Infelizmente a cantora Vange Leonel morreu cedo, conheci um pouco da sua obra, que parece perdida. Fora o seu sucesso Noite Preta, não há mais nada dela em qualquer streamer de música, nem mesmo no you Tube. Morreu em 2014 aos 51 anos de câncer. deixou saudades.

Along with John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, Vangelis pretty much wrote the soundtrack for the 1980s. Of course, for many his masterwork will be his Chariots of Fire score, but for me the scores for Blade Runner and the original Cosmos series will be what I remember him for the most. R.I.P.

A mob-style murder at a petrol station in southern Athens has shone a light on the brutality of the Greek mafia.

A manhunt is underway for the killers of crime boss Vangelis Zambounis, who was gunned down earlier this week.

More than 90 rounds from a Kalashnikov rifle were fired at Zambounis, considered a powerful figure in the Greek criminal underworld.

He was alleged to have led an extortion ring and to have been involved in cigarette and fuel smuggling.

In CCTV video circulated hours after the killing in the early hours of Sunday, a man presumed to be Zambounis is seen getting into an armoured BMW parked outside a petrol station which he owned in the Neos Kosmos area of Athens.

Another vehicle then pulls up behind the BMW. Police later established that it was a Lexus with fake licence plates stolen in Italy months ago.

Two men jump out. One, clad in black and sporting a balaclava, approaches the BMW and fires an AK-47 assault rifle at the driver's window at close range, pausing only to reload.

The gunman then pulls a handgun out of his jacket, opens the car door and shoots the occupant once more, while a second man also fires several Kalashnikov rounds into the vehicle from the other side. Both then drive off in the Lexus.

The burnt-out getaway car was later found by police on the outskirts of Athens.

The viciousness of the killing has generated considerable attention in Greece - not least because it was captured on CCTV and shown on Greek TV soon afterwards. Two police officers were arrested the next day for breaching official confidentiality and leaking the footage to the media.

Greek reports are rife with speculation over the motives for Mr Zambounis's murder.

One theory is that it was ordered in retaliation for the June 2023 killing of mafia rival Vassilis Roubetis. Another theory pins the killing on ongoing tensions between domestic smugglers of tobacco products and foreign mobsters who import cheap cigarettes from Ukraine.

Local media also reported that a Kalashnikov rifle was found in the boot of Mr Zambounis's car, and that he had a pistol in his belt holster.

He is known to have survived a 2018 murder attempt, when his would-be killer attempted to fire into Zambounis's car but his weapon malfunctioned.

According to Greek daily Kathimerini, more than 20 contract killings have been committed since 2017 in Greece among gangs involved in extortion and other criminal activities.

This is so hard! You have to understand, I used to collect soundtracks, so I have a LOT of favorites!

No list of soundtrack greats could omit John Williams. The man is a legend. My favorite of his is probably the Raiders of the Lost Ark March. Today, anyway, lol.

Chariots of Fire by Vangelis was one of my first soundtracks, and still a favorite.

The third is the best TV track of all time, the theme for Doctor Who by Murray Gold.

12. three favourite songs from video games

First sentimental favorite goes to the Magic Meadow (Erana's Peace) theme for Quest for Glory by Mark Seibert. This guitar cover of it is rather lovely.

The Secret of Monkey Island is a classic, and one of my favorite games ever. One of the many reasons for that is the soundtrack, which I heard on my first playthrough on PC speaker, and THEN (*glorious*) on my brand new sound card, a Sound Blaster Pro. 😂 There are a ton of versions of the main theme out there, but I had to post the version that's closest to what I listened to back then.

Last one, also from a classic & favorite game, the title screen theme from Okami. If you haven't played it, the game is available on multiple platforms, and is well worth it, like a Japanese watercolor come to life.

Tracy Chapman's entire eponymous album was one of the first to make me really think about the way other people think and live. Gotta give it to the (still relevant) first song, Talkin' Bout a Revolution.

I was a militant atheist for a long time, mainly out of a sense of self defense. Dar Williams changed my mind about the possibility of reconciling with the faithful in The Christians and the Pagans. I'm married to an Episcopalian who was a religious studies major, so it must have worked. 😅

Yesterday for first time in my life I got into a metro train that wasn't built before I was born; and I felt like walking into the fanciest of the places.

They got little TVs, a voice announcing the stations, working and functional A/C, the interior was all white, the cars were connected and there were maps inside the train.

And the stations had working functional clocks that counted even the seconds, and the EXIT and the platform direction signs had light of their own.

Man, they even play background music in them trains, the doors opened and I was welcomed inside by Vangelis' "Chariots of Fire."

SAME!!! I WANTED AN EXCUSE TO SAY EVERYTHING ON MY MIND, SO THANKS FOR THIS. MASSIVE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!!

OKAY SO FIRST OFF, WOW! The jokes, the animation, the fights, the music, UGH! EVERY JOKE HAD ME CACKLING, I WAS INTERESTED IN EVERY SINGLE FIGHT!

Those first two episodes, OH they got me in the fuckin feels!

Episode 1, hearing how everyone was honoring Nya was so cool! I found it HILARIOUS btw that one of the sides on ALL of the lanterns was the "Lorem ipsum" placeholder text in Ninjargon skjdsdgjdfk

Episode 2, I WAS SO surprised to see Nya meet Nyad, and then Nya remembering and finding the lighthouse! That was awesome! Sorta upset at how quickly things progressed but eh, whatever ig.

Episode's 3, 4, and the 5 were nice I s'pose, but they were KINDA slow (still loved them a lot, just found the pacing a tiny bit odd)!!

