I devoured it. I'm thinking of rewatching it again soon. The writing was excellent -- at the end of every episode I had to reevaluate how I felt about every character because I'd been given a smidgen more backstory or a slightly different POV on something they'd done.

There is less of the batshit craziness that clawbehavior craves (don't we ALL) but it's there: especially in the scenes where (I don't think this is too spoilery because it's in the official show summary) when he's jonesing or going through withdrawal for the drugs that he's been addicted to against his will.

I know what we all really want and that's A) shirt off B) sexual tension with a twink. Sadly, we do not get A. The show takes place in the dead of winter and our man spends a disgusting amount of time in the ugliest puffer coats you've ever seen. B, however, is there if you want it to be. (Like, moreso than Adamas but significantly less than TDJ). Our man has a very devoted subordinate.

It's also hilarious now and then, especially the comedy trio of Ji Sung's character and his non-cop investigation squad of unassuming but very troublemaking busybodies.

Have you watched Jisung's Connection? I was hoping someone has so i know if it's worth watching 👀

So, just like last year I did one of these, although really it's more like a thank you post to everyone who has been with me this year, to all of the new friends I've made, to all of the old friends whose friendships we've strengthened, to those who are no longer active but whom I still think of fondly...I just really love y'all and I want y'all to know that. Y'all have really made my 2024 a lot more bearable because let me tell you, this year...this year was fucking hard. "How could you miss?! He was 3ft in Front of You!" - When the Queer Option was right there the whole time.

I've touched on writers and execs not allowing queer relationships in media and forcing a heterosexual pairing before. Unlike my previous essay, this will be a short list of shows that sidelined a perfect queer relationship for straight washing.

The title is inspired by the immortal words of Mushu, because dear god how could these characters miss so badly with their love interests.

This list will include any bromance or BL dramas that fall into this category.

BBC's Merlin

Canon Pairing: Arwen (Arthur x Gwen)

Queer Pairing: Merthur (Arthur x Merlin)

Hell, I'm not even a big merthur shipper and I know that this would have made the show better. Angel Coulby and Santiago Cabrera have insane chemistry and can make an equally great side pairing.

2. 'Fangs of Fortune'

Canon: Wen Xiao x Zhao Yuanzhou

Queer Pairings:

Yuanyi (Zhuo Yichen x Zhao Yuanzhou)

Wen Xiao x Pei Sijing

Similar to Merlin, the main arc of the show is about Zhuo Yichen and Zhao Yuanzhou and the tragic promise they've made. Meanwhile, the show gives us these two gorgeous lesbians as well as a bonus. The tragedy of the show hinges on Zhuo Yichen and Zhao Yuanzhou's evolving relationship and a canon confirmation of their love for each other would have sealed the deal.

Thank god most bromance dramas don't have a female romance option.

3. The Devil Judge

Canon Pairing: Kim Gaon x Yoon Soohyun

Queer Pairing: Gahan (Kang Yohan x Kim Gaon)

Again, the entire show revolves around the evolving relationship of Kang Yohan and Kim Gaon. They make the show. Whilst Yoon Soohyun is an excellent friend to Gaon, their brief romance is the weakest part of the show.

4. Supernatural

Canon Pairing: Dean with various female flings but I guess Lisa was his longest relationship. Pretty sure he doesn't have a solid female love interest from S7 onwards compared to Sam who has several long term relationships.

Queer Pairing: Destiel (Dean x Castiel)

Oh sure, have Castiel confess his love and then get sent to super-hell. Wow. Amazing. The show avoided giving Dean a long term love interest for entire seasons while Castiel was RIGHT THERE. Pretty sure most people were only still watching to see if they would kiss.

5. The Painted Skin: The Resurrection

Canon Pairing: Princess Jing x Huo Xin

Queer Pairing: Princess Jing x Xiao Wei

If anyone's seen that video of a dance performed by the two Chinese women wearing red and blue, it's based off of this movie. Now, obviously everything that comes out of China is heavily censored but the chemistry between these two is insane. Can we ditch the man? I understand he's plot relevant but can we ditch him at the end after we realise we love one another?

