Hiking In Vesuvia

"Freshly picked red apples from Nadia's garden? Check. Salad with the finest greens in Vesuvia, also from Nadia's garden? Check. Asra's special not-so-magic rose tea, in satchel? Check. And finally, homemade smoked eel, made by yours truly, MC? Check!" I said to myself, checking my list and weeding through a little picnic basket Asra bought for me years ago.

Last time I was visiting Muriel, he invited me to go on a hike with him through the Vesuvian mountains. Of course I gladly accepted, and here I am. He didn't ask for any food, much less a picnic, but I figured it would be nice to surprise him, or at least return the favor of him taking me on such a lovely trip.

"Got your stuff, MC?" Asra asked, leaning on the shop's door frame. He's holding a colorful woven blanket, clearly handmade by a Vesuvian weaver.

"Everything's all ready and packed," I replied, closing the basket and grasping it's handle. "What's that?" I asked curiously, pointing at the blanket in his hands.

"Oh, this? Well, it gets cold on the cliffs in the evenings, and I thought you and Muri would like a blanket. You know, just in case," he said, approaching me and smiling. He placed it in my hands and patted the top of it. "Be safe, okay? I know Muri won't let anything happen to you, but I also know that you get curious sometimes. Just, be careful," he stated.

"I will Asra, I promise I won't wonder off the trail chasing butterflies," I replied, blanket and basket in hand.

Asra laughed and pulled me into a friendly hug, messing up my hair on purpose.

"Oh you dingus!" I hissed, pulling away. He smiled and stepped out of my way, motioning to the door. I glared at him but returned a small smile, walking passed him and out the small decorated door.

"Be careful! Tell Muriel I said hello!" he yelled behind me as he waved goodbye.

"I will!" I shouted back, picking up my pace. I've never been hiking before, but I'm beyond excited. Especially because I'm going with Muriel.

The sound of music, city-goers, and shop owners advertising filled air. Colorful silks and fabrics danced in with the warm summer breeze, and the smell of freshly baked goods swirled through the atmosphere. I took in a deep breath, embracing the scent of seafood, fire-cooked vegetables, and the sweet aroma of my favorite pumpkin bread. Rich perfumes dazzled the streets, blooming flowers covered Vesuvian buildings, and beautiful, diverse bodies swarmed the heart of the city. I twirled and danced through the alleys and pathways, occasionally grasping a stranger's hand and dancing with them. With a soft smile plastered on my face, I made my way through Vesuvia's crowded streets.

"Hey, Olivia!" a familiar voice hollered behind me. I turned around and saw my baker friend, grinning and waving me over. I trotted to his stand and greeted him.

"Hello Selasi! What's the matter?" I asked, playing with a small plant on his counter.

"Oh nothing dear magician, I just heard that you have a date with a certain someone," he replied, eyebrow raised.

I smiled and said, "Why yes I do, in fact, I'm on my way to meet him now."

"How wonderful!" Selasi cheered. "I've got something for you, a gift to share with this special person," he said, reaching behind him. He presented me with a fresh, extra large loaf of pumpkin bread. "Your favorite!" he exclaimed. "I'm sure your date will enjoy it too."

"You are too kind Selasi," I stated, grasping the loaf. "Could I pay you a small amount?" I asked.

Selasi shook his head. "No can-do MC, it's a gift from me to you," he replied, smiling.

I huffed. "Fine, fine, but do expect a tip next time!" I said as I carefully packed the bread in my basket. Standing up, I gave Selasi a quick, "Thank you!" and was on my way.

"You're welcome MC! Safe travels!" he shouted.

I continued walking down Vesuvia's colorful, bustling streets until the crowds started to thin out and I saw the edge of the forest in the distance. Soft murmurs of travelers and wonderers could be heard, along with the sound of waves crashing against Vesuvian shores. Muriel told me that he would meet me in this spot, as he didn't want me walking in the forest alone, nor did he want to navigate the heart of the city. I brushed off my clothing and took a seat on a small bench resting in the shadows of an old, damaged building. Small birds chirped around me, filling any silence on the city's edge. I closed my eyes for a moment, until I heard a deep, rumbling voice.

