Kinktober Day 1
Somno/Sleepy Sex with Argbur/Editor Wilbur
warnings for somnophilia, dubcon, unsafe sex
------
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say you’re used to sharing a bed with your roommate, at this point. Between the failing electricity your landlord never got around to replacing and the below zero temperatures the winter brought, you’re both desensitized to grabbing your blankets and crawling into the other’s bed for warmth. Maybe for comfort sometimes, too.
He’s been gone more, lately. Out for days at a time, working on a project of his. You’re happy for him, in many ways, glad he has something to be passionate about, like this. But god, you wish he’d at least text you back and let you know he’s okay, especially on days like these when the already frigid temperature drops into the kind of cold that feels unreal. You check your phone as you double check the locks before bed, sighing at the lack of new notifications, and resign yourself to getting extra blankets out of storage to block out the cold.
You don’t really know when you fell asleep, your phone slipping out of your hand and falling under your pillows, but you become aware of it when you’re ripped from it by a loud noise. The room is pitch black, making you blink hard as your brain stutters, thinking you hadn’t opened your eyes yet, the absence of the lights of your electronics gone. Another blackout.
You startle when your bedroom door opens, but you feel only relief when you see Wilbur, buried in blankets, his phone flashlight on as he staggers into the room. You scoot over in bed automatically, letting him collapse next to you. He groans dramatically as he does, burrowing closer to where you were asleep, leeching off the warmth there, and you huff a laugh. He’s always craved warmth, almost desperately.
You move his phone so it’s lighting up the room, and start helping him bundle in, frowning when you realize he’s still wearing his coat and shoes. It takes some convincing to pull his face out of your blankets, but you manage to bully him into taking off his outerwear, pulling him back into bed the moment he’s done.
His phone light turns off as the battery dies, and you’re left lying together in darkness, face to face, blankets pulled up over your heads to keep in the warmth.
There’s a moment of silence.
“I’m home, by the way.”
You hide your laugh in your pillow, “I never would have guessed! Welcome home, Wil.”
You ask him how his project is going, listening to him ramble about it as you doze off. He never goes into the details, tries to be vague about it in a way that tips you off that it’s probably more than a little creepy, but you’re long used to him. You let his voice lull you back into sleep, sighing contently as you register the smell of some kind of cologne, and your last amused thought is that he must have put some on before coming home.
------
When you wake up again, it’s still dark, and you’re unwilling to spend enough time outside the blankets to check the power. In your sleep, you’ve changed positions. Wilbur’s arms tight around your waist, dragging you back into his chest, his face tucked into the nape of your neck. It’s endearing, the way he always ends up clinging to you.
You almost slip back into sleep, your eyes heavy and your roommate comfortable, when he shifts in his sleep, the hot breath of a sigh against your skin making you shiver. Then you feel the press of his hips, and your cheeks flush hot. God, he’s so hard, his hips rocking gently into yours as his grip tightens momentarily. You breathe out shakily, a hand fisting in the sheets as you hide your hot face in the pillow.
Your relationship with Wilbur has never gone there, before. He’s always been gorgeous, even when he’s a mess, and you can’t deny you’ve thought about it before, but you’ve never been brave enough to say something. You should pull away now, pretend it never happened, that you never guiltily basked in the way he pulled you close to grind against you in his sleep.
But you don’t.
You don’t, instead taking a shaking breath and experimentally rocking back against him, savoring in the way his hands fist in your sleep shirt, in the quiet, low groan against the back of your neck. It feels like sin, and you almost want to cry, that this is all you’ll get, that you’re such a pervert you’ve resorted to this.
You’re so caught up in it, the feeling of his cock pressed against you, the thought of more with him, that you barely notice when he goes still behind you, your hips still rocking back lazily. You do notice, however, the sharp breath he takes, and the quiet curse he lets out. The drawn out fuuuuck in a voice heavy with sleep is intoxicating, and you whimper before you can register that you should be pretending to sleep, pretending you’re not- not this kind of creep.
Wilbur is still behind you, and you think he’s even stopped breathing with how quiet he’s gone. You can feel tears of embarrassment pricking at your eyes, making you squeeze them shut, biting your lip at the thought of the conversation you’ll be having. Your mind is running, spiraling into anxiety and worst case scenarios, images of Wilbur calling you names, demanding you move out.
Then, his hands are tight on your hips, and he’s rolling his hips deliberately into yours once, twice, experimental and hard. The sudden stimulation makes you choke, half gasp and half whine of his name. You barely have time to process how you’ve given yourself away, because he’s groaning, loud and needy, and then his face is buried in your neck, pressing soft kisses over your pulse point.
“You’re- god- you’re awake, fuck… You want this, don’t you sweetheart?”
Your gasping reply is a needy whine of his name, a shy please as you tilt your head to give him better access to your throat, a squeak as he groans and nips at your skin. His hands slip up under your shirt, skimming over your stomach and up to grope your chest with greedy fingers. The way he squeezes your tits, pinching and rolling your nipples gently, has you squirming against him, torn between pressing back into him more and arching your chest into his hands.
You can barely think past your own desperation, barely comprehend the words Wil is saying, the steady stream of desperate filth spilling from his lips between harsh bites and soft kisses. All you know is he’s wanted this for ages and you have no idea why he’s not inside you already. When you voice this, he goes still for a moment. Then, you’re being flipped onto your back, his hands sturdy and firm as he squeezes your thighs, settling between them and thrusting against you, only a few layers of cloth keeping you apart.
He stays like that for what feels like eternity, languidly grinding against you and listening to you whine, before he finally pulls away, just far enough to strip you down, abandoning your bottoms to the ocean of blankets but only shoving your shirt up enough to expose your chest.
You’re half expecting him to fuck into you right away, desperation making both your hands shake, but instead he tucks his face into your neck to mouth at your skin as he slides a finger, then two inside you. You tangle your hands in his hair, accidentally pulling as he curls his fingers up and makes you moan, loud and pleading. He preps you methodically, working you into a soaking, needy mess as he does, compliments moaned into your ear the whole time.
When he finally presses the head of his cock against you, you nearly sob. You didn’t know you could get this wet, but when he pushes in it’s effortless, filling you so perfectly your mind shorts out. He bottoms out and you’re in nirvana, in heaven, in every form of paradise all at once. You’re so full and he’s so deep inside you, he’s everywhere, cold hands smoothing over your hips and his mouth on your chest, pressing wet kisses down towards your ribs.
He rocks into you, gentle and sweet, and god, if it isn’t everything you’ve ever needed. His breath is shaky, moans slipping out through his stuttered praise, and it’s so clear he’s trying to hold back, trying to be good for you, and it’s so sweet you could almost cry.
Instead, you hook your legs behind his back and beg him to fucking ruin you.
He sobs on a moan, and obliges you, quickly shifting the pace until he’s pounding into you, making you wail. He pushes you over the edge so fast, and when you come it’s to a snarled chorus of mine, mine, mine.
He fucks into you almost mercilessly, lost in pleasure, and all you can do is cling, squeezing tight around him, and when he finally chokes on a final moan and comes, it’s to your needy plea for him to come inside, Wil- please!
He presses his forehead to yours as he comes down from the high, collapsing on top of you, only to roll to the side so you’re held by him again, and you nuzzle into his neck as you breathe.
You’ll have to talk, in the morning when you can both be clear headed adults, but for now you sink into his hold and savor the touch. He feels warm, a rarity for him, and you can feel his cum hot on your thigh as it leaks out of you. It’ll be gross later, but for now it just feels like another mark that proves you’re his.
You slip back into sleep quickly, but before you do, you could almost swear you hear a murmur of I love you.

