The Magicians 5x13
So that was that.
Well, let's just say the should have stopped with Season 4 (and not killing of Quentin of course).
Season 5 was mostly bad ( great time loop episode not withstanding)and the Finale was just not very good either. I also find it insulting that they doubled down in the Season 4 Finale "You are in control of your inner workings"-Shit, but I guess that was to be expected.
I mean, yes I am not in the right head space for this season, but given how unfocused and messy it was, I don't think it would have sat better with me under different circumstances as well.
It's really a shame that pretty much almost all the shows that were made for me in the last decade (and those were few enough) just went to shit at some point before the end or got cancelled and ended in a way that was shit because of that.
In since the era of TV that was made for me and my mutals is over, I won't ever get anything to just love and enjoy again, but at least there is no more hearbreak ahead, when it goes to shit, which is something I guess.

If Doctor Who series 9 has a million fans, I am one of them.
If Doctor who series 9 has ten fans, I am one of them.
If Doctor who series 9 has one fan, that fan is me.
If Doctor who series 9 has no fans, I am no longer on earth.
If the world is against Doctor who series 9, I am against the world.

My least favorite part about posting incorrect magicians quotes and stuff magicians related is reading half the reblogs that are like “I should rlly start watching it again I never got past season 2 :)” with the most amount of horror knowing nothing I can say will prevent the terrors of season 4

It's really blow my mind that there are people delusional enough to truly belive that killing Quentin Coldwater was a) a good ending for character b) good for plot c) wasn't suicide and that the fifth season of The Magicians was good.
Like, I'm sorry but you're delusional. I get it you love this show, but sometimes showrunners do dumb thing and you have to acknowledge it.
Killing you main mentally ill queer character in suicidal manner with massage "this is his happy ending, killing himself was best thing he did", when his whole plot was about fighting his mental illness and trying to find place in this world is dumb and borderline disrespectful.
And then in last season you leave your other main mentally ill queer character completely alone, but gave him shitty-side-character-with-three-minutes-of-screen-time as some kind of out of blue consolation prize love interest. While you spend whole final season not allow him to grief his lost, basically not allowing him to have same feelings as straight ex of his dead love interest.
And don't get me even started with complite dumpster fire of rest of the characters.
Don't try to convince me this is good ending for this story, don't try to tell this is what this characters or fans deserve.

Honestly I don't get how people can hate new content. I'm always just like: "Look at my blorbos!" And I'm happy.
I'm a very uncritical and positive person but still.

The Magicians 4x13
So, I finally saw that one and ... the only positive thing I can say about it is that the rendition of "Take on Me" was really beautiful, if misplaced, but ....
... I put watching Season 4 of for years after German television just stopped airing "The Magicians" after Season 3 (and stopped with the Home Release after Season 2) and after getting spoiled for the end of Season 4, which I was really in no hurry to see if I had to put actual work in. So after being able to watch the first three episodes without work it took me until 2023 to watch the rest of the season, and while catching up I got the general gist from the fandom and was not motivated to watch that season finale, but ...
... I was not prepared. Even if you put aside anything else, this episode was a mess and not in a good way! The whole season seemed to be building toward something but not toward this! And knowing what went down around the show the last few weeks before the finale aired does make everything even worse!
And if the "quality" of this episode is any indication for Season 5, I can understand why more or less the whole fandom fled the show during it's last season.
And, yes, I am sorry, but saying "it was not suicide because your friends loved you and you love them and would never willingly leave them" does not change the fact that it was suicide and that this episode and the whole show with it does now endorse suicide, even though the intention behind the books and the first three and a half season of this show was the opposite!
There is nothing wrong with writing a character out of show (even though people still haven't learned that it's never a good idea to do this with the main character), there is nothing wrong with killing a character of in a show and there is even nothing wrong with writing a scene in which a character sacrifices themself for others and/or the greater good, but there is definitly a wrong way to do all of those things and this show did on the top of all of this also manage to send the wrong message with all of it by - again!- endorsing suicide to an audience who is struggeling with Mental Healt Issues none the less!!
I am not sure those people should ever be hired to write a new show by anyone ever again after this crap (I have no idea, if they did since "The Magicians" ended, but given how crazy life has been since then it is totally possible).
The real bitter thing is that this was one of the few shows that was very much made for me personally (have you any idea how few there are?) and I really loved it. But now I am not sure I have it even in me to watch Season 5 anymore, because I am so digusted with the people behind the scenes. Which is probably a shame, because I was told the show did not really change at least in the first half of the final season, so it could be a blast (and finally Elliot would be on screen again), but maybe it's just crap in the end and I am better off never subjecting myself to it, who knows?
It's not like someone will tell me if watching Season 5 is worth the time I would put in it, because no one is talking about the show anymore, so yeah, it's one of those decicions, I never wanted to have to make.