"MC?" Muriel asked as he approached me. I opened my eyes and looked up at him, smiling. Ianna was trailing behind him, wagging her tail and panting.

"Hi Muri," I said as I stood up. He is much taller than me and intimidating to most street-goers, but I feel a strong sense of safety and security whenever I'm with him. His height, figure, and demeanor never bothered me, even when we first met. I always found it unique and intriguing. "You look nice today," I complimented him, running my hands over his furs and cloak. He also had the green scarf I bought him wrapped loosely around his neck.

"I... Thank you," he replied, his cheeks turning bright pink. He played with his hands and looked towards the forest. "You do too, I mean, you look nicer than me," he said quietly, still blushing.

I chuckled. "Oh nonsense! If anyone here has a sense of fashion, it's certainly you," I stated, examining his outfit. All of the furs and fabrics perfectly came together and matched, and he never wore any flashy colors. Everything meshed beautifully, and it reminded me of the forest itself.

He smiled softly and looked at me. His green eyes sparkled and his fluffy black hair blew gently in the wind. After taking a moment to look at me, he pointed to the basket and blanket I was holding. "What's that?" he asked, tilting his head.

"Oh! I thought it would be nice to make us some food for when we get to the top of the mountain," I said, opening the basket. "I've got fresh pumpkin bread from Selasi, apples and salad from Nadia's garden, and homemade smoked eel. I made it myself," I explained as I weaved through all the contents to show him. "And this," I started, closing the basket and holding up the colorful blanket, "is from Asra. He wanted me to bring it with us incase it gets cold on the cliff."

Muriel stood still, eyebrows furrowed together. "You did all of this... For me?" he questioned, shocked at all the things I had brought.

"Of course I did," I replied. "You invited me to do something fun that I've never done before, so I figured I would do a little something special for you," I elaborated.

"But... Why?" he asked quietly, now looking me in the eyes.

I raised my free hand up to his face. He flinched at first, but quickly relaxed with my touch. "Because you deserve it," I said, gently rubbing my thumb against his cheek. He put his hand up to mine and let out a sigh. "Now come on, let's go hiking," I stated, grinning.

"I guess that is what we came here for," Muriel said, giving my hand a squeeze before letting it down. He grasped the basket and blanket from my arm and approached Ianna, who seemed to be antsy to start exploring. He pat her back, saying, "Hop on, MC."

I grinned and jogged over to Ianna, running my fingers through her soft, gray fur. She turned to lick my hand and wagged her fluffy tail.

Suddenly, large hands grasped my waist and lifted me up onto Ianna's back. "Hey!" I said, laughing. "I could've done that myself, you know."

Muriel chuckled as he smoothed out some of the wolf's fur. "I know," he said, throwing Asra's blanket over his shoulder and resting my basket on his arm. "Let's go Ianna," he stated as he started walking. The wolf happily trotted alongside Muriel, occasionally looking back to check on me.

I leaned forward and rested my head on the back of Ianna's neck, wrapping my arms around her chest. She licked my arm and scooted in closer to Muriel. I looked up at him and saw him smiling, adoring the sight of me and Ianna getting along so well.

Beautiful oak and spruce trees began to tower over us as we made our way into the forest. Patches of golden sunlight shown through the treetops and lit up the path. Birds and colorful insects flew around us, and flower petals blew with the wind. Wild roses, daisies, forget-me-nots, and poppies littered the bush, bright reds, pinks, blues, and yellows clashing against the greenery. Occasionally, I saw tiny field mice hop around tree roots and patches of grass.

"This place is beautiful Muriel," I said, wonder and awe filling my gaze. "I wouldn't mind being here often," I stated, looking upon the gorgeous scenery.

"Y-you could, if you... If you wanted to," Muriel muttered, clearly flustered. He wasn't used to much company, let alone someone who really wanted to be around him.

I sat up on Ianna's back and looked up at him. "I would really like that Muri," I replied, a light blush painted on my cheeks.