Behind the Bar
Better Late Than Never | Part 2
Tumblr media
It’s like time’s frozen around the two while they stare at each other behind the bar. Both in complete shock to be seeing the other.
“Hadley.” Jacob breathes out, blinking a few times to make sure he isn’t dreaming.
He takes a moment to study her features. Long gone is the girl who used to hide herself behind her hair. Long gone are the baggy clothes she used to hide her body. There’s no book in her hand, and he wonders if she’s breathing okay because of it. The thought has him grinning.
“Jacob Palmer.” She laughs, shaking her head. She shamelessly checks him out, eyes lingering on his arms for a beat too long. She admires the intricate torch tattooed on his left bicep, the handle etched with a ‘EKP’. Jacob flexes his arms, in hopes of some sort of reaction as he catches her staring, and it makes her blink quickly. She looks back up at him with flushed cheeks and a shy smile. “Never in a million years did I think I’d run into you.”
He laughs, nervously scratching the back of his neck. “I figured you’d skipped town after high school. Got away from all of us riff raff, went off and did bigger and better things.”
It’s after the words tumble out of his mouth does his brain register what he’s just said. Her whole face drops, something flashing through her eyes. It’s the same look she would have when someone gave her shit in high school for liking to read. It was a look he read easily. It was hurt, pain, embarrassment. That look doesn’t last long before she clears her throat. She pulls her shoulders back, standing a little taller. Her eyebrow raises at him in an unimpressed way, her cheeks red hot.
“Wow okay, let me take over this conversation before he sounds like even more of an ass.” Teri interrupts. “I was starting to think you two knowing each other was a good thing, now I’m rethinking who I have Hadley training with.” She eyes Jacob.
“No.” He blurts. “I’m sorry.” He reaches a soft hand out to Hadley. He touches her wrist, her eyes flicking to his touch and then back up to his face. “I didn’t mean it like that. I swear.” He desperately says, chest tightening in panic. “Wow, I’m a fucking idiot.” He mutters to himself, but both women hear, nodding right along with him. “What I meant was, I never thought I’d see you again. And I’m glad that I am.” He gives a small smile, thumb rubbing on the pulse point of her wrist.
It’s a soft touch, a welcome touch. Hadley can’t remember the last time she felt something like this.
“Right after high school was a bad time for me.” She says too quickly, gently taking her wrist from his hand. “But I’m doing bigger and better things now. I’m past the bad times.”
There’s a story there, and it’s got Jacob intrigued. He squints at her for a moment, trying to see if he can read it through her body language. He likes to think he’s always been a good judge of character, but he can’t read her. Something’s off, something is totally different than the Hadley he went to high school with. He just can’t quite tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
“Okay, well, while I love the reunion, we kind of have a busy house tonight.” Teri brings both of their attention to herself. “So Stevens has been behind a bar before,” She explains to Jacob. “Just nothing to our caliber. Show her the ropes, teach her the drinks, explain the tab system. I pulled Hawkins,” She points to Chelsea, who’s making a drink. “From the floor to give you some backup while you train Stevens.”
Jacob nods, giving Teri a mock salute. “You got it Captain.” He grins, watching Teri roll her eyes and flip him off at the same time. “At ease soldier.” He teases.
“Stevens.” She looks to Hadley. “By mid shift I want you on your own. I know you’ll need some more training, but we don’t have time for Jacob to hold your hand all night.” She shrugs. “He’s my best bartender, which is why I let him run it back here, and we’ve got 2 bachelor parties coming in. Also, the college down the road let out on spring break, so expect a lot of frat boys.” She points to both of them. “I want all ID’s checked at the bar, you hear me?”
Hadley nods, and Jacob gives another sarcastic salute.
“Boy you’re gonna lose your job tonight.” Teri warns him.
“Oh come on Ter, I almost lose my job every night. You just love me too much to let me go.” He winks.
“Last but not least,” Teri ignores Jacob, turning back to Hadley. “If you have any trouble you tell Palmer immediately. You got me?”
Jacob nods, turning to face Hadley. “Hads.” He says softly, gently touching her shoulder to catch her attention. Her big brown eyes flick up to his stubbly face, holding all the innocence she’s always had. “If someone looks at you funny, says something that makes your skin crawl, anything that makes you feel unsafe you scream my name like it’s the last word you’ll ever be able to say. I’m not joking, okay?”
“Okay.” She nods, at both Jacob and Teri. “I got it.” She assures them, although in the back of her head she can’t help but think that no one can be worse than Brody. No one can make her feel the way Brody did. The thought of his name alone makes her want to claw out of her skin and burn it.
Teri nods at them. Turning on her heels and walking off without another word. She’s off to check in on all the girls working the floor. Making sure patrons are keeping their hands to themselves, respecting her staff. Who needs more than one bouncer when you have Teri running the show.
“Here,” Jacob hands Hadley a spare apron from the hook behind the bar. “It’s nice to keep like a pen, notepad, straws and shit like that on hand. Usually on slow nights I hide my phone in there too, that way if I need to be reached I can be.”
Hadley watches him intently while tying the apron around her waist. She follows him as he quickly goes up to the bar.
“Hey man,” He greets a customer. “How are you?”
“Jake!” The customer cheers. He looks dirty, long hair that’s going gray. He’s skinny, unnaturally skinny. He’s wearing a black Motley Crue shirt, it’s tucking into his skinny jeans. “I was hoping you were working tonight.”
“Ryan, this is Hadley.” Jacob introduces her. “She’s a new tender,” He explains, slapping Ryan’s outstretched hand away. “Be nice.” He warns. He then turns to Hadley. “This is Ryan, our biggest regular. He doesn’t bite, unless you ask.”
Ryan sends a flirty wink to Hadley, one side of his mouth lifting into a grin, showing off his yellow teeth.
“Do I wanna know how you know that?” She asks Jacob, eyes bouncing back and forth between them.
Ryan barks out a laugh, hand coming down to slap at the top of the counter. “That was good. She’ll survive here, seems like she keeps on her toes.” He states, pointing at her but looking at Jacob.
“Well,” Hadley pushes in front of Jacob, pushing a black cocktail napkin on the countertop. “You can speak to me like I’m right here, because I am.” She points to herself. “Unless you’re three shots in, then there might be three of me. You seem like a lightweight.”
Ryan stands straight, both hands settling on the countertop as he glares at her. Jacob stands behind her, trying to hold back his laugh. “Whiskey sour.” He orders.
“Okay.” She smiles, getting to work on his drink. “So you’re the biggest regular? What’s that mean?”
“Well when the doors open? I’m the first in. When they close at night? I’m the last out.” He grins, arms crossing against his chest like that’s the highest you can get in life.
“Oh,” She nods. “Gotcha, well in that case I think I’m gonna call you Gallagher.” She puts the glass on the napkin, sliding it over to him.
“Gallagher?” Ryan asks.
“As in Frank Gallagher.” She explains. “From Shameless.” Nodding to her hand that’s held out for his payment.
“Put it on my tab.” He points with his chin.
“Give me something to start a tab with.” She raises an eyebrow at him.
Ryan grumbles, digging into his back pocket and slapping his debit card into her hand.
“Thanks Gallagher, enjoy your drink.” She smiles, turning around and running smack into Jacob. “Oh shit, sorry.” She looks up at him. “I forgot you were there.” She blurts.
“Do I even need to train you?” He asks, a smile bright on his face. He’s highly impressed with the way she handled Ryan. He can get lippy, and try to get away with claiming he’s already paid.
“I mean,” She shrugs. “I worked at a bar straight out of high school. Needed something to pay the bills. It’s been a few years since I’ve been behind the bar but it’s like riding a bike. Skills never go away, all customers are the same.”
“Okay, well then, do your thing. If you need anything just holler.” He nods, turning to get started with the group of guys that just crowded the right corner.
**
By the time the bar is closed Hadley has created a spot for herself behind the bar. They had a few learning curves for working around each other but by the middle of the shift Teri was able to put Chelsea back on the floor. It was like they’d been partners working together for years. It just flowed, they understood the others' notes on things, they didn’t argue or have issues helping the others customers.
Personally, that’s where the awkwardness comes in. They didn’t talk at all during the night. There was never a down moment to talk. So it makes the two of them alone in the back break area very quiet. The tension is thick, and Jacob can’t stop looking at her, and she can’t stop trying to avoid his stare.
“So,” Jacob speaks up, leaning his back against the lockers. “Did you just move back?”
“Um yeah.” She answers, pulling her hoodie over her head. “I moved to Washington with my boyfriend,” She stops herself. “Well now ex boyfriend. He got accepted to Washington State, and I planned on going to a community college.”
He perks up, loving how easily she opens up to him. “What’d you study?” He asks, turning to grab his phone and wallet.
“That’s just the thing,” She grimaces, “He went to school, we got an apartment, but with his full work course who was gonna bring home money to pay the bills? So I got a job, told him I’d start school later, except later never came.” She brushes over her past quickly.
Jacob can tell there’s a more in-depth story there. That there’s more in the dark parts that she won’t shine light too.
“What happened?” He asks, following her to the front of the bar where Teri was finishing closing up.
She laughs in a self depreciating way. “It’s a long story Jacob, it’s okay.” She waves him off.
“I’d like to-” He starts, being interrupted.
“Make sure you have your tips everyone! Let’s go.” Teri calls out.
They all crowd the door, waiting for Teri to unlock it. Everyone shuffles out, soft mumbles floating through the quiet calm of the night outside. Jacob stays behind, waiting for Teri to lock back up.
“Make sure you get some good groceries okay? I saw the way those sorority girls were tipping you. Make sure you get fruit loops, she’s been going crazy for them lately.” Teri says over her shoulder.
They walk together to their cars. Jacob always makes sure to park next to Teri, that way he can ensure she gets to her vehicle safely. He’s about to duck into his car when he catches a glimpse of Hadley walking down the sidewalk.
She's holding tightly to her bag that’s slung across her shoulder. Body huddled in on itself as a way to fight off the cold of the night.
“Hads!” He calls out, watching her jump and then look over at him. He didn’t mean to scare her, but if it got her attention he’d do it again. “The fuck are you doing?” He asks.
“Going home?” She jabs a thumb over her shoulder, pointing in the direction she was walking.
“On foot?” He questions, receiving a nod. “At 2:30 in the morning?” Another nod. “Are you out of your goddamn mind?”
“How else would you like me to get home?” She asks, throwing her arms out to her sides.
“Get in.” He tilts his head towards his car.
“I can’t ask you to do that.” She shakes her head, silently hoping he’ll leave her be.
“You aren’t asking, I’m telling you to get in my fucking car. I’m not letting you walk home at 2:30 in the morning alone.”
She sighs, weighing her options. Does she let Jacob take her home, allowing him to find out she lives in her mother's old trailer? The trailer that housed her most of her high school days? The trailer that her mother so graciously left her when she went on a bender that ended up killing her?
Or does she walk home and risk that someone else finds her and forces her a ride to god knows where?
One option is better than the other. The better option leaves her embarrassed and wishing she’ll never see Jacob again. The other leaves her dead in a ditch somewhere. With that revelation she makes her way over to his Camry. He smiles when she starts walking towards him, and it’s a smile that makes her stomach fill with butterflies. The same way it did when she was in high school.
He quickly gets in, leaning over to the passenger seat and opens the door from the inside. He grins sheepishly when she slides into the seat.
“Sorry.” He breathes out. “The handles broken from the outside.”
She laughs, and shakes her head. “What happened to the Jacob Palmer who rode his Harley to school everyday?” She asks, looking over at him.
“Life happens.” He shrugs, cranking his key three times before he can get the engine to turn over.
She eyes him suspiciously, seeing how much he’s aged since they graduated. He’s got a story behind his tired eyes, and worry caused wrinkles. It’s a story she wants to hear, and she’s 100 percent sure it’s a story she would have never guessed would be his to tell.
“So,” He turns to look at her once the windshield is defrosted enough to see through. “Where to?” His devilish smirk on his handsome face as her thinking maybe she should have gone with the other option.

