Happy Witchcore Samantha Wednesday!

For those of you who are new here, this orginally stemmed from my obsession with Sam Winchester and Sastiel in the Supernatural fandom, and in an attempt to provide Sam a better life, I created an AU with a transgender MtF witchcore Samantha, a genderfluid cottagecore beekeeper/gardener Castiel, and non-binary toddler Jack Kline.

New audiences call for a slight change in direction, and while Samantha, Cas, Jack, and I are still available to answer questions about the family, Witchcore Samantha Wednesdays will now be focusing on making moodboards that fit the cottagecore and witchcore vibe. Sorry I had to go looking through old emails to find the lists sent to me, the fiction section is my personal rec list of books I'm reading and authors I love. I always always insist anyone who wants to write Indigenous characters in their stories need to read Indigenous authors. Not just to show support, but you’ll not find a better teacher on ensuring you're not falling into racist tropes and tokenizing your characters than by surrounding yourself with beloved stories and characters from that demographic.

For non fiction I've separated culture, language, and lore from the ones that focus on regions, historical events, wars, and people.

I know I'm missing books, but I was sent a lot of recs in private messages I can't track down. Generally if you see a book by these three authors they are the #1 recommended resource from everyone I've spoken with.

Polaris "Music from the Adventures of Pete & Pete" LP. when Pete & Pete came out originally, I was of prime viewing age. Until at least 1995 I just assumed The Flaming Lips did the theme song "Hey Sandy" for the show. This is a great album and it was recorded well too. I was listening at a moderately loud volume, but nothing absurd and sometimes the low end would just subtly rip through me. It was pretty alright. A fun fact about "Hey Sandy": a little over 10 years ago I wanted to hear it so I looked it up on YouTube and there was this weird punked up cover by this band I'd never heard of called Tera Melos. Not only did they go on to become one of my favorite bands of this century, I also can't help but sing "God only knows what I'd be with out you" during the musical interlude as that's what Tera Melos did and it fits perfectly. Now that I think about it, it's kind of interesting some of my favor bands band leaders (Nick Reinhart from Tera Melos and Joe Queer of The Queers) are big Beach Boys fans and I'm a big Beach Boys fan. Today's moodboard is all about Imbolc! Imbolc is a traditional gaelic fire festival that marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Also called St. Brigid's Day, this celebration occurs on Febuary 1st-2nd and focuses on honoring Brigid, the patroness of Ireland in both pagan and christian beliefs. In Wiccan culture, the goddess Brigid and the rituals surrounding Imbolc are vastly complex and intricately beautiful. I suggest looking up more information online if you're interested. I've included some simple ways to celebrate your own Imbolc above! Have a fun and blessed feast!
