Style Q&As from the old SkinsLife website
Hi guys! In my search to find the striped hoodie Cassie wears at the end of her series 1 episode, I found the old SkinsLife website, where Edward Gibbon (the costume designer) did his Q&As before they moved over to the e4 website.  Unfortunately, not all of it has been archived, but there’s a lot of good stuff about where the series 2 costumes come from, and a ton of questions about Cassie’s clothes.
Here’s what I could find.  I’ll put all of the Cassie questions at the top and then all of the other ones under a cut:
-------------------------------
Hellie Cory: Can you please tell me where they got Cassie's skirt?? I absolutely love it and I've been searching for ages with no luck : (
Edward: Cassie's skirt is from a small Japanese designer in Camden (and well spotted Olivia xx the fabric is from Ikea.)
-------------------------------
TanitaAlethia: Im so happy about this. I have always wanted a nice, not sexy (like in costumes shops, there gross) little sailor outfit. When Cassi had one on, i almost fell of my chair, i love love LOVE it. So i was wondering, where an earth did you fined it? Thankyou =] Tanita-Alethia
Edward: Cassie's sailor top was from New York, but you can always try an Army Surplus store or maybe Camden if you're anywhere near London. Let me know how you get on!
------------------------------- evil_daisys: hey, i wasnt sure where to put this,, but were did you find the dress cassie wore in episode 1 of season one at the party? and episode 2 of season one she wore at michelles? i love the way she dresses its so cute and girly and still slightly different =)
Edward: Both of Cassies dresses were vintage pieces from the 60s and 50s respectively - keep your eye out wherever you are and never turn down an invite to a jumble sale ! -------------------------------
AmyyB: hi edward, can you please tell me where cassies pink chiffon top and grey socks that she wears in chris' episode? thanks sweetheart keep up the good work x
Edward: cassies' chiffon top was from Top Shop and the socks are from H&M.; --------------------------------------
maxine: heya, i was just wondering where cassie's bow t-shirt is from, from the latest advert? ♥x
Edward: cassie's bow t-shirt was from TopShop ------------------------------------------------
Franchesca Allen: Hi im really into weird and unusual style and i love cassie's. I was wondering if you could tell me where you get most of her clothes. And i was wondering in series 2 effy's episode whats she wearing with the leopard skin tights, what top is it? Please reply i've wrote before and got no reply :) Thanks and keep up the amazing brainstorms with the costumes xx
Edward: Cassies clothes are from all over the place ! Her style is a mixture of amazing vintage pieces, charity shop finds, vintage designer stuff and high street sale stuff (normally the things no one else wants ! ) The top you are talking about was a vintage nylon 'teddy'(an all in one , shorts and top underwear item ). This year she has been wearing a lot of underwear as outerwear so keep your eyes peeled in charity shops and don't be afraid to rummage through dead peoples' clothes! ------------------------------------------------
rachey_babey: hi can you please tell me where cassies gold high hees are from that she's wearing when she spills the milk and could you please tell me where the dress / nightdress cassie wore when she was sitting on the couch with chris and watching telly is from? i think it was white with a green or blue rim. ta.
Edward: Cassie's gold shoes are character shoes from a dance shop , customised with gold leaf and cassie's nightdress was a plain cream dress from H&M; which we customised with green lace ------------------------------- sarinda: hello, i really love cassie's style, i love going to jumble sales and charity shops looking for vintage finds so its really great that there is someone like that on tv. i was wondering where you got cassie's red skirt and gold shoes when she is at her exam? and also where her bra if from when she is getting dressed before that. thank you xx =]
Edward: Thanks, Sarinda. Cassie's skirt was Prada, shoes from Bertie and bra from M&S...;
------------------------------------------------
Lauren Jones: Hey I was hoping you could please tell me where Casie's night dress with the skeleton on it is from?? I have been looking everywhere and cant even find something similar! I would love to know where I could get one from please x
Edward: Cassie's skeleton dress was from TopShop Unique. It's probably not available any more, I'm afraid, but keep looking - you never know! ------------------------------------------------ Leelee: Helloo! My question is regarding the reaons behind Cassie's rapid change in clothing style in episode 9 when she arrives in NYC. At first I simply assumed it was to make her seem more vagrant looking, as though she was wearing simply what she grabbed in the dash. But then in the last scene of the episode, she is running down the street and is in another compltely out of character outfit, and wondered that would she really have all these clothes that she just never wears? Was there any specific reason as to this change? Thanks!
Edward: By the time we see Cassie in NYC she has been on the road for a while and grabbed clothes wherever she finds them , if they don't seem quite like what she normally wears that's because of what she has been through and the clothes she goes running in are Adams - see clothes tell a story as well ! ------------------------------------------------ asdfghjklxx: hii i was just wondering if you could tell me where cassies boots and jeans were from that she was wearing in the last episode when she arrives in new york, also where is the red and white candy striped skirt that she wears with the bow tshirt in her exam from? thanksss xxx
Edward: The jeans are from Uniqlo and then distressed, the boots from a Charity shop and the skirt by Prada
------------------------------------------------
meli_x: In the latest episode where was cassies t shirt with the bow on from and the socks she was wearing with that outfit (when she was in the exam). also her hairclip with two robins in (i think) and the necklace with the trophy on and her stripy dress from when she met chris' mom thanks :) x
Edward: the t-shirt was from TopShop, socks from Noa Noa and the birds were christmas decorations from a craft shop... ------------------------------------------------
Sara: Hey Edward, any chance you could tell me where Cassie's necklace (the cup/trophy) that she wears throughout ep. 9 is from? Thank you very much, loving your work!
Edward: Cassie's necklace was made from a piece of ribbon and an old badge from a Vintage Fair. It said 'victory' on it, if that helps. ------------------------------------------------
Danni: hey, i was wandering where cassies big blue jacket/coat was from, the one where she first arrives in new york? thankyou :)
Edward: Cassie's jacket was a vintage American College jacket - which was worn by Chris in the last series on the school trip to Russia, adding a nice bit of continuity ! ------------------------------------------------
rachael tallentire: hey 2 thngs i want to know where is cassies skeleton dress/nightie she wears in the last episode and also where is her top she wears for her exam from?
Edward:- both are from TopShop Unique range...
And a few Effy questions as well:
Munchkin: Where is the dress Effy wore to the rave in episode 1 series 2 from? i absolutely love her style, you dress her amazingly, it matches her personality exactly. please show us more of effie she is immense!!
Edward: Effy's rave dress was made by customising 2 dresses: one from Oasis and the other a vintage one from a charity shop...
------------------------------------------------
Michelle123: I hope this doesn't sound pervy but where is Effy's underwear from when she is in her room with Sid? x
Edward: Effy's underwear was from Primark and M&S; !
------------------------------------------------
larry the lady: Must, must, must know where Effy's jeans or leggins or what ever are from. i could die happy if i could get a pair. I'm on about the large striped black and white ones. XD oh and where would effy's character typically shop for her rave clothing. Love love love xxx P.s the black and white striped jean things, remember, we want them!! lol
Edward: Effy's jeans were from phunky phish/ Effy loves shopping in unexpected places - other peoples houses / old ladies wardrobes / her gran's charity bag and then she customises with scissors and a blowtorch !
------------------------------------------------
Other costume questions:
Pascha Rix: I really loved the gorgeous white shorts that Michele was wearing once in a club scene when she was dancing up against two other guys. The shorts were tiny, white and with pink sequins on them and they were absolutely gorgeous! Where do you also tend to look for other clothes she wears? Are there particular shops you goto?
Edward: The skirt's from Top shop but you can make your own if you like: hack off a pair of old jeans as high as you dare and then cover randomly with sequins...
------------------------------------------------
Kris Jones: I'd just like to know whether ALL the actors' clothes are chosen by stylists, or do some of them get to wear their own stuff? Do you even choose their pants?
Edward: Pretty much everything they wear is chosen by me - especially their pants and socks; they play an important part in defining their characters.....
------------------------------------------------
Savethesoundsystem: I wanna know where sid's yellow/orange nikes and the headphones t-shirt are from in episode 3! Oh and chris' flags of the world jacket!
Edward: Mike's trainers are retro Waffle by Nike, the headphone t- shirt is by 77 and the Flag Jacket was a rare vintage find.
------------------------------------------------
Ben Smith: Hi, the trainers maxxie's wearing in ep2 when hes taking off his superman costume.. where are they from? And the luminous yellow stripey tshirt in ep 3? Cheers.
Edward: Ben Smith - Maxxies' trainers are Nike Air Force hi-tops and his T- shirt was from Top Man.
------------------------------------------------