He turned to face me and smiled softly, green eyes gazing at me lovingly. "S-so would I," he said quietly.

I reached for his hand, intertwining my fingers with his. Bright red pigment covered his cheeks and neck all the way down to his chest. "I can stop if you want," I stated, worried I had made the wrong move.

Rather than saying anything, Muriel held my hand tighter and continued on the path. I smiled and rubbed my thumb against his skin. Ianna wagged her tail and scooted over to bump us together. Muriel chuckled and patted her head with his free hand.

We soon approached the beginning of the Vesuvian mountains. The path became much steeper, and piles of rocks were increasing in abundance. The trees were huge and their canopies were much darker than those in the main forest. A lot less sunlight shown through the leaves.

"Okay MC," Muriel began, lifting me off of Ianna's back. "This is where the real hiking starts. Ianna, stay behind us incase MC slips," he commanded, rubbing her back. She barked in response.

"Just hold my hand and follow my lead, okay?" he requested, looking at me with worry. "I dont want you getting hurt."

I smiled and gripped his hand. "Will do," I replied. He nodded and pressed his forehead against mine for a few moments, then stepped back.

"Let's go then," he said, taking the first few steps. I gladly obliged.

Climbing up the mountain was a lot easier than Muriel had let it off to be, and I was having the time of my life. Beautiful luminescent mushrooms glowed in shadowy places, interesting bugs and herbs infested the mountain side, creating sweet scents and gorgeous biodiversity. Birds sang and families of wild deer laid in small clearings. Small creeks and ponds were everywhere. I could also hear the sound of a distant waterfall.

Muriel suddenly stopped and bent over, picking up a pretty, colorful flower I had never seen before. It was about as big as my palm and consisted of blues and violets. He brushed my hair behind my ear and placed the beautiful plant on top of it. His huge hand fell to the crook between my neck and shoulder.

"Pretty," he said. "Both of you."

I smiled and got on my tip toes. "Pick me up for a moment," I requested.

He looked confused, but nodded and made sure he was grounded so we wouldn't slip. He grasped my waist and lifted me up to his face with ease.

"Thank you," I murmured, gently kissing his cheek. "I couldn't reach," I giggled.

Muriel chuckled and pulled me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck, calmness and warmth coming over me. He he grunted softly, like he hadn't been hugged in years.

Ianna barked, obviously eager to get to the top of the mountain. Muriel shook his head and carefully put me down. "Ready to go, aren't you pup?" he questioned, knowing the answer. Ianna whined and inched forward.

"I suppose so," I said, holding Muriel's hand once more. "Are we close?" I asked.

"Very, just a few more minutes," Muriel replied, making sure he had his footing before continuing. I grinned and happily kept up the pace.

The trees were starting to become smaller, and the canopies more open now. With the path now wider, Ianna caught up to me and Muriel, pressing against my side. Warm colors started showing through the leaves and the air became cooler. We approached a large, rocky opening where the sky was now fully visible.

"Careful," Muriel stated as we climbed up the rocks. I followed his movements and steps, watching to make sure I didn't slip. Ianna hopped up the larger rocks and quickly made it to the top, sitting down and waiting for us patiently. Muriel made it up soon after her, reached for my hands, and pulled me up.

Nothing could've prepared me for the sight in front of me. I gasped, staring in awe at the beautiful sunset. Vibrant oranges, reds, purples and pinks filled the evening sky. Fluffy clouds danced in the air, gold and pink hues painted all over them. The sun casted off a deep orange light, covering me, Muriel, and Ianna in beautiful color. But above all, I could see the palace and entire city of Vesuvia. Gold plating and marble glowed under the sunset, sparkling and gleaming in the warm light. Lanterns and distant lights looked like gorgeous yellow orbs, and the marketplace was vibrant with color. All of the buildings had an orange hue, and the river cutting through the heart of Vesuvia glowed a bright, beautiful aqua. I turned to my right and saw the vast ocean, patches of yellow, orange, and red glowing on the dark blue waters. Large ships and small sailboats rocked against the gentle waves. Vesuvians resided on the streets and beaches, enjoying the twilight.