6. BBC Sherlock

Canon Pairing: John Watson x Mary Watson

Queer Pairing: Johnlock (John x Sherlock)

Again, I'm not a big Johnlock shipper and I was actually pretty okay with John x Mary. But the last season was bad overall and what they did with Mary was annoying. This was a popular 2010's ship for a reason.

7. The Witcher

Canon Pairing: Geralt x Yennefer

Queer Pairing: Geraskier (Geralt x Jaskier)

Did I watch season 2 just because of Geraskier? Yes. Did I know that Geralt x Yennefer would always be the endgame because of the books and games? Yes. Still think these two were a better option. But I heard they made Jaskier bisexual in season 3 just not with Geralt so yay?

Anyway, thank god for Thai BL and danmei. If anyone has anymore let me know, these are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head

Kang Yohan 100%, not even close. I love him sm. He's gorgeous and an amazing character. Also I relate to him more than I probably should but we don't have time to unpack all that xD 2. Who is your favourite character (s) from TDJ?

This one's hard for me, there are so many moments in this show that I absolutely adore but if I have to pick it'll be Episode 12 for the Scene after Yohans Run with the iconic "I don't care if mankind goes extinct as long as I have you two" quote

3. Where do you see your favourite character in 10 years?

God I hope he's happy. That's all I care about. Happy, feeling safe and finally able to relax and be himself. Preferably with Gaon by his side as his husband and maybe even a little daughter of their own that he can pamper and treat like a princess.

4. Why do you think The Devil Judge fandom continues to this day?

There's a lot of reasons for this I think but most important is probably how unique the show is and how amazing the community is. Like, I don't think there is a single show out there that I'd compare to TDJ. The story, the characters, the writing, it all comes together so well. It's obviously not perfect but I love it and haven't found anything that comes close. And then there's the community. I've never felt more safe and welcome when joining any other fandom. You guys are so sweet and I love that sm.

5. How did you find The Devil Judge? (What made you watch?)

This part cracks me up because it was pure coincidence for me. I have hundreds of shows and movies on my Watchlist on Netflix but decided to browse the main page instead. A few rows down in between a bunch of other shows was TDJ and I even almost scrolled past it but decided to read the description and gave it a go. Was hooked from episode 1

1. Origin of username?

Around the time I came up with my username "mayykit," I was getting progressively less comfortable with using my real name on the internet. My previous username was a pun off of my real name, and in wanting to keep the spirit of humor, while using a new nickname I felt comfortable with online (Kit), a friend and I brainstormed for about an hour on what combination of letters could make a good pun with the sound "kit" either in the beginning or the end. At some point, I think I said something in frustration along the lines of - "I just have no idea what to make it..." and my friend went dead quiet before they started laughing. Thus, MayyKit was born.

2. OTPs/ships?

Oooh.

Gahan - kim gaon/kang yohan (the devil judge)

Iwaoi - iwaizumi hajime/oikawa tooru (haikyuu)

Kagehina - kageyama tobio/hinata shouyou (also haikyuu)

3. Favorite color?

Big fan of charcoal grey, or like. Mulberry red. I like most muted colors.

4. Song stuck in my head?

At the minute, it's FXXK IT by Big Bang.

5. Weirdest habit/trait?

For some reason, I get a weird, unbalanced feeling if I take the last step of a staircase with my left foot, so often I'll either count the steps before I go up/down so I can end on the right foot, or I'll take the last two steps together so that my right foot can be the one to finish the stairs. It's something I've done since I was a kid.

6. Hobbies?

I've got a ton of 'em. I've been ice skating for quite a while, so I spend a good amount of time on that; I also play a lot of piano and flute, and I'll occasionally revisit violin (I used to play in grades 5-10). I also like to read (mostly the same few books I've been reading for years but I do like exploring new fanfics), I do a good deal of digital art or traditional drawing in my free time, and I like listening to music as much as I enjoy playing it. I used to creatively write a lot, but I've been simmering in writers' block from the sheer amount of writing I have to do for my classes. I've gotten quite into cooking recently (especially soups), and I think I'm also going to get back into language learning once my workload eases up.

7. If you work, what's your profession?

Student. University. Political science and business degrees. Graduating in ten or so weeks... Aiming for law... (Although I also do some volunteer work in education, ice skating, and arts/entertainment.)