And i would like to know where did you get the stuff (shoes, shirt, jacket, everything...) he was wearing when he came to sit on the grass with Anwar and Michelles stepsister?? Edward: thomas and everyone else - Chris' wasted British Youth is by Unconditional (available from Concrete and Selfridges ) and would love to see some fucked up French Style! put some up in your profile so we can see... ------------------------------------------------

Edward: Tony's yellow belt was a ladies' belt from Gap ! and Toby's waistcoat is a period early 20th. century piece from an antique clothing market (try Blind Lemon's website for similar fairs ) ------------------------------------------------ Bapo: Hi Edward, I am wondering where you found Sid's military jacket that he wears in the Secret Party special episode... Much love from France to all the Skins family!

Edward: Maxxie's hat was from H&M; ------------------------------------------------ Maciej: Hello Edward. I have trouble with shoes. I was just wondering if you could give me some advice. I like Maxxie's style, but I still don't know what should I pick. The clothes I mostly wear are from American Eagle (ae.com), no ripped jeans though. I don't think ripped jeans look nice. I also don't wear baggy jeans. I'm 6'2" and kind of skinny (pant size: 30x34 or 31x34). My shoe size is 12.5. So I'm big, skinny guy with big feet. I have no sense in how a shoe should match. I was just wondering if you could tell me what would look best on my feet from a brand like Nike, Puma, or one I could easily get in Chicago area. Btw. love watching Skins :-) Thanks.
Edward: the best look for fairly big feet is the plainest styles of trainers - good old Converse are a safe choice, mess it up with some of the great colours they do . Old school trainers like Nike Tennis shoes or their retro Waffle style / addidas gazelle or stan Smiths . Swear is a British label that does great very flat plain trainers with a twist - they have a brilliant new collection in collaboration with Hummel . So basically the plainer and flatter the better, avoid anything with chunky soles and too much detailing . ------------------------------------------------ HaydenWing: hi Edward, could you please tell me where can i get Maxxie's bag in Ep. 8 when he comes into the classroom with James. Thankies!
Edward: Maxxie's bag is by Freitag , who make great bags from recycled materials like tyres ,seat belts and inner tubes ------------------------------------------------ Chris Murray: Hey Edward, cheers for looking :) Could you tell me where Chris' tiger skin pink and black top is from, the one he's wearing in Episode 2? Its the coolest thing I've seen him wear!!
Edward: Chris's tiger t-shirt is from Behave on Lexington Street ------------------------------------------------ windinthewire: please can you say where jal got her giraffe earings from, i love them and reaaaally want a pair!
Edward: Jal's earings were from TopShop ------------------------------------------------ AlexGabriel: Hiya. I'd like to know where Maxxie's grey trousers are from, the ones he wears when he comes into the classroom with James.
Edward: Maxxie's trousers were from Cos ------------------------------------------------ trainstobrasil: could you please tell me what Jal's book bag is in episode 8 this season? the lovely yellow one with the design that she carries around throughout the episode. I loved it! thanks :)
Edward: Jal's bag is by Eastpak ------------------------------------------------
Abby Fletcher: hey, just wondered where jal's yellow dress with the black shirt underneath came from, and the earrings she has in in the audition! thanks much! xx
Edward: Jal's yellow dress was from Monsoon and the brown shirt underneath was Calvin Klein Jeans ------------------------------------------------ Jerry: Hi, I was just wondering what bag Tony wears in season 1, it looks like a Gucci bag but I never get a good look at it. The name of it would be swell!
Edward: Tony's bag was an unbranded one from Camden Market ------------------------------------------------ verity: hey, wondering where michelle's silver vest in tonights episode came from. and her vests in general :) then i just need to wait for some warmer weather..! thanks
Edward: Michelle's silver vest was from Kate Moss for Top Shop - her vests are from all over , American Apparel is great for brilliant coloured basics made in ethical factories ( much better for your conscience and the world than Primark !)
Episode 7
------------------------------------------------
moppet: Hey Edward, I just want to say I think the overall look of the characters in the show is amazing so whatever you are doing with the wardrobe you are doing it extremely well! I hate to be the 1,000,000,000th person to ask you this but...in Michelle's episode (Series 2, Episode 4) she wears a pair of skirt dungarees or a skirt with braces made of denimn. I would love it if you could tell me where you found it? Or where I could find a similar item? I know several people have already asked you on this about it. I would really appreciate it if you could get back to us about it. It would actually mean a lot! much love, moppet xx
Edward: Really sorry but can't actually remember what label Michelle's dungaree skirt was - it was a TKMaxx find - but try Lees new stuff designed by Jane Birkin for something silmilair ------------------------------------------------ HarrietBABESS: Hi, i was wondering if you could please tell me where michelle's necklace is from in her lost weeks diary, the black bow one, and effy's dress she wears to the club in series 2 episode 7? I would really love to know where to get them. Thanks
