I don’t remember why I hated „The Rainbowfish“ it just made me really sad for some reason, but I was SO convinced it was my mothers favorite book at the time 😂

Response Number One -
I remember clear as day the book, ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister. Each time the teacher read it, all students were actively involved and engrossed in the reading. We would make comments throughout including, “I wouldn’t want to be his friend” and “Why won’t he just share his scales with the other fish?”. I always remembered feeling sad for all of the other fish and angry at the Rainbow Fish for being so selfish. Little did I know I was learning one of my most valuable life lessons. By the end of the book I had; reflected on my own actions in social situations and learnt that having everything you want doesn’t always mean you’re happy and that sharing and being kind goes a long way.
My most memorable learning experiences were ones in which were not explicitly taught, often through the use of books. In my future teaching practices, I will use children’s literature to teach both explicit and non-explicit material, making learning more meaningful, enjoyable and less of a chore for students. Still to this day, 12 years later, I remember and live by many of the life lessons that various texts taught me. That is what I want for my students.

"I was young and love to me was a fuse that was lit, not a garden that was grown. Love was not concerned with any deep knowledge of its object, of their wants and dreams, but mainly with the joy felt in their presence and the sickness felt in their departure." - Ta-Nehisi Coates(The Water Dancer) 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 Bought these a few months back. I haven't read the water dancer yet but it is on my list to read next. I bought the rainbow fish for my baby nephew and he loved it when I read it to him. 😁💙 #thewaterdancer #tanehisicoates #lightfiltersin #carolinekaufman #poems #love #therainbowfish #marcuspfister #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #goodreads #bookstagrammer #photography #booknerd #bookworm #read #booksofinstag #instabooks #bookaddict https://www.instagram.com/p/B_f-bcngvKl/?igshid=1vfqthsnf3onf

"The Rainbow Fish shared his scales left end right. And the more he gave away, the more delighted he became. When the water around him filled with glimmering scales, he at last felt at home among the other fish."

We just want to keep all the great ideas to ourselves in the fear that someone will steal them. We never want to share the knowledge we have because we fear they will be smarter. But just reimagine if you shared everything you knew? It would be all brilliant heads in one space. The energy would reverberate and make you feel like a part of a community. #the100dayproject #100daysofbattlinginnerdemons #therainbowfish

Discussion Section 4 (5/24/17.P3.TheRainbowFish)
Today we continued our discussion of Shaun Tan's, The Arrival. We focused on part 4 during our class period and met with each other to talk about our opinions and thoughts on the book. In the beginning of this part the man is awaken by his creature and has a breakfast of strange fruit. They then set out to search for a job it seems. The creature acts as a companion and occupanies the man on his trip to find a job. He comes across various jobs but tries each one and they aren't right for him. Along the way he meets new people who tell him their immigration stories and why they came to this strange plaice. At last the man finds a sustainable job in a factory that he can manage and likes. In this part, the "assigned" creatures seem to be a big part of the story. Each person has their own creature and they follow and help their human, much like a pet in today's world would. -Sophie Omafray, Evie Bass, Lauren Matich, Kayhan Nejat, Lukas Keeling