8. If you could have any job?

In an ideal world, I'd love to get into acting. It's the idea of getting to live and experience and explore so many different lives and states of being... and getting paid for it?? Yes please.

9. Something you're good at?

Analyzing things from lots of perspectives. I'm a big analyzer, and I do a lot of it in my work across the board. I also do it a lot for fun. Keeps my brain moving and happy :)

10. Something you hate?

Two-faced behavior. Fake.

11. Something you forget?

Umm... uhh... good question. Better question might be what I don't forget... Hmm... I forget my toothbrush almost every time I travel, if that counts...

12. Your love language?

Sharing food #1. But also, just being interested in each others' interests even if there's no personal connection necessarily. Two individuals with separate lives who just deeply want to share their happiness with one another. Mwah.

13. Favorite movies and TV shows?

There's gonna be some range here. Basically anything Ghibli, A Silent Voice, Big Hero 6, The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, South Park, The Devil Judge, Law School, True Beauty, Weak Hero Class 1 (season 2 is almost out!!!), Twinkling Watermelon, Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Haikyuu, and Revenge Note 2.

14. Favorite food?

My go-to answer lately has been malatang (spicy hot pot), but there's this dish my mom makes at home with beef, tomato, and occasionally egg that is - in my opinion - completely unparalleled in yummyness. I could have that with rice or noodles genuinely any day every day, probably.

15. Favorite animal?

I like cats very much. But also ermines are SO adorable and I'm so pleased to exist in the same universe as them. I would genuinely sob out of joy if I ever got to hold one.

16. What was I like as a child?

Controlled chaos in the form of a goody two shoes. I loved reading and creative writing (and got labeled as "the perfect student" for it) because I could be as unhinged as I wanted, as long as it was on paper and not towards other people.

17. Favorite subject in school?

K-5, I loved math; 6th through middle school, I was a huge fan of history and English; high school, chemistry and physics had my soul. Currently, as a uni student, the ball's pretty split between political science (my major!) and education studies.

18. Least favorite subject?

Biology and computer science. I'm pretty good at bio, I just don't like how memorization-based a lot of it is. But then, compsci is the one subject that my brain simply refuses to process.

19. Best trait?

Thoughtfulness. I tend to approach my tasks and the people around me with a lot of intentionality and consideration, and I'd like to think it's a pretty good trait of mine. It combines my other good traits - analysis with empathy, deep care with rational pathways for it - and does a lot of good in my life.

20. Worst trait?

I can be mentally dramatic, but I'll almost never say it out loud. The dramatism makes me quick to judge, and rather harshly - others and myself alike - but staying mostly silent on those thoughts tends to leave people around me very much in the dark on where I stand. It's also just not good for me since I spiral easily when I do that.

21. If you could change any detail of your life, what would it be?

I just need my wi-fi to stay alive. And consistent.

22. If you could travel in time, who would you want to meet?

My parents when they were young, probably. I wish I knew what they were actually like as people before they became parents.

i'm playing fast and easy with the rules of this one (which you can find here). instead, you'll find numbered snippets from a bunch of WIPs i am 75-90 per cent done but ambivalent about which to update first. gahan readers, what interests you most?

1. even gods can't change the past

gaon stares listlessly at the stickers lining the base of the night lamp. despite repeated disinfectings, they haven't come off, dinosaurs, trucks, sparkly muffins. things he had put there to make their hospital stay livelier. 

'i guess we're even now,' soohyun says, quiet and mostly to herself. 

gaon thinks for a while. 'chief jo?' he guesses. soohyun had a girlish fascination with her mentor that in turn made the normally gruff man go tongue tied. 

'what -- no. jishin,' she says as if this explains anything. when gaon looks over at his wife sitting on the bed beside him, she looks guilty, sad, and relieved. the guilt is most prominent. 

'what --' says gaon, having to swallow because his mouth is suddenly dry. 'are you talking about?'

2. unnamed modern strangers in a bar au

the stranger backs gaon up until he hits the brick wall behind them, none too gently. but the man pays no attention to this. he looks at gaon with desire both ferocious and unyielding. 