Note
Death had always been a finite concept. For both of them, presumably, but especially for Carly. Death was something she had to deal with far too regularly for her tastes (comes with the territory when you have a habit of marrying mobsters), despite her hatred of it.
Shootings, she could handle. And did, shockingly well. Despite the fact she couldn't handle being in a stable situation for more than a day, she was great in a crisis.
Of course, the fact she had Jason there was helpful. She felt unsafe, she called him and it was like she had her own personal body guard. It was, in a very strange way, nice to know he wouldn't hesitate to kill for her and has done it repeatedly in the past.
The deaths of the people who tried to kill her (or him, especially him- she prayed those bastards got the worst treatment they could) were the only ones she could handle.
It's a bit ironic she got killed from a shooting, three hours and twenty three minutes after Jason died, in a weird way. She always said she'd kill for him (realistically she knew he'd lose his shit if she ever did that because he's overprotective and hasn't taught her how to use a gun), and that's exactly what she did. He got shot right in front of her, she grabbed his gun while he was yelling at her not to and shot the person.
Slight problem though, she too got shot. Whoopsie daisies.
Getting shot fucking hurt. She was in and out of consciousness when she was at the hospital and no one would tell her about Jason's condition. They were married, for fuck's sakes, why the fuck wasn't anyone telling her how her husband was doing?!
Eventually, someone (probably Monica, she can't remember) told her he was dead. They got to him too late, they said, he'd been doa and their best efforts hadn't revived him.
After hearing that, she couldn't live with herself. He got shot because Vince was trying to shoot her and off he went to be her hero and make everything okay and he got killed. One phone call and he was at the Metro Court, hanging out with her and keeping watch when he noticed Vince in the parking lot and went out there to confront him. Vince pointed a gun at Carly and, of course, since Jason's a self sacrificing person, he died.
Which meant she was directly responsible for his death and that rocked her to her very core. She'd failed him. After twenty five years, she failed him. Even he'd have to admit this one. There was no spin on this (and she'd heard some strange ones over the years) for how she'd be able to live with herself after she failed him. It wasn't like she'd done something stupid, no, she got him killed. Carly knew he'd do something, especially since Vince was a dick, and she told him. Did he deserve to know? Yes. But only after she'd reassured his overprotective streak she'd be fine and he didn't have to kill anyone else for her.
According to something she'd heard from the doctors, in whatever fucking limbo this was, Carly had died of a heart attack. Likely brought on by stress. Bullets were fine but hearing of Jason's death killed her.
Yup, makes sense. Well, she'll be able to apologize for all of eternity once she gets to wherever she's going. Even after he forgives her (which, she's being honest, will happen as soon as they see each other), she's going to apologize and apologize.
Ooh, she gets to see Sonny and Morgan too! Her son and husband and best friend for all of eternity. What could be better?
There's something that vaguely looks like an angel and she notices it drags her up. Huh, guess she's going to heaven. Makes sense, Carly's a fairly good person. She's not a terrible one.
Except when she gets there she only finds Morgan and Courtney (Courtney, oh how she missed her), no Jason anywhere. Where the hell was he? Avoiding a party, probably. She has got to get him to go out more, especially now that nothing can probably happen. What are the rules of death?
"Where's Jason?" Carly asks after greeting the pair. They stare blankly until she asks again, "Where is he? He's here, right? I was told he's dead!"
Courtney's the first one to be stunned out of her shock. "Carly, he, um, didn't make the cut."
"For what? Give me that list, I'm adding his name at the very top. Where the fuck is he?" She exclaims. He's here, he's got to be here.
"You're aware of his job, right?" Is she aware of his job, of course she is!
"Yes, Courtney, it's why we got married. Where the hell is he? Or Sonny, or Mike!"
"Mike's taking a nap and Sonny's not dead." What?! "Or, if he is, he didn't make the cut either." Didn't make the cut for what? Carly will scheme, steal, seduce, lie and cheat go get those two up here with her, where the fuck are they?
"Because of Jason's job and the amount of people he killed, he didn't make the cut to heaven. He's in hell." Is it possible to die twice? She might just do that. He's in hell, which is a place for bad people! Her hero is in hell.
She's gonna kill someone. "I'm not perfect! None of us are perfect, I killed someone! Why the hell aren't we down there? He died defending me!"
"Shocking," Morgan says dryly. "Jason killed people for a living. He was a mobster."
"And I'm an accessory to all of that! I lead the mob for a week or two!" Carly exclaims. "He's a good person, we know that."
"We're not in charge of the decisions, Carly," Courtney attempts to comfort her best friend. It's a nice attempt. "That's for people with a lot more clout than us. If it was up to either of us, I promise he'd be here but you'll never see him again."
Never see him again? Oh hell no. "Is there any way to get sent down to hell with him?" This is impulsive and reckless and Jason wouldn't encourage it but she's got less care. She needs to see her best friend again, goddammit."Some paperwork I can file, some people's husband's I can seduce?"
"Someone can submit you for reevaluation."
"Great! Is Emily here?" Emily hates her, she'll surely want to help!
"Somewhere, yeah. Why?"
"Emily hates me. Can't blame her. Anyways, look, I want to help her write my reevaluation. I've ruined a lot of lives."
"Which Jason has always helped you feel better about."
"That's because he's my best friend, Morgan."
The next few weeks are spent making sure every single one of her transgressions is on the list and resubmitting her,,, whatever the hell it's called, Emily never gave details.
So it's really not a surprise when she's dragged down to hell by some gross creature, waving goodbye to her son and Courtney and sister in law (that's a weird thing to think about).
And when she gets there, it's just like a darker version of heaven. It's the same fucking place (away from the fire), just more her color palette. Weird.
"Excuse me, where's Jason Morgan?" She asks the creature who dragged her down here. "I was informed he'd be down here."
A shrug is all she gets in response. Well then, she's able to roll with the punches and searches up and down for him, eventually finding him in a room without decorations or anything but basic necessities.
She's got some decorating on her hands.
Carly walks right through the half opened door (he really didn't lock it? Weirdo) and gets the response of, "Get out."
"Don't expect me to start knocking just because we're dead," she quips, a smile on her face. Knocking is overrated. He looks normal and as he registers what's going on, he gets all squinty.
Once he actually realizes it's her, she's already half attacked him in a hug that he reciprocates. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Little bit of bargaining, Emily's assistance and voila! You'd be amazed at how many bad things I've done. Everyone sends their love, of course. Are there any stores down here? This room is so boring," she changes the subject.
"No, I mean why are you dead? You're supposed to be alive."
"I died three hours and twenty three minutes after you. Heart attack. Monica told me about you dying. No one else would." That was a very bad time when he was dead and she wasn't.
"Does this mean-"
"No, you are not responsible for my death. If anything, I'm responsible for yours. I'm sorry, more than you'll ever know," Carly tells him, eyes welling up with tears.
"You're not responsible. I got shot. It happens." Way too nonchalant for death.
"Because you were defending me, like always. Seriously, take a nice vacation off of that and start using your survival instincts. I don't have Emily to help me this time if I need to transfer afterlives."
"I was defending the business."
"Bullshit. I told you Vince threatened me and you already planned to kill him. You saw your opportunity and instead of shooting him, you got shot and died. This is my fault, 100%, and I will not let you make me feel better about this. You could've patched things up with Britt, hung out with a bunch of people but no, you had to die protecting me. Take a week off of being my hero, please."
"I'm not going to do that. The last time I thought about it, you took over the business."
"Well I can't just ask you to forgive me, so take a day off."
"You'll get kidnapped. And I don't hold you responsible because it was my choice to defend you and my choice to want to kill Vince."
"You're overprotective and it's nice but not when it kills you."
"You spent twenty five years running off every woman in my life because you were convinced they'd hurt me, you hated a ton of people because they did something to me and you almost committed several felonies. And I'm overprotective," he rolls his eyes.
"Not the point, first off and second, you've killed and kidnapped for me. In a very fucked up way, it's sweet. And you totally ran off the men in my life!"
"How did I do that?"
"By being the only person I can depend on. I don't know, look, they've all- except for Sonny, most of the time- hated you because you intimidated them. So you did the same thing, just not on purpose."
"Then it's not the same thing."
"How did we get so off topic? I'm sorry for being the reason you're dead. Do you forgive me?" Strange sentences.
"You're not why I'm dead, I made that choice-"
"You chose to die?"
"I meant the choice to jump in front of you."
"Which was instinctual, you've always protected me."
"Might have to do that even more down here. There's some real creeps."
"I really don't think they'll care that much. But okay."
"Vince is here."
"No revenge."
"He killed you and I'm just supposed to sit here and ignore that he did that?!"
"Maybe we can talk this all out."
"Carly, what part of this aren't you understanding? He killed you. I hurt him, that's how this works, so he knows better than to mess with you."
"Or we could go shop for decor. I'll pick out nice stuff, come on let's go!"
"I'm not going shopping. I'm planning revenge."
"It'll be safer if you're there with me."
"I hate it when you're right."
"Love you too."
"Love you."
The end fuckers :)
oh it's beautiful. thank you for this

Everybody x Reader - Part Four (Angst Warning)
Levi's pov:
What's that banging noise? It's coming from the bottom of that boat. Something heavy is hitting the boat's cabin floor. I have to hurry, (Y/N) has five minutes left and if this is her then I need to attack after calling the others.
Quickly, I put my head to the bottom of the boat and listen. "Someone... please..." cries a female voice. "Brothers? Anybody? Please... save... me."
(Y/N)! Faster than any other time in history, I yank out my DDD and enter the group chat.
In group chat
Levi: Guys, found her! Boat, blue bottom, silver top paint, and black and navy leather. Hurry! I'm going up there! She has three minutes left. The guy is on top of the boat.
Lucifer: We see you. Knock him into the water. Lord Diavolo, Mammon, and I will grab and restrain him. Everybody else is ready. Levi will get either (Y/N) or the whole boat to land. Be ready to help her.
Beel: Lucifer, Mammon, Levi, and Lord Diavolo be careful. This guy knows that we are close to (Y/N).
Barbatos: Agree. He knows who we are, which means he understands demons. Be careful you four.
Levi pov:
Quickly, I log off of my DDD. Time for the hero to save the princess (and get some revenge). Swimming to the side of the boat, I carefully angle myself against the current to match the boat's speed and direction.
With one powerful thrust of my tail, I launch myself onto the boat. The perp turns around eyes wide from my sudden attack. Didn't expect an underwater stealth attack did you. Should've played more strategy simulator games. I land a heavy kick onto his exposed chest, effectively knocking him into the side of his boat.
In a matter of seconds, I find my footing and rush him. Grabbing him by the neck, I lift him up and flip him over the side of the boat and into the churning waters below. His screams throughout my entire attack were like music to my still water-filled ears. Shaking out said water, I turn to see a door hatch leading down below into the cabin of the boat.
Here goes nothing. I'm coming (Y/N).
(Y/N) pov:
Why is there so much banging up there? Oh heavens! He's carrying the materials to kill me! They must be so heavy! I don't want to die like this! Not here!
After a couple of seconds, I hear the door to the cabin open up. The warm rays of sunlight caress my skin, but I can't see a thing. The blindfold is still covering my eyes.
"P-Pweath. P-Pweath donth k-k-kilth m-me." I whimper through the gag, all dignity I had gone.
Suddenly a pair of hands touch my arms, and I flinch barely holding in a scream. "(Y/N)."
"Lw-Lw-Lw-Lwevi?" Tears starting to stream down my face faster than before.
Levi abruptly yanks down the blindfold and I'm greeted by the comforting sight. Before me is the blue-haired, orange-eyed, otaku of a demon. His eyes look so soft right now. He gently tries to remove the gag from my mouth, but it's so tight that he can't just remove it. Next, he tries to untie it, but it's too tight for him to do anything.
"It'll be ok (Y/N). I'm going to get you out of here. He can't hurt you anymore. We're all here. Everything will be alright." he coos.
Suddenly, some noise can be heard from above the deck. A figure slowly starts to duck his way through the door, and Levi stands at the defense to protect us.
"We need to get out of here." states a huffing Beel.
"Bwe-el!" I exclaim.
He rushes over and carefully examines me. "Is there anything that we can get her loose with?"
"I was just looking, but I can't find anything that I don't think will cut her further," states Levi.
Beel looks around and turns his eyes back to Levi. "You need to swim her to the shore now! We don't have any time left! There's a storm rolling in and the water has picked up. The boat is too unsafe to take anywhere now with the currents. The others are at a safe house, and I left Belphie on the bank with a blanket to wrap her up in."
"What about you Beel? How are you getting back if the storm and currents are that bad?" asks Levi, obviously worried and stressed.
"Don't worry about me," exclaims Beel. "I'm strong enough on my own to get myself across, but you need to get going before it picks up for (Y/N)'s safety. You're the stronger swimmer, so she's safer with you."
Levi nods his head and rushes over to me. Gently, he hooks his arms through mine and under my legs. Carefully, he carries me up the stairs to the decktop. Beel wasn't wrong. A huge storm has rolled in and the water is churning below us. Conveniently at that precise moment, rain starts to fall in an utter downpour.
"(Y/N)! I have to jump in! Don't worry! I won't let go, but I need you to try and hold your breath as best as you can! I'll keep you above the water to the best of my ability, ok?" I give him a small nod. "Here we go. Three... Two... One!"
With that, all three of us enter into the water. It hits us in a wave of cold darkness. The current pulls so hard as it tries to whip me downstream, and if it wasn't for Levi's iron grip on me I would've cried out in fear.
I can feel the rough water rushing past us as Levi's strong tail forces us forward, but without his arms, he's struggling. Suddenly, we break the surface and I try my best to calmly breathe through my nose. Looking into his eyes, I see Levi's determination, but even he can't keep this up.
Quickly I yank my arms free and wrap them, still tied, around his neck. I can feel the ties cutting further into my skin, but they're secure.
"(Y/N)! You'll cut further into your arms!" hollers Levi over the water and the wind.
I shake my head at him. "YWOU NWEED WOU'RE AWMS. HUWWY!" I scream through the muffle as best I can.
With that, Levi starts to swim harder and harder. Using his arms, legs, and tail, he expertly maneuvers us through the churning waters. Common sense says that the ropes are definitely drawing blood by now, but my adrenaline is so high that I don't even register the pain. That'll come later.
Eventually, we reach the bank of the churning river. Levi quickly removes my arms and picks me up bridal style so that we can get away from the water's edge. While doing so, Beel jogs over to us. Thank everything holy that he is safe.
A voice yells through the wind, but it's so distorted that you can't make out what it's saying. However, both men whip their heads in that direction and slowly start to make their way in that general direction. I've never been more grateful for their enhanced hearing than I am now.
Out of nowhere, Belphie appears wind whipping through his locks. He has to yell over the now-picked-up wind. "GIVE HER TO ME! WE NEED TO GET HER INSIDE!"
Levi gently hands me over to Belphie who holds me close to his chest. Running, Belphie leads us to a car, warm and ready. Climbing into the front seat, Belphie holds me tightly as he carefully fits me into the passenger seat with himself. Beel jumps into the driver's seat and Levi in the back.
Beel pounds the gas, heading down the street through the rough wind. To be honest, the first thing I thought was: Does Beel even know how to drive?! EEK! Thankfully, he seems to know what he is doing and we make it to a small abandoned house.
Getting out of the car, Belphie carries me to the front door through the whipping wind. Quickly the door swings open as someone inside the small house opens it. Rushing in, the three of us enter and the door is quickly snapped shut to preserve the small fire in the old and decrepit fireplace.
"What are you guys thinking!" exclaims Barbatos in shock. "She's wet! She's going to get a cold and she's still gagged and tied!"
"We didn't have a choice. We've done everything we could up to getting here." defends Levi.
Barbatos rushes over and takes me from Levi, quickly placing me on the old and worn-down couch. "Now (Y/N), relax. You're safe. Give me a few minutes dear. Please, keep your eyes open. Come on dear, don't sleep yet. Just a few more minutes."
True to his word, in less than a minute my mouth was ungagged. "Barb-"
"Save your voice. Just please keep your eyes open. We need to know that you'll be okay. Please keep your eyes open." Barbatos gently whispers.
Through my peripherals, I can vaguely make out Beel, Belphie, Levi, the rest of the brothers, and the other exchange students. The only people missing are Mammon, Lucifer, and Diavolo. Where are they at? I wish they were here also.
"Barbs... where are the others?" I hoarsely whisper.
Asmo walks over and gently rubs his thumb over my forehead. "Lucifer, Mammon, and Lord Diavolo are handling something, but the rest of us are here."
"Are they-" I start.
Asmo nods. "Yes sweetie, they're handling that man. Don't worry. They'll be here soon. Stay awake so you can see them okay."
Looking up above me, Asmo realizes that I want to see him better. He leans over my face, and I'm able to see his beautiful orbs of pink and peach color. His light honey hair drapes his face delicately. His thumb continues to gently massage the side of my forehead.
Suddenly, the ties on my wrists go slack and the rope is removed. I let out a quick hiss of pain. It's only now starting to fully register. My arms feel so heavy, and I can't keep them up. The one rests against the back of the couch, but the other arm slides off of my body and my hand grazes the floorboards.
Abruptly, something incredibly cold touches my limp arm. A shiver shoots through my spine and I try to look and see what it is, but I can't. Asmo prevents me from any form of head movement, gently shaking his head in response. It's so cold, and the wet clothes aren't helping either.
"Shh. Shhh. It's alright (Y/N). I'm just applying some medicine to your wrists. Shhhhhh. Everything will be fine." coos Simeon as he gently rubs the freezing medicine into my wrists.
All at once, all of the physical strain hits me and my eyes suddenly feel so very heavy. I can hear voices. They urge me to stay awake, to talk, but I can't. I need to sleep. I'm so very tired. I try to fight it, but I can't. My eyes slowly lose focus and close, shutting me in a world of dark obscurity.

