percy ends up in the principals office, as he does, and he thinks hes gonna be expelled again
until the principal says who he calls. most of the time its sally, if she cant be reached its paul (who usually just talks on the phone since he cant leave his job). this time. this time is different
because when sally is called, the principal says ‘i called your mother’, when paul is called, ‘i called your step-father’
the principal said neither of those things
‘i called your father. he will be here shortly.’
father. not step-father, just. father.
‘do you, do you mean my step-dad, paul-?’
‘no. you’re biological father. the one named after the greek god.’
percy had been in two wars. his father, clearly pissed off barging into the principals room 7 minutes later was something more traumatizing and horrific than both wars combined.
luckily, poseidon was mad at the principal. and made him cry. within 4 minutes. and managed to get percy only suspended for two weeks.
(poseidon did bring him on a shopping spree so it wasnt that bad (he got stuff for his mom and a few campers too ofc))
as they were leaving, it was clear that people were watching. several had their phones out recording. percy figured they were recording poseidon.
it was only a day later when percy realized. they were high schoolers. horny high schoolers. and a lot of them had 1. the ability to make edits and 2. a love for middle aged men.

Shit is now properly kicking off on twitter so I am ranting here
this is v ranty and probably makes no sense because I am having a real hard time articulating my thoughts in a coherent manner. but the men are being so shit I had to rant.
I am really happy that Ferrari social media and marketing have realised that we are in the 21st century. I like that they have realised that they have two very attractive drivers and that creating the right kind of content with them can allow them to reach a "new" demographic.
I also have to be honest and say that originally the shirtless and suggestive content with Charles felt a little bit exploitative but he himself is leaning into it on his own socials so he clearly has no issue with it. And good on him! He is hot and him and the team know it so why not use it as long as he is ok with it which he very much seems to be!
The correlation between thirst trap and shit race is a little worrying but besides the point.
I personally find it a little bit much sometimes but I am also someone who kinda enjoys being subtly marketed towards. I like the more "organic" feel. So I personally would prefer the content in "real time" so like Singapore ice bath content is a given so post it when it happens and not the Charles was in an ice bath three weeks ago content to warm us up for the new ice bath content.
But that is a to each their own thing. And I do wonder how much of that is my own internalised misogyny and need for male validation.
What really pisses me off is the reactions it's getting rn from men. Because the men have picked up on it and some are flinging misogyny at everyone including Charles. As if shirtless pictures somehow undermine his talent as an athlete.
The complete lack of understanding that not everything is marketed towards them and that it being marketed towards women doesn't make it bad pisses me off.
So much of the objection comes from a deeply misogynistic and gate keepy place. They don't like that F1 and teams are marketing towards women in order to increase their audiences because they don't want us to join.
The funniest thing is tho when they cry about sexualisation. This is a sport that used to employ women for the sole purpose of standing around and being hot. That was their job. These drivers that are now being "sexualised" just happen to be hot and are using it to their advantage but that isn't their primary purpose in F1. Also drivers have "sexualised" themselves and used their appearances to sell themselves and various other things for as long as F1 has existed. It's just now that the men are seeing that it works via social media.
I don't know quite how much of that sorta reaction from men other drivers are getting, but it does feel like it's more intense with Charles. He is leaning into it a little bit more than some others but nobody cries on twitter about pandering to female fans when Carlos posts himself cycling shirtless in a Sauna.
What also pisses me off is the infantilization of women. They love to talk about how it's all for the 13/14 year olds and how it's bad for the sport and whatever. But I'm sorry from what I have seen the women lusting after Charles the most are from 18 upwards to probably 90.
It's such a weird combination of not wanting women to join their favourite sports fandom, standard misogyny but also massive jealousy because they themselves will never get the same amount of female attention as these drivers are getting.
edit: I forgot to add that the fact that they too find Charles attractive definitely plays into it. Because Georges shirtless content isn't getting quite the same reaction from these men.

