I wanted to post something regarding (don’t say it too loudly...) Quartz. I started my journey in Watch appreciation with quartz watches and once I discovered the wonders of automatic watches, completely dismissed quartz as somehow inferior. I’m not the first and not the last person to do this btw. My watch snobbery continued unabated, overlooking anything with a once a second tick until I read about the Seiko 9F quartz movement used in the Grand Seiko line. I was blown away by the level of craftsmanship and technology crammed into this movement and had to have one. This opened the floodgates for quartz appreciation to me and I started to explore the vintage Seiko movements that led to this mechanical (quartz regulated) masterpiece. From the thermo compensated twin quartz movements of the 70s, through the 7a series (the first analogue display quartz chronographs) to this 7548 Diver. I can now come out of the horological closet and say loud “I love quartz and I’m proud!” Don’t get me wrong, I will always prefer a mechanical hand wind or automatic movement. But I have a healthy respect for the innovation and technological advances that have led to what is now a cheap, “inferior” entry level method of timekeeping. I no longer look down on quartz watches , in fact I think everyone should have one (or more) in their collection alongside. New watch alert. In my original intro for the new SPB143, I told Seiko to "Shut up and take my money". Well, here it is. I had to go through Japan to get it (thus it is an SBDC101) but this killer new 40.5mm diver is on wrist.

To cover the non-stop DM's: It's about 13.5mm thick to my measure, 47.6mm lug to lug, has 20mm drilled lugs, the bezel is brushed steel and feels great, lume is bright, it wears really well, and the NATO in the image is (as always) from

. No, I've not so much as unwrapped the bracelet (I will for the review) but can confirm that it sings on a vintage Tropic rubber.

in the near future but my initial impression is that this is the Seiko I've always wished that they would make. Furthermore, it is nothing short of a thrill to reconnect with my roots in watch appreciation and wait (impatiently) for a rad Seiko dive watch from the other side of the world. .
