Oh. My. Gosh. I LOVE YOUR ARTSTYLE SO MUCH 馃ス
The way you draw poses, the facial expressions, anatomy, and bubbly style to it is just so wonderful! ;w;
Do you have any advice you're able to give to someone wanting to learn ways to draw dynamic poses and expressions? I'd love to see your methods and ways to draw people if you're able to share!! :D <3
Have a great day, and thank you for sharing your wonderful artwork!
oh my god!! thank you! i'm not really confident with my anatomy so receiving your kind message cheered me up :')
i'm by no means an expert so i find myself using a LOT of references, whether googling reference of stock photos or using 3d models on CSP(or on any of those free online models). tracing in order to study poses is also an good exercise method but i'm always careful to NEVER trace other artists' works, only photos or models that i pose myself! but even then if you trace other artists' works always make sure it's for personal uses and to not upload it as your own work of course :)
another thing that incentivized me to explore dynamic poses is exploring background perspectives? my works nowadays are mostly comics so i try to show varied angles to avoid monotony. perspective rulers on SAI paint tool and procreate are a LIFE SAVER even when you don't know what you're doing. i started from one point perspective to draw something from the perspective of someone standing on the ground like this,
and then move on to two or even three point perspectives as i feel more confident to do so.
lastly for expressions my two main principles are subtle lines on the face and exaggeration when needed. the subtle lines you might see here on daichi's eyebrow, just a bit of an emphasize that he's stressing his face muscles bcs he's in distress
if you're going for a more comedic route, don't be afraid to literally go beyond the face lol (suga in my comics often becomes a victim of this >:D ... i do sometimes want to draw him as a cool guy i really do but he's just too much of a silly guy)
again, i'm not an expert so following lots of tutorials and references by more experienced artists online is probably a better way to advance your skills, however i hope that you find these tidbits of my learning experience useful! again, thank you for your kind words!
#i just realized all expression examples in this post are of distress skdfjslkfj yeah that's what makes the comedy in my comics#OH BTW yeah so speaking of distress#do note the shape of the mouth in these examples bcs that's what distinguishes stress from just plain worry

Genuine question how did u even make something sound good in v4 I've been trying so bad but simply cannot make tuning work馃槶
every time someone asks me to talk about the technical aspects of vocaloid i grow a little stronger and more insane. anyways heres a mini tuning tutorial!! before we start here r my credentials (what my v4 tuning sounds like):
tutorial/tips under the cut :)
ok so. i'm going to go into this assuming you already know how the interface works and just jump right into how i tune. most v4 banks have a nice solid flat tone right off the bat, so what I tend to mess with is the leading transition and following transition, meaning the beginning and end of a note. messing with the middle can be useful for certain affects, but if you drag that pitch around too much it can start to sound like your singer is off-key.
so to start with we're gonna place down an untuned note. it looks something like this:
I want the transition into this note to slowly rise, and then i want a dip in pitch at the end to cut it off. (this is usually the sound i go for, but for your purposes you might want something different. i'll elaborate on that later)
the first thing i do when tuning is zoom as far in to the note as physically possible. it's hard to tell when your song is untuned and it's just a straight line, but the pitchbend interface zooms in and out with the notes, and the more space you have to work with the easier it is to control where your pitch goes.
that's the same note, just zoomed way in, so we have way more space on the pitchbend line to work with.
(note: for the purposes of this post, I'm not touching the pitch bend sensitivity line, and i usually don't touch it when tuning anyway. on default it should be at 1, which means at their highest possible values your pitchbends can go 1 note sharp or flat. i find this is a good place to keep PBS for my tuning.)
so for the leading transition in this note, i want it to start sharp and bend upwards into a clean A3. by about a third of the way through the note, it should no longer be sharp, meaning the leading transition should end at about the red line here:
if you look closely, there are very faint little tic marks on the pitchbend line that correspond with the tic marks in the notes above them. these things are life savers.
so now i know where i want my leading transition to end, and i know roughly what i want it to sound like. next step is to draw the pitch bend, which ends up looking like this:
because there's no note in front of this one, I can let the bend sit a little bit outside of the note, but if I had a note directly before it, i would have to be much more careful about where i started the bend. when drawing bends at the beginning of a note, be careful to make sure that you end the curve on that middle line right there, because that will ensure that the rest of your note doesn't fall sharp or flat. if it's slightly above or below that line, your note will be sharp or flat accordingly.