Episode 6 was really great just because I very much so love Aspheera (convicted Aspheera simp) and I LOVED watching how petty she was with Wu, and when she tried betraying the ninja. Also Nya Ninjago ofc vkdjbkjkgn

Episode 7 was nice and it was fun, watching the ninja have to deal with a buncha people they tossed into prison, a very fun scenario! Also really liked that ending with Vangelis! Also watching Lloyd try to find the "Kabuki Mask" person was p cool!

SIGH episode 8, I ADORED seeing the greatest ever Pythor P. Chumsworth and his very daring escape. Watching the ninja chasing him down was VERY fun as well. Loved seeing how Nya was struggling w/ herself and being powerless btw.

Episode 9 was good, esp watching the ninja escape. The car chase was cool, but it wasn't anything exceptional imo. Dareth's acting skills though? Very on point. My guy is a lawyer, master, bartender, TV host, AND a theater kid? Typical Dareth!

Episode 10, oH I LIKED THIS. This episode reminded me of Lego City Adventures, which I love to death! Sally was a very fun character and I loved how her own pain caused Zane to realize all emotions are important. Also really loved how Hounddog McBrag drove into a fucking stream like that, icon behavior dfbjkgfnjk

Episode 11 was just BlueJayshipping gaybait mixed with some Twitchy Tim SORTA Coming in clutch. BUT I really loved the fight against the Mechanic!! Really cool!

SIGH AND THEN WE HAVE EPISODE 12. WASN'T FUCKING READY FOR IT! THE SHITTY LLOYD DISGUISE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CRYSTAL KING, OH MY GOD! MR. F WAS AWESOME (despite only getting to shoot Lloyd) AND WOW WHAT A DYNAMIC THE VILLAINS HAVE. AND OH MY FUCKING GOD THE HARUMI REVEAL GOT ME, WHEN SHE STARTED SINGING, I FELT CHILLS.

ANYWAYS VERY EXCITED FOR THE NEXT 18 EPISODES. Also, wouldn't it be fucking hilarious if they just didn't give the Overlord any screen time until the last 6 episodes, just like they did with him in s2?

Also VERY hyped to see the Crystal King in canon, wanna draw him sm!!!

Vangelis, composer of Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner soundtracks, dies aged 79

Vangelis, the Greek composer and musician whose synth-driven work brought huge drama to film soundtracks including Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire, has died aged 79. His representatives said he died in hospital in France where he was being treated.

Born Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou in 1943, Vangelis won an Oscar for his 1981 Chariots of Fire soundtrack. Its uplifting piano motif became world-renowned, and reached No 1 in the US charts, as did the accompanying soundtrack album.

Mostly self-taught in music, Vangelis grew up in Athens and formed his first band in 1963, called the Forminx, playing the pop music of the time: uptempo rock’n’roll, sweeping ballads and Beatles cover versions, with Vangelis supplying organ lines.

They split in 1966, and Vangelis became a writer and producer for hire, working for other musicians and contributing scores for Greek films. Two years later, he struck out for Paris to further his career, where he formed the prog rock quartet Aphrodite’s Child with Greek expats including Demis Roussos. Their single Rain and Tears was a hit across Europe, topping the French, Belgian and Italian charts and reaching the UK Top 30.

After they split – Vangelis deeming the world of commercial pop “very boring” – he returned to scoring film and TV. Turning down an invitation to replace Rick Wakeman on keyboards in Yes, he moved to London and signed a solo deal with RCA Records: his LPs Heaven and Hell (1975) and Albedo 0.39 (1976) each reached the UK Top 40, the former also used to soundtrack Carl Sagan’s popular TV series Cosmos. The connection with Yes was finally completed later in the decade, when he teamed with the band’s Jon Anderson for the duo Jon and Vangelis, whose debut album went Top 5.

Vangelis had continued his film score work throughout the 1970s, but it was in the 1980s that this reached its commercial heights. Chariots of Fire became inextricable from Vangelis’s timeless theme, and the music became synonymous with slow-motion sporting montages. “My music does not try to evoke emotions like joy, love, or pain from the audience. It just goes with the image, because I work in the moment,” he later explained.

His score to Blade Runner is equally celebrated for its evocation of a sinister future version of Los Angeles, where robots and humans live awkwardly alongside one another, through the use of long, malevolent synth notes; saxophones and lush ambient passages enhance the film’s romantic and poignant moments. “It has turned out to be a very prophetic film – we’re living in a kind of Blade Runner world now,” he said in 2005.

Later in the decade he scored the Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins drama The Bounty, and the Mickey Rourke-starring Francesco. He worked again with the Blade Runner director, Ridley Scott, on 1992 film 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and elsewhere during the 1990s, soundtracked Roman Polanski’s Bitter Moon, and documentaries by Jacques Cousteau.

Vangelis drew on Greek instrumentation alongside the typical orchestras used in film scoring on Oliver Stone’s 2004 classical epic, Alexander.

His most recent score is for El Greco, a 2007 Greek biopic of the Renaissance painter. The Greek artist, who moved to Spain and acquired his nickname there, was much admired by Vangelis, who composed albums in 1995 and 1998 that were inspired by and named after him.

Continually celebrated for his evocative Chariots of Fire theme, he was also commissioned by sporting bodies to soundtrack major events, including the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, and the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He also wrote ballet scores and music for stage productions of Medea, The Tempest and other plays.

Solo releases remained steady alongside his commissioned work, and occasionally included collaborations with vocalists such as Paul Young.

A fascination with outer space found voice in 2016’s Rosetta, dedicated to the space probe of the same name, and Nasa appointed his 1993 piece Mythodea (which he claimed to have written in an hour) as the official music of the Mars Odyssey mission of 2001. His final album, 2021’s Juno to Jupiter, was inspired by the Nasa probe Juno and featured recordings of its launch and the workings of the probe itself in outer space.
