F4U Corsair - The Whistling Death

The F4U in World of Warplanes is a Tier VI Carrier-based Fighter.

The plane had an outstanding success rate. Exact numbers are disputed, but some texts state the plane managed eleven victories for every Corsair lost in air-to-air combat. Sadly a lot more were lost to anti-aircraft fire, reflecting their common use as fighter-bombers. However, the Japanese considered the plane to be a serious threat and nicknamed it ‘Whistling Death’ due to the distinctive high-pitched sound made by wind through the engine vents.

On the left is him during WWII on the Eastern Front, circa 1942. On the right is him in the late 1990's My grandfather fought in war from age 17. He was a lieutenant and was launching rockets from Katyusha (a Russian rocket launcher.) My grandfather was in Prague when the war ended 5-9-1945. After the war, he married my grandmother Klara and they had three children, the youngest of the three being my dad. My grandfather is and always will be my hero. Got a wooden crate down from mother-in-law’s attic. It was supposed to house an old typewriter that I was thinking of using as a prop for our Explorer Party. For some reason, the lid was held on with a number of screws. When I removed them, no typewriter or trapped spirits were found ... but something much better. ... solid gold bars ... also not found. Actually, I guess it was trapped spirits, for what I found was a cache of memorabilia (primary sources Abby Cox) of my wife’s ( @wendycox2428 ) father’s family. Seems like mostly from the late 1920’s to late 1930’s. Family photos. Letters. Makeup. Newspapers. Things.: . Licenses: 1935 Indiana drivers license.
