read a book that had a similar moment to a previous book I ranted about here except this one handled it soooooo much better it was chef's kiss there was groveling and talking and processing just CHEF'S KISS mwuah love it
also this book was about serial killers of serial killers falling in love and there was a Leatherface knockoff and a Hannibal Lecter knockoff AND it referenced my favorite Katee Robert book (so far) so, yeah, potential favorite of the year
plus it reminded me of Dating & Dismemberment to an extent which is always a plus imo

I know I'm not super deep into Predator/AVP fandom but even still, AVP: Thicker Than Blood feels like a gross mischaracterization of the yautja and also decided that since one of the main characters was a synthetic it was fine for the other one to basically physically abuse them?? I get she was freaking out but she showed nothing besides nastiness and contempt for him in the (admittedly very limited) time before the shit hit the fan - but it's okay really they love each other it's just typical sibling stuff...yeahhh...the plot was interesting and there's potential, but for a simple idea, it still felt far too rushed in just four issues. like an hour's worth crammed into ten minutes.

something about sex and gender in a particular monsterfucker series always has me...slightly on edge. and idk if i'm being too suspicious and uneducated and judgmental or if there's legitimate cause for concern. it sucks because while this series has some flaws, the stuff that works for me really works.

the way women in fiction so easily forgive their love interests who literally undermine and undercut every positive thing they've done or said to the woman when they attack the woman's deepest fears and insecurities all to "protect her" but are actually just trying to control her in their own way
(usually because the plot then forces them into danger/big plot reveal/high tension that overrides their interpersonal drama which the author/creator uses to force them to reconciliation without the incident and its damage being properly acknowledged and processed)
is exhausting

DNF'd Ghostland by Duncan Ralston.
I tried. I really tried.
The plot sounded fun, the cover art was killer, but between the writing itself (not the content) coming across like reading something for the junior high crowd, moments of extreme stupidity from supposedly super smart characters, and too much tonal whiplash, I just couldn't keep going.
You really can't judge a book by its cover.

reading From Below by Darcy Coates and it is definitely the most unsettling and disturbing book of hers I've read so far. the tension and dread that just never. stops. building. it's almost as claustrophobic as its setting. normally I have hope for our main characters in her works but not this time.

Haunting Adeline is one of those books where I'm so sick of seeing it and hearing about it in the dark romance book scene that I don't want to read it
but I'm so intrigued also in the backlash that has built up against it and the author that I kind of do?

I'm reading Darcy Coates' Gravekeeper series and it is just, so delightful. Ticking off so many of my cozy horror/haunting boxes I am just so in love.

finished a book that was very much for my Id and was self indulgent junk food and it was enjoyable but the age of the FMC nearly ruined it for me. she was wayyyyyy too young for someone in her position, she definitely read as at least a few years older, and it made a plot twist reveal about another character FUCKING RIDICULOUS to the degree it almost stopped me from finishing.

see my problem is, I want to read all the Predator related novels, but then I get attached to so many of the yautja and I get very Distraught when bad things happen.