Image Description: Two stat blocks for the stonesinger, the first is for D&D 5e and the second is for 13th Age. Full text available below the read more. End ID.
Stonesingers are unnatural creatures spawned forth when the reality twisting nature of the Far Realm touches upon the Material Plane and grants life to stone. It takes a scorpionlike form, with a dozen legs each tipped in jagged, razor sharp crystals, layered stone scales that cover its back, and a lamprey mouth on the tip of its tail. In place of a scorpion’s normal mouth are a mass of purple tentacles with sharp points, though these tentacles aren’t strong or fast enough to serve as weapons in combat.
Many mistake them for creatures of elemental earth, and they can even control unworked stone with innate magics, but they are truly native to the Material Plane. They are most often found deep underground where the Far Realm’s influence has little else to work on besides raw stone, taking years or even decades to be born. A given opening to the Far Realm can birth forth many stonesingers over time before naturally closing or being forced shut by outside interference.
Stonesingers are consummate performers as their name suggests, particularly interested in song. They compose their own songs, relying purely on natural vocal talent with no instruments of any kind, and will seek out an audience to show off before. Some will even kidnap people to create an audience if they can’t find one otherwise, trapping victims in magically shaped stone and singing for them until they die of thirst. If multiple stonesingers meet, they will usually try to find a judge to decide which of them has the best song. They also appreciate other singers, and a creature that can perform a particularly impressive song may be able to deal with a stonesinger (a DC 25 Performance check using no instrument in 5e, or a DC 25 Charisma check with an appropriate background for 13th Age), not just calming it but potentially even buying its allegiance for a short time. Communication can be difficult however, as stonesingers speak their own created language, and have rarely spent the time to learn any others. Use of magic to speak with one usually finds it to be very self centered and overly dramatic, acting the part of an arrogant star, but their personalities do vary somewhat.