Edward: Michelles necklace was from Warehouse and Effy's dress was created from a vintage beaded dress , customised over another dress from Oasis - so sharpen those scissors and start creating ! ------------------------------------------------ geodude: hi i was just wondering if you could tell me wer you get the majority of chris' vest tops from i just think there so good that i have to have one especially this one!! thanks XD
Edward: a lot of Chris' vests are 70s deadstock - original stuff that was never sold - from markets and vintage shops - try some of the retro stalls in Camden or local car boot sales ------------------------------------------------ christian20: Hey I was just wondering if you could tell me where Maxxie's jacket is from that he wore at the skins secret party??? thanx
Edward: Maxxies' rowing blazer was hired from a Bristol Costume Shop and is probably about 100 years old - still looks good doesn't it , just goes to show great style never goes out of fashion . ------------------------------------------------
alex: hi edward, i've been spending my internet millions on some new clothes recently. can i tell everyone about them? (Note: Alex, despite his yuppy question, is not the sugar daddy he claims to be. You've been warned, girls...Ed.)
Alex - we need photos of you modelling your new looks maybe with some of your Skins' co-workers ! ------------------------------------------------ AnnaBanana: Hi Edward! First of all, well done on your supreme costume choosing, its impeccible! I was wonder where Chris' fluffy hat from the Skins 2 opening credits is from? Its pretty much the best hat i have ever witnessed :0 Thanks
Edward: Chris' fluffy hat was from the brilliant hip/hop stall in St. Nicholas's Market in Bristol ------------------------------------------------ Bridget Burton: hi i was just wondering if you could tell me where you got Jal's Shirt, shorts and (i think they were Nike) Trainers rom episode 1 series 2, where she and chris go to pick up Tony from Maxxie's. That would be very helpful.x
Edward: Jal's shirt was from H&M;, shorts were from Uniqlo and her trainers were indeed Nike . ------------------------------------------------
mindemo: hey edward...i was wondering where maxxie got that purple and silver nylon jacket in his unseen episode on his myspace...cheers mate...haz...XO
Edward: maxxie's jacket is from Nike ------------------------------------------------ SamR: Could you tell me where the outfit Tony wore to the university came from please? Thanks
Edward: Tony's shirt from Junk de Luxe , tie by American Apparel , jacket by Parkes , trousers from Cos , belt by Gap shoes by Converse ------------------------------------------------ Grantlock: Please could u tell me if theres a peoples market shop in bristol or wher i could get the clothes from fank you!!!:D x
Edward: Not sure if People's Market sell in Bristol - it's available in Number 22 on Carnaby Street and TopMan at Oxford Circus ------------------------------------------------
Kaz: Hi Edward, I didn't get my question answered last time and I really need those socks lol. Was just wondering if you could tell me where they were from? Michelles socks in episode 1 when shes in the club and outside with Sid
Edward: Michelle's socks were from American Apparel ------------------------------------------------

Edward: jake's cardigan was an old ladie's from a jumble sale
Episode 9
------------------------------------------------
Dave Gee: Hi, can you tell me where Tony got his pink underwear and t-shirt from, please? It was the episode where Effy's mad mate came over.
Edward: Pay attention, Dave! Tony's underwear was pink due to Effy's inefficiency in the washing department! ------------------------------------------------
Christina_Marie: Hi, i was just wondering where Michelles green dress comes from in the calander cover photo below theres a photo. And also were do Jal's pink star earing come from which she too wore in the same photo? Thanks xx
Edward: Michelle's dress was by Lux from Urban Outfitters and Jal's earings were from H & M.
------------------------------------------------
Branwen: Hi edward can somebody PLEASE tell me where jal got her white dress top she wears in episode 8 series 2 when shes at her music audition, ive asked like 8 times lol! Thanks a lot xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Edward: Jal's audition dress was from Oasis - well asked!
------------------------------------------------
snoogins: This may sound like a stupid question, but i thought you should be the one to ask. I have a big problem buying trousers for myself. I dunno if it's just my frame (I'm 6 foot and pretty thin). But anything outside of blue jeans look awkward on me. I was wondering if you had any tips when look for mens trousers. Oh and everyone always asks where certain characters shop. I was wanting to know whats your own favourite brands of clothing?
Edward: Hi snoogins. Blue jeans are a pretty good basic for any look - take advantage of your height by maybe wearing trousers a bit shorter than you normally would - Farah have a great range of trousers that suit all shapes, so check them out. My favourite labels are Margaret Howell, Vivienne Westwood, Thom Browne and thanks for asking... ------------------------------------------------
skinsfreak: hey edward, was just wondering where Chris's Monkey Man t shirt was from?
Edward: Chris' Monkey Man was specially designed by me.
------------------------------------------------
beth babe: hi edward:) could you please tell me where michelles gold-like jeans are from that she wears with the silver vest in episode 8? also where is the blue vest top and the orange bra from that she wears? i cant remember which episode she wore them in sorry, thanks so much! the skins style owns:) x
Edward: Michelle's gold jeans were from Morgan , blue vest from Oasis and orange bra from La Senza. ------------------------------------------------

could you give us a rundown on each member's individual fashion style???
abso-fuckin-lutely, have some moodboards too for good measure

