something bad happened to you, and you died, and you came back wrong.

not wrong all the way. the little ways. you forget important dates, stopped going out with friends. it's harder to make you smile. you're apathetic towards things you used to love, afraid of places you used to go to cheer up. quieter. flinching. different.

you came back for love. you're still here for love. what pulled you back was a brightness so loud that even death couldn't outshout it. death heard the call and smiled at you and said okay. go home. somebody is waiting for you.

but you came back different. like lot's wife; you've turned into salt. you used to chirp through life in hops and skips; but now you lose skin just standing up. you have to move slower, skimming across this world without-touching-it. most things feel dull - until they're suddenly all-too-much. life, and being alive just rushes up and over you and you get hopelessly crushed.

you try to explain it to them: it is ugly, but this is what you are, now. the huge golden hoop of your halo now a little bronze ring. you are still watering your plants and wearing the same clothes. after all, you worked hard to come home. this life; so odd and off-color, now that you are wrong.

but they waited for you - it's just that they wanted the "you" that happened before this. the "you" that could sing in the show and hug people tight and look at a blade without breaking down to cry. the you with a smile in pictures. god, holyshit, it's like looking at a completely different person, isn't it. that other-you; the one they actually wanted.

you are the consolation prize. you are the body that forgot the ghost. you are the memory of the bad thing, and the death after; like you are wearing that memory as a banner. you are a fragment, an assembly. simulacrum. you don't make eye contact in mirrors, afraid the light will glance off and your true nature will flash back at you.

you hear them talk about it in their hushed, desperate whispers. sometimes they even admit it to your face; harsh and violent, acid thrown at christmas dinner. god, can you just fucking be normal again. you do not remember what normal is. you had to climb so far to get back here; you are far too exhausted. you want to open the glass door of your heart and show all the gears. can you help resolve whatever got messed up?

you try so, so hard. you came back for them. because you believed they would love you, even when you were so horribly broken. because you believed they would be patient. because you believed unconditional meant "without exception." you cannot do things the same way. you just get tired too quickly these days.

you want to put them on a couch and pour them the tea with hands that shake more than they remember. you want to line them up and draw them a map of where you have had to wander. you want to show every bruise in a backsplash; the little helpless ant of your soul carrying all that weight, over and over. you want to say: yes! it is different! but i did it for love!

you want to say: "i'm not the same, but i'm yours and i'm here. can that be enough?"

#this is very obviously about my battle with #ptsd #but i think it's also like a pretty apt metaphor for a lot of things like setting boundaries or going to therapy or choosing recovery #i was thinking about the 'comes back wrong' trope and i was like. oh no i have feelings about this bc i have mental illness #and once i stopped masking - i was WRONG. i was different #here's the good news: i am now INNUNDATED with love. fucking swimming in it. excelling at it. the people who stayed #learned my new self. my new different body and how i am different but i am trying. they have held me so tightly #and my life no longer feels quiet. it is not based in my suffering. it feels like i have been growing a tree in my chest #and now it is flowering.#it is so lovely to be surrounded by people who have said - oh! you cut off so many branches i was worried you weren't the same. but now...#... this is just a new you. and i love you. and i love that you're different and happy.#(but yeah also im nb so i was absolutely influenced by Trans things)

heyy i would like more of how thalia's time as a tree affected her. was she asleep? was she conscious at all? did she feel trapped, or at peace? could she tell when someone was approaching? did it change her?? chat did it change her. does she miss it??? she is not the same girl she once was, that is much clear. but why, exactly. what changed. i have so many questions

#rick fr gave us the coolest backstory and left it untouched #oh yeah she's the first child of the Most Powerful God in centuries. she died protecting those she loved at the age of twelve.#she was turned into a tree by her father (who KNEW he couldn't have kids) and came back when the guy she died for poisoned it #she escaped an abusive mother and founded a family of her own but when she came back they were older and colder... oh and there's this guy #- percy. he's kinda taking her place in her sister's life. he wasn't supposed to be born either. they're so alike in so many ways #but no biggie they're like friends or whatever- also she's gonna disappear from the narrative in my next series bc why tf not #like come onn!! give me more or i'll have to make it up myself #thalia grace #percy jackson #pjo books #rr crit #<- not really but worth mentioning still #anyway justice for thalia grace i love her she deserves more

I need a completely rewritten teen wolf series with Derek Hale as the main character. I think it would heal me.