"Muriel... This, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," I said, turning to face him. "Did you know it would look like this?" I asked, still in shock over the landscape.

Muriel blushed and fiddled with his hands. "I come here a lot, I-I wanted you to see it too," he replied. His black hair glowed in the light and his eyes sparkled brightly.

"Oh Muri," I began, pulling him into an embrace. "It's amazing, thank you so much," I murmured softly, snuggling up close to his chest. "I love it," I added, looking up at him.

He smiled and rested his head on top of mine, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. His body relaxed in my arms and he let out a relieved sigh.

"How about we have our meal now?" I suggested, pulling away gently.

Muriel smiled and nodded, taking the blanket off his shoulder and laying it down a few feet away from the cliff's edge. He sat down and put the basket in the middle of our spot. Ianna wagged her tail and curled up beside him, resting her head on his leg.

I approached the two and plopped down on the side opposite to Muriel. I opened the basket of goods, spreading them on the blanket. And without any words, we began to eat our meal, watching the wonderous sunset.

Angel’s Life Experiences: The Chocolate Rat King

After reporting the Carrot Cake (Donut) Incident, I was asked by @feral-skinwalker about the Chocolate Rat King.

Again, I knew that one day this was going to be put into text. This is that day. 

Nearly ten years ago, my second ex and I moved to Lubbock, Texas and ended up living across the street from my brother in the world’s most god-awful-falling-apart-this-is-not-a-home single-wide trailer. It was... marvelous? 

No heating, no AC, no functional gas, holes in the walls and the less said about the stability of the floor, the better. 

One of the quirks of this glorious residence was the utter lack of usable kitchen. There WAS a stove with an oven. That wasn’t hooked up to the Gas We Didn’t Have. 

This is what lead to the Chocolate Rat King. 

My sister-in-law, bless her heart, was determined to make me “feel at home” and this included “voluntary” participation in a Christmas Cookie Exchange held by an old family friend and quite a few of my sister-in-law’s hospital friends. (She’s an RN; do not fuck with her. She can make the pain last and you will survive it.) This “voluntary” participation involved baking cookies--at least three dozen--and packing them into a festive little tin to be taken to a ladies-only party. The cookies would then be exchanged; you’d fill your tin up with OTHER cookies and come away with a calorie fest for days. 

This was the plan. 

Issues were arising the moment I realized that everyone was going to be baking basically the same cookies: snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, etc. And I have A Problem™ of wanting to Be Different. This Problem™ has led me astray before--ask @tlbodine about the Pillow Bin--but I didn’t consider it A Problem at the time because damn it, why NOT make different cookies? BETTER cookies? 

First Issue: I could not bake the cookies in my own home because haHA no functional oven. The wood-burning stove that my second ex and I used to keep the “house” above freezing was NOT equipped for baking cookies and I’m not exactly Laura Ingalls Wilder. 

Second Issue: The cookies I wanted to initially make were nixed because apparently butterscotch is like... not a Thing People Enjoy. I found this baffling. 

Third Issue: The cookbook I was handed to peruse for “a good recipe” had a large number of fanciful cookies. Now, I like Fancy. I may not manage Fancy very well, but I appreciate it and the Fancy Cookies I was seeing were luring me into the idea that I could competently bake them. 

...which led me to the page of Instagram-worthy adorable chocolate mouse cookies. 

{Google apparently doesn’t believe me that chocolate mouse cookies are a thing. Or it’s trying to protect me from that entire Incident repeating...}

They were mouse-shaped chocolate cookies with charming little chocolate chip eyes, toothpick whiskers and shoestring licorice tails. Adorable, no fancy decorating involved--how hard was it to put on eyes and tails?--and the ingredients weren’t unreasonable by my standards. (My sister-in-law, who financed this “voluntary” participation, also agreed the ingredients were reasonable.)

No one was going to have chocolate mice in THEIR festive tin. I was convinced; these would be Successful Cookies. 

I should have known. 