Tumblr media
likes looking “swaggy” like the swaggy rapper he is
wears a lot of looser patterned clothes that are technically “in” for hip-hop
often sees something on another idol and goes “that’s neat” then tries to find it on the internet
supreme? he’s got it because he’s full of swag and the company can afford it for him so he’s gonna take advantage of that shit
his entire closet? filled with stupid bucket hats and fanny packs. has decided he has too many. decided to sell them to owen and daesung. they were stupid enough to buy them
around the dorm you can usually just find him chilling in a sweatshirt and sweatpants. loves himself some sweats oh boy. probably wears sweatpants to the airport as well just because he wants to be comfortable on the plane so he’s not gonna give two shits about whether there’s a stain on his pants or not
hyunseok
Tumblr media
the stylists always end up dressing him a lot more showily than he’d want to
aways likes to have at least one red accessory somewhere, big sucker for it
styled with dangly earrings and tons of rings? It’s more likely than you’d think
doesn’t dress with the complete mom aesthetic most expect of him when on his own time; is a supporter of skinny jeans, turtlenecks, layers, jewelry. he likes fashion, takes pride in looking good. when everything else feels out of his control, his outfits aren’t.
doesn’t tend to like wearing super bright colors, sticks to greyscale and red for the most part.
at the dorms, catch him walking around in sweatpants and ryeo’s t-shirts, silk robes, and glasses. his eyesight is garbage. usually is a complete mess on days off; wearing two different slippers, no glasses because he’s dumb so he’s just squinting at everything really suspiciously, no pants, and a t-shirt like five sizes too big while he cleans. help him.

Tumblr media
has two completely different styles. his idol fashion and his dorm fashion. they’re so insanely different that if any fan saw him in dorm fashion they’d be like “whomst is that???”
idol fashion: big comfy sweaters, jeans, the biggest long sleeve t-shirts because wc absolutely cannot have him showing off his muscles
dorm fashion: very tight work-out tees. basket ball shorts. but lets go back to the t-shirts. because when i say tight i mean he’s grown two sizes in t-shirt, but hasn’t gone shopping for new ones yet tight
would love to get to wear something other than long sleeves outside, but working for wc means that he’s supposed to maintain his sweet angel image so sweaters in 90° weather it is
finds work out clothes very comfy and would like to just be in them all the time
he tends to just sleep and wander the dorms in the morning in a pair of boxers and a large t-shirt that isn’t that big on him, but jui would drown in it
jui
Tumblr media
he’d like to say that he’s the most fashionable member of k.o, but dohwan would probably punch him in the face if he said that and then proceed to go on a rant about why he’s the most fashionable member
loves anything that will button up and tuck into some tight jeans because he actually has great proportions and his legs are to die for, so he’s gonna show them off
wears only the finest of materials. hit him up with some nice silk and like designer denim. wishes he got that gucci deal instead of dohwan
accessories are a big yes. wears a lot of fun earrings and rings and bracelets. there’s always a nice belt holding up his pants because he’s that bitch
fashionable even at home. definitely has like silk pajamas and parades around in them being comfy and fashionable
can only steal jungsoo and kyungsoo’s clothing and is salty. wants to steal dohwan’s shit but the man’s 5’11” and it makes jui angry
gem
Tumblr media
he’s low-key legally obligated to wear gucci at all times, according to him. he’s the fashionista of the group and debatably the best at styling himself, loves clothing.
has no problem with showy high fashion, loves anything with a bit of shimmer to it, silk, flowy shirts with the top few buttons undone, chokers, turtlenecks and button-ups.
big on accessorizing, especially gucci belts/anything with a brand name on it.
color wise, he likes blue and purple in particular — isn’t afraid to go bold with color to stand out.
doesn’t usually like showing much skin publicly, covers up even in the sun. he’s been made fun of by fans for wearing literal suits on the beach.
at the dorms, he’s more free with how he dresses. catch him making cereal at one in the morning wearing silk pants and no shirt.
jungsoo
Tumblr media
the SOFTEST sweater wearing fool — loves sweaters, cardigans, and warm fabrics. he could complain about being cold in the middle of the rainforest.
likes bright patterns and colors, mainly because he’s so damn short and needs to find a way to stand out somehow.
has two modes: on stage, he’s usually styled very precisely and looks pretty damn hot. offstage, he seems tiny and about twelve years old, likes to pull his sleeves over his hands and swat people with them for attention.
is 10/10 the most likely to rip something by not even doing anything, is just a clumsy lil baby.
likes jewelry, usually necklaces and rings, has a necklace with a star on it he never takes off.
at the dorms, wears hongsol’s hoodies religiously and shorts or pajama pants with cute patterns like ducks. will defend his ducks with his life, don’t make fun of him, you’ll get a shoe thrown at your head.
sol
Tumblr media
wow he’s just not put together when it comes to fashion much at all. has a stylist buddy that plans his outfits for the week cause she doesn’t trust him to do it himself
pun t-shirts? oh yes please. he has just the worst graphic t-shirts that are all like a million years old that he pairs with jeans
has once just gone to the airport in one of these stupid ass shirts and a pair of ripped to hell jeans and there were victories that laughed at him
likes denim. a whole lot. like he only wears jeans. usually black jeans paired with a white t-shirt or a black t-shirt
his fashion isn’t actually all that interesting in public because he still wants to wear a t-shirt and jeans, but his stylist friend is like “what the fuck do you think you’re doing” whenever he wears a fun shirt
his color palette is exclusively black and white unless he’s being directly dressed by a stylist for a performance
seungjae
Tumblr media
boyfriend aesthetic, completely. likes to dress in layers with flannels, cardigans, etc. dresses for comfort and for practicality.
prefers muted and warmer earth tones, nothing too harsh on the eyes.
he’s usually styled in a lot of flowy and silky things, he’s not a fan but doesn’t complain.
has this one denim jacket all of the members have signed, he wears it all the damn time. it’s incredibly important to him, and he brings it with him wherever he might be filming.
doesn’t normally accessorize much or wear a lot of jewelry besides a designer watch — practical.
around the dorms, he’s usually in jeans and a flannel or knit sweater.
law
Tumblr media
edgy bitch aesthetic, as could be expected. ripped jeans, leather jackets (if he can get away with not wearing a shirt under it, bet he’s going with that), flannels, denim jackets, anything experimental and showy. if he’s not really making an effort, sticks to jeans and black t-shirts.
the more skin he can show, the better; likes to show off his tattoos, has no shame with it.
doesn’t like wearing a lot of jewelry besides rings and earrings. he dislikes dangly earrings and prefers studs, and with so many piercings in each ear, that’s wise.
if he’s not wearing doc martens or converse, there’s an issue here, chief
part ii of the monochrome and red gang, but wears dark jewel tones from time to time. claims wearing white washes him out, usually avoids it.
at the dorms, he’s usually shirtless and wearing grey sweatpants. hates shoes and will be barefoot any time he can. refers to shirts as nipple prisons and usually gets smacked for it, don’t let him have rights.
kyungsoo
Tumblr media
if there’s one thing to say about kyungsoo’s fashion taste it’s that everything he wears is at least three sizes too large on him. big sweaters, shirts, jackets, and more are his favorite things to parade around in
habitual clothing thief from his members. likes to steal jae and ryeo’s stuff the best. usually takes ryeo’s sweaters because they have similar styles
he’s already pretty small but his clothes always make him look even smaller. people comment that he always looks so soft in his big sweaters and flannels and stuff
likes pastels and greys more than your average bear. can almost never be found in a fully saturated color
a lot of his clothing falls into the ‘comfort over coolness’ area since he’s super sensitive to certain materials and doesn’t like tight fitting clothing
really loves the dress shirt under sweater combo as well as buying too big t-shirts/button ups and tucking them into a tight pair of black jeans
owen
Tumblr media
the boy! loves! colors! pastels are a big yes for him and pairing those pastels with things like overalls and such is so much fun
he’s also a huge fan of things with pockets. like, the more space to keep stupid things in the better. owns a jacket with fifteen pockets that remi and kiyong bought for him as a joke, but he actually adores it and wears it all the time
follows like those modern flower-boy trends where he puts on some mom jeans and tucks a t-shirt into them. fans think it’s super cute