What’s not to like about photoshoots? Nothing really. You get to wear designer clothes, get your make up done and get pretty pictures taken. Sounds great. Unless you’ve been doing it for almost ten hours. That was your predicament. You’d been shooting pictures for your album cover for the better part of a day and there was no end in sight. You’d tried to keep your energy up, tried to remain in the zone but it was harder than it looked. You were quickly descending into the land of grumpy. All you wanted was your bed a bottle of wine and one of Chris’ shirts.
“All right Uriah, that’s it. A few more shots and I think we’ll be good,” Boris shouted from behind the camera as he continued to snap away. Using that as some solace you held tightly to your resolve and pressed on.
Twenty minutes turned to forty and forty turned to two hours. After three and a half hours Boris finally called wrap. You were exhausted. You sat down with the crew and went through the three hundred plus images hoping to mark your favorites and eliminate those that just didn’t go well. The final decision was going to be left up to you and the record company, but you knew how to make your voice be the final one. You, after all, were the talent. You’d gotten far enough in your career that you held plenty of weight.
You didn’t get to crawl into bed with one of Chris’ shirts and a bottle of wine until near three in the morning. Taking comfort in his scent and the alcohol your unwind was easy. Once the bottle was finished you found yourself nodding off until Chris called. Once you saw his face, you lit up.
“You look tired.” Scoffing you nodded.
“I’m exhausted. Yet another photoshoot for the album. Hopefully, we finally have the album cover art.”
“Okay, that’s great. Are you happy with them?”
“They’re fine. I’m happier to be done with it. How are you?”
“Good, finally getting in.” You watched him set his phone down and peel his shirt off in the frame. Sighing you sunk deeper into the covers and watched the show. It was like he didn’t realize what he was doing. After he’d discarded his shirt his pants followed until he was only in his underwear. You laid there and admired your husband. You’d never get tired of this view.
“It is a shame to be so damn fine.” As if realizing what he’d done he snorted and laughed then took up his phone and carried you with him to another room.
“Me? Have you looked in the mirror lately Mrs. Evans?” You smiled then sighed.
 “Is that my shirt?”
“I miss you,” you defended. His groan was long. You heard the rustling of sheets and once the motion of the camera stopped there he was laying in the bed with a sweet smirk on his face.
Tumblr media
“I miss you too, dragonfly.” You changed your position in the bed not caring that now his shirt had risen up to your hip exposing your bare thigh to him. You watched as his eyes raked over your skin then back to your eyes.
“I’ve been thinking, after the premier and the hoopla we should take a vacation. You, me, no phones, or work, just us,” Chris proposed. It sounded blissful.
“My god that sounds so good. I think we’ve earned it.”
“I think so too, sweetheart.” The two of you laid there not saying a word just staring at each other. Your connection felt stronger than ever. Therapy had done what it was supposed to. You guys were better than ever. In fact, you were so much better you’d completed your last session with Dr. Danquah feeling incredibly optimistic and pleased with how successfully you’d been.
It didn’t take long for the two of you to fall asleep with each other still on the call with one thought to fall asleep to. Life was good.
  -Two Days Later-
Tumblr media
“Sounds like a plan,” Zora responded once you’d finished going over your plan for the next three months.
You and Chris had made such great progress in therapy that you felt more hopeful about the probability of your marriage surviving and not just surviving but thriving and becoming better than it ever had been. You’d both learned so much and every day the two of you were diligently working to put what you learned into play. He made a conscious effort to make you feel listened to and not just heard. You made an effort to give him the benefit of the doubt more times than not. Now after successful completion of near nine weeks of therapy, you both felt closer to each other. The love you felt for him had grown when you didn’t think it was possible to love him more.
The rest of your team left your office and it left you, Zora and Kizzy. Zora perched on your desk and watched you sign off on the rest of the contracts that needed to be couriered out. The next three months were setting up to be busy. You’d taken all the time you could and so had Chris. He was now in Los Angeles for meetings and interviews. It was his time to actually be present for the press centered on Knives out especially with it opening in a week.
“How’s Chris doing in LA? This is the first time in weeks you two have been apart.” You nodded at Zora’s inquiry.
She was right. You’d gotten so comfortable having him so close. You’d created a routine that you fell in love with, a routine that you now missed. It had been a week since he’d been gone, and you felt his absence to your core.
“He’s doing good. He says he’s trying to acclimate back into press touring and being away but it’s hard.”
“Uugh, you two are so stinking cute I can’t deal,” Kizzy groaned out. you couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m glad you guys are doing better and found a way back to each other,” Zora added.
You stood and handed her the folder. Once she took them and she nodded and got to work on her laptop scanning them for your records. The next step was sending a copy to your lawyers before sending them back.
Your phone rang loudly in your home office. When you looked at the screen you saw your mother’s name pop up.
 “Hi, mama.”
“Uriah, who the hell is this white woman?”
“Uh—what white woman, mama?” Kizzy and Zora both looked amused, they knew your mother’s antics and the way she spoke. They often got a good laugh from it.
“This woman I’m seeing on The Wendy Williams show.”
Your confusion took over. You sighed then groaned. “Mama, I don’t have time to walk you through the who is who of the celebrity world. Try googling her.”
“Uriah Letecia Tyler-Evans. You better know who this woman is. From the things I’m hearing from Wendy, you should have her as top priority on your to-do list. By to do list I mean beat down list.”
Kizzy was the one to snort loudly. You gave her a look that had her clamping her hand over her mouth in an effort to stop any others from escaping.
“Mama, what are you talking about?”
“Turn on The Wendy Williams show now!” Zora approached with the remote and turned the tv on then proceeded to find the right channel. Once Wendy’s face filled the screen the volume increased. You were just in time to hear the audible gasp and “ooh” from the audience.
“Okay mama Wendy is on. What is so important?”
“Wait for it and listen,” your mother instructed.
“So, I don’t know what kind of marriage they have but if this were my marriage, and I know what you’re going to say my marriage fell apart from the same thing—an easy, trifling’ homewrecking whore.” Again, the audience gasped and “oohed”.
“Yeah I know, if you live in a glass house you shouldn’t throw stones but look y’all. In no world is this okay.” A video played of Ana wearing the sweater Chris wore in character in Knives Out. It was evident she had on nothing else but the sweater. She danced around while giving her best sexy eyes to the camera. You didn’t hear a thing else, not from Wendy or the audience, or even the music that was playing on the video. The video stopped and flipped to a picture of her posing in the sweater. You zeroed in on the caption.
“That was weird, anyway what I wanted to say is go see knives out. Also, thanks Chris for the sweater. I think it looks better on me this way, but you can feel free to come and take it and prove me wrong.”
As if you were a bull in the pen you saw red.
“This bitch!” Yours, Kizzy’s and Zora’s voice all merged into one as the three of you said the same thing, at the same time the same exact way. You looked at them and the looks on their faces made you wonder if you looked the same way. Pissed.
“First of all, this is all levels of inappropriate. I may be jaded and reading into things too much but ol’ girl didn’t have to put his sweater on with nothing else on. She posted this for a reason besides promo for their movie. Second, this is a thirst trap if I’ve ever seen one, now it’s not as extreme as others but a low-level thirst trap is still a thirst trap. This is a thirst trap of testing the waters. This is definitely flirtatious. Also, the caption, girl.” Wendy’s face said it all.
“Girl you know you not slick. This is disrespectful on all levels to this man’s real wife Uriah Evans. Again, I don’t know what kind of marriage they have but this isn’t the first time I’ve seen some suspect behavior from this woman toward Chris Evans. I get it he’s hot, he is a fine piece of white chocolate. The draw of a married man is appealing it’s like a competition but girl no. This man has a whole wife. Back off.”
 The audience clapped and cheered.
“Do you see now Uriah. Now, who is this woman? You better tell me this isn’t the same trollop that tested your marriage a few months ago.”
“Mama I’ll call you back.” You hung up and prepared to dial Chris but before pressing the green call button you paused and thought about what you were about to do and what you were about to say. Every instinct in your body was saying blow up and rain hellfire on him, but thanks to the last months of work in therapy, part of you hesitated.
“Fuck!” You hit the desk and took several deep breaths. “This bitch really is grinding my last fucking nerve!”
“For good fucking reason. What the hell is that? Did Chris really send that to her?”
You had no idea. He very well could have. Again, you stopped and thought about things. He wouldn’t dare, not after everything you’d been through these last months, not after everything you came so close to losing. Still, there she was wearing the sweater. You looked back to the paused tv and examined the freeze frame of the picture. She looked so damn pleased with herself. Before you could fester anymore anger your phone rang again. This time it was Chris.
“Give me a minute, guys.” Kizzy and Zora walked out giving you a little privacy before you answered your phone.
“Hey, baby. I miss you,” Chris said with a smile on his face. You took another deep breath and tried to push away any ill will.
 “I miss you too.”
“Are you okay?” He was walking around making you dizzy. When he finally stopped he sat down in perfect lighting.
“Yeah, I’m good. How are you? What’re you doing?”
“I just finished up wardrobe here in San Diego, getting ready to do yet another interview.” He leaned back and sighed.
“Okay, cool.” You couldn’t find anything else to say. You didn’t want to blow up at him or even ask him because you didn’t want to give him the impression you didn’t trust him. You understood now, you trusted him you just didn’t trust her.
“Are you all set to come out? I can’t wait to see you.”
“Uh, yeah, I’ll be on a flight day after tomorrow. I’m just finishing up some loose ends.” His smile was bright, and a glimmer caught your eye.
Squinting your eyes, you locked in on it then looked back to the tv at her background. Your eyes went back and forth for several moments before you felt the pit of your stomach fall. The backgrounds were one hundred percent identical. Her picture and video were taken from his room.

