The first character I first fell in love with: 

Frieza. I only got into DBZ through the abridged series as a teen, and he was just so fucking great that I craved more, leading me to get into the original, and the rest is history.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: 

Also Frieza. My only exposure to him before I actually got into DBZ had been people complaining about him, either his lame, girly design or how dragged out the fight against him was, so I’d osmosed an idea of him as a lame, annoying, sissy villain? Which, no, he’s good actually. More detailed thoughts in this post. Also, to a lesser extent, Android 17, but *puts on hipster glasses* I liked him before it was cool.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: 

mmh, Cell I guess? He’s not as weak of a villain as Super Buu, but he just didn’t really do it for me as a final boss. He literally just stood in the arena for seven days waiting for the fight to come to him. That’s… not exactly a dynamic or interesting villain. Imperfect Cell was interesting, but he loses points for being butt fucking ugly.

The character I love that everyone else hates: 

Do Caulifla and Kale count? They’re not really universally hated so much as base breakers, but they’re great, fuck all y’all. I have Issues with their writing, but bad writing plagued that entire arc, and unlike Jiren at least they came out with actual personalities. I’m ever so slightly iffy about the yuribaiting, but considering DB as a whole barely even passed the bechdel test before these two, like, I’ll take it.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: 

Beerus, thanks to Super taking the absolute piss out of his character at every opportunity and power inflation doing him dirty. I still love him in Battle of Gods, though.

The character I would totally smooch: 

Vados. Also Frieza, though it probably wouldn’t exactly do wonders for my lifespan.

The character I’d want to be like:

The character I’d slap: 

ROSHI. Can he please just die good god

A pairing that I love: 

Goku/Frieza, thanks to the Tournament of Power, though definitely as more of a hateship/rivalry. On the redrom side of things, Gohan/Videl is absolutely fucking precious.

A pairing that I despise: 

HHHHHH I hate to say it out loud bc I know a few of my mutuals really like it, but… Gochi. It’s adorable in fanon, and I like it in OG dragonball, but I really, really don’t like their interactions in Z or Super. I believe that they love each other, but they come off as fundamentally incompatible due to their different values regarding love and family. They’re on different wavelengths, and don’t have any chemistry whatsoever. Moreover, Toriyama’s comments about Chichi basically being a nagging wife joke strike me as kind of sexist, and overall I’m just tired of the shitty het marriage tropes at play between them.