i want a clear tone for the middle of this note, so i'm going to leave the middle section as that straight line and move on to the following transition. i want this note to have a sharp cutoff, so i'm allowing myself much less space for this bend than i did for the leading transition:
right about there is where i want it to start, and it will end at the cutoff of the note. with a following transition on a longer note, i want to add a little bit of upward pitch variation just before the descent and cutoff, just because i think it sounds a little more realistic that way, so the bend ends up looking like this:
that little hump above the median line before it drops down will add a very slight uptick in pitch before the cutoff which makes it just a tiny bit more realistic. i usually only add this uptick to long notes with noticeable dropoffs, because it can sound a little messy if added to a ton of notes in quick succession and it really needs the sharp following transition to make it sound right. and if there were more notes after this, i would grab that line and bring it back up to the median after the end of that note, but because there aren't i'm leaving it way sharp.
now that we have that pitchbend drawn in, the next step is to render the track (the button that looks like a graph to the right of the cursor/pen/line toolbar.) this will draw the actual pitch line overtop of the note itself, allowing you to see exactly where your pitchbend falls on the piano scale display:
(blue line is vibrato, red is my pitchbend.) as you can see, even though the bend looks REALLY drastic on the pitchbend interface, when rendered it's actually not all that dramatic, just enough to make the note a little more realistic. most newer programs (v6, cevio, synthV, etc) auto-render pitch as soon as you place down a note, but because v4 is an older program you have to tell it to render the track yourself.
here's what that note sounds like before and after tuning:
subtle difference, but noticeable!
of course there are plenty of other things you can do with this interface to get different effects. my personal fav is a little squeak at the beginning of a note:
but you can also add variance to the middle of your notes if the song needs it:
it all depends on what effect you're trying to create!
i also don't always tune both a leading and following transition on every note. if you have a ton of notes in quick succession it's possible to overtune them and make your singer sound like they're struggling to hit them all. if i have a lot of quick notes i tend to just do a really short, quick following transition like this:
it just keeps everything sounding a lot cleaner imo!
btw, here's what len's part of that first song looks like zoomed out. there's a LOT of little variances in pitch in there!!
this is of course not accounting for growl or any other parameters you want to play with. i use most of the other parameters like they're vocal effects rather than pitchbends (with growl being the exception.) brightness and clearness when used in tandem can make your vocals sound very slightly distorted, and breathiness can be used for whispers or raspy effects (though ive found loud/powerful banks don't take breathiness too well.) in theory you can also play with the values like a pitchbend, but i haven't played around with that yet lol.
certain banks very much take variation in pitch better than others. Flower in particular i've found sounds robotic when you tune her no matter what you do. for whatever reason she just really seems to jump between pitches instead of taking the curve smoothly. this is a problem with a lot of louder/power banks but because flower is SO loud she's the most noticeable. softer banks like lumi or luka will usually take pitch curves more smoothly, but because they're so responsive to pitchbends they can also end up going sharp or flat in the wrong places. banks like miku and rin/len seem to sit at a happy medium.
you can also accentuate certain sounds by giving the note a slight jump or dip in pitch at the right time! i've found this particularly useful with fukase, who cannot fucking annunciate to save his life. if a hard sound is getting lost or is too soft, a little jump in pitch can bring it forward again.
tuning in general i think is just something you gotta practice with!! don't try to tune like. a full song immediately right off the bat. play with making individual notes sound a certain way and then move up to song segments, allowing yourself to focus on the effect in one specific note or line instead of making the entire thing sound good. once you figure it out on a small scale it'll get way easier to tune longer songs!
#you really. just have to practice lmao. and if you have the means try tuning multiple different voices!! i know not everyone has the money#or uh...... balls i guess to acquire multiple voicebanks but playing around with multiple different singers was really helpful for me!#vocaloid#asks

I鈥檝e been trying to pick up crochet, but I really struggle with like. Doing more than one line? I keep ending up almost knitting with the crochet hook, and, in general, getting lost and dropping stitches. Do you have any tips for a beginner?
I'm actually not that experienced myself! I used to crochet a little in high school, but my autoimmune illness started disabling my hands, so this is the first time I'm coming back to it after 10 years (thank youuuu vanderbilt)
Personally I prefer to crochet in the round (a continuous spiral) rather than in rows since I like to make little dudes. I think it's more satisfying and I like to see the shape of boy form as I work further through a pattern.
It was super apparent to me that my basics were severely lacking, so I spent a few weeks following along w free pattern tutorials on YouTube (all the jellyfish were my lesson projects!). The jellyfish I've been making were super helpful when it came to learning the basic stitches for creating dudes and it's a fabulous first stop if you're trying to build your foundations. Here's a link to the video (the lady is very good at explaining how to keep track of your loops)
Another life saver for me was incorporating stitch markers. They're used to help you keep track of where you are and when a round begins and ends. You can buy stitch markers online or you can use household items like bobby pins, safety pins, or paperclips. You just loop em around the first stitch of a row to have a concrete stopping point in a stitch sequence.
Hmmm what else.....uhhh yarn needles are really helpful too! I use them a lot when attaching pieces to a body or picking out a stitch I bunked up. Easy to thread since the eyes are so wide and they're great for embroidering patterns over finished base shapes.
