The Everest Base Camp trek is about to get better with your flight to Lukla! Get ready to enjoy incredible views of the Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan mountain ranges. Lukla Airport, also known as Tenzing Hillary Airport, is located on top of a cliff with a huge drop at the end of the runway directly to the bottom of the valley. The Everest Base Camp Trek takes you from the village of Lukla which is at an elevation of approximately 2860 meters in a ten-day hike to the Mount Everest Base Camp at an elevation of 5400 meters. The Everest journey begins with a 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. For many people, this will be the smallest plane they have ever flown and an exciting start to the journey. This flight takes us to the Khumbu region in Nepal. The planes flying to Lukla from Kathmandu do not have a radar system on board, so they cannot take, they are told that the weather conditions are suitable where we will land. Because of this, long delays occur regularly. Along the streets of Lukla it is common to see porters offering their services. But most hikers visiting the area would have already arranged them. Considering the remote location, the town and the skies can be surprisingly busy. Among the planes carrying tourists, you can see army and rescue helicopters at the airport. Luka has a variety of shops and lodges where one can have basic western style meals and pick up any last-minute items for trekking or climbing. There are many restaurants in Lukla, so you can eat before starting your first day of hiking. A typical menu in Lukla will have a wide variety of foods such as fried rice, noodles, soup, pizza, momo, breakfast cereals, hot and cold drinks, and most of the junk food you can get at home. Hikers generally try to avoid eating meat from here as there is no cold storage and the possibility of an upset stomach is very high.

How Likely Is It For My Lukla Flight To Get Cancelled Or Postponed? Does It Happen Often?

Lukla flight inconsistency is a major problem for all hikers planning Everest base camp hike or other hikes starting in Lukla. The flight schedule is mainly affected by weather conditions. It is often due to turbulent weather and poor visibility conditions. This can cause your plan to go off schedule. Flights to Lukla are not always guaranteed to be on time and on time. It totally depends on the weather conditions and is not under the control of your trekking operator or the airlines. It is understandable that, for safety reasons, on a bad weather day, flights do not take off. This is a serious problem and all your planning will fall apart if you don't take note of this.