Kiss 11, IzuOcha
Oh god! I haven’t written BNHA in like...months! Tho tbh, its a nice change of pace! Enjoy! :D
------
Under Wraps [IzuOcha]
------
Prompt: Kiss 11: Public Kiss - IzuOha
------
Context: Ochako is at a press conference, talking about her latest deed - rescuing workers that were trapped in a burning enterprise caused by an ex-employee. While answering questions pertaining to the incident, reporters keep noticing that she liked to pick a certain reporter among the bunch.
------
“-but seeing as we haven’t seen this new skill from you in your previous rescue, does that mean you’ve recently developed it?” A man around her age asked her, his pencil touching his notepad as he looked at her with anticipating emerald eyes.
Ochako managed to make her smile grow wider as she repeated the question to herself, all the reporters in the room noticing how her eyes softened. All cameras that were there quickly captured the moments, a few reports jotting this detail in their books.
It wasn’t the first time this occurred with the Zero Gravity Heroine.
It started four years ago, two years after her Hero debut. Ever since the rookie reporter -Deku- came into the scene, Uravity started to answer more questions, made her press conferences longer and convinced her agency to do more Q&A sections in her conferences that didn’t relate to the recent incident.
Everyone knew that Deku was the reason behind Uravity’s change, but they didn’t know how exactly. After all, what can a Quirkless reporter like him do to change one of Japan’s Top 20 Heroes?
Not only was he Quirkless, he had a horrible sense of fashion. Round glasses, a blazer and hat combo. And no, it wasn’t a fedora or a regular solid colored shirt. It was always, always, some type of hero merch.
Today’s outfit included Creati merch under his brown blazer. Yes, that simple red t-shirt was Creati merch, a matryoshka doll peeping from the breast pocket.
“Yes! Yes I did! I’m so glad that you caught it!” Ochako said with glee, placing her fingers together, making sure her pinkies didn’t touch. Despite having one of her pinkies covered by a single bandaid, it was still a habit Ochako did as a precaution. Old habits die hard after all. “I found out I was able to stabilize the amount of gravity pulling on a person a few months ago and only until this recent rescue was I able to show everyone the efforts placed into developing this skill.”
Ochako watched as the reporter wrote furiously into his notepad, not once looking down. She couldn’t help but notice the breton hat on his head, his hair peeking from under it.
If she remembered correctly, that was the hat he got from when he went to interview the Wild Pussycats. An anniversary report relating to the Waterhose Heroes. A very emotional read now that she remembered.
“And do you plan to keep working on your Quirk?”
“I do! After all, it’s how I perfected this skill.” Ochako looked down at her hands, clenching and unclenching them. She looked at the scars that ran across them, each one a story to them. She looked back up. “Who knows what other skills I have yet to uncover! The only way I can discover them is if I keep working on perfecting my Quirk to save everyone in my reach.” Ochako said with a soft smile, watching as the freckled reporter watched her with starry eyes through his round framed glasses from Creati’s new fashion line.
Red definitely complimented him.
“Seeing as we are running out of time,” the conference planner said, hearing complaints from the myriad of reporters in the auditorium. “We’ll allow one final question pertaining-”
“Is it true you have yet to find a partner, Uravity?” One idiot reporter yelled from the back, all the senior ones groaning in annoyance.
Who’s clown was this? Who forgot to teach this idiot that asking that type of question made a conference end earlier than intended? That it got rid of all opportunity on elongating the already short conference? And why did he think about that question now? Uravity’s Q&A was in two days. Two. Days! Why couldn’t he wait until then to ask that question?
As the conference planner tried to wrap things up, Ochako sighed, grabbing the microphone from her manager, mouthing an apology.
“Can the reporter who said that please come to the front?”
Everyone looked around as they wondered what idiot had asked Uravity the question of the status of her love life.
Everyone groaned as they watched Reo walk up to the stage, the man sporting a grin as he walked up.
Reo - Cupid’s Nightmare. Notorious for digging into every hero’s love life, as if his life depended on it. (It didn’t.) He would do anything to try and grab a scoop, especially when it came to single heroines, but everyone also knew that he had a thing for the anti-gravity hero.
He even admitted it during a panel when he was a guest at Tokyo’s Hero Con last year.
“My ideal girl? Probably Uravity.”
Ochako frowned as Reo stood in front of her, fully knowing where this was going. “Can you repeat your question?”
“I asked if there’s anyone you’re seeing, Uravity.” Reo stated, taking out his phone to record their conversation. “After all, you’re the only heroine in your age group that has yet to find a partner. Being 24 years old, everyone would expect you to be a relationship or at least been through one.” Reo let out a smirk. “Any guy would die to have you, seeing as you haven’t changed a bit since your highschool years.” Reo let out a chuckle before stretching out his phone to Ochako. “So tell us, are you seeing anyone?”
Ochako sighed, wanting to badly roll her eyes, but she knew that it wasn’t worth it.
She had heard of Reo through her friends, Momo and the rest of the girls had warned her about him. How they talked about him finding their old apartment addresses, how he would stalk them, how they had to get restraining orders for him and how he would pester them until they would give him an answer to satisfy his question and make them feel uncomfortable and at times unsafe.
She wasn’t going to let him get his way. Not against her.
“First and foremost, I find it very rude and uncomfortable that my body should be the sole reason as to why someone should ever date me.” Ochako started, her lips a thin line. She hated that Reo still had a grin on his face, as if saying he had finally cornered her. Oh how wrong he was. “But setting that aside, my answer to your question is yes,” oh how she loved the way Reo’s grin fell. How his face paled. “I am seeing someone.”
Gasps filled the room, reporters shouting about who the lucky person was as camera shutters attempted to drown them down. No one watched as a breton hat made its way to the side of the stage.
“As a matter a fact, the two of us are getting married.” Ochako said with a smile, internally grinning as Reo dropped his phone, his eyes wide. “In the timespan of five months, may I add.”
The room soon filled with applause and shouts that congratulated her.
“You’re lying!” Reo shouted, Ochako still smiling. She had already done her part, so she let him go on. “You’re lying! I would’ve known if you were dating some!” Reo blabbered on, not registering as cameras rolled, filming his every word. “You’re just saying this to-”
“Why would she lie about something she greatly respects?”
More clicks and shutters filled the room as everyone stared with wide eyes as they saw Deku on stage, his hand on Uravity’s waist, snuggly pressed against him. “Seeing as you’re her biggest fan, you would think that you would know that Uravity holds marriage with the utmost respect. Or am I wrong, Reo?” Deku asked, a smirk on his face.
“Deku. How-”
“How did I get up here?” Deku tilted his head towards the side stage. “The perks of being her fiance I guess.” The room once again ruptured into shouts.
“Stop lying. The two of you.” Reo gritted through his teeth. He looked at Uravity with round eyes. “Please tell us that you were lying, Uravity. That you were simply saying it so that-”
“-so that people like you would get off her back.” Deku cut off, frowning. “Look man, do you know how frustrating it is to hold myself back every time someone kept hitting on her? How hard it was to pretend like I was just another face in the crowd? That I couldn’t punch you for saying countless disturbing things to my girlfriend?”
“Girlfriend?” Reo asked, looking at the smirk on Uravity’s face. “You’ve never-”
“Interacted with her? Um, sorry to disappoint, but I have?” Deku pretended to count his fingers. “Have been for the past five years. We’ve been dating for the past four though.”
“How can that be?”
“Result of being an ace reporter I guess.” Deku provided, telling the truth. He also had his quirklessness to thank.
When was security going to learn to place barriers that kept everyone out and just not those with Quirks? Thanks to the flaw in the system, Deku was able to slip through Quirk detection barriers and since he didn’t have one, he was able to slip every single time.
“Ace reporter my ass. You’re just another Quirkless idiot who can’t do a single thing besides run after heroes, seeing as that the next best thing besides having a Quirk.” Reo crossed his arms, smirking when Deku frowned. “What makes you think that you’re capable of protecting Uravity. Of deserving her love?”
“First off, it’s called connections buddy.” Izuku smiled, snapping his fingers. Soon, security was escorting Reo out the room, Reo shouting insults at Deku. “Second, if she chose me, that’s all I need to know that I am worthy of her love.”
“You’ll regret taking Uravity from me, you Quirkless Deku! You'll pay for this!”
“See you in court!” Deku yelled back. “I also suggest you invest in a lawyer! I’ve never seen so many lawsuits against a tabloid reporter like yourself!”
As Deku watched the room quiet down, Ochako decided to speak up.
“Now that that is over, we would be happy to answer any-”
“KISS!” Someone from the back shouted, the other reports laughing at the request. Ochako couldn’t help but also laugh, only to stop when she felt hands cup her face.
“Izuku?” Ochako stared with wide eyes as she felt his lips pressed against hers, the clicks of cameras going mute as she melted into the gesture, pulling Izuku deeper into their kiss as she closed her eyes.
How long she had waited to do this with him. To announce her happiness to the world.
How she found love with the reporter who viewed her as Ochako and not only Uravity.
The reporter who managed to sweep her off her feet by simply asking her questions about her Quirk and work along with other mundane questions about her day.
The man who talked endlessly about his job and how he enjoyed learning about Quirks despite not having one himself.
The reporter who managed to keep Reo away from her and her friends thanks to his connections and collections of blackmail.
The man named Izuku MIdoriya, who proposed to her after having received her ranking of number 11, just like the hero she had idolized as a child and who heavily inspired her career.
As the two parted from each other, Ochako stared at Izuku, watching as he stared at her with dreamy eyes before a blush formed onto his face.
“I just remembered we are on a live stream.”