The idea, consistent with the author, is to undertake every week  new reflexes: an "clean" and one which appears more hard: some thing to start easily but effectively, without setting an excessive amount of pressure but with all the tools to be successful over the times ...
I do not eat processed foods
A assignment given that almost 80% of the products of a grocery store are, and, as a end result, include hidden sugars, terrible fats and salt. Just Keto Diet Side Effects Disposing of and cooking (even very genuinely) is noticeably useful: it may thoroughly be a zucchini omelette and chickpeas in salad, it'll no longer take longer than warming an commercial burger ... But the consequences on the silhouette ( and fitness) are very one of a kind!
I now not drink soda and fruit juice
With almost nine tablespoons coffee sugar consistent with can, sodas pressure up the burden and promote diabetes. The trick for those who want "taste": water flavored "home" with a sparkling squeezed lemon or mint leaves, glowing water, infusions cold.
I finish dinner round 19h and do now not devour anything till the subsequent morning 10h.

We also can finish at 8pm (exercise when we've dinner with the children or by myself) or 9pm (as a couple) and shift the buy Just Keto Diet pills meal through skipping the breakfast (see subsequent advice). It keeps 15 hours of fasting in a row ... Ultra-green, research prove it!
I drink coffee on awakening
It offers a lift, stimulates the metabolism and burning of calories , and promotes intestinal transit ... And lets in you to anticipate breakfast later! You could also drink tea (usually green because it additionally promotes the burning of energy).
I sleep greater!
"Too worn-out, I nibble," says the writer. So after a very good night, my mind is an awful lot higher ... And going to mattress early avoids the enticements of nibbling in front of the television. In addition, there is evidence that lack of sleep reduces strength expenditure and hormonally, promotes obese. So as quickly as we will, visited the website we dive for a good night of as a minimum 7:30, or even 8 or 9 hours as quickly as we can!
I accompany my inexperienced greens with a great fat
Olive oil or walnut, avocado, oily fish, seeds (sunflower, sesame, pumpkin) ... The fats offers flavor, but it additionally plays on satiety and satisfaction, and with these suitable fat, no worries of weight or health when you consider that they may be useful!

