On This Day In History . 3 January 1437 . Catherine of Valois died aged 35 shortly after childbirth, in London, & was buried in Westminster Abbey . About Catherine; . ◼ Catherine of Valois (born.27 October 1401) was the Queen consort of England from 1420 until 1422. . ◼ She was the descendant, consort, and ancestor of kings. A daughter of Charles VI of France, she married Henry V of England, and gave birth to his heir Henry VI of England. . ◼ Her liaison (and possible secret marriage) with Owen Tudor proved the springboard of that family’s fortunes, eventually leading to their grandson’s elevation as Henry VII of England. . ◼ Catherine’s older sister Isabella was queen of England from 1396 until 1399, as the child bride of Richard II. . On This Day In History . 10 June 1437 . Joan of Navarre, Queen consort of King Henry IV died aged 66-67 . . About Joan of Navarre; . ◼ Born, c. 1370 was a Duchess consort of Brittany & a Queen consort of England. . ◼ She was the regent of Brittany from 1399 until 1403 during the minority of her son. She was a daughter of King Charles II of Navarre & Joan of France. She was the Duchess consort of Brittany through marriage with John V of Brittany & later the Queen consort of England through marriage with King Henry IV of England. . ◼  In 1403, Joan became the second wife of Henry IV. They had no children, but she is recorded as having had a good relationship with Henry's children from his first marriage, often taking the side of the future Henry V, "Prince Hal," in his quarrels with his father. . ◼ Nevertheless, during the reign of Henry V, she was accused of using witchcraft to try to poison him. She was convicted in 1419 and imprisoned for about four years in Pevensey Castle in Sussex, England. After that she lived quietly at Nottingham Castle, through Henry V's reign & into that of his son, Henry VI. . ◼ She died at Havering-atte-Bower in Essex, & was buried in Canterbury Cathedral next to Henry IV. . .