also a big ol’ sucker for putting cool jackets on top of his sweatshirts so he looks fun and edgy. his sweatshirts are 99% of the time stolen from dae
can just be super simple too. half of his shirts are just white or stripy and he’ll usually stick a button up on top of those and pair it with some jeans and white sneakers
speaking of sneakers, you’ll never find him in any other shoes unless he’s forced to. once wore converse with a suit on the red carpet
lux
Tumblr media
loves sweatpants and oversized shirts/hoodies, skinny jeans. usually just looser tops and tighter clothing on the bottom, really.
big sucker for the color green, he claims it looks the best with his hair and skin color.
dresses for comfort and looks uneasy when he has to wear more delicate clothing and anything ridiculously expensive and fancy.
10/10 the most likely to buy some $3 t-shirt and wear it for like a week straight.
almost always wears athletic shoes of some kind.
around the dorms, he dresses pretty similarly: sweatpants, hoodies, burrows in his clothes.

Couples who dress alike: 'It looks like we’re from the same cult' | Fashion
Jimi Phgura, 38, performing artist, and Simran Dhiman-Phgura, 38, freelance stylist, Hertfordshire
Jimi I’ve always worn classic clothes – I love the fabrics and weight that old clothes have. Growing up, I was introduced to them by my older brother, whom I perform with as the Twilight Players – we dance to music from ska to Prince to Stevie Wonder, and we always wear original clothes: the two-tone brogues, the baggies. I’ve had my quiff since I was 13; Jimi the Quiff is what they call me.
When I was growing up, I used to get a lot of hassle for being into vintage stuff. As I’ve got older I’ve thought, no, it’s good to be different. And being with Simran has given me more confidence to dress that way. It makes it more exciting to have both of us wearing it, as opposed to her wearing tracksuit bottoms or something.
I’ve been aware of us dressing similarly since we got together in 2005. When we went out, people would say, “Oh, you guys look amazing.” But it wasn’t until last year, when we decided to start selling a lot of our stuff to fund a trip to Thailand and did Portobello market, only then did I think, oh, people really dig our style. People would see us together and take photos.
I don’t really see it as couples dressing; it’s not as if we sit together and think about what we’re going to wear. Nine times out of 10, we just end up wearing something that matches or complements each other. And now that we’ve got a baby on the way, we’ve started noticing baby vintage stuff; I didn’t know that existed before.
Simran I’m a secondhand queen, I like to shop on eBay and all the apps, from Depop to Vinted. The 50s and 60s are my favourite eras, but at the moment, because I’m pregnant, I’m doing flowy 70s style to accommodate my growing bump.
We influence each other. Jimi has a great eye and I’ve got a great eye, so we do ask each other for advice. If I’m going to a wedding or something, I’ll plan my outfit. We’re of Indian descent and if I’m wearing a vintage sari, he’ll try to complement it with a vintage suit in similar colours. But we never intentionally match. It’s cute sometimes. It just depends on the mood I’m in – sometimes you don’t want to look like your husband.
The baby won’t necessarily look matching; but if I’m dressed in a classic outfit, I might dress the baby in one, too.