In Chilean desert, global thirst for lithium is fueling a ‘water war’
SANTIAGO (Reuters) – On Chilean water regulator Oscar Cristi’s desk, a small white espresso cup teeters atop piles of documents and loose folders that appear on the point of collapse, perhaps an apt metaphor for the growing water crisis in parts of the Andean country.
Locals pray inside a church during a religious holiday at Peine area at the Atacama Salt Flat in the Atacama Desert, Chile August 15, 2018. Picture taken August 15, 2018. REUTERS/Ivan Alvarado
Sitting in his eighth-floor office adjacent the presidential palace, Cristi, a PhD economist, lays out a map of Chile showing key watersheds for mining. Swaths of the mineral-rich north are colored blue, denoting areas where aquifers are over-exploited.
Soon, if Cristi gets his way, they will be red, meaning new water rights will be banned.
Reams of water rights were granted by Chilean governments over decades with little consideration for their cumulative impact as miners scrambled to stake claims on the small pockets of water available in the salt flats of the Salar de Atacama.
The Salar sits in the world’s driest desert. The water trapped beneath the salt pan feeds the world’s biggest copper mine and holds in suspension more than one-third of the world’s current supply of lithium, the ultra-light metal used in electric car batteries, mobile phones and lap-tops.
With demand for water growing in a region economically vital to the country, Cristi is now taking steps to rein in usage. But there is a problem. No one really knows how much water is there. Cristi said Chilean development agency Corfo, which helps oversee lithium extraction in the Salar, hopes to provide a better picture in a study due in December.
“The state has been very reluctant to draw up bans on water extraction,” said Cristi, who was only recently appointed head of the water authority. “We want to take much more diligent approach in decreeing prohibited areas.”
Cristi did not say why past governments had been hesitant to declare bans.
In Chile, threats of a government crackdown on over-usage of water often ring hollow. Mines need water, and the country´s copper-driven economy needs mines. A sweeping overhaul of Chile’s dictatorship-era water code proposed in 2014 has languished in Congress, slowed by intense lobbying by industry.

Now though, the mining industry is paying close attention to Cristi. Earlier this month his agency imposed a rare ban on new permits to extract water from an aquifer that is a critical water supply for BHP´s Escondida, the world´s largest copper mine.
The agency is also preparing to create a drinking water reserve nearer the operations of top lithium producers SQM and Albemarle that would allow the government to further restrict water use there.
SQM and Albemarle say they have all the water rights they need and do not expect new restrictions to impact their current or future production of lithium.
‘WATER WAR’
A global boom in demand for lithium has set off a scramble in Chile, which is home to nearly 50 percent of the world’s reserves of the metal.
Local indigenous groups, SQM and Albemarle, regional copper miners and newcomers to the region are all competing for water.
“What we have is a water war in the salt pan. There’s a huge crush on water and nowhere to get it from,” said Alonso Barros, an attorney with the Atacama Desert Foundation, an NGO that works with indigenous groups in the region.
SQM and Albemarle both recently signed deals with the government to sharply increase their quotas for extracting lithium from the Salar, although they say they will not use any more water than they have already been granted. Newcomers like Wealth Minerals, New Energy Metals, and Lithium Chile have also announced projects in the salt flats.
Wealth Minerals, New Energy Metals and Lithium Chile did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

DATA DROUGHT
On a computer screen, Cristi scrolls through a spreadsheet showing row upon row of water rights granted decades ago in the southernmost sector of the Salar – totaling six times more than the government now believes available – with little more than each company’s own data to support their sustainability.
Past governments did not adequately map how much water is available, says Cristi. Now monitoring wells are being installed in some areas, but base line data is still lacking.
“Our (understanding) continues to be limited now, but back then, it was very limited,” he said.
The cumulative impact of water rights granted over the years to copper and lithium miners in the world’s most arid desert has never been considered, according to Ingrid Garces, a professor who studies salt flats at Chile’s University of Antofagasta.
“We’re managing lithium as though it were a type of hard-rock mining,” said Garces. “But we’re mining water, not rock. This is a watershed.”
Take too much water from one place, she says, and it may impact another, comparing it to sucking water from a glass with a syringe.
“Even if you’re drawing from just one area, the whole is still reduced,” she said.
Sorting out the water crisis at Atacama is complicated by a lack of data, but also a jurisdiction issue.
The brine from which miners extract lithium is water, but in Chile, it is regulated as a mineral like copper or iron. Environmental regulators handle permits for brine, while the water authority permits freshwater pumping.
A lack of communication between the two, combined with a lack of understanding about how freshwater and brine interact beneath the Salar, has left authorities hamstrung, says Cristi.
“There may be an imbalance that we’re not accounting for,” he said.

