The more I watch Classic Who, the more I'm bothered by connections throughout the show that are never addressed.

The Vampires of Venice introduces an entirely new species (Saturnyns) with no mention of the haemovores, the vampire-like aquatic creatures that the Doctor had previously encountered.

Is there a connection between these two species from which vampire myths may be derived? Are haemovores related to the plasmavore from Smith and Jones, or the "lupine wavelength haemovariform" from Tooth and Claw? Speaking of which, is there any relation between that werewolf and the one from The Greatest Show in the Galaxy? And speaking of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, is there a connection between the Gods of Ragnarok and Fenric, who is also rooted in Norse mythology?

They did a good job in series 4 connecting the Zocci and Vinvocci, introducing two alien species while acknowledging and explaining their similarity. I'd love to see more connections like that made throughout the lore, even if it's just explained as parallel evolution. It would also be fascinating to further explore the role of aliens in the development of human myths, like they did in The Satan Pit.

126: The Vampires of Venice - Season 5, Episode 6: The Doctor picks up Rory from his stag do to take him and Amy on a romantic trip to Venice in 1580. They see a man approach a group from a girls school, frantically looking for his daughter. He tells the Doctor that something strange happens to the girls at the school, where they seem to be turned into Vampires. Amy agrees to go undercover at the school to find more information. They learn that the "vampires" are actually fish-like aliens from Saturnyne. The perception filters they use allow them to appear human, but prevent them from being seen in mirrors and can't hide their sharp teeth. The Doctor confronts their leader, and discovers her planet was destroyed, but she's taken the survivors here. Her surviving male offspring live in the water, while she needed to convert human females for them to procreate with to save their species. She plans to sink Venice to create a refuge for her people, killing everybody in the process. The Doctor destroys her machine and unable to save her race, she feeds herself to her sons.

131: The Unquiet Dead - Season 1, Episode 3: The Doctor takes Rose back to the past, where they encounter Charles Dickens during a reading of A Christmas Carol, where a real ghost seems to attack. They track the ghost back to a morgue, where they learn there has been an ongoing problem with the corpses being possessed. The mortician's assistant as some psychic abilities, which the Doctor uses to communicate with the ghosts. They reveal themselves to be the Gelf, a species who's physical forms were destroyed in the Time War, the same war that destroyed the Doctor's species. They ask that they be allowed to take deceased human bodies as their new physical forms, which Rose objects to. The Doctor allows it, but when they open a path for the Gelf to come through, they insist that they will take over the whole planet. The mortician's assistant closes the bridge, killing herself in the process, but saving the world.

the dick measuring contest phallic sci-fi implement size comparison was textually appropriate the first time it came up, given jack’s…everything… and the ‘dancing’ subtext; but here… first of all, reusing a joke this dumb is kinda tacky, secondly, it doesn’t even mean anything because, unlike nine, eleven (that comma is doing some HEAVY lifting here) is the most asexual man* i have ever seen and rory doesn’t have any of jack’s initial dashing-masculine-action-hero vibes that he was so desperate to project. he’s a nurse, for fuck’s sake. “emasculation” humour makes zero fucking sense in this case because these two guys have no reason whatsoever to be “fighting over” amy. the constant one-upping was thematically sound in tec/tdd because the ninerosejack polycule tardis trio was genuinely charged with sexual tension. whatever the hell’s going on here on the other hand is almost directly perpendicular in tone: a wholesome couple in a stable relationship accompanied by their tour guide/irresponsible supervisor/overgrown genius toddler. there is no reason to try to cram the square peg of sexual conflict into the perfectly round shape left by its absence. where’s that post about sending moffat a mail bomb. why are you like this, dear god