Malcolm Matt and I have been going out for 13 years, but we probably only started to dress more similarly when we moved in together eight years ago. I was more subtle before.
We’ve grown to like the same things. I like 80s-inspired stuff, from Duran Duran to Miami Vice, Buffalo. Harrison Ford as Deckard in Blade Runner is a key look, as is Kurt Russell in Overboard and Richard Gere in anything. I like clothes that evoke memories, of a holiday, for instance. We’ve got racks of amazing shirts that conjure up the Mediterranean or the Riviera, but through the prism of the 80s. It’s a fun wardrobe.
We’re not matchy-matchy – if I’m wearing a sweater with a cat and he’s wearing one with a dog, it’s a bit much
We’re not matchy-matchy – if I’m wearing a sweater with a cat on, and he’s wearing a sweater with a dog, then it’s a bit much. I don’t want us to go out looking like overgrown twins or a Little Britain sketch. Sometimes I say, “We can’t both go out wearing a denim shirt”, like Britney and Justin. And I don’t want people to think, because I’m a few years older than Matt, that it’s a Henry Higgins/Eliza Doolittle thing, or Liberace and his chauffeur. I think it looks like we’re from the same cult or boy band: we’re not dressed identically but we do make sure that we look OK together.
We can share clothes only from the waist up – I have legs like spaghetti, he comes from a family of rugby players. We don’t share underwear for the same reason.
Matthew In the 80s, Peter York wrote a book about different tribes: one of them was Babytime, or people who like childish things. We might like a sweatshirt with Bambi on it, or primary colours. To say that we both like cute things is a bit simplistic, but we are quite silly. We’re both happy to be slightly ridiculous.
Colour-blocking is the core thing that describes how I dress. In terms of what I wear, it’s actually pretty classic. I’m not stirring up fashion madness with culottes or anything like that – it’s more about the colours and the textures.
Malcolm is probably a bit wilder than I am, more daring. He has quite a lot of zeitgeisty culture statement T-shirts. He’s got a Golden Girls one that I would never wear – not that he would ever let me. When I was a kid, I would always get my mum to buy me things – orange trousers or stupid rainbow jumpers – and then I would be too scared to wear them. Malcolm has given me the confidence to wear what I want.
Ben Langlands, 62, and Nikki Bell, 58, both Turner-nominated artists, London and Kent
‘I wouldn’t go back and change if we were too matching.’ Photograph: Harriet Turney for the Guardian
Ben We have been collaborating for 40 years, so I do talk about what we wear as a “we”. We’re artists, so we’re free to choose whatever we want to wear; we don’t have to meet other people’s expectations.
Work is our main priority, so we dress to be practical and comfortable. We generally wear jeans and white shirts, occasionally suits, or a jacket with jeans. We’ll wear a single-coloured shirt, like pink or blue, with jeans. Neither of us ever wears dresses – it’s always shirts and trousers.
I don’t think there’s really anything I would wear that she wouldn’t, or vice versa
I remember once, when I first got to know Nikki, we visited the parents of a childhood friend of hers and they showed us a Super 8 film of their daughter’s 12th birthday party. There were about 30 little girls in frocks and one little girl in pink flared trousers. That was Nikki.
We never attempt to match, it just happens naturally. But we’re not terribly self-conscious about it. I don’t think there’s really anything I would wear that she wouldn’t, or vice versa. It’s all quite androgynous.
Nikki My clothes are very simple to wear, wash, pack, maintain. I’ve always been a trousers person.
We met at art school in 1977 and started collaborating in 1978. When we first got together, I don’t think I was conscious of the similarities in the way we dressed. We came together through our work – a piece called The Kitchen, in two halves. I made the old kitchen and Ben the new; they were mirror images of each other.
I wouldn’t try not to match – it’s an individual decision and I wouldn’t go back and change if we were too matching. If that’s what we both wanted to wear, then that’s what we’re wearing.
Langlands & Bell’s Internet Giants: Masters of the Universe opens at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham in March 2018.
Brittany Bathgate, 27, blogger, and Dean Khalil, 32, builder/artist, Norwich
‘She’s a bit too small for us to share, but I have worn women’s clothes in the past.’ Photograph: Harriet Turney for the Guardian
Brittany We were really different when we first met. Dean was into DIY clothes – he’d dye his own T-shirts, cut them up, write on them. I was massively into Alexa Chung, so my style used to be quite indie It girl – lots of blazers, brogues, peacoats with miniskirts. It was a little bit 60s – sometimes I would wear my hair in a tiny beehive.
In 2013, we went travelling and spent a year in Australia. Before we went away, we didn’t dress similarly, but something switched: after a few months of living near the beach, you give up on wearing anything nice and just live in shorts and a vest out of necessity. So by the time we came home, we had a blank slate, clothes-wise, and got to start building our wardrobes back from scratch.
Dean’s a bit more rough around the edges. His skateboard style is too dirty for me. I iron everything
We’re quite aware of our couples dressing – we do often have to ask what the other is wearing so we’re not too similar. Sometimes if we’re going out, I’ll have got dressed and Dean will be like, “Oh, I was going to wear my blue jacket.”
My style is quite clean and classic. I find it fun to play around with pairings of classic pieces with, say, some crazy, wide-legged trousers. Dean’s a bit more rough around the edges. His skateboard style is too dirty for me. I iron everything and am quite particular.
We both have a lot of stripy tops, navy jackets, the same Levi’s. I’ve always been inspired by men’s clothes, but look for a women’s version – because I’m so small I can’t really wear them.
Dean I like a lot of classic British style – labels like Fred Perry and that sort of 60s look that’s fitted but not fitted. This Is England is a good style reference.
Nine years ago, when we first met, we were both at art school and I was a bit more flamboyant. In the early days of our relationship, I used to wear these black jeggings with bleach on them. I had some big builder’s boots. Our tastes have changed, but in the same direction – we’ve grown together. Sometimes we will literally have the same outfit on.
Brittany’s a bit too small for us to share clothes, but I have worn women’s clothes in the past. I used to wear girls’ jeans – when I was younger I couldn’t get jeans tight enough.
But I also have a lot of clothes that Brittany wouldn’t wear. I have Converse that are about eight years old; once white and now brown. I love them, but Brittany won’t wear shoes once they’ve got a mark on them. Every day when the shoes come off, they are stuffed and go back in the box on the shelf. Everything gets ironed.
Joel Bird, 42, carpenter/author of The Book Of Shed, and Sara Chew, 37, graphic designer/illustrator, London
‘We drifted together, but not consciously – I can’t remember ever thinking, I’d like to dress like Sara.’ Photograph: Harriet Turney for the Guardian
Joel I class my style as 30s/40s. My family thinks that I dress a bit like Indiana Jones. I didn’t set out to dress like this, but I wanted functional clothes for carpentry, and the high-waisted trousers with braces are comfortable. Plus I am interested in that era – I like jazz, and dance swing and balboa.
Even at school I dressed quite unusually – I’ve always been interested in craft. As a lad in Liverpool, I always had a sewing machine, and now I do make some of my clothes. I buy dungarees from eBay or secondhand sites like Rokit and cut the tops off to make them into high-waisted jeans. I often buy old army braces because they’re stronger than fashion braces.
Sara and I have been together for 11 years and living together for nine. I think until about five years ago, Sara dressed more vintage than I did, then we kind of drifted together, but not consciously. I almost don’t like the idea of dressing the same as my partner – it’s my paranoia at the lack of independence. But it’s inevitable – you take influences from each other.
We do sometimes share clothes. Sara steals my stuff, and if I’m desperate I can wear her trousers; but it’d have to be a bad wash day.
Sara I think Joel and I have come to dress the same because we both like things that are practical and well made.
I’m different from Joel in that I’m totally happy for us to dress the same; I’m a graphic designer and illustrator, and I like things to look right. If we go out and we look similar, to me that’s good, because we’re not clashing. I wouldn’t make us go out in matching shellsuits, though.
I’ve been wearing vintage stuff my whole life. For me it’s about the way they fit – because of the type of body I’ve got, I don’t suit a lot of modern clothes. It’s about the cut, the fabric – and the fact that they last better.

