also like i’m still annoyed about the “oooo. but do you like engineering??” incident bc that statement isn’t restricted to People Of A Certain Age/Generation, the girl who told me that yesterday is fully two years younger than me. and the underlying issue is what annoys me is that someone younger than me can be so patronizing and it really does imply that it’s unimaginable that my frail female mind could possibly enjoy something as manly and strenuous as engineering. fucking dumb sorry

#like my parents aren’t perfect. but i love how they never ever gave in to the notion that some topics aren’t acceptable for girls #they believed and interpreted their faith to justify that everyone is given intellect and knowledge is not restricted to genders #they were willing to encourage me whatever path i chose and dad was especially pleased i took up engineering #because it was another place we could connect and talk about things #and my mom might not be 100% into my chosen field but growing up i didn’t really have a lot of toys. i did have a lot of books #and the books were about trains. and dinosaurs. and history. and the human body. and animals #she raised me very gender neutrally and i wasn’t restricted from learning anything ‘because i was a girl’#bc she believed that the worst thing to have was an ignorant child #like sometimes i don’t feel that much connected to any sort of womanhood or whatever but then shit like this happens and im like yeah women!#anyways. yeah