still screaming over the fact that the magicians thought it was okay to kill off quentin to make him a hero just because ‘oh, the white male main character can’t always be safe,’ okay yes that’s true but you’ve totally forgotten all of the context you’ve woven into q’s characterisation, because the concept of him dying is something he’s struggled with his whole life, that he spends his whole life wanting not to be alive anymore and then even when he has magic it doesn’t change that, and then even worse he thinks the only worthy sacrifice he can make is to give his life to be a hero, like he doesn’t have anything else to give,,, NO, actually, the whole thing that you’ve spent four seasons learning is that q can love and be loved, you can’t just destroy that to make some surface level message.
and they make q say it himself, ‘did i make a sacrifice to save my friends or did i finally find a way to kill myself,’ because he could have chosen differently! that wasn’t the only option! if alice and penny had time to run, to travel out of there, then SO DID Q, but he chooses to hesitate, and it’s the culmination of all the months of shit he’s been through with the monster, and the exhaustion of it, and i GET it, i do, but if he’s killing himself they don’t get to write it off like it’s a noble and unavoidable sacrifice, and also he shouldn’t HAVE TO kill himself to make the point anyway!!! it would have been far, far more radical a statement to say - look. look at this. here is someone who is depressed but lives anyway, and lives anyway, in spite of all the shit life has thrown at them, because they’re worth that, they’re worth the effort it takes to keep them alive, and they deserve better
god i’m so furious that they couldn’t give us that, they couldn’t give us a depressed character who lives a good, fulfilling life. like okay sure they gave us the mosaic but the subtext there is always that it’s outside of reality, it’s not a world in which they study or work or live like we all live on earth. like. is that too much to ask for, that you could show us that even though q is sad he is still loved and that is ENOUGH, that’s worth him staying alive for, that depression doesn’t have to take everything from someone, that there is another choice, because THAT’S what we wanted to see

and dont get me STARTED on the continued use of the one queer character as the token trauma victim because the magicians did eliot so fucking dirty in so many god damned ways and the way his story ended is beyond wrong

Ok, I’m just going to put this out there as a prompt because it’s been in my head for literal years and I will probably never write it myself.
The witch from the season 2 cold open is Quentin’s granddaughter from the mosaic timeline. She has two vials of his blood. She can bring him back after the end of season 4. With the help of Eliot and everyone else, of course.

canon things i’d forgotten about the magicians that i noticed on this rewatch (SPOILER FREE)
1. julia’s implied to be richer than quentin, and her father was an alcoholic
2. quentin has anxiety about literally everything EXCEPT his bisexuality. king shit really
3. margo?? has a bi pride flag pillow?? in her bedroom?
4. the haxenpaxen and the whole spoon goblin mini storyline
5. margo’s robbed two banks and she’s not even 30
6. this show really has like 3 sets and 10 actors that they just reuse huh
7. alice really isn’t the bitch that the fandom paints her out to be. like i know people love to contrast her to the “whiny” (read: traumatised and acting in her own best interest) julia, the “sultry but damaged” kady (read: wasted potential but she’s hot so i forgive her) and the “bossy” (read: YES, AND IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY) margo, but alice is a really great character and olivia taylor dudley does a PHENOMENAL job, esp in seasons 2 and 3
8. damn how does felicia day play the exact same character no matter what role she’s in
9. is it just me or did julia’s style pretty drastically change in seasons 3/4 and then revert more to her s1 style in s5? like i love the costuming on this show but i feel like this was supposed to symbolise something and i missed it
10. *mayakovsky voice* why don’t you just fuck?

in case it needs to be said, eliot does not end up as a teacher at brakebills. he'd rather gnaw his own ankle off than be a teacher at fucking BRAKEBILLS. he returns to fillory with margo, instead.