OPERATION SEAGULL - UPDATE 11/7/17 ---------- Hi! I’m Laura, and here’s an update on our first day working with refugees in Greece! Today we performed for children refugees for the first time. We are working along side the Flying Seagull Project, which is a company that specialises in performing for children in these environments. The places we went to today didn’t have enough space to do much stilt work so the Flying Seagulls asked us to perform an acrobalance routine which Liam, Elliot and I devised this morning before the show. We are so grateful to have had our training at East 15, which gave us the skills and the confidence to create a short show in a very tight time limit. We performed three shows in three different buildings hosting refugees in Athens. The first show started with the Flying Seagulls leading games in which we all took part, then they performed a clowning piece to introduce the show, and finally we did our acrobalance routine. We were allowed more time and space for our second show so we added bits to it; Sophie and Lauren taught everyone the Haka and Piotr got to do his stilts solo. Our last show was performed in a very small room situated on the top floor of a big building; there were many more kids than in the other places and unfortunately there wasn’t enough space for everyone so some of us didn’t come along. We will change the structure of the show and the performers but at the moment we have to adapt our performance to fill those particular spaces. Our first ‘incident’ occurred during our third performance: Liam was on his back, he was making me fly with his feet and blowing bubbles at the same time. Elliot was meant to knock us over but instead he knocked the bubble bottle and all of the soapy water ended up being spilled into Liam’s eyes. Even though Liam couldn’t see, he kept going and managed to keep me flying on his feet. I had no idea how to help him and I felt completely useless. He recovered pretty quickly and we finished the piece as planned. After every performance we got feedback from the other company members and we made some changes in order to make it better. We had to work on our slapstick bits and needed to make children more excited by asking them “you want more?” after each move. By the end of the day our show was much better; there are some things that we don’t necessarily realise when we’re performing and an outside eye helps improve the show. It is very hot here. We all wear a shirt with a stripy top over it, plus black leggings and shorts to match the Flying Seagulls’ outfit. We all sweat so much but luckily our flat has got a washing machine so we get the luxury to wash our clothes in the evening. The thing that strikes me the most with the kids we met today is their eyes. A lot of them have very intense eyes and it is impossible not to think about what they could have been through. Some kids have nasty scars and it breaks my heart. I make the connection between the images of bombing that we see on the news and the kids we perform for. I can’t believe these kids can still smile, laugh and play after having lived in a war zone and making such a dangerous journey. The more refugee kids I see, the more I question the world we live in. I just wish people who are against hosting refugees could look at one of the kids we’ve seen and see the innocence in their eyes. Being here definitely puts life into perspective and we have all realised how lucky we are to be born and raised in a safer area of the world. I realise that I sometimes complain about problems that only relate to the first world countries, such as “Oh no! I put my pound coins and my euro coins in the same purse” or “I haven’t had a shower in 24 hours”. I feel bad, but as long as we remember that there are people like these refugees who have problems that we can only imagine, then there is no ignorance. We are lucky and should never forget that. No one should ever forget that.

