~ The essential playlist - 3ème saison, 7ème épisode : Dj Rhythm and Hues.

Lundi prochain, le 9 décembre de 9h à 11h sur les ondes de CKUT 90.3 FM !

Établi à Montréal depuis 2007, Parker Mah (alias Dj Rhythm and Hues), né à Vancouver et globe-trotter, est un artiste aux multiples facettes qui a grandi dans un contexte artistique, prenant des cours de piano depuis son plus jeune âge. De nous jours, Rhythm and Hues a lancé deux œuvres impressionnantes, The Live EP (2013) et Con mar y rio (2015). Le Live EP (2013) c'est du jazz expérimental au sommet de sa forme avec des compositions de Parker qui a joué également des claviers, de la cajita et des percussions. Voix extraordinaire de Sarah Linhares. Con mar y rio (2015), enregistré entre Barranquilla (Colombie) et Montréal (Québec) est une exploration entre le style "free" jazz de Rhythm and Hues et les rythmes afro caribéens, incluant des artistes aux trajectoires remarquables parmi le univers culturel de la côte atlantique colombien.

Parker est également un sélecteur de musique au-delà de toute frontière, collectant des textures et des couleurs partout dans le monde, y compris en Afrique, où Parker part à la chasse des allez-retour de la salsa entre la région des Caraïbes et l'Afrique. Gourou du dancefloor, Rhythm and Hues est également co-fondateur de Tumbao, un collectif de Dj qui cherche à préserver et promouvoir le patrimoine musical de l'Afrique, de l'Amérique latine et de la région des Caraïbes. Producteur multimédia, curateur, éducateur et leader du dialogue multiculturelle dans la société Canadienne, Rhythm and Hues relie les cultures à travers l'art et la musique !

~The essential playlist - 3rd season, 7th episode: Dj Rhythm and Hues ~

Next Monday, December 9th from 9 am to 11 am at CKUT 90.3 FM !

Established in Montreal since 2007, Vancouver born and globe-trotting Parker Mah (aka Dj Rhythm and Hues) is a multi-faceted artist that grew up in an artistic context, taking piano lessons since a very young age. Nowadays, Rhythm and Hues has launched two impressive works The Live EP (2013) and Con mar y rio (2015). The Live EP (2013) is experimental jazz at his best with compositions by Parker who also played keys, cajita and percussion. Extraordinary vocals by Sarah Linhares. Con mar y rio (2015), recorded between Barranquilla (Colombia) and Montreal (Quebec) is an exploration between Rhythm and Hues' free jazz style and Afro Caribbean beats, including artists with large trajectories among the Colombian Caribbean culture.

Parker is also a music selector beyond borders, collecting textures and colours all over the world including Africa, where Parker has been chasseing the Salsa back and forwards between the Caribbean region and Africa. Dance floor guru, Rhythm and Hues is also co-founder of Tumbao a Dj collective that search to preserve and promote the musical heritage of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean region. Multimedia producer, curator, educator and leader of multicultural dialogue in Canadian society, Rhythm and Hues bounds cultures together through art and music !

After the great success of ~The essential playlist ~ during 2021, Latin Music Mondays - CKUT 90.3 FM will continue during 2022 receiving artists from all over the world to share a list of essential songs with our public, so please lock your radio next Monday March 28th from 9 to 11 am at www.ckut.ca to celebrate the International Women Month and enjoy the launching of ~ The essential playlist 2nd season ~ with our international guest Francisca Valenzuela ! Francisca will offer to us a special selection of female artists that inspire her and that are an example for future generations ! ~ The essential playlist ~ is a 60 m free space (or more if necessary) where the artists can show a list of songs that are special for them. They can be songs of any musical genre or era and that have remained essential in the musical memory of the artist. They can also be songs made by the artist himself (because they marked his career, marked the sound of the band, hits, etc). Reserve your date to participate any 2nd, 3trd or 4th Monday of each month, starting from March 2022 until December 2022 by writing to lmm.ckut@gmail.com. You can also propose an artist to participate with us, just drop a line !

We will also hold our Annual Funding Drive: "CKUT 'Til Infinity - March 17th to 27th" so be ready to express your love and solidarity with Latin Music Mondays and CKUT 90.3 FM ! Each penny will help us to deliver more alternative and underground music ! Since 1995, Latin Music Mondays airs the musical diversity coming from South America and its diaspora, no matter the musical gender. We are a Global ("World") program.

Either funny or painful times, we always have an essential playlist ! The first two weeks of The essential playlist had been a great success ! Latin Music Mondays had received numerous of welcoming from all over the world coming from a very happy public, but also from very happy artists who were long missing the more basic: play and share ! Monday April 12th:

In this first edition of The essential playlist, Bial Hclap (Mexico) presented  the EP Sierra Madre (Himno solar, Las lunas, Tus ojos tranquilos, Sierra madre, Fuerza y Tus Latidos ) that he has produced and that he considers essential for his career. Doing this EP Bial Hclap did discover both the Mexican history and the history of his family. So starting a new path in music after Sierra Madre, the artist also shared his new singles: Meru, Luces, Chaneque, Bilangilangi, Montañera and Me dejo llevar.

In this second edition of The essential playlist, Dj Killjoy (Canada) presents the songs that she considers essential for her formation as a Dj, as well as the artist explains her journey from childhood in a family full of artists, through animating the parties in the neighbourhood and until today's days where she is a Dj with an unequalled trajectory and co-host in the Rumba Mundial radio show at CIBL 101,5.