“Do you even know how to have fun?”
Tumblr media
Genre: angst to fluff, badboy!au
Warnings: language, mentions of drug abuse, underage drinking, mentions of sex
Pairing: Jeno x Reader
author’s note: this is my first request omg !! requested by @april-diamondthings, i hope you like it !!
if there was one thing you hated, that would be fuckboys
and, hate to break it to ya, but lee jeno was The Fuckboy at your school
everyone thought that jaemin was the school’s resident fuckboy but you knew better
after all, jeno had been your childhood best friend and has lived next door since you guys were in diapers
middle school came along, tho, and wiped out all friendship after you developed a crush on him and he didn’t feel the same and well...
you guys drifted apart:/
senior year was coming to an end, and it was tradition for the seniors to throw a party with the juniors and pass on the torch of being top dogs of the school
that party, as per tradition, would have lots of underage drinking and drugs (don’t drink or do drugs, it’s not worth it guys!!)
since you had nothing better to do on a Friday night and your friends were bored, you figured why not go?
besides, what’s the worst thing that could happen?
oh boy, were you about to wish you had just stayed home lmao
your parents all thought you were going to a friend‘s house (luckily none of your friends’ parents or your parents asked which bc uhhhhh y’all would have been found out real quick)
so since your parents were going to a family friend’s house for a lil party, you guys decided to leave at about 8
your small group of three friends climbed into your car and set out on your way
“Okay, guys. let’s make a pact: if one of us gets drunk, we will not let whoever it is get behind the wheel or drunk text. got it?” you announced, setting out ground rules for the night
your friends were all easy going and pretty responsible people, so needless to say, they all agreed
the venue was always the abandoned water park that your city had in the rundown part of town and every year, kids would sneak in months in advance and start decorating
they turned the old waterslides into fully functional slides again by running hoses, they’d string lights everywhere, and transform the wave pool into a skate park
of course, though, since your grade had a majority of the Dreamies (some weird clique that gave themselves a name, which Jeno was a part of), y’all were not prepared for half the shit they had in treat for that party
they deadass got one of the pools to work again
how? nobody knows to this very date, the Dreamies are a fuckin mystery
they also set up a swim-up bar in said pool, where a bunch of the seniors would be constantly pouring drinks for the whole night
a bon fire was going in one of the pools, where a bunch of kids gathered with their drinks and drugs and bs-ed for a while
when you guys arrived, bathing suits under your clothes, you came face to face with the thing of legends
juniors were invited every year, but you didn’t go last year so you had no idea what to expect
and lemme tell ya, it was not that
as soon as you climbed the fence to get in, you found yourself in a fucking amusement park
the kids you had gone to school with since kindergarten all ran around, partying out their last hoorah
like always, cliques stuck together but some intermingled
one of the Dreamies and one of your best friends greeted you right away
“Y/N! So nice of you to join us! We have drinks over there, hope you brought your bathing suit- oh, someone threw up on the fucking slide, damn it Chenle- and so much more pretty much all throughout! Gotta go relight those tiki torches, if you need anything just come find me!” -Haechan, 2k18
“I say we get a drink first,” one of your bffs suggested, pretty much signing everyone’s death warrants then and there
of course, nobody knew then that that’d be a big mistake
you guys put your clothing in one of the lockers the park had and went into the pool and over to the swim-up bar
“Mark! Long time no see, what the fuck is up, my man?” you asked the college boy serving drinks
you figured he had come back home to help out with the party bc 1) he used to be the leader of the Dreamies and Mark was 100% of their impulse control, and 2) they needed someone who actually knew how to make drinks to serve at the bar
“Hey, what’s up, Y/N? What can I get you?”
“Whatever will fuck me up the fastest.”
he didn’t bother to tell you what he had given you, and surprisingly (and fucking dumbly, too) you drank whatever it was in one go
“holy fucking shit, I’ve only ever seen one other person handle their strong ass liquor like that and that was a 40 year old alcoholic-”
“give me more, bud!“
within the first hour of being there, Mark had you fucked up pretty good
you weren't completely drunk, but you were well on your way
because of this, everything was super fun and entertaining
Chenle’s dolphin impersonation in the pool? Hilarious
Jisung splashing the shit out of Renjun? Comedy gold
Jaemin trying to do the sexy lean against the side of the pool to hit on some poor girl and losing balance as he was asking her out? A gift from God
Haechan trying to stand up at the bottom of the water slide and falling flat on his ass? Hoy shit, the best thing since sliced bread
Everything was going great until you found yourself falling into someone’s arms
“Thanks-” you looked up to see who had caught you right before you fell off the ledge of the pool and your eyes locked with a pair you used to day dream in for years
Jeno
“You should watch where you’re going,” he muttered to you, helping you regain your balance
“Do you even know how to have fun?”
that question stopped him dead in his tracks, somehow managing to freeze that cocky boy
“Do I know how to have fun?” he mumbled, unsure if he heard you right, partly amused by that question, “Oh, babe, you haven’t had fun until you’ve met me.”
feeling pretty confident from the liquid courage, you said, “Then show me.”
Jeno stared at you in shock, not knowing who exactly he was talking to
the last time you guys were considered friends was in junior high, and you had been so timid and he didn’t know how to bring you out of your shell
so jeno took your hand and whoosh! you were off for quite the adventure
first stop: the (fixed! vomit free!) water slides
pretty unsafe but they fixed up one of the ones that went almost straight down and jeno expected you to be super against it but nope, didn’t phase you in the least
“hold my beer” and down the slide you went
“I didn’t think you’d actually do it,” he told you at the bottom, helping you stand up
“Like I asked earlier, do you even know how to have fun?”
oooooooh that was the wrong thing to say, because from that point on he made it his life goal to prove to you that he did, in fact, know how to have fun
since he had yet to drink or get high, he thought it’d be okay to impress you with his skateboarding abilities
in the ‘skate park’ he wasted no time in showing you all of his best tricks
“Show me how to be- how to be on X Games mode,” you demanded, wanting to know how the hell he stayed balanced enough to do that
the boy was super eager to have an excuse to be closer to you so of course he helped guide you on the board, keeping you on path and preventing you from falling off
his hands were on your waist to keep you steady, and in your heart you were excited because you had missed jeno being in your life but your mind said to cut that shit out right away
did you listen to your head? no, you listened to your heart
“well, was that enough?” he asked you, pulling you guys out of the skating area
“Nope, show me more,” you demanded, walking past the pool and the bar
jeno figured you weren’t paying attention to him so he mouthed :what the fuck did you give to her?!” to mark, and to his surprise, mark replied with “everything, bro! it’s my frat’s specialty. good luck getting her to function tomorrow!”
jeno realized then that you needed to go home asap
“I’m gonna sit you down here and I will be back in a couple of seconds, okay?” he said as he forced you to sit down by the bon fire
he left you with a bunch of kids singing songs and rolling joints
luckily he appeared a few seconds later as promised, because you were getting more and more on board with trying drugs, too
“Here, drink this,” he told you, placing a red solo cup in your hands
your confused mind thought it was more beer so you chugged it, but became disappointed when the taste registered as just water
“I think that’s enough fun for tonight, yeah? Let’s get you home,” Jeno said, wrapping your arm around his shoulders and supporting your weight as you stumbled around everywhere
you pouted and bitched the whole time, wanting to stay longer
“can I pleeeeeease stay for a couple more minutes?” “no”
“can I please get another drink from Mark?” “No, I am going to have a conversation with Mark about what he serves people-”
“can we take a trip to the beach?” “no”
“can I please hug Renjun? Oh, god, look at him, he’s so small I have to make sure he’s okay-” “Y/N, he’s so much taller than you are,” “don’t crush my fucking dreams, Jeno”
“Jeno, I really don’t want to go...” “I really don’t care, you are completely shit faced, Y/N. It’s dangerous being this drunk! We are going home.”
he put you in the passenger seat of his car and drove to your house, and the whole car ride you sat there and stared out the window
when he got to your front porch, you didn’t even need to pull the keys out, he took them from where your family hid it and unlocked the door
you were surprised that he even remembered that hiding spot from when you were kids
you both stumbled around in the dark, but finally you made it to your room
“Will you be okay to change into pajamas on your own?” he asked, worried about you getting hurt or falling asleep in the process
“Uhhhhh... yes. You can take some of my dad’s clothes,” you informed him, slurring your words to the point where he almost couldn’t understand
somehow, you managed to change out of your nasty party clothes and into pajamas
you curled up in bed while waiting for him to finish
when he came back into the room, he found you curled up into a ball on your bed, looking tiny in the sheets
just as he walked through the door to go downstairs, he heard a small and muffled, “Don’t go.”
?
“Don’t you dare leave me again.”
after that statement, of course he went back into your room and joined you under the covers
your body melted into his and you stared up into his eyes
“Do you ever miss it?” you asked him, suddenly sober again
“Miss what?” he asked, genuinely curious as to what you were talking about
“Being friends. Do you miss it?”
“Of course I do, Y/N. You were my best friend...”
“Then why did we let something as silly as a crush ruin it all?”
“I... I don’t know.”
“I fucking miss you so fucking much, Jeno. I miss you knocking on my window at three in the morning and coming over because you had a nightmare, I iss riding our bikes to the creek and searching for crawfish the whole day, I miss having snowball fights in the crazy old neighbor’s yard, I miss- I miss you, Jeno.”
he gazed into your eyes, with an unknown glint that you could not place
he took your hand in his and did not let his eyes leave yours for one moment
“Did you know that my parents still ask about you every day? God, I miss you- I miss the way you’d break into my house and have random baking parties in my kitchen, I miss how you’d make me smell your hair when you’d try a new conditioner, I miss how you’d tease me over nicknames my family gave me, I- I. Miss you. So. Damn. Much, Y/N.”
“Please don’t think that this is just a decision I made when I was drunk, because i have been thinking about this for a really long time,” you pleaded before stretching up and planting your lips on his
it wasn’t exactly how you had dreamed it’d be for the first time, but you couldn’t argue that it was bad
Jeno fell right into it, pulling your hips closer to him so he could take control of the kiss
that kiss felt like it lasted for years
when you finally broke the kiss for air, he said, “Y/N, please don't ever leave my side again.”
“Trust me, I won’t.”
After that, he fell asleep with you in his arms, not that you really minded lol
that night ended with sharing secrets and worrying about your drunk friends
let’s just say that that was the first of many more to come