Vice Versa ep 3
It's another long one...and one where I lay down some theories...
It might be called Soft Blush but this episode included many red/pink and blue pairings - the yellow and green pairing also showed up a few times but not as much - which is maybe because this ep focused a lot on Puen and Talay coming together, getting to know one another, going on a not-a-date date, and forming a closeness and attachment to each other...and which partly leads me to think that the show may be coding our two main characters as blue and red/pink (I'm still not differentiating them until there's an obvious separation). I'm not sure which colour is which character yet, and it may not mean anything beyond 'those are their colours', but I'll come back to this later...
First, the ep starts in the same green palette as ep 2, but the scene is a continuation from the end of that ep so it makes sense, then the opening title screen blends the green with pink, add a little blue (!) before settling on the soft blush…and as if to answer my pondering at the end of my ep 2 post, Puen is wearing colour for the first time straight away! (and I know it's the colour of the ep but it could also be Puen wearing his own colour...or Talay's colour...)
Tumblr media
So the red-and-blue pairings... It's first seen in the café with their clothes (above) and the blue water glasses, then with the friend group (below) with a richer blue and red on their lower halves and softer hues on the top halves balanced symmetrically across the frame. Note also that Up's hoodie is dark green and also has a yellow triangle (along with blue red and black). Further still, this frame in particular has the four main colours in the background, with the green plants, the yellow lightbulb sign to the right, the blue behind, and red to the left...
Tumblr media
And later, Puen has a dark blue shirt with Talay in light pink...and the colours are repeated in Aou's stripy top (and the red/blue sign behind). Up again has a bit of green...but check out his red and blue socks! (In fact, Up's wardrobe has a lot of funky socks in general).
Tumblr media
Later still, Aou is in a rich red with Up in a bright blue...and I thought it was an odd choice for the "Have Fun" design on his sweater in the first half of this scene...but it was giving us a hint that they had actually forgiven Tun/Puen and were just messing around.
Tumblr media
And we got a few scenes with just Puen and Talay with shades of red and blue...first very pale when Puen is feeling disheartened and Talay is trying to cheer him up... (Note also the purple bag - being a blending of both colours...maybe because they're finding a common ground between them as they're getting to know each other better.)
Tumblr media
...and then with the deep, plush, shades of the cinema seating on the not-a-date date. I thought this framing was an interesting...for a lot of the scene in the cinema the blue seats were more hidden in the back in the dark BUT when Puen recites the confession to Talay, it's lighter and the frame pans out to show the stripe of blue at the top as well.
Tumblr media
And then the helmet..."The one wearing this is cute" in blue and pink...incidentally, I'd be interested to know if in Thai this sentence keeps the word order...or, more specifically, which words are in blue and which words are in pink - anyone? Also, I had noticed Talay's bracelet before this moment but seeing it here confirmed for me that it is indeed blue...
Tumblr media
Going back to the 'flashback' scene…it was the below framing that made me think that perhaps the two main characters are being more specifically coded…with a blue halo for Tun (and surrounded by pink/purple…also note the hint of red to the right). This could imply Tun/Puen is blue…I mean, in the poster images, Puen is in blue denim whilst Talay is in pink trousers…however Talay does say he dislikes pink…but it could be a little like 'the lady doth protest too much'. Yes, he says the pink/red he wears are Tess' clothes BUT he can choose not to wear them.
Of course, there is also an argument for Talay being blue - his name practically indicates this with Talay meaning "sea"…but also he has a blue phone, and a blue bracelet - and Puen could be red - someone said that Puen's second name means "wind"/"air" (so the pink sky that Talay dislikes so much?)…but also the first colour he wears is pink. It could be that as Talay falls for Puen he will accept and like pink more and more.
Who knows…but as I was trying to sort all this out in my head it occurred to me that it could be both…as in Talay is blue and Puen is red/pink but in the alternative universe it's...wait for it...vice versa, with Tun being blue and Tess being red/pink. But also none of this could be right 😂 It might be clearer as the series goes on if these characters are coded this specifically...and in the meantime I'll just keep pondering.
Tumblr media
Anyway, note in the above that green is paired with yellow again in Up's shirt...and below, we get another instance where red/blue and yellow/green all appear together. When the four were sat around the table during the screenplay pitch I was sad there wasn't any yellow...but look at Up's socks again!
Tumblr media
And so for the extra colours from the past two eps - orange and brown - the former didn't feature much this ep, only popping up briefly with the orange typewriter and in the cinema. With the first scene, Puen had been "lively", living his best life in Tun's body and messing it up in the process, but after speaking with Tess he's instead deep in thought about what he said. And then in the cinema, Puen is playing around trying to see if the other pair is actually a couple whilst Talay is a bit more concerned that they need to work on the screenplay.
Brown had a bit more presence in the ep...and again, one could say it was during scenes where there was a slight serious edge to the conversation or subject matter -> the curved wooden structure in the association at the beginning when Phuwdol, Talay, and Puen are talking about the portkeys; in the café when Talay and Puen discuss the screenplay; Aou's shirt in the 'flashback' when the three friends are discussing their strengths and weaknesses; and finally Puen's t-shirt and shirt at the end during the screenplay pitch and in the last scene with Talay, when he was hopefully being genuine about his promise to live Tun's life well and being grateful for Talay's presence in his life. I've seen some ponderings by others about whether Puen is acting or being real with his feelings towards Talay...and I'm hoping it's the latter...and I'm hoping I'm right with the colour interpretation. We'll see!

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 3:
This episode is the most ‘neutral’ so far. Pran, in particular, wears only a white shirt in all but two scenes (no sign of his red architecture coat even), and in those he wears only shades of blue - which feels very significant. Pat, on the other hand, switches between blue, green, and grey t-shirts, with or without a white shirt over the top, and his blue engineering coat.
After the last two episodes, I feel like this is a deliberate choice...and could represent Pran trying to pull away from Pat (in part due to the destruction of the pavilion/bus stop) thus removing the vibrant colour in his life. 😭
At the noodle place and for the race to the dorm, Pat is wearing a dark blue Tim Horton smile cookie t-shirt...a little nod to Pran's penchant for the smiley faces.

Whilst Pat is trying to connect to Pran following the bus stop destruction, he is wearing a grey te-shirt with pink writing across his chest, perhaps showing his guilt or sadness.

When the tin can phone doesn't work, the green comes back! Pat has an olive green t-shirt under his white shirt. Again, as I’ve written on the Ep 1 and 2 posts, the green perhaps represents the obstacle Pat (and Pran) faces to reconcile.

And now we have colour! Pran is in blue of all colours 💙 He has black pants to match Pat's black top and Pat has light grey pants (perhaps as a link to the white Pran has been wearing so far). This blue feels very weighted here - as though it represents the reconciliation as Pran warms to Pat again during the scene.

Back at uni the next day, Pran is back to white and Pat has a blue t-shirt under his white shirt and his blue engineering coat on. For the truce at the bus stop the next day, Pat swaps out the blue t-shirt to a grey/light blue one. That's a lot of blue - perhaps a display of Pat (or Pran's, since the episode is more his pov) strength of feelings...

And lastly, the corridor scene. Pran has dark blue plants and a white and dark blue/black stripy top. Pat wears a grey/light blue top with light blue jean shorts. Two ends of the shade spectrum, perhaps to show how they're getting to be on the same page but are still far away from each other?

Other points to note:
The friends groups stick to their own colours for the almost whole episode...apart from the truce at the end when the engineering group includes some red (and a little green!) in their blue colour scheme (see pic above). This inclination for the engineering group to include red (but not the architecture group to include blue) might be foreshadowing how each group will respond to Pat and Pran’s relationship...