If you want to make amigurumi styled work, hook size is important as it determines if your stitches are close enough to keep stuffing from peeking out. Pretty much all yarn labels will have a recommended hook size on them--your amigurumi hook size will be at least one size smaller, but I tend to end up using 1.5mm - 2.5mm smaller. It really varies yarn to yarn, but a couple of test rounds will let you know very early if you have the right size.
It gets naturally easier over time to tell where certain stitches are and what type they are when looking over worked yarn sections--my eyes were CROSSED at first, but it's gotten a lot easier with just a month of practice and I'm starting to incorporate new more difficult strategies and stitch types into off the cuff patterns. Remember, done is better than perfect! Just get that thang made, baby! The next one will be even easier!

We're looking solely for advice and possibly resources but as it says in your pinned thing no vents at this time, but giving context might get misconstrued as doing just that when we don't mean to at all ^^' so I hope this isn't too much for you and I go in with optimism
Tldr how does one switch independently, ie no headmate intervention, as a frontstuck host
Context: There's 2 events that's evidence that we're mentally and physically capable of switching, so it's not like some other people have told me that we might be one of the lucky few who simply can't switch; we absolutely know it's possible we just don't know how
But besides that, who have only had the common factor of "happened whilst host+body was asleep", we've never had a full switch
But for the safety of the entire system we *need* to figure out how to do it, and so far we haven't gotten anywhere. So that's why we're here, because maybe the wider internet has resources we can't find xc
The big problem is that it seems like my headmates don't have autonomy because of me the host when they're co fronting, we have proof that they have memories, thoughts, personalities etc, but every suggestion/guide/tutorial of "calm down and let them take over" hasn't worked because they simply don't have the ability to do anything at all except speak when I'm here. They've described it as being mind controlled before, you're aware of your surroundings but you're incapable of moving your own body or doing any action, so doing the action of "taking over" simply isn't possible
We've been trying to find any resources at all of if I, the host by myself, could like, kick myself out of front? Just go to headspace by myself without anyone else taking over, and then with the body uninhabited, but most importantly, it doesn't have *me* there, they then have the opportunity to do the whole taking over thing
So if either you or someone in the replies might know of anything I can do in this situation that'd literally be a life saver xd
I hope this wasn't too long nor taxing to go through, but discord has been unhelpful at best so we hope to find others we can ask help from ^^
- Ash/Jinx
Instead of guides for alters taking over, I would instead look at guides for dissociation and retreating into innerworld? There is a lot of tulpamancy guides on such thing, and I feel it would be more helpful since its focused on you. I would like any followers to offer up their input though since we do not share the experience!

omg advice on having a good theme i beg!!
AHHHHHHHHHDHSHDHS THIS IS SUCH A SWEET ASK STOP 馃槶馃槶 first of all im extremely thankful and flattered that you would come to ME for theme advice 鈽癸笍
I HOPE this post is helpful in some way, i'm trash at giving advice 馃ゲ keep in mind that this is all from my experience and this is all my opinion 馃檶馃檶
Honestly i dont have much to say. What i keep in mind for my themes is that i have to follow a certain style or a vibe. Like for example my current theme (and the themes i've had for the past.. idk how long) looks like a video game! Usually the ideas pop up in my head themselves, but there are times when i look for inspo on pinterest or simply search stuff up on google. Do not be afraid to look for inspiration and don't feel discouraged when your theme doesn't turn out the way you initially thought it would.
I also usually find it easier to focus on one part of my theme and put the most effort into it. Most of the time the most detailed parts of my themes are my pinned posts/navigations. Specifically, the parts where i introduce myself! Therefore, my thought process usually goes like this:
Choose a certain vibe (video game, magazine, diary, etc.)
Think of a way i could write a short about me in a way that would fit the style i'm going for.
This step is optional, sort of 馃槶 but if nothing pops up in my head i just search up "*insert something* character introduction/info". Like "video game character introduction" "diary character info". Having a visual example is always good. You don't have to necessarily copy it, but looking at different variations and piecing them together in your head definitely helps! That way you can come up with your own idea while using certain parts of certain images you found.
EDIT EDIT AND EDIT!!!
Personally for me, it takes extremely long to get something to look decent. I switch through different apps and ideas. Sometimes i take days to find what i like, and most of the time it looks completely different from how i wanted it to. Just know that you should take as many breaks as you'd like, take a few days if you want to! Looking at something with fresh eyes helps you see the "flaws" you couldn't see when you were frustrated and/or tired. Also helps you get new ideas as well, or interpret the idea you initially had in a completely different way! Delete everything and start from scratch if you want to. Experiment. Please just experiment, trust me. AND AND AND WATCH A LOT OF TUTORIALS !!! YDK THE AMOUNT OF STUFF U CAN DO WITH UR EDITING APP. ESP IBIS PAINT X. OH MY GOD.