'this husband of yours,' says the stranger angrily, sliding his hands into gaon's thick hair and keeping them there. 'you talk about him like he walks on water but he's only a man.'

'he's my world,' replies gaon breathlessly, eyes fixed on the man's mouth. then the stranger is kissing him.

3. omega spin-off of enantiomers

gaon spins in yohan's arms so they're back to chest, before sensuously dragging himself down yohan's front until he's crouched at yohan's feet. yohan's hands tighten around his when gaon looks up at him from the floor, smilingly and with heat. 

'that look is why i put a baby inside you the first time around,' yohan says, stroking gaon's hands. there's a hint of warning to his tone. and desperation. he can't be held responsible for what he does if gaon keeps this up. 

gaon laughs delightedly.

of course, that's when the bedroom emits a wail that filters down the hallway and into the living room.

4. everything everywhere all at once

soohyun's eyebrows go up in shock. 'you still love him,' she says accusingly. 'not just that -- you want to go back to him. your parents died because of kang yohan!' she yells this last part, stomping her feet in enraged helplessness. 

'good people die without good reason,' gaon replies, feeling his cheeks redden.

she looks at gaon like he's grown another head. 'are you listening to yourself right now? you'll forgive kang yohan, and for what? he broke your heart. you were devastated for weeks!'

'i'm not selfless, soohyun-yah. not like you,' gaon replies, voice cracking. he searches for the words, pulling them from deep inside him. 'after appa died, i kept the restaurant open to prove that i could. helping people came after. but i can't do it anymore. i can't keep dragging on like everything is normal when seeing how fucked up everything is is destroying me.'

soohyun visibly swallows her words, letting gaon finish. 

'i hurt,' gaon whispers, 'all the time. i'm so angry. it's like looking into an abyss but now it looks back at me. being with yohan makes me feel safe, like i'll survive this. like there's more to living than just pain.'

soohyun hunches over at the knees and hugs herself. 'why does it have to be kang yohan?' she says miserably.

'i don't know.' gaon approaches, choreographing his intent. he pulls her into a hug when she doesn't resist. 'it's fucked up. i'm fucked up but i miss him terribly.'

'what if he breaks your heart again?' she sniffles against gaon's chest, voice going flat with inevitability. 

'he might,' gaon admits, squeezing her in final consolation. 'but i'll go my whole life regretting it if i don't try.'

5. elevator troubles

‘bujangnim?’ gaon asks, knocking on the heavy wooden door for appearance’s sake before striding in. but yohan’s not there.

the sound of his harsh breathing fills the office. he makes his way over to where late afternoon sunlights spills through the floor to ceiling windows and stares at the traffic twenty stories below, tiny trucks and tinier people. 

he's livid. if he could, he would shatter every single window of this ministry building with the frequency of his rage.

a hand slips over his eyes, cooling their heat and blocking his vision. a body follows behind. 

‘shhh,’ rumbles yohan in gaon’s ear, moulding himself around gaon, silken wool and heat and support everywhere. his other hand lands on gaon's chest, over gaon's fast beating heart. 

gaon’s only reaction is a hitch in his breathing. his muscles remain tightly coiled, his hands clenched in fists at his sides.

'he told me that my parents would be proud of me for doing the right thing,' gaon says with long pauses between into the red blackness. 'when he -- when he was the one who helped doh young choon --' he breaks off with a stifled sound, enraged.  

yohan's joyless chuckle rumbles through gaon's body. 'min jung ho is a viper.' his inflection doesn't change when gaon grabs his wrist. 'down to his venomous words.'

'what gives him the right,' gasps gaon, eyes turning wet with frustrated tears under yohan's palm. he presses back into yohan's body. 

'none,' says yohan simply. 'just as he has no right to dispense justice.'

'i want to hurt him, so, so badly,' gaon confesses, pulling yohan's hand away. 

‘we will,’ says yohan. 

future promises aren't enough. gaon whirls around. 'now, yohan.' he pushes the unresisting older man backwards until yohan's thighs hit the heavy oak table. 'i want to destroy him now.'

