Like, moving to a big city in September 2020 only to be locked in a house with 4 strangers and basically never see the light of day for nine months was 1) a terrible experience overall and 2) not a bad setup for a horror series of some sort, but also I am nostalgic for a few things from that time
April 2023 • My old friend came home to visit from Washington. Her name is Esperanza but we call her Espie. We went to Hallpass at the Gateway. I’ve heard a lot about it, and it’s so much cooler than I could imagine! It’s food court style where you can order a few different styles of food and they give you a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready. Then something different for Utah standards is there is an open bar you can order drinks at as well! And I mean it’s quality eats and drinks. Not just your run of the mill fast food type. All the food is gourmet and the cocktails we were recommended were like I was ordering from one of the higher end bars in town. We started with a ‘Berry Me’ cocktail that contained a natural juice mix of blueberries, strawberries & raspberries with champagne. Our second round was called a ‘Julius Cesar’ which was an excellent boozy take on an orange julius. It has vanilla vodka, orange juice, and oat milk! This was my favorite of the three we tried. The third was their latest concoction that is available only for a limited time. I don’t think they had named it yet but it’s a boozy take on a lime ricky! It has a speciality rum, grape juice, & lime. The food we got was perfect. We started with poke nachos that is fresh tuna served with wonton chips in a teriyaki and spicey mayo sauce. Then we got some fish and chips and oh my god, you don’t usually get cod that good in a land locked state! Then we moved on to some boa buns and dumplings. The flavors we got were kung pao chicken, sezchuan beef and royale with cheese. They all were pretty damn good! That was my first time trying bao buns. Jazzy, Espie’s sister, shared her dumplings with us too! They’re more like pot stickers just not fried, they’re soft and come with a chili sauce on top. After we had our fill of food and cocktails we went upstairs to the movie theater to watch the Super Mario Bros movie that just came out in 3D. What an awesome day! Great food, great drinks, & great company to enjoy it all with!
