Like, moving to a big city in September 2020 only to be locked in a house with 4 strangers and basically never see the light of day for nine months was 1) a terrible experience overall and 2) not a bad setup for a horror series of some sort, but also I am nostalgic for a few things from that time

#one of them obviously being minnie. i miss her every day and i hope she’s having a good time wherever she is now #i’m absolutely certain she’s found a different gang of hapless grad students to sit on and beg for tuna from. it’s what she excels at #second; smoking 🍃 on the front porch with my flatmates. or smoking out the attic window. honestly a quintessential grad school experience #third; the food. oh my god the food. the time i ordered bao buns and then got so high i forgot i ordered bao buns and then i remembered #my bao buns. i was so happy. i have never felt such a rush of love for any being as i did for myself in that moment #and the food was transcendent #fourth; grocery shopping was so good because the prices hadn’t gone up insanely yet and there was never anyone in the shop #fifth; movie nights with my flatmates. and watching random crap like classic who wants to be a millionaire and columbo and stuff #usually none of us were sober and one of us would order burgers #sixth; watching the across the street neighbours. there was this house of seven undergrads across from us; all lads; and they used to do #the weirdest shit. one time i spent a full ten minutes watching one of them take out the garbage and narrating everything he was doing #‘and here he is with more bottles… bottles again… jesus fucking christ how did they drink this much… rip to their liver… pizza boxes!#hey good for them for washing it down with something. ooh five black bin bags. intriguing’ but i swear to god it took Ages for him to take #it all out. i was like ‘i know there’s seven of them but how did they produce this much’#another time the one who had an afro despite being white and the one who was somewhat good looking had a dance party in their living room #while only wearing boxers. i was like ‘do they know we can see them?’ and the others were like ‘idk’ lol #idk where this is going. i was just thinking about it just now. i wouldn’t do all of that again honestly but i miss certain moments #and i hope everyone from that time who i’ve lost touch with is well. apart from sb. he can fuck off #personal

If you want to know a person, watch how they treat their servers, how they treat their food. Living with them is the second best option. Living with Ray is not Henry’s only option, but it is the best. They don’t even need to watch the other eat; they know each other already.

The borrowed text refers to the uncanny feeling Henry experiences as an adult reflecting on his childhood relationships. ]

Catherine Lacey writes in her short story “Cut”: “If you're raised with an angry man in your house, there will always be an angry man in your house. You'll find him even when he is not there. And if one day you find that there is no angry man in your house—well, you will go find one and invite him in!” Peggy—a professor—reads this poem, which a female student has placed on her desk, and grapples with a response, to which she is advised, “It’s not your job to save anyone from their life or explain anything to them or even really teach them anything”.

PANEL NOTES

This follows the format of the catalyst stranger approaching the downtrodden protagonist in a dingy bar from behind, backlit by the hazy yellow lights and smoked out shadows. This is not a bar, but a kitchen—the center of any living space.

The borrowed text is tweaked, and excludes the descriptor “angry”, as the theme of the storyboards is not anger.

The use of red is limited and strategic, and scattered throughout like evidence; dusting for fingerprints. It’s tempting to drape Henry’s back in red against the blue background, as if bathed by an overhead lamp, but Ray is the anomaly. Henry is colored by an anxious, slightly melancholic blue (as well as shaky panel borders), while the flints of red signify danger (knock on wood) or non-literal symbolism.

The white wolf is curled around the blue in a protective gesture that also doubles as a stranglehold, snakelike.

Something, something, about wolves and lambs, consumption, and the simultaneous loss and retention of innocence through transformative processes. Note there are three lambs; these could stand either for Henry, Jasper, and Charlotte, or Henry (singular).

Thoughts keep rattling in my head after reading the latest news on Yuzu’s divorce. No words of anger, disbelief, sadness, or sympathy can nearly cover my reaction, much less the reality the affected ones are experiencing.

To think that after finding a loved one to spend the rest of his life with, the autonomy to stay with her was taken away by the hulking, ugly price of media attention. Truly caught between a rock and a hard place — he showed us a sliver of his personal life with his marriage in the cautious hopes of also getting privacy and respect without further speculation in return…but speculation and violations were exactly what he was hit with.

I have no knowledge of what legal actions he could have taken, but what is clear is that Yuzuru Hanyu has been treated by media and perverse individuals as an object, a zoo animal, with no real respect. What’s even more disheartening is I don’t know if this situation could have been avoided between their desire for complete privacy and the opposing obsessive parties aiming to intrude as far as they can into his life. What a sad and disturbing reality to live in, that Yuzu is now a divorced man with the right to more than 5 lifetimes of media bitterness.

i just spent over an hour caramelizing onions (red onions deglazed with balsamic vinegar and just a splash of red wine) but it was so worth it because a grilled cheese with sourdough bread, goat cheese, and caramelized onions?? fucking TRANSCENDENT.

i made korean tacos for dinner (no recipe just vibes + what i had in the fridge) and they were unbelievably delicious. my god.

#with a lil hazy ipa on the side!!!!!!#i forgot how EASY and GOOD tacos are to just have fun with.#for the curious: i picked up some stir fry beef at the store and while i chopped cilantro/onion/radish/cukes i let it sit in a combo of:#gochujang + fish sauce + rice vinegar (a dash) + garlic + chili powder + cumin + black pepper + salt + lime juice + onion powder #(just a bunch of stuff i had laying around - use what you have or can get)#then after the veggies were chopped and ready to go i tossed all the meat in a wok and cooked it up #THEN after pulling out the meat i threw a couple tortillas in the wok one at a time and sprinkled some cheese on one side to melt and get #a lil crispy...and also mixed some mayo + sriracha into a sauce for drizzling #(i would've used sour cream instead of mayo if i'd had any but mine was bad T-T)#also i'm out if kimchi or i would've put that on top too. god that would've been so good. i'm kinda mad abt it #anyway then i filled the tortillas with the meat + cilantro + onion + cucumber + radish and drizzled on some sauce.#divine. transcendent. revelatory.#i absolutely love how well korean (honestly a lot of different asian) seasonings and flavor profiles pair with mexican foods and flavors.#CULINARY SYNERGY!!!!#i know this is not a new observation but it still brings me joy every time i remember #anyway fair warning i like spicy food so this is spicy. obviously.