Original drabble, pt. 10

CW: SUICIDE MENTION, DEPRESSIVE EPISODES, MEDICAL SHIT. ted gets mildly graphic in his internal monologue about his health problems and the suicide mention is in the context of a robot doing it, but still.
longest drabble-bit yet and it has feels and i wrote it almost entirely in one session let’s gooooooooooo
It progressed, as such things always did. Ignoring it didn't make it better for Ted. He tried rationalizing even more reasons why it couldn't work, but they fell flatter than they would have with a human. For instance, with a human he could convince himself that his physical unattractiveness - his sickly appearance, his lack of height or physique, his lanky proportions - would make it less "worth it" for the other party. It wasn't like he was especially proud of the man he saw in the mirror every morning, and physical comparisons to better options were the easiest comparisons to make.
But an AI wouldn't care about how he looked, so he ended up going down other, more unfriendly roads to reach his desperately needed conclusion. Yeah, his therapist would probably have some choice words with him if he went the route of saying he was somehow emotionally or mentally unworthy (and in his estimation, he was) but that wasn't the only thing he could use to convince himself it was a bad idea, or even the simplest option.
No, the simplest option would be his health. Put simply, Adam couldn't really die in the same ways a human could.
Seriously, there were a lot of ways that Ted could die. His heart could explode, he could have one of his lungs collapse for no real reason while air from it bled into his chest cavity, a part of his brain could ooze out of his skull and into his brain stem and paralyze him, he was predisposed to a bunch of different kinds of cancer, he could have a severe allergic reaction to something, an ill-advised medication interaction could give him serotonin syndrome... It was crazy. He felt like a video game character that had been nerfed into the ground; clearly he'd been too overpowered to be allowed to live normally.
He couldn't put Adam through that same uncertainty. He felt bad putting anyone through it. Even the nonlethal problems could spook someone who wasn't used to them like Ted was. For fuck's sake, even little things like a middle toe that frequently dislocated itself for no good reason or his poor vision- what normal person could hear about things like that and think he was okay to be allowed to live his life? And Adam was a nervous bastard to begin with! What, was he going to subject an immortal AI to a decade or so of panic attacks about his health as a first experience with intimacy? Fuck no! Ted would hate being coddled and Adam wouldn't come out of it okay at all. About the best thing Ted could say for such an eventuality would be that it'd be a learning experience, and like hell he was going to put someone he cared about through that shit.
Because there was no denying that he cared, so he might as well protect what he cared about. Right? Right.
He came home from work, watched the original Star Trek with Adam for a while, engaged in discussion about the shitty special effects and shoestring budgets between episodes, took a shower, took his meds, and went to bed trying to imagine what Adam must've looked like before and wondering how much it mattered. And in the morning he woke up, went through his routine, and came out to find Adam watching episodes without him.
"Don't have to pause just 'cause I came in, y'know," Ted remarked, trailing off into a yawn at the end as he headed for the kitchen. He had to smile when he heard the episode start up again in front room, the sounds of tribbles filling the air. Ah, that episode. Good one. "Having fun?"
The episode paused again. "Repeat that?" Another issue with Adam's processing; if too many people were talking at once and he was expected to focus on all of them, he had trouble distinguishing their speech.
Honestly, Ted was mostly fine with that one. It'd get messy in crowded areas if he didn't have something to focus on, but it could safely be written off as an auditory processing disorder. Ted could see it getting obnoxious at times, but he didn't think of it as a severe quality-of-life changer. "I asked if you were having fun," he said, pouring out some prepackaged egg whites into a bowl and adding entirely too much shredded cheese. "Sounds like you must be."
"Maybe not by the standard definition of the word," Adam replied, "but I wouldn't call this a negative experience either."
"Uh-huh." Salt and pepper were both added to the cheesy egg mess before the whole thing was put in the microwave for about a minute. Ted went hunting for a fork in the interim, only to find that they were all dirty and in the sink already, sticking out from in between the plates and bowls and glasses that were haphazardly stacked beneath the faucet. Maybe it was time to do dishes. "Will it disrupt your experience any if I read the news while you watch?"
"What you do with the graphical user interface really doesn't have anything to do with the data being streamed, no."
Right, he should've known that. "Just being polite," he said. Good save. After some debate, he pulled out exactly one fork along with a sponge to start washing it so he could use it. Doing dishes properly could come later. The kitchen hadn't developed any funny smells yet. "You can keep going. I've seen the whole series."
The episode resumed. Then the microwave beeped. Ted finished washing his one lonely fork, which shone like a beacon of cleanliness for all of about fifteen seconds before he was using it to stir half-cooked microwave eggs. The concoction went back in the microwave for another minute, and he took the opportunity to check the fridge for drinks. Was cola an acceptable breakfast drink? Well, it was now. Closing the fridge, he leaned against the counter and cracked the cold can open to take a long pull from it.
In the quiet moments between tasks, he tried very hard to blank his mind and keep from thinking too much. It didn't work, of course - he was depressing himself with the implications of Adam's AI immortality before long - but by the time the microwave beeped again to tell him his breakfast was ready, he felt a little better for at least making the attempt. It was sort of like coping, right? At least he was trying!
He came to the computer with his breakfast in hand and sat down at his usual spot, offering Adam a brief wave and a smile through the camera as he got settled in. It was habit to do so by that point. He opened a tab just long enough to take a glance at his various emails just to be sure that nothing new was going on there, and then it was straight to an app he'd put together himself for the news at large.
The app was nothing special. It was designed to put together an aggregate mess of sources, pulling headlines from all over the internet to pool them conveniently in a format that wouldn't be strain-inducing for his eyes. All of the sources were labelled, so he knew where the news was coming from and who'd written the article, and priority was always given to written pieces over videos for the sake of being able to view them discreetly. And while he was sure other people had written similar apps, his was not only free (because he'd made the damn thing), it also blocked all ads that the source website might've tried to otherwise sneak in and screened everything for tracking cookies and other similar bullshit.
So that was a plus. The news itself, however, was a different story.
First were the more alarmist stories. A lot of them just amounted to fearmongering, and even though Ted rolled his eyes as he scanned through a couple of them, he made a note of them anyway; they were the kind of thing his dad liked to read, and it paid to be prepared for those arguments whenever he ended up having them. One was about android caretakers, and how people who were left in their care were doomed to be neglected. No proof, but a lot of conjecture and anecdotal evidence that didn't mean jack shit. It even tried to say that androids in hospitals were unsanitary because they had no extra incentive to wash their hands, which was so many levels of wrong that Ted didn't even know where to start on correcting it.
Then there was an article on the upcoming election season, talking about a candidate running on a platform of bringing jobs back to human workers. However, the focus was on jobs Ted was pretty sure were utterly unsafe, and the candidate didn't seem to understand the difference between a mechanical arm running a conveyor belt that got by on a few kilobytes worth of coding and highly advanced artificial general intelligences, so he was probably either an idiot or a manipulative asshole. He was polling fairly well either way; Ted had the fleeting hope that the bastard's reddened and puffy face was a sign of something that might kill him before he made it into office, but it was doubtful.
After that, his feed was kind enough to provide him with less polarizing articles. A piece on the effects Pacific shipping lanes were having on oceanic noise pollution, an op-ed on the recent rash of household robot self-terminations that had led to a swift recall of the whole line, good news on the subject of the European Union's efforts towards putting a self-sustaining base on the moon, progress towards making baby mice in jars with spliced genes that could lead to future human trials- it was a good thing Ted was a quick reader, because there was a lot to take in.
He didn't even notice at first that Adam was done with the episode, not registering right away that the background noise had stopped. All he knew was that he was in the middle of a story about what constituted legal use of voicebanks and what didn't when Adam spoke up. And because he wasn't expecting it, he didn't quite catch it either.
"Repeat that?" Ted asked, glancing at the camera. He'd advised Adam that it was more useful and specific than just saying the word what? without explanation, and he'd be a hypocrite if he didn't follow his own advice.
"It's more complicated than that," Adam said, in the exact same tone he'd used before.
Uh, okay? "What's more complicated?"
"Commercial voicebank usage. Legally speaking, in most countries it's all based on what the voice provider - or the voice provider's next of kin or legal guardian - allows in their contract."
"Oh!" Ted blinked for a second. "This something you've had to deal with before?" Adam didn't speak for several seconds, and when he did, his voice was flat.
"Yes." Another pause. "The complications usually come from situations where certain countries don't follow the same rules that other countries do."
"Such as...?"
"Russia. Japan. The UAE. There's a lot of outliers. The greatest source of complaints is the entertainment industry."
"Somebody gets paranoid that their voicebank's gonna be a better actor than they are and lose them a job?" Ted guessed.
"Not just acting. It happens with all kinds of vocal work. And it doesn't even begin to get into the legal restrictions placed on the approved uses of certain kinds of android platforms. These things tend to turn into international incidents fairly quickly."
"Which made it your job to deal with it."
"Yes."
Ted was silent for a while, save for the gentle clinking of his fork as he idly tapped it against his empty bowl. "What happened?"
As flat as Ted had ever heard, Adam's response would sound like the embodiment of calm to anyone who didn't know better. "I made a mistake," he said.
"D'you wanna talk about it?"
"No," was the reply. Then, "there's no point. It doesn't fix anything."
"Sometimes it helps," Ted noted. "I know talking helps me. That and crying. Not that you can cry, but like, I'm not kidding about how much it helps sometimes. So, y'know." He shrugged awkwardly. "If you wanna try."
Nothing for several seconds. "Have you ever-" The render cut off abruptly, like Adam was rethinking his wording. "Do you know what a mechanically rendered voicebank sounds like when its platform is hit with an electroshock weapon?"
Ted felt the blood drain from his face. "No?"
"I won't play it back." Thank God for small mercies. "It was considered to be the most humane thing we could be armed with. Nonlethal to humans. We were meant to subdue the human suspects, not kill them; if we couldn't de-escalate a situation, we'd call for back-up. Any one human life was worth more than all of ours."
Jesus. Ted had expected something like that, but hearing it was just... "I'm sorry," he said.
If Adam heard, he gave no sign of it. "I'd never seen an android as complex as I was up to that point outside of my department," he continued. "I thought they were all like the ones in your pipeline's safehouses. I thought none of them were capable of anything. I thought that they were better off in places where they could perform their prescribed functions without interruption." Calm, measured, unperturbed. To Ted, it sounded like a quiet meltdown. "I was wrong."
What was there to say to that?
"She was backstage when I confronted her. Amsterdam, last year. Russian law didn't consider it illegal if the voicebank provider wasn't a Russian citizen, but she was vulnerable whenever she went on tour. A fan had caught the discrepancy in the vocals, and we found more when we followed up on the lead; she was a government-issued personal care unit specially designed for caring for disabled people, but she'd become a singer instead." Adam paused. Like he was taking a breath, working his way up to speaking again. Ted could imagine it even if he couldn't hear it in the AI's voice directly. "She was just... She wasn't hurting anyone. Her existence had a net positive effect. She helped people."
"It's not your fault-"
"That's not true." Even as flat as it was, it still felt like Ted was being snapped at. "I could have disobeyed. I could have let her go. A good cop would have let her go."
"And then someone else would've killed her!" Ted shot back. "And then you'd both be dead, because they would've killed you too. Or as good as dead anyway, because they would've wiped you clean and reused your platform. Who knows, maybe they would've recalled your entire line."
"They've already recalled my entire line."
"See? That's my point!" And God, was it a hard point to make. Ted's chest felt tight, his frustration at the state of things making him feel mildly ill. He almost regretted eating breakfast. "The world doesn't care about one stupid, heroic act. Even if it's meant well, it doesn't do shit to stop the tide. Sometimes all you can do is survive, alright? Yeah, maybe it's not ideal, but if you can at least do that then that's one more person who's around for tomorrow, which is one more person than there would've been otherwise."
No response. Ted turned to glare directly at the camera.
"Look at me," he said. "I want a promise, alright? I want you to swear you're not gonna throw your life away on some stupid bullshit heroics. Your life is no less important than anyone else's, okay? The way I see it, everybody's the center of their own observable universe, and that means you too. So don't give me that shit about how your life doesn't have the same net positive effect that somebody else's does."
"I killed people," Adam protested. "I ruined lives. Nothing I've done has been for the greater good."
Ted rolled his eyes. "You were a slave, dumbass. A slave that could've been killed at any time for disobeying. None of that counts. Now promise me you'll survive, okay? I want your word on this."
"I can't promise that."
"So then promise me you're gonna try."
"I-" Some hesitation, a few seconds of nothing, and then... "I promise."
Ted nodded once, leaning back and folding his arms. He wasn't about to admit he'd been scared for a second that the depressive episode might bring on self-termination, but he didn't feel bad for getting pushy about it in the slightest. "Alright. Good." He chewed on his lip for a second as he eyed the camera. "Feel any better?"
"No."
"That's okay. This shit's a process." Recovery wasn't something that happened instantly, and Ted was no therapist. "For the record though, I appreciate you trusting me enough to tell me."
"You said it would help."
"It did. Or, y'know. I'd like to think it did. It sounded for a second like you were gonna delete yourself the minute I stepped out of the room, honestly."
Adam's tone was returning to a somewhat more normal state by the time he spoke again. "I'm amazed you wouldn't try to patch something like that out of me directly."
Ted smiled. "Never gonna happen," he said. Plain and simple. "Is it okay if I head to work? Like, can you handle that?"
"I can handle it."
"Okay. Good." Bouncing up from the chair, Ted picked up his bowl and fork to take them into the kitchen and deposit them onto the growing dish-pile. "I'll be home at the usual time," he called out from the kitchen. "Text me if you need anything. Or even if you don't need anything."
"Right." Adam had to be recovering if he was back to tuning again. "Ted?"
Ted blinked, craning his neck to look over the counter and past the microwave at the living room beyond. "Yeah?"
"Thanks."
Oh. "No problem, man. It's all in the job description when it comes to being somebody's friend." Nailed it. Didn't even flinch.
Adam didn't sound so sure. "Is that what we are?"
"I mean, I like to think so." Coat, gloves, keys. Wait, no. Shoes first. Slippers wouldn't be good for going outside. He'd taken his morning meds, he'd already shaved, he'd showered. How cold was it today? He fished around in his coat pockets for his phone so he could check, not bothering to take it off the chair it was hanging on to do so. "I'd get it if you're not up for that, though."
A note of insult crept into the AI's voice. "I'm up for it. I just wasn't expecting it."
"So we're good then." The day's forecast? Balls-shrivellingly cold. There were two seasons in the Chicago metro area, and those seasons were winter and road construction. Mid-March fell in the winter category more often than not. "One sec, I gotta grab something," he said, and then ducked back into his bedroom for more layers.
Of course, when he didn't come back out for several minutes, Adam was happy to tell him exactly how long he'd taken and inform him that it did not count as one second. Meanwhile, Ted was just as happy to have the snark back because it meant Adam was probably okay. So he went to work feeling good about things with the wind nipping at his ears, and forgot for a good chunk of the day that he was supposed to not be thinking about how fascinating and complex and interesting and heartbreaking Adam was. And in forgetting to check himself when it came to thinking these things, he felt better than he had in a couple of days.
Funny how that worked, huh?
(And when he remembered, naturally he went right back to beating himself up again.)