On the day before the Christmas Cookie Exchange, the ingredients were bought, the kitchen cleared of my niece and nephew and I was turned loose with my second ex to begin the delightful task of baking cookies. 

Everyone loves baking cookies. It’s a time-honored tradition that can burn in Hell. 

Having estimated how many cookies would be needed, my sister-in-law had bought ingredients for something in the range of six dozen cookies. I was told to bake at least four dozen. 

Now, the recipe had provided the amounts for two dozen cookies; doubling it (or tripling it) would have meant math. I figured it’d be easier to just mix up another batch after the first one was set and ready to go in the oven. 

As it turns out, the dough for chocolate mice is stiff. And the recipe called for one tablespoon of dough per cookie, to be “shaped” into a cute little teardrop shape to make an appropriate mouse. My second ex was busily playing Magic with my brother while I delved into the first round of Shaping the Cookies. 

An hour later and I was only halfway through the damn batch of dough. It was tedious. The dough was stiff and grainy, stuck to everything--including floured fingers--and it took forever to get the damn stuff into the proper “teardrop” shape. 

Note: I had not yet attached whiskers, eyes or tails. 

With the hour approaching nine in the evening, I finally decided this was bullshit and I was nOT doing this alone. So I screeched my ex over to help me shape these stupid mice so I could start adding eyes and tails to the ones already neatly laid out on parchment paper. 

As my brother is a Helpful Being, he floured up and delved into the dough as well, commenting in surprise on how damn stiff it was. No really?

The first problem was that the chocolate chip eyes wouldn’t stick. The dough was too dry--never mind that I had measured ingredients PRECISELY--and didn’t yield well to a thumb shoved into it to make a divot for the damn eyes. Shane suggested using frosting to make them stick, but LO AND BEHOLD, there was no frosting in the house. 

This, of course, hinted at the second frustration: the tails wouldn’t stick EITHER. And the possibility of them melting a bit and sticking to the parchment paper was making all of us slightly leery of even using them. However, the recipe called for shoestring licorice--we used those peel-apart Twizzlers and in the red flavor because black licorice should be listed as torture imo--and that’s what we were going to do. 

By eleven, the first batch of mice were as ready to go as they would be. As my thumb wasn’t QUITE big enough to make divots that would hold the fucking chocolate chips, Shane had gouged holes in all the mice leaving them with eye sockets that took up half their heads. 

But the chips stayed put so fuck it. 

Well aware that we’d managed the two dozen the recipe called for, all of us knew that we were going to be up for a while to make the second batch. There were only three baking sheets in the house, so making another batch would’ve been pointless as we had to wait for the baking sheets to be free anyway. Tossing the first lot into the oven, there was a collective movement outdoors to smoke, get some night air and wake up a bit before tackling the next batch. 

Now staying up all night in a child-free household is easy enough: crank up some music, make some coffee and get active in whatever room you’re stuck in. However, music was not an option because a) my brother and I both like rock and metal and b) my niece and nephew would have popped awake and tried to “join the fun.”

Baking chocolate mice was trial enough without dealing with 18 month old twins trying to “help.” We were sans music. But coffee was possible, so Shane brewed a pot while we waited to see what the first batch of mice were going to be.

...they were not a success. 

The divots that Shane had gouged in their skulls had either contracted and popped the fucking chips right out or had expanded to turn their heads into little bits of cookie with puddles of melted chocolate leering up at us. Some of the tails had melted into fans of gooey red sludge; the cookies themselves were dry as fuck and crumbled the moment we tried biting into them. 

As it turned out, Brilliant Baker had read the recipe wrong and hadn’t included enough oil OR milk for the god damn batch. 

Glorious. 

Nearing midnight, Shane was scraping the Fail Mice off the parchment paper in the backyard and my ex and I were CAREFULLY reading and measuring out the ingredients for the next batch of batter. When my ex counted the shoestring licorice, we realized we didn’t have enough to cover the fail batch and had to halve the length. 

Stubby-butt mice. Whatever. 