The apps that i use are: ibis paint x (this is my main one frrr), picsart, canva, polarr. Also use the website ezgif to make the gifs, if i have to ofc! Trust, that website is a life saver if you don't have Photoshop (dw im broke too HELPP 馃槶馃槶)
I sometimes use capcut as well, then convert the video from mp4 to gif with the ezgif website. Literally promoting that website like my life depends on it, sponsor me :////// slash jay
Also, if you find pictures but want to adjust the colors, use polarr. Absolutely one of my top 3 editing apps, it has helped me a lot!
I've also seen a lot of people put far more effort into their headers instead of navigations, their themes look absolutely stunning as well! Some don't even have headers!
I think it's important to have that balance: having some simple parts and some detailed parts. I keep that in mind for my overall theme and also for the navigations as well. If you put a lot of detail into the header and the navi/pfp/whatever, it just becomes too much.
If you put a lot of detail into your about me part of the navi (if you are even planning to make an about me part), then you should keep the links more simple! If you're putting more details into the links and the way they're placed, the symbols and fonts you use, etc. then keep the about me + pics less complicated!
Themes don't have to be complicated for them to look good, you don't even have to use pictures in the pinned if you don't want to! You can just keep everything short and sweet. Sometimes simple themes are the best ones, if done well.
Also quick tip: I don't recommend using crazy fonts, it becomes harder to read if you overuse them.

hi! i've been following for a while and really like your cosplays. i want to try to cosplay too but i don;t know where there are any cons or where to start and i'm afraid i'd look stupid. do you have any tips for a nervous bee?
hi !! first off, sorry this took forever to answer. i鈥檝e been very busy with life stuff and haven鈥檛 been as active online! thank you so much for the kind words, they do mean a lot to me! ;o;/聽
This is going to get long, so I鈥檒l shove it under a read more!聽
lemme say right out the gate: it鈥檚 okay if your first cosplay isn鈥檛 perfect! there is a total learning curve to this stuff, especially if you have little experience in sewing/makeup/wig styling/etc ! i was so proud of my self years ago when i dyed/sewed my own survey corps jacket from attack on titan. Let me show you a rare cosplay baby photo of me:聽
nnnnnot the best Mikasa Ackerman, right? that鈥檚 okay! I had like, no makeup done and a poorly styled wig and didn鈥檛 know how to pose for photos yet, and I was having fun! I had a blast prepping the costume with my friends and planning for the convention! And no, I didn鈥檛 look like a professional hired by Crunchyroll to advertise the anime鈥檚 English dub release. But I was enjoying myself!聽
For clearer comparison, here鈥檚 a photo of my first attempt at cosplaying Mako from Kill la Kill:聽
And here鈥檚 a newer pic:聽
These pictures were taken about 3 years apart. It takes a lot of practice to refine a costume and get better at makeup! I鈥檓 still battling eye shadows! Not to mention the process of getting into a character鈥檚 head and learning to pose like them! 聽So don鈥檛 worry if your first cosplay is basic or doesn鈥檛 look like one of those people on instagram with thousands of followers!聽
I鈥檓 by no means an expert. I put my D.VA bodysuit on one leg at a time like everyone else. I鈥檓 still learning a lot about makeup, prop making, sewing, etc. It鈥檚 taking me yeeeears to figure it all out. And that鈥檚 okay! What matters is that you have fun with the process. It鈥檚 just a hobby, after all! We鈥檙e all nerds running around dressed like fictional characters. And if anyone has anything mean to say about you or your cosplay, just know they鈥檙e just being a mean-spirited person and what they say about it doesn鈥檛 matter.聽聽
There are plenty of places to find help with cosplay-related matters from cosplay.com message boards to youtube! A quick google search usually turns up plenty ! I also recommend Mango Sirene both here and on youtube! She鈥檚 got great tutorials and Cosplay 101 type videos!聽
I have also done a tutorial for Lapis Lazuli cosplay makeup, so if you want to cosplay a character that requires differently colored skin like someone from Steven Universe, or even a character like Beast Boy from Teen Titans, that could be a good place to start! (Though I wouldn鈥檛 recommend that for a first cosplay because it is a bit more difficult.)
To find cons near you, this website is also super helpful!聽
I also recommend Arda Wigs for any of your fake hair needs. They鈥檙e pricier, but boy are they good! Alternatively, ebay has a wide selection of wigs but you need to tread more carefully there.聽Also, if you鈥檙e overly-organized like me, I recommend the app Cosplanner. It鈥檚 a life saver!
So if you can, grab a few friends and get chugging! You鈥檒l be able to up the ante from this:聽
To this:聽
It鈥檚 only a matter of time!聽
Happy cosplaying!聽