#we follow Derek from New York. Laura left for beacon hills. it’s been six years since he was back but he hasn’t heard from her #and hes going stir crazy waiting. he packs up and travels back. it’s almost too much immediately. he still can’t get a hold of Laura #he can’t resist going home. it’s like a natural pull that guides him back. all at once he’s 16 again. staring at the wreckage of his life #deputy stilinski is sherrif now. it’s reassuring in the slightest that the police force seems to have moved on from how corrupt it was #he catches her scent and it’s putrid. bile catches in his throat. he seeks it out. still in denial to what he knows it means.#when he finds Laura it’s like the world ends all over again. he can’t stand to see her like this. he gives her a proper burial.#the best he can do at least #he visits Peter. he’s not the man Derek remembers- so full of fire and cunning. their relationship may have been strained at times.#often Derek felt more like Eve being swayed by the snake than a normal friendship #but this isn’t the sharp tongued uncle who guided him. this is a broken shell. all that remained of his family. he was so lost.#22 but he barely knew how to function without his family- his pack paving the way #Laura handled everything. she got the apartment. she made sure they had food. Derek looks back and feels so useless #he was so lost in his grief. Laura must of felt the same way but she never let them drown in it #she made sure he got his GED. even got him to enroll in community college classes.#he took them online. he never was able to warm up to people the same way. he used to be so full of life. now he just wanted to be left alone #he studied English. never finished his degree. doesn’t look like he ever will now. he can’t go back to Laura and his shared home.#can’t bare to see another shell of a home #he vents to the vacant audience of Peter and his cold fixed eyes #Derek leaves. he wants to promise he’ll return soon #but promises feel costly these days #he decides to go back to the reserve. maybe he can find some clue as to what happened to Laura #someone lured her here. someone who knew them and their history here #his mind went to the worst. Kate. why would she go through the trouble six years later. why wait so long.#Derek couldn’t stomach the thought of facing her. he focused on the woods. the scents were all over the place.#clearly multiple people had been through here recently. two scents were much stronger. Derek follows them #but when he hears the crunch of leaves he realizes why the scents are so strong. they’re still here #he ducks behind some trees. listening in on their conversation. but an echo of their scent catches his attention #he spots an inhaler on the ground. he puts two and two together and swipes it from the leaves.#he comes out once they’re closer. tossing over the inhaler- he figures they’ll leave. dumb kids messing around in the woods #he reminds them this is private property. though that may not be true anymore. he recognizes the scent of a new beta. interesting.

The blue jays have started building a nest that's right next to my balcony and I see them perfectly from my usual seat!

#i hope ill get to see some babies blue jay #but anyways its a blessing whenever they come on my balcony or when i can just see them #the back alley of my appartment is basically my backyard ok ive decided that #anyways theres a bunch of trees (AND MORE IMPORTANTLY RIGHT ACROSS FROM MY BEDROOMS WINDOW IS A LILAC TREE)#i cant even begin to explain how awesome that is to me #anyways ive been feeding the birds sporadically since living here and my downstairs neighbours have as well #so theres lots of city wild life #also the water is pretty close by i suppose that helps!#i forget i live in a “green” part of the city #le saint laurent est juste a côté #cant wait to go smoke by the fleuve during the summer #also fun Winter lore : when i was a kid i used to always call Montreal “pays pas beau” (ugly country)#i would say that everywhere i went that had no/little trees 😭😭😭😭

JOAQUIN COBALT (THE UNTITLEDVERSE)

This feels accurate for Joaquin considering he begins The UnTitledverse as an adolescent, and the series follows his growth and youth to adulthood. Joaquin has the weight of the world (or rather multiverse) on him, but, he still has time to be a child, to be a teen, to be his own identity, with Maisie, Mario, Calvin and all his found family and friends to share the weight.

SILVA OMAR (THE SILVER CHRONICLES [FAR CRY 5 & FAR CRY NEW DAWN])

Religious themes (including the trauma) for Silva go brrr! Like what else is there to say?

HAOYU ANABUKI (LIFE, DESPAIR & MONSTERS)

Yeah this makes sense for them. Haoyu is someone who's not used to love and when it comes it is gonna be the most life-changing thing for them. For once something they will have to make a commitment towards keeping if they want it. Haoyu is also the type to go in a panic as well as overthink; including full-on denial.