Psalm 69
Psalm 69
Prayer for Deliverance from Persecution
To the leader: according to Lilies. Of David.
1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. 3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.
4 More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; many are those who would destroy me, my enemies who accuse me falsely. What I did not steal must I now restore? 5 O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
6 Do not let those who hope in you be put to shame because of me, O Lord God of hosts; do not let those who seek you be dishonored because of me, O God of Israel. 7 It is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that shame has covered my face. 8 I have become a stranger to my kindred, an alien to my mother’s children.
9 It is zeal for your house that has consumed me; the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I humbled my soul with fasting,[a] they insulted me for doing so. 11 When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. 12 I am the subject of gossip for those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me. With your faithful help 14 rescue me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. 15 Do not let the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the Pit close its mouth over me.
16 Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress—make haste to answer me. 18 Draw near to me, redeem me, set me free because of my enemies.
19 You know the insults I receive, and my shame and dishonor; my foes are all known to you. 20 Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. 21 They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
22 Let their table be a trap for them, a snare for their allies. 23 Let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually. 24 Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them. 25 May their camp be a desolation; let no one live in their tents. 26 For they persecute those whom you have struck down, and those whom you have wounded, they attack still more.[b] 27 Add guilt to their guilt; may they have no acquittal from you. 28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous. 29 But I am lowly and in pain; let your salvation, O God, protect me.
30 I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 This will please the Lord more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. 32 Let the oppressed see it and be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. 33 For the Lord hears the needy, and does not despise his own that are in bonds.
34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. 35 For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah; and his servants shall live[c] there and possess it; 36 the children of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall live in it.

Psalm 73
BOOK III
(Psalms 73–89)
Psalm 73
Plea for Relief from Oppressors
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 Truly God is good to the upright,[a] to those who are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. 3 For I was envious of the arrogant; I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pain; their bodies are sound and sleek. 5 They are not in trouble as others are; they are not plagued like other people. 6 Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them like a garment. 7 Their eyes swell out with fatness; their hearts overflow with follies. 8 They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression. 9 They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues range over the earth.
10 Therefore the people turn and praise them,[b] and find no fault in them.[c] 11 And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?” 12 Such are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches. 13 All in vain I have kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence. 14 For all day long I have been plagued, and am punished every morning.
15 If I had said, “I will talk on in this way,” I would have been untrue to the circle of your children. 16 But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, 17 until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I perceived their end. 18 Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin. 19 How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors! 20 They are[d] like a dream when one awakes; on awaking you despise their phantoms.
21 When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, 22 I was stupid and ignorant; I was like a brute beast toward you. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me with honor.[e] 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength[f] of my heart and my portion forever.
27 Indeed, those who are far from you will perish; you put an end to those who are false to you. 28 But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, to tell of all your works.

Isaiah 56:1-8
The Covenant Extended to All Who Obey
56 Thus says the Lord: Maintain justice, and do what is right, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.
2 Happy is the mortal who does this, the one who holds it fast, who keeps the sabbath, not profaning it, and refrains from doing any evil.
3 Do not let the foreigner joined to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely separate me from his people”; and do not let the eunuch say, “I am just a dry tree.” 4 For thus says the Lord: To the eunuchs who keep my sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant, 5 I will give, in my house and within my walls, a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.
6 And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the sabbath, and do not profane it, and hold fast my covenant— 7 these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. 8 Thus says the Lord God, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, I will gather others to them besides those already gathered.[a]

Galatians 5:16-24
The Works of the Flesh
16 Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The Fruit of the Spirit
22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Mark 9:2-13
The Transfiguration
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one[a] on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings,[b] one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved;[c] listen to him!” 8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
The Coming of Elijah
9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean. 11 Then they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 12 He said to them, “Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.”