6. my heart goes back to you, i just don't know

trigger warning, beware.

jung sunah pulls gaon’s face up with a fistful of silky, dark hair. gaon’s pupils are blown wide. yohan catches a peek of red tongue as gaon swallows, sweat beading along the younger man’s temple. yohan knows this expression from when he looked into the mirror all those weeks ago after jung sunah had ambushed him. 

she drugged gaon.

yohan watches with a foreboding feeling as jung sunah simply stares at gaon. the hunger on her face is…not good. she cocks her head, hand traveling to gaon’s panting mouth. yohan watches her fit two perfectly manicured fingers, nails painted rouge into the seam of gaon’s mouth; feels somehow worse when gaon doesn’t resist. 

‘he’s nothing! a means to an end,‘ barks yohan. he sounds affected because he is. he knows what’s happening here, what jung sunah is making him a bystander to.

she ignores this. ‘you know, i never liked giving blowjobs,’ she says conversationally. ‘they’re demeaning. the power differential is obvious. men enjoy it.’  she tilts gaon’s face up using the fingers in his mouth.

gaon pants heavily, eyelashes turning wet as he blinks slow and hard. ‘seeing kim pansanim on his knees makes me understand the appeal of it.’

‘is that why you brought him here?’ yohan asks, thinking quickly. ‘to get to me?’

‘you put your hand on his shoulder on live television,’ she replies in a faraway voice, but yohan can read her now.

1. Are you named after anyone?

I am not. My grandmother picked my name to somewhat match my big sister's (we both have names beginning with L) but that's about it.

2. When was the last time you cried?

I guess yesterday? Because my back pain suddenly got ten times worse and sometimes when I tried to move I'd get a stabbing sensation that made me spontaneously start crying. Which is pretty impressive considering that I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

It was also confusing because it wasn't a conscious choice of mine or anything. My body just decided it hurt too much and therefore tears were required. While I was just completely baffled by what was happening because crying from pain isn't something I do very often.

It was an interesting experience.

3. Do you have kids?

Nope.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Not anymore, no. When I was a teenager, it seemed to be the only kind of humour I could actually pull off, but I've been steering away from it more and more. Now I'm saving it for special occasions ;)

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

I genuinely can't say. I think it depends more on the person I'm seeing/meeting than anything I have control over. Like, with some I might notice their posture, with others it's their hair colour (if it's something very noticeable), with others it's the way they speak.

I really don't have a set order or something I look for first.

6. What's your eye colour?

Greenish blue

7. Scary movie or happy ending?

Happy ending. Always.

8. Any special talents?

I'm really good with my hands and usually excel at most types of crafts or creative pursuits I attempt, from art and sculpturing to sewing, weaving, embroidery, making furniture, baking etc.

I'm also good at reading people and situations, which comes in handy when I write.

9. Where were you born?

In the north of Sweden.

10. What are your hobbies?

Honestly too many to count. But the ones I spend most time on right now are drawing, writing, reading, playing video games, and taking walks.

11. Do you have pets?

Sadly, no :C

But I grew up with dogs and love them to absolute bits. One of my favourite words in Swedish is "hundlängtan" which basically just means "dog longing" or "longing for a dog."

That's me. I am in a perpetual state of longing for a dog.

12. What sports do you/have you played?

Basketball, floorball, and badminton were the most organised, but I also did gymnastics and skiing as a kid.

13. How tall are you?

176 cm (5'9)

14. Favourite subject in high school?

History! Because I had an AMAZING teacher who made it so, so much fun, especially with the ugly little drawings he kept making on the whiteboard. Half of the time, we couldn't even see what he was drawing, but that was a part of the charm.

I also really liked English :)

15. Dream job?

I would honestly love to be an artist or a writer full-time, but I'm too scared (and comfortable with my current salary) to attempt it. But if I could choose without having to take finances into consideration? Definitely an artist or a writer.

A lot of the fics I've never finished had terribly angsty endings planned. Of the ones I've finished, probably don't let me know or found this gray (apathy). Anything Devil Judge that focused on K was angsty.

@clawbehavior , thanks for tagging me! Took a while cause I'm basically a one-track mind. I work on one fic at a time and can't multi-task cause will lose the feel for the story. So when this tag came along, I had to go through my files to remember what I've done but not finished.

So first off WIPs for The Devil Judge

A Dare and a Twist of Fate.