As the Christmas Cookie Exchange was scheduled for EIGHT IN THE MORNING on a fucking SUNDAY--what the hell Southern women--and it’d already taken about three damn hours for the first batch, we went to with a will. Correctly Measured Dough was much more malleable; this time the chocolate chips stuck fairly well. 

Attempting to Get Organized, I scooped dough and shaped mice, Shane added eyes and my ex handled the tails. 

This did not speed things up. At all. 

Chugging coffee and frantically shaping mice was making us all a little twitchy. Catastrophe was inevitable. And, of course, it was MY doing when I made a wild gesture and slammed my hand down on the table for emphasis. 

Right onto the edge of a baking sheet. 

Cue flying mice. 

As my sister-in-law was a) an RN and b) paranoid about her children encountering anything approaching a germ, the floor HAD been scrubbed with hospital-strength cleaner. However, there was no way I could, with a straight face, present my sister-in-law’s peers with floormice. 

An hour’s worth of strenuous effort joined the previous failures in the backyard and I mixed up another batch of dough. All baking sheets were moved to the CENTER of the table and out of Flail Range. 

My brother, my ex and I had been up since fairly early in the morning and the clock was rounding on 1 A.M. While they could be certain of something approaching sleeping in--or at least my ex could; Shane would be stuck dealing with his twins at an undoubtedly ungodly hour--I was going to be “voluntarily” pushed into being Social with Strangers on next to no sleep.

We wanted these cookies done. 

Effort was PUT FORTH; completing the next batch for the oven was accomplished before two A.M. and into the oven those motherfuckers went. 

The recipe had been followed. Our chocolate chips had stayed put. We had even fitted a few extra mice onto each sheet in desperate hopes that maybe we’d only have to go through this hell one more time. Spirits were running about as high as possible for three people--two of which hadn’t counted on being dragged into a baking fiasco; one of which hadn’t wanted to even START it--at two in the morning. 

We chugged more coffee, smoked more cigarettes and shambled back into the kitchen to wait for the timer. Determined to get this DONE, we utilized the time to get out the parchment paper, mix another batch of dough and start pre-shaping the little fucks while we had a chance. 

The timer went off and we surged to the oven to reap the rewards of our effort. 

And were faced with what I can only describe as a Chocolate Rat King. 

No, seriously. I mean a fucking rat king made out of chocolate mouse cookies. 

In his efforts to maximize space on the baking sheet and increase the number of mice we could bake, my ex had put mice anywhere they would fit. The cookies hadn’t spread in the previous batch, so it stood to form that we’d be golden even if they had to squish a bit. Not all of the licorice tails had turned into unrecognizable blurs of goo; it was a sound decision at the time. 

However, the mice he had fitted together--with my enthusiastic “yeah sure wherever they fit”--had become a goddamn rat king. Not only had the shoestring licorice tails melted together, but they’d run in such a way as to glue the fucking cookies together in this unrecognizable wad of chocolate cookie lumps--complete with charming chocolate chip eyes--and red sugary goo. 

We just stared at it. Whether it was in astonishment, abject horror or resigned despair, I can’t say. We just stared. 

At this point in the early morning, none of us were capable of the kind of reaction that this monstrosity truly deserved. Sleep was not going to happen. Cookies had to be baked. Hours were flying past. We could not afford to dwell on the understandable “How the fuck” question that we were all silently asking. 

Once again, Shane peeled failure from the parchment paper and hurled it into the tall grass of the backyard, hopefully never to be seen by mankind again. 

By five o’clock in the morning, we’d consumed three pots of coffee, failed three times and managed to create a bare two dozen successful fucking mice--we decapitated probably a dozen while trying to give them those damn toothpick whiskers--that were stuffed unceremoniously into the festive little tin. 

Shane stumbled to bed. My ex and I made it (somehow) across the street and to our own bed. 

...and my sister-in-law woke me up at seven thirty with a cheerful bout of wild honking from the front yard to get over to the Christmas Cookie Exchange early in order to help the hostess set up. 

Of course, everyone thought the cookies were charming. 

I kept one to take outside the house and stomp into oblivion.

