I feel like both the book and the show wants me to dislike/despise John’s girlfriend Ashley but I honestly think she’s one of the least unhealthy character and one of the few I could imagine having a somehow healthy life later so....

#not offense but i honestly do find john's family weird and unpleasant even knowing that they're very much innocent victims in the story #like i'm sorry for not hating the extroverted and superfical teen girl who don't know how to handle a very hardcore tragedy in a mature way #but idk i just feel like a lot of her very innocent actions are treating at those manipulative bitch moments and it's just like...#treated*#gillian i know you're talking about themes of women violence and all of that but not everything a 17yo girl do is inherently evil #like i'll take the overbearing girlfriend who try to bring me food before i take the kid who litterally stab her classmates tbh #btw i am still weirded out by how the book lowkey treated this as this semi-normal not like other girls moment #like this child inflicted a permanent disability on another child and the parents just moved her around to a new school #and it's never really adressed in the text just treated as part of her wild tomboy personality #like there's being a free spirit and there's being a danger to all the other grade schoolers #but i'm getting off topic #the possum watches sharp objets

I think my favorite part of Sharp Objects (both the book and the tv show) is how the cops completely dismiss James Capisi’s eyewitness account as the cry for help of a severely neglected little boy....And then do absolutely nothing to help him, truly a chief kiss moment

#like you know this kid barely go to school and his barely taken care of by his mom who is both dying and an addict #and you're just gonna wait for him to be old enough that he can't be help anymore and start doing petty criminality or some shit? cool #not sure why the show made her a meth addict tbh #like growing up dirt poor in an elitist ass town and watching your mom die of cancer at like 9 is already traumatic af imo #but eh doesn't change the point #i hate both of the cops from sharp objects so much it's unreal #the possum watches sharp objets

Ok tv show, I understand that you making the old police chief says that is supposed to make it clear that it’s not something we should agree with but like...that’s litterally what you canonically portrayed Ashley to be so based on your own story we should actually take this comment as face value like what the fuck are you even trying to accomplish here lmao

#i very much enjoy this show but there's elements that are getting on my nerves ngl #i feel like they realised that they original book had 'problematic elements' and tried to fix it #but just ended up creating elements that are problematics in a different way #like i have a lot to say about their attempt to talk about racism but I'm gonna wait to actually be done with this show before #anyway this really made me roll my eyes like come the fuck on...if you're gonna base one of your character one sexism stereotypes..#at least own at this point #the possum watches sharp objets

It’s kinda hilarious to have a character listening to an explaination of what munchausen by proxy is like he never heard about it before like son, do you not watch tv ? This shit was the hot thing in every single show made under the sun for a while, don’t tell me you never heard about it

#even in 2006 when the book came out it was still very much in...#and then #they made this show in 2018 and the trope was *definitely* overused at this point so it's genuinely funny to me #i mean richard apparently don't really know about self harm either so i guess he just do cop things all day and only stop to fuck or sleep #or rip teeth off a dead pig's head i guess #the possum watches sharp objets
