Today’s message is to acknowledge signs from loved ones (HEART) who have passed (DEATH). When we consider STRANGE in this equation, we’re told to expect the unexpected. Many of us have had a spiritual experience that we consider to be a visit or message from the deceased. And many more have had those experiences, but the signs were so subtle that they overlooked them while awaiting an obvious encounter of the fully corporeal ghost appearing at the foot of the bed. While I’m not going to say that a ghost at the foot of your bed is impossible, I will say that the chances are better that your dearly departed are reaching out from beyond the veil in much less dramatic ways. There are lots of stories of finding “pennies from heaven” from the loved one’s birth year, or their favorite song coming on the radio as you’re thinking of them. I find that sometimes, people get so caught up in how they think it *should* happen, that they miss when it really *does* happen. Here’s a big clue: if you think something is a sign from the departed, it probably is! Take note of these times and you may start to see a pattern emerge. It’s sort of like learning a new symbolic language of communication. If you use divinatory tools like runes or tarot, you will already be familiar with this form of communication - a symbol meant to represent a thought, feeling, action, time, etc. The more you practice this, the more you’ll start to understand. It’s no surprise that the DEATH bone was pulled again, indicating a need to put some things to rest during the season where earthly things die off - a nod to follow the lead of nature. FLORA today is representative of roots - the base and beginning. MIND is our thoughts, ideas and beliefs. We all have issues that we think we’ve dealt with, only to find out later that they’ve grown back like the zombie plant you forgot to water that regenerates somehow, only to appear to die off again at the first sign of neglect. That zombie plant has hardy roots, hidden in the dark soil, that are able to sustain life, much like destructive thoughts that we sometimes unwittingly nurture that are implanted in our mind. It’s time for a culling of the roots of outright destructive thoughts (self doubt, insecurities, lack of self worth, etc) that lead to destructive actions. Think of the worst thing that you say to yourself. That thought has a stem that leads back to the root of that thought. Can you follow it backwards to when and where that thought first formed? Was the seed planted by an external source, like a comment made by another person, or were you the one that planted the seed? What nurtured that seed to germinate and grow? What continues to fertilize that thought? Why haven’t you weeded it out yet? The Spirits are telling us to not just mow it down to ground level, but remove it from its source at the root so it can’t grow back again. The Spirits seem to find this message one of import as of late, so take heed! FLOW is exactly as it seems - to go with the flow - not swim against the tides and fight fate. SEEKER is pointing to each of us as individuals, meaning we are to FLOW by following our own unique path of destiny. FAMILIAR today is referencing what comes naturally and instinctually. MASK is about deception or illusion, and when combined with AIR, the element of communication, it is about making sure our message is clear. Miscommunication and misunderstandings happen so easily. Sometimes the problem is in how we said it. Sometimes the problem is in how they heard it. We aren’t responsible for how other people interpret our message, since it will be filtered through their own biases, experiences, and feelings, but we can make this process less confusing if we say what we mean and mean what we say as precisely and clearly as possible. Communication is not just what words come out of our mouth. It’s tone, inflection, body language. It’s “vibe” and energy. Have you ever asked someone if they’re ok and they snap at you and say “Yes! I’m fine!”, but their vibe and body language says “Nooooo!”. So how are we to proceed in that situation? Believe them and carry on? Leave them alone, because clearly they don’t want to talk about it? Confront them about snapping at us? Pressure them to open up? Well, it’s complicated, and there’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. Ground your excess mental energy with some centering and grounding techniques. Do something creative. The Spirits chose STRANGE, SPIRIT, and FLORA from The Madame’s Bone Oracle this morning. Today’s message is about the balance of power - the poison and the cure - both powerful aspects, two sides of the same coin. The image that accompanied today’s bone casting was of poisonous plants (STRANGE/FLORA) - beautiful yet deadly. We often talk about the SPIRIT of the plant (FLORA) in herbalism or Green Witchcraft - like a plant’s personality and attitude. All living things are imbued with a unique essence - the SPIRIT that differentiates them from inanimate objects. Foxglove’s SPIRIT commands respect - not because it’s scary and ugly, but because it’s graceful and powerful. In microdose amounts, Foxglove can regulate your heart (cure). A tiny dose more and it will kill you (poison). Belladonna’s SPIRIT commands respect - not because it’s overbearing and forceful, but because it’s beautiful and alluring. In a miniscule amount, Belladonna is used as a sedative or to dilate your pupils for your eye for an exam (cure). A bit more and you’re in trouble (poison). It is about respecting the power of these plants, and knowing how to wield this power that makes the difference. Commanding respect isn’t about hierarchy or control of others. It’s a side effect of self respect and boundaries, and gracefully extending that respect and being respectful of others’ boundaries. You can be sure that poisonous plants have boundaries, and they will let you know it quickly if you try to cross that boundary. Unfortunately, many people equate power with fear, and mistake fear for respect. If you wield your power by instilling fear in others, be aware that fear is a tool that renders itself useless under the pressure of knowledge. Poisonous plants can be scary until you gain more knowledge and understand their SPIRIT, which then inspires lifelong respect for them.