A/N: I reallllly liked this one I had so much fun writing it omg! Also most of the stories I write are gender neutral unless specified by asker. I’m sorry it’s so short I didn’t want to put too much in that wasn’t requested.

You nearly broke your neck racing up the stairs from the front door, hearing Sherlock yell out for help was an emergency, and one worth dropping the groceries for.

“Sherlock! What’s wrong?” After whipping into the living room, you saw him standing there with a butterfly net raised as though he froze mid strike.

“Wha- why did you just-”

“Shh, don't move.” Something on the floor had caught his eyes, and a small squeaking cam from under his chair, in one swift movement his chair was turned over and the net scooped up a small, white, fuzzy mouse. You walked over to ask why there were mice in your flat, but he read your mind and answered it.

“The mice have escaped, I need your help catching them.” He made his way to the kitchen and dropped the mouse into a box with one black mouse, and another salt and peppered. You did not bother asking any questions after that, the groceries were long forgotten as you tried to keep the mice infestation contained. Of course, this did not go without a problem, you would both dive for one and usually you were quicker than he was and ended up with him on top of you. One of the many situations had involved you on all fours and Sherlock ending up behind you on his knees, after you caught the little mouse you realized the position, and he seemed to realize right when you did. You both quickly stood up, and you found a beautifully deep crimson blush framed by Sherlock’s pale cheekbones. After putting the little salt and peppered mouse back in the bowl, you continued on catching until you had gotten another three.

“What were you doing with all these mice? Actually I don't want to know, I do want to know how many more do we need to catch?” Realizing after twenty minutes, you had forgotten the week’s groceries at the bottom of the steps, you decided to retrieve them not only because they needed to be put away, but you weren’t sure how many more entanglements Sherlock could stand; the blush now seemed permanently plastered to his face.

Only one left, it’s mocking me, it knows it’s escaped and is laughing at me.” He was perched on your chair, which had previously belonged to John, with the net again raised, ready to strike at a moment’s notice. The scene humored you and as you brought the groceries up to the kitchen counter, sitting right there, was a small pure white mouse looking up at you with red beady eyes. Putting the mouse back in the container with the others, a devilish plan arose, the perfect prank. You were not sure if he would fall for it after all, it was Sherlock Holmes, but quickly you grabbed your phone and played mice noises for the next ten minutes. Your face was red and you were on the verge of tears trying to keep your laughter in, but alas you slipped up and he immediately turned to you in suspicion. Bursting out with laughter when he counted all the mice and put two and two together when he noticed your phone in hand, through teary eyes you could feel his eyes filled with fire as he stared you down. You just pranked the one and only, Sherlock Holmes.

“You’ve no idea what horrors await you from now on.” He walked up to your still laughing figure, and smiled an awfully sickening smile, one filled with nothing put insanity and terrible pranks. You were done for; the last resort was to try and reason your way out.

“Sherlock please, it was a harmless little prank, let’s not blow this out of proportion.” You hugged his torso and stood on your toes to whisper, “besides I thought we could have a bit of fun tonight after all those little mishaps while catching mice.” you knew his weak spots, and you saw him mentally cursing himself for having them.

“Fine, but this is far from over.” With that, you two clambered off to the bedroom, until you accidentally hit the container of mice sending them all over the floor. They all reacted before both of you, finding every nook and cranny to hide in for a second time. Both of you sighed as Sherlock went to get the butterfly net again; never a  moment of rest in 221b Baker Street

I've been busy seeing over the mice introductions but here's a little sneak peek into the bunch.

We've of course got my old man Hamid in the middle of the box and then, ironically stacked by size, from smallest to biggest: Archie, Madge, James and Watson (who this is mainly for given his roommate is a senior citizen).

Accidentally kicked a mouse out of a tunnel (as in, lifted up the presumed empty tunnel and gently tilt it to get rid of bedding inside it) and out of all the mice it was poor Watson 😭😭 he's already so shy and skittish and I feel so bad about him like Watson baby boy I'm so fucking sorry i thought you were asleep in your nest like everyone else!!!
