :3
A) THANK YOU.. 💚 B) totally 😎 I use Clip Studio Paint, and to preface this I have the OLD(ish) version of CSP from when it was purchasable with one payment instead of monthly like it is now - I don't have to pay for it monthly so long as I don't update it or use any brushes downloaded from other artists/wherever, so idk if my brushes would be different from someone else's or if they're the same... BUT
Dry India Ink I usually use for my lineart, lettering and sometimes coloring
Tumblr media
Watery India Ink I use for shading, thumbnails, rough/under layer outlines, and occasionally lineart. usually I like digital brushes because they are dissimilar from traditional art tools (read: can do shit they cant) but this is the one overlap where... I actually love India ink washes for traditional art too lol. my best friend...
Tumblr media
Oil Paint I use for almost all of my coloring/rendering to like the point where I need to branch out more... also occasionally thumbnails
Tumblr media
Honorable Mentions are the Textured Blender and the Kneaded Eraser
Tumblr media
this is probably an annoying amount of detail but like whatever. now you too know what brushes this amateur nebulously employed hobbyist illustrator uses. and with the power of love you can do anything with them

Hello Mieau, would you mind to give a tour of the art materials you use? xo
Yeah, sure! Let me see, here is what I mostly use: For digital art I love to draw with Clip Studio Paint, paired with Photoshop for touch-ups and preparing files for printing. My tablet is a Wacom Intuos Pro medium. I also have an Ipad pro with a CSP subscription, that I use sometimes.
For traditional art recently I'm mostly just sketching but my favorite brand of sketchbook is definitely Maruman! The pages are very thin so it's a good reminder that a sketchbook has to be used in a lighter way, it can't be perfect. I have different sizes!
Tumblr media
Pencil-wise I like to use Kurutoga (it's a brand of mechanical pencils that automatically rotates the nib, so you go trough them more efficiently). Basic kneaded eraser. And for book signings I use Faber Castell Polychromos (they are very hummm... "soft"?) for a nice colored under-sketch paired with some fine nib permanent black marquer!

time for CSP secrets! mechanical comes with the program, soft and cream are brushes i had for years and love to bits (ion know why tumblr adds the href.li part in my links, but delete it from the urls)
really they are interchangeable in the sketching and rendering phases (i use the default pastel, gouache and oil paint brushes too but they're special, for bigger paintings or to make textures). i also use the default kneaded eraser to make nicer traces
i set my lineart to overlay and then play around with the lineart color, so keeping layers organized is important
Tumblr media
thanks for the ask! one last tip: getting used to drawing in a grey canvas helps a ton with coloring (not to mention easier on the eyes!)
bonus! this is my favorite font

other than that, lately ive been into using a version of CSP's default "kneaded eraser" but with its blending mode set to "normal," which turns it into a brush you can draw with. i also like CSP's "mechanical pencil" brush. (images using bristles, kneaded, and then elements of the mechanical pencil pictured above)
i have some other slightly less-used brushes that ive made or tweaked in a google drive folder and id be happy to give you a link to it if you shoot me a dm about it. all of these are Clip Studio Paint brushes, though!

Working on some personal art for a change! It isn't very obvious here, but I'm finding a new appreciation for the kneaded eraser on csp

Clip Studio Paint tip: You can make a quick and easy chunky textured brush from the kneaded eraser preset that comes with CSP! I like to use this brush for initial sketches and gesture drawings. 1 - Make a duplicate of the Kneaded Eraser sun tool 2 - Click the wrench to open the sub tool properties 3 - Go to the Ink section and change the blending mode from erase to normal And done! Don’t forget to “save all settings as default” to save the new brush. I’d also recommend moving it over to the pencils group, but that’s personal preference. • • • #clipstudiopaint #clipstudio #brush #makebrushes #clipstudiobrushes #digitalart #digitalbrush #digitaldrawing #digitalartist #texture #texturedpainting #texturedbrushes #art #artlife #artmaking #arttools #makingart #wip #howto https://www.instagram.com/p/CF5XWbLDP1q/?igshid=1uzrgb4fy1nvq
