not gonna lie, when goncharov first started cropping up in my feed i thought we were all talking about the Russian author Ivan Goncharov and i was getting excited thinking folks had rediscovered the 1980 soviet adaptation of Oblomov which totally slaps, and i was really disappointed this wasn’t the case, because Oblomov, the 19th-century novel, is about a man (called Oblomov lol) who lies in bed all day and refuses to take any decision or do anything too strenuous with his life and if that’s not THE tumblr story to romanticize and create fanart around i don’t know what is! 

the novel also has an interesting love triangle, and you can very much speculate on oblomov’s relationship with his much more active half-German BFF called andrey (i’m pretty sure there’s an andrey in the made-up goncharov too!) because andrey tries to save him from his inactive, dissolute life, and he seems the only one who can reach oblomov, but ultimately, he gives up on his friend and ends up marrying the woman oblomov loved. like!!! all the elements are there!! oh to live in the alternate timeline where this was tumblr’s new obsession