Been working on this the whole of 2023 and everytime I thought I'm near to finishing, the story kept growing.

It started out purely as wanting to write a smut piece with dom and sub hints and always with Yohan having supernatural powers to do smutty stuff to Gaon. And inspired by this photo that I doctored. Took them from two separate photos and merged them into one.

Here are the originals that I took from.

I was nearing to finishing this fic when I got distracted by others that I want to write And when I came back to it in Nov 2023, I ended up re-writing a major portion, hence the delay.

First Anniversary

I wrote this 2 years ago. And its more my take on why Yohan hadn't taken Gaon with him when he left for Switzerland. And with some conspiracy thrown in cause there would be those who refused to believe Yohan had died in the bombing - the government as well as those who seek revenge upon him, especially the children of those Yohan had killed in the bombing.

The title first anniversary, it was because the story started out on the first anniversary of Soohyun's death. And I used lots of flower meaning and language in the fic cause that was the only way Yohan could communicate with Gaon who was under the scrutiny of the police as well as anyone who wanted to find Yohan through Gaon.

Here's an excerpt.

Underneath the fluorescent lights, the three stalk of flowers looked even prettier with their blue petals and pale yellow centres. But there was no note, no card, no messages of any sort, sending doubt worming through Gaon's heart.

And it was only when the paper wrapping had been removed did Gaon see the tiny word written on each plastic tubes - the ones which the stalk had been individually inserted into so that the water inside could hydrate it.

Anemone, windflowers.

Their symbolism, it had Gaon's heart lurching cause Anemone meant protection from evil and from misfortunes. And the blue ones had the added meaning of complete trust in the receiver of the flowers.

Gaon, to think that he hadn't been forsaken despite what he had done to Yohan as well as Elijah. It had tears spilling, Gaon aching to have Yohan here right now so that he could crush him in his embrace.

The two would be reunited in the end and was 90% written before I got distracted again.

Red and Black.

Another incomplete fic I hadn't touch for more than a year. It's loosely based on Red Riding Hood. And inspired by these two pics.

I sort of got embarrassed with the latest chapter I've written and also the sudden loss of comments which had me doubting whether I've written the story right. So I didn't continue and although I still have an idea how it will end, I've lost some of the details as I hadn't touched it for so long.

Gahan AU - Dating Show

This fic is also an old one, and its based on the idea that Gaon, despite his degree in law, he had decided to give up being a judge so that he can become a 'train chaser'. Those fans of railway trains who will travel around to take photos of them.

And he worked part-time at a cafe with Jinjoo as his boss. And one day, the TV station had made a huge delivery order from the cafe. Hence, Gaon having to deliver them and being unwittingly dragged into becoming a participant for a new dating show. Cause one of the male participants hadn't shown up, and they were short of one.

Here's an excerpt.

Gaon had never in his life had three women fighting to undress him. Face growing darker by the minute as he fought to keep his demin jacket on. And head jerking away from the pony-tailed woman who kept pushing his fringe up, tsking at how it was hiding the beauty of his face.

And just when Gaon thought he had to punch one of them in order to get away. Someone else had waded in, joining in the fray.

A man, much much older than him, sliding his palms down his chest and goosebumps prickling Gaon's skin. Then gripping his shoulders and smiling a smile that had Gaon shrinking from the threat that was simmering within.

"You either come along with me or get very naked right now."

That older man was of course Yohan, producer of the new dating show. And who had Gaon re-made - from a nerd to quite an attractive catch. But Gaon wasn't someone who would obey meekly. Plotting to ruin his chances of staying on the show by acting all crude and rough and callous.

This one has no title cause it lives rent-free in my head.

Inspired by an old K-drama called, Are You Human? And in the drama there was a very human-like robot that had been built, and the female lead falling in love with it.

So I have this image of Yohan being an AI butler, as real as any humans out there. And in a dystobian Korean society, every judge is assigned an AI butler to attend to their needs and see to their mental and physical well-being.

It is purely smut and explicit with Gaon coming home one night pissed and stressed out with the shit he had to deal in court. And Yohan AI butler trying to relieve his stress, using sex as a means to do so based on what Google had told him was the best way to do so.

So these are the WIPs I haven't finish. ☺️