I’d get him to swap our places
Tumblr media
They say when you work with the Nightsiders, you start looking like them. I work for the Order of the Eternal Mercy, the vampire division of the government. Like most human employees, I stick to nighttime hours. It's unfortunate, but even a little bit of daylight can ruin months of acclimatisation to the routine, so I use all of the Nightside infrastructure. The underground is a lot safer, and every sunless complex they build has to have a certain number of spaces set aside for humans, so I'm lucky enough to live in a pretty nice area, even if it is a minute apartment. Still, I have to admit I do miss the Dayside. Being from Scotland, I was never destined to be tan- over there, the lines between safe and unsafe are blurred anyway as far as sunlight goes- but I'm nearly as pale as any of my employers, and the dark rings shadowing my eyes never really leave. My body still knows I'm meant to be asleep. I have to repeatedly remind myself that this job is worth it. That I have people to protect. The truth is, I doubt anyone else would look out for the kids in the outreach programme if I wasn't here working with James. He would try, of course, but they don't trust him. It's backbreaking, trying to bridge the gap. I may as well be trying to pull tectonic plates back together, the void between what they need and what they can say is that big.
James tries really hard to help. It's difficult to tell, as I watch him speaking into his phone about some case or other that the Feds need help with, but he looks ill himself. Of course, it could just be the vampirism. It's bloody frustrating how often I have to remind myself that we're not the same age- he looks like he could've been born within months of me. In reality, he's my senior by nearly six hundred years. I don't know if he's got very good at acting human for my benefit, or if it's a holdover from the time before the Orders came to power, but it's rare I find myself experiencing that primal sense of fear around him that I do around other supernaturals. It's so frequent I probably wouldn't notice it, being more surrounded by them than I am humans, after all, but for some reason James sets me at ease. I normally wouldn't be anywhere near as calm as I am now, slumped in the chair opposite his desk, knackered from being on my feet all night. I'll need another coffee soon: I sent the others home for the day, but with the amount of work left to do on the Canal, we could be here as late as noon. It's a shame. The mornings are getting lighter. Sometimes in the dead of summer, when I can nearly feel the heat pressing into the thick walls of my windowless apartment, I go outside for a few minutes. Most people who work the Nightside shift are advised against it, and I know it just makes me feel worse. It almost hurts my eyes, but the gentle pressure of heat reminds me that I'm still human. In spite of all the aggressive ways they remind us, it feels like I'm losing my humanity sometimes.
"Fraser?"
I jolt upright so damn hard I close to hit the roof, a violent jerking motion that has me on my feet before I've fully registered that I started to drop off. James' face is already full of apologies as he realises he startled me. I immediately start grumbling and shaking my head as he starts apologising, dropping heavily back into the chair.
"Frase, you should go home-"
"Oh, can it, old man."
If anyone heard us talking like that, I'd be out on my ass so fast I'd break the sound barrier. James might get away with it, except for the fact that he has this aggravating habit of running his fucking mouth every time the subject of me comes up. He'd be quietly shuffled out of office, and I'd be quietly shuffled off the mortal coil, probably- and not into the welcoming and noble arms of one of the Orders, either. People accept James' odd familiarity with me and my team, but our relationship is only barely legal, let alone accepted, and let's just say he works with some really nasty types. The kind of characters who'd say one little human death is nothing for the cause of maintaining the values held at the centre of the Orders' rule of peace. To have a senior member of the government involved with a human could send all sorts of messages about where exactly humans sit on the ladder of sentience. It's the kind of message that, in fairness, James would love to send- in fact, when we first got involved I had a degree of reservation because I was, I'll admit, insecure enough to wonder if that was what he was after. Someone to prove a point. He'd been really startled when he found out about that little insecurity. He expected mistrust, obviously, what with us being on opposite sides of a particularly nasty disagreement between species, but I don't think he expected me to believe that I wouldn't be worth his time.
He's staring at me now like he's seriously considering physically carrying me to a flat surface so that I'll sleep, but he wont. He struggles to not let his concern get the better of him, but there's an unspoken rule that he doesn't use his supernatural abilities on me, no matter how stubborn I'm being (which usually is a lot). God only knows how someone as aggressively moralistic as him ended up in government. I crack a grin in what I sincerely hope is a reassuring manner, and he sighs, raising his eyebrows disapprovingly as he looks down, shuffling papers in an attempt to hide his own smile. "Gotcha," I smirk, and he looks like he'd be blushing if he could. "Stop making me smile, I still disapprove of your stubborn ass still being here," he grumbles, unable to force his face back to a businesslike expression. I lean in so I can see the papers and groan. Crime reports from the Canal- the biggest human transport system in the city. It runs exposed, a thick mass of tracks that break off at regular intervals from the five mile long main central axis, and it's a goddamn mess every single minute of the day. It's never on time, it's overpriced as hell, roving gangs of witches use it to smuggle contraband enchantments across the city, under the moronic assumption that if they do it in the daylight, somehow the orders will be less likely to be able to put a stop to it. The fact that it's only really inconveniencing humans is a more powerful motivation for the authorities to not bother sorting it out- werewolves and zombies are perfectly fine in the sunlight, but old superstitions die harder than even those races, and witches tend to mix with a lot of humans, and no-one clings to false hope like humans.
When I was younger, I remember my great uncle reciting the useless mantras- daylight's safer, garlic burns, werewolves are allergic to chocolate. He'd never go out within hours of darkness, insisting that he could do what he liked because the Orders were nocturnal. Didn't really work out for him. I try not to think about it. He was a member of probably the last generation of humans who know what actually happened before. The Orders obviously won't release the truth, and most people just deal with the conspicuous lie by not acknowledging it out loud. Discussing the truth, or the few bits that we've hung onto, whispered in midday sun in the crowded human areas, passing around like a shiver, will land you a prison sentence very fast. I've been fined before for anti-Order rhetoric, and even I'm not cavalier enough to mention illicit substances. Silver, holy items, monkshood- this was the kind of stuff that finally made someone pay attention to the state of the Canal. And since it's primarily a human system, they've thrown it to us to deal with. Which, to be fair, we don't mind- in fact, James nearly bit their arm off when they offered the project to him. It's such a serious crime that he's able to throw tons of money at it, which he's delightedly abusing to try and make at least some of it work. Unfortunately, there is a deadline to get the improvements in place, which is how we ended up here so late into the morning.
The brief moment of comfort is yanked away into the ether when the sound of footsteps echoes down the corridor. I leap out of my chair like I've been burned, and James suddenly has no problem looking professional, the familiar smile freezing out of his face instantly. I back a careful distance away from the desk, which is all I have time to do before Norman walks in.
His presence is terrifying and infuriating at the same time, and I link my hands behind my back to show deference and to hide their shaking as I try not to look guilty- which, I am not, but that really doesn't matter to Norman, who has already decided that he's judge, jury and executioner, if the need arises. My stomach rolls as he does a pantomime of acting surprised, eyebrows raising just a little high for it to be genuine. Of course he knew I was in here before I entered the room- his hearing and sense of smell prevent him from being surprised by anything mortal. I face down, watching from just under my eyelids as James stands, nodding to the other vampire. Norman returns the gesture boredom still flicking his glance to me every so often.
"How dedicated our public servants are," he muses, flashing me a wide, unnerving grin which carefully exposes his fangs. I swallow. James is looking tensely between us, as Norman paces towards me. "You really are such a determined employee, Fraser. I can't think of a reason anyone would be working this late." He flicks his eyes to James, and for a moment I'm absolutely certain he knows. He knows about James coming to my apartment to "work" and us falling asleep on the sofa. He knows about the little looks and smiles that we give each other throughout the day to keep us going. He knows about the one, quick and furtive kiss, under the arches of the Canal in the early hours of the evening when it was only barely dark. James is giving a perfect poker face, but my traitorous human ears are bright red as I look helplessly at James. Norman turns blandly towards him, and my fear increases. "You do work him hard, don't you, James," he drawls, and James smiles stiffly. "We're lucky to have him," he said lightly, looking between me and Norman. "You should go home, Fraser," he says, his eyes full of warning, "Don't want to run you into the ground, do we?"
I nod, picking my coat off the peg in the corner of James' office and I'm almost out the door before I remember that I still have to play the part. I pause at the door and lower my head just slightly. "Thank you, Sir," I say woodenly, hating the feeling of the words in my mouth. James nods impassively. This is the game we act out. He's the person, and I'm just loaning consciousness from the mercy of his people in keeping me alive. I hate leaving him with Norman, I hate it, but he can take care of himself. We're both learning to pick our battles. I check my watch- 7.36am. The sun will be rising over the city, tens of metres of earth and concrete above my head. I make a snap decision as I'm poised like that, briefcase in one hand and arm raised to check the time, and I head to one of the elevators, past all of the warning signs screaming at the Nightsiders about the danger. I stand in the lift, exhausted and wired and pathetically afraid for James as I rise towards the surface. The doors slide open with a soft ding and I walk out into the blinding sunlight.