MARISSA "RESS" BISHOP (A RADIOACTIVE CALAMITY OF LOVE, BOMBS & GORE [FALLOUT])

While this definitely suits Ress at her best, I don't think it encapsulates everything about her. Because while Ress' love is bountiful and ageless and endless... there's also the fear of losing it all, because Ress will outlive everyone she knows because her own natural mortality outlasts everyone else's. The only person that would be around the longest with her (and meet her at what would be considered old age for a hybrid species like them) would have been her older half-brother, Ore... but even that is cruelly taken away from her by their father Urias and his Occult. Yeah, so while this definitely does shine a light on the happiness and thrill Ress would feel with her lover (prime example being Piper), it doesn't acknowledge the grief she'd eventually have to face.

someday i'll write a long and in depth letterboxd review detailing Why, exactly, le otto montagne hit me the way it did but until that day comes. the thing i feel like i keep coming back to with this movie is specifically the ending and the way it COULD show us all ice and snow and winter, i.e. it's over, it's dead. and i think if the movie were more tragic, which it isn't really to me, it would work, but the thing is we see the ice melting, we see new life, we see things growing again. and part of this is to give us the last shot with the birds, but another part to me is the idea that things will still go on, nothing has changed really, spring will come and then summer and then fall and there will be another winter, and the house will fall into ruin again and it will all continue. but at the same time there is the dead tree, which is dead and isn't coming back. there are some mountains you can't return to etc etc

#neon has thoughts #like. life doesn't stop. but our and pietro's time with this story is over. if that makes any sense #it was and it happened and it ended and life will carry on but at the same time the tree is dead and it isn't coming back #ANYWAY. le otto montagne film of the year and winner of every award in my heart #the first time i noticed the dead tree it was like being punched in the stomach. 10/10 film #le otto montagne #there's a house with a hole in its roof but it's served its purpose #to me it's also really really important what pietro says about those like him who on the first and highest peak have lost a friend #i.e. there are eight and it is the highest and maybe most significant but he will carry on #despite everything there's still life and hope to me. which is why i don't think it's sad / tragic #it could have been but it isn't. it's intense sure but not sad

heyyy so im actually really awful at moodboards but i do save pictures of things that inspire standstill so heres some of those! sorry they arent like aesthetically cohesive. standstill talks about a lot of different themes all neatly tied together w the thin thread of a romance plot so sometimes it's hard to describe those in a way that feels coherent, even in picture form. hopefully u get the idea though 👍

#jade answers #Anonymous #straud asks #dogs/rabbits are thematic for vlad and brie specifically. when i see dogs or rabbits i think of them #bc it's about... the power play... it's about... the switching... wink... sometimes you're the dog and sometimes you're the rabbit #birds are more thematic for their life circumstance than Them as people. the birds are more about the journey #the trees remind me of them too... specifically the picture i included. bc it has underwent a process known as inosculation #which is when two trees growing in proximity begin to merge together into one tree #run down trailers bc those are where most of brie's childhood memories are. notice the forest surrounding the trailer #forest too are special in standstill... there are 2 posts so far of caleb and lilith traversing the forest when they arent supposed to #vs vladislaus having a genuine fear of going into the forest (hasnt been shown yet on my blog but it's written and comes up soon)#vs breanna not only going into the forest but being genuinely unafraid of it unlike lilith and caleb who enter it with fear #and vlad who doesnt enter the forest at all bc of his fear #the picture of the red woman swimming in blackness. almost like she's drowning in water. it evokes the image of human vlad #who stood on the dock overlooking the red bloodied water. and even more so the image of vlad as he was transformed #since he was lying on his back. and lastly that bible quote is included bc it's a quote vladislaus repeats in his head often #i think? i took out the scenes where he says that quote repeatedly bc i decided his compulsions are mainly internal but #it is an important quote for him nonetheless and i think about it very often while im writing #if you actually read all that im making out with you sloppy style

i'm also thinking about "the juniper tree" and the fact there's a whole tale type called "mother killed me, father ate me" and how that can be twisted as a metaphor for mary, dean, and john where mary's death is dean's death and as a result he is unwittingly consumed by john.

the mother does actually die in "the juniper tree" and it's the step mother who kills the boy, but if the mother hadn't died in the first place, there would have been no step mother to kill him. if mary hadn't made the deal, mary wouldn't have died and dean wouldn't have had to shift into the life john shifted him into. and through john moving dean in that direction he consumes who dean could have been, remolds dean into something he may not have organically become, and destroys any chance dean has of living life as a fully realized and independent person.

#i've always thought about sam as the boy and dean as marlene because marlene puts the boy's bones under the juniper tree #which is the representation of the boy's birth mother #and in doing this marlene facilitates the boy coming back back to life #which is obvi very all hell breaks loose #but yeah dean as the boy is making my brain itchy #deanjohn #as beautiful as his dead mother
