I’m so incredibly thankful to each artist/label for not only entrusting me with their art but also keeping my career and the studio alive in a really tough time for everyone. One of my favorite pedals of all time. This is an original 1970’s @ehx Micro Synthesizer pedal. I’ve had this for probably 15 years. For 8 years I had rented this room out to two of my dear friends. It gave me a lot of pride to know that it was being used to put more music out than even I had a part in. Jan 1 of this year I found myself with an empty room and decided I would put my records, a turntable, some speakers, a few guitars and some unused furniture in here. It was the best decision because this room has become my sanctuary to refill the well. This room is for intake, not output. I love sitting in here by myself and listening to great recordings. I look at the doorway and know that if I walk through that there is an entire studio totally capable of making recordings great enough to be in this room alongside the records I’ve collected. The main thing keeping that from happening is me. I want my records to be good enough to be in THIS room!!! Can they? Sure. Will they? Kind words from a stranger come just when they’re needed most. Thank you. ❤️ As my dad would say “you’re in some tall cotton”. This was a special time in my touring life....those shows did really hit a level I was striving for. Improvisation and bursts of energy that would move the whole room. My time in @overtherhinemusic was magical and played a huge part in my shift to the studio. I am grateful for every moment. But these live moments were both special and fleeting. I miss playing shows. Now more than ever. Might need to change that when things get normal. Ps mark knopfler is top 5 and to be in the same breath as him is mindblowing. Late 2019 my good buddy and Atlanta artist @mikekinnebrew hired me to put together a band, rehearse, produce, and mix a live record. We recorded two sold out shows at the legendary @eddiesattic in January. It was a really fun adventure. Then the pandemic hit. Mike and I finished the record over email in quarantine. As hard as it was, it kept us honest. What you hear is what the crowd heard at those shows. Really proud of mike and the band. Mike, congratulations. You did it brother. I’ve spent the last hour trying to find the words to sum up how I feel about making this record. I can’t find the right words. Liz, you are the complete definition of what it means to be a true artist. I’m honored to have walked with you through such a crazy journey to this moment. You did it. And you did it without compromise. I hear that in the music and so does everyone else. Congrats on finding your wings and jumping off the cliff. How does it feel to fly?!?!?! Been quiet on here lately. Honestly it’s because I’ve been buried in the studio. I’m so incredibly thankful to be working during these Covid days. It’s different, kinda weird, and definitely challenging. A lot of people hurting bad out there. A lot of loss. I’m incredibly blessed to continue to make music. I don’t take that lightly. So I guess I just don’t really feel like promoting on here right now. But I found this picture of my first paid gig ever and thought it would be fun to talk about. I was 16 and had my own license. Drove myself to the “gig” and made a hundred bucks to play a bunch of covers in the Teen Wing of the jackson country club pool. For wet kids in swimsuits eating push-up pops. Some highlights were changing the lyrics to Tom Petty because I felt guilty about singing “oh my my, oh hell yes”, trying to be louder than the donkey kong console, and soloing on EVERY song. Why do I post about this? Because right now it’s important to remember where we were, where we are, and where we’re headed. Today is not forever. Seasons change. Tomorrow is a new day. So take heart in the promise that the sun will rise again, and one day things will be different. And maybe then you’ll be able to afford a band.