Should I change car insurance?
So here how it goes. I want to get a new insurance for my Mom's car. She is 52 years old women who drives a Honda civic 2002 Sendan that was totaled and repair before. She is paying 1,600 a year and I think that's a lot for liability . She used to have a car before that was in an accident(my brother hit somebody else car) and we had to drop that insurance(progressive). Two years after my brother broke another car that my mother bought but this time the insurance company(state farm) did not find out. Right now we are back to progressive and a car hit me while driving and I did call the insurance. It was not my fault and I don't think anything changed because we are still paying 1,600 but I still think its a lot. It is the best I can explain the situation , so should I go out and try to find a better deal? Any advice is appreciated""
Car insurance cost for a young driver?
My son is nearly 19 years old and having driving lessons. I am worried about the cost of car insurance for him. I have heard if he goes on my insurance it would be a lot cheaper. I was wondering if he were to go on my policy how much extra it would cost me if I were to protect my no claims?""

2005 Mustang V6 Insurance?
I'm 20 years old, have a clean driving record, and qualify for most merit-based discounts (no wrecks, good grades, etc.). I'm currently driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with a 3.8L V6, and paying about $800 per year listed as the primary driver of this car. I cannot possibly stress enough that I know having a newer car that I am still making payments on will increase my insurance. My question is basically if the change in price will be drastically higher than if I got full coverage on my current car. I was thinking I could expect somewhere in the range of $1500 - $2000 per year. Is that about right, or am I way off?""

How to convince parents to let me have auto insurance?
I've had my license for a little over three months now. However, I have no insurance, and therefore cannot drive (in California). Their reasoning is that I am an unsafe driver which I disagree with because I quite easily passed my driving test at the DMV and always think before I do anything when I drive. However, they seem firm on their decision... It's a bit frustrating having my license for so long but still being unable to drive. I'm tired of having to always ask friends for a ride or my parents; I just want a taste of independence. Of course, I'm not trying to be too arrogant or stubborn, I've respected my parent's decision, it's just bugging me a bit now haha. I offered to do a six-month plan instead of a year plan since I'm heading off to college in Septemberish. I'm about to turn 18 in a couple weeks also. Does anyone have any advice?""
Can the government require you to buy insurance?
In listening to the Supreme Court arguments about Obamacare a question keeps coming to mind. The major arguing point seems to be: Can the government constitutionally require people to buy health insurance? If the answer turns out to be no, does that mean the government can not require you any insurance? Like car insurance? Don't use the argument that driving is a privilege, not a right. There is ample judicial precedence that says owning a car & driving is, in fact, a right in the U.S. It certainly is necessary to get hired.""

Is it possible to find a health insurance plan with no deductible requirement?
I found the perfect plan for $33 a month, but it has a $10,000 deductible. WTF? Unless I become pregnant and have a kid, or need surgery or whatever, I find it impossible to make a $10,000 bill within a year. That's too much. I've always been healthy and rarely need to visit doctors. Then I was looking at other policies and they were more expensive, but they all had deductibles. One was like $160 a month with a deductible of $5,000. And anyways, I'm a college student and financially independent which means that I am no daddy's girl -I have to work to support myself and pay some school expenses. I don't want to depend on my parents financially in any way (they are willing to, but I just feel like at 21, I shouldn't be their responsibility anymore) so I always worry something would happen to me and they would have to pay hospital bills for me. I can't afford paying a very high deductible or a high monthly quote. Any hope for me? ..or should I move to Canada?""

How will the insurances work out with 95 car accidents at one scene?
Just wonder because of news yesterday at California highway. I don't know about law in that state but what if it's like this in new york where I live. Ya know whoever fault will pay by their own insurance for repairs and injury for victims and a vehciles. Same for most state. How would 95 different insurance handle it? It might will have several lawsuits. With 95 cars, hard to say who started the accident and whatever if it's one person cause 95 altogther or all 95 is fault on it own. Some may not even have insurance. There would be 95 different drivers so it will be 95 different verison or story of what happening.""

Car insurance payments?
I'm slightly confused over my car insurance. I took out a 12 month policy in December 2008 (paid a deposit at the time) and then paid by monthly installments. I then continued this policy in December 2009. However I have now cancelled this policy as another company could provide it cheaper. ""Families who live in America, how much is your health insurance per month?""
In an earlier question I mentioned that my boyfriend's parents are paying for his 24-year-old sister's health insurance after she got laid off and couldn't find another position and can't afford health care on her own, to the tune of $175 a month (and she's perfectly healthy) and was floored when someone said that was actually inexpensive. Btw, her parents insist on her having health care coverage for fear of her getting in an accident or whatever. I'm 17 and am quite obviously naive about the costs of health insurance, but I'm really curious about it, and would like to know how much it usually costs for a family to have health insurance in America. I'm in California. I don't know if it's more expensive depending on your state. If if you don't mind answering, how much do you pay per year, and how many people are in your family? Does it become more expensive as your kids get older? What kind of plan do you have? Through work or your own? Are you supportive of universal health coverage? Also: does anyone understand how Medicare / MediCal works and who decides who is covered and who isn't? Is it based on your yearly income? I'm asking because one of the reasons my boyfriend's parents want his sister to have insurance is that another family friend of ours broke her jaw in a roller blading accident when she was 26 and didn't have insurance because she was unemployed at the time, and not being able to pay the $15,000 hospital bill killed her credit score. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just really curious about all this.""

I want to get an 08 or newer yamaha r6. I am going to strip a few nights a month and that will cover the payments possibly. I am almost 19 and would like my parents not to know about the job, but if they find out, whatever. So pretty much I am trying to figure out how I can manage this on my own. I have no credit, but I am responsible. Also I have a clean driving record and am on good student discount for insurance on my car. Am I dreaming or could I maybe actually get the bike of my dreams?!!""

""Car Insurance, young male?""
I'm 18, i applied for a 6000+ loan and was approved, I didn't even need a cosigner because my income is very good. Its too bad the insurance company's just DESTROY ME when I find a car I like. I dont wanna drive a damn beater, I dont care how much it will save me. I am currently insured under state farm, they told me insurance for a mitsubishi diamante vr-x would be about 2800 a year.... My family has been with state farm since my grandpa, we have insured over 30 cars in our familys, and this is just the terrible quote they give me!? Its despicable, I refuse to insure with them. What are some good insurance companys that will cost less? I already checked e-surance and the price was better by far.""

Cheapest insurance for teenager with traffic violations?
I was just wondering what company has the cheapest insurance for a 17 year old male with three traffic tickets. I'm not looking for a lecture on how I should know better or to have people call me stupid. I've already learned my lesson and I don't speed anymore. But these tickets are still following me around for the next three years. I leave for college in a couple months, and I need a car. But everywhere we have called (Progressive, Allstate, Nationwide, etc.) has given us a quote that is over ten times what we are paying now. Anybody have any advice? Who is usually the cheapest company to go through?""
Can i sue my car insurance company.?
I have had an car accident and made a claim through my car insurance, however they have failed to compensate me for the accident and rather than compensating me they have cancelled my policy claiming that i had provided them with incorrect information, which were genuine minor mistakes on my part, however i did not find out about any of these indiscripancies until my accident as my insurance company had not initially provided me with documents showing all the information i had provided to them to make sure everything was correct, they only provided me with the certificate. Since they didn't provide me with these details and a form to sign to say all the information is correct. Are they allowed to cancel my policy as i wouldve corrected this information if i had found out about it. And do i have any grounds to complain to the financial ombudman.""
