Our Dining Table, episode 7, thoughts. Gonna get sentimental again.

I mean. I actually don’t know what to say to start, because it was so perfect -- again, perfect balance, perfect tone. 

Again with the use of silence and ambient, real noise to emphasize the moment in time in which they’re living. Tane-kun crunching on the Santa candy. The sound of the guys climbing the stairs at night. Tane’s little voice half-singing to Yutaka as he’s patting Yutaka’s head. The beep of the thermometer that we can’t see. 

It just slows things down, and we get to live in their heads. We get to live in the swirl of Minoru’s emotions as he’s listening to Yutaka. Even before then -- we get to see his surprise, then we get to see him READY HIMSELF, steady himself, to listen to Yutaka’s story, as Yutaka is holding up the picture.

I may have SLIGHTLY lost it at the animation. I didn’t expect it. Especially as compared to how the story was told in the manga....gutting. I always say I’m not a canon fascist, but to see that part ACTUALLY ANIMATED, as the way that Yutaka HAD INTENDED TO TELL HIS FAMILY STORY of being ALONE as a child, in the manga itself -- I mean. My heart just stopped.

And as a mom -- I TOTALLY unintentionally giggled at Tane reacting to Yutaka’s crying, because it was so real! It was actually very real -- toddlers and tykes like that will absolutely cry when they see an adult they love crying (my daughter lost it the other day when I bumped my head in the kitchen, and I had to actually laugh and give her a huge hug, because of course, she freaked out at my reaction -- but her pure empathy gave me such joy).

And we’ve been seeing Yutaka and Tane get more and more closer, more comfortable with each other. Of course, the patting of Yutaka’s head was darling, but. The way Yutaka reached for Tane to hold him. And to say thank you -- thanking Tane-kun for.... a kind of unconditional love that Yutaka has never, ever had before. Unconditional love that comes from a child, but also, is also obviously coming from Minoru and Ueda-san as well. 

(Dudes. Ueda-san. DAD OF THE YEAR! MVP. SO SUBTLE.) 

I haven’t peeped the tag yet, so I hope there aren’t complaints about the kiss, because as @isaksbestpillow noted, the kiss was framed exactly according to Yutaka’s viewpoint of reception. As I always noted from the Cherry Magic days, I am always so happy with the implied kissing in Japanese doramas -- because I think they carry as much weight as anything else, considering that what we’re really watching is someone else’s experience of the moment.

The pace of this show is just so perfect. It moves exactly at same speed as the manga. I keep saying this: this show is the most intentional of the shows airing right now. Every last little drop of detail is meant to be exactly where it is to tell the story of Minoru and Yutaka’s coming together. This show is absolutely made with love, about love, and I’m so in love with it.

overall i fucking LOVED part one of dragons rising, it was filled with so much drama and action and GAHH MY HEART IS GOING CRAZY <333 LEGO REDEEMING THEMSELVES AFTER CRYSTALLISED WITH NOT JUST GOOD ANIMATION, BUT WRITING TOO??? (my only bad opinion tho is that the pacing can get a little wacky here and there)

Kaiju Flicks and Shrimp Chips by girlinstory

Saitama was expecting Godzilla.

He was expecting fuzzy science, epic kaiju, and a lot of municipal damage. He was expecting shrimp chips and Pocky. He was expecting a lighthearted movie night with his roommate.

He was not expecting Genos to cry his refuse-ducts dry on Saitama's seventh favorite hoodie.

Saitama sighed and started rummaging around in the pocket of his cargo shorts.

The kid sure cried a lot, but if anyone deserved to cry, it was probably Genos, so Saitama just started carrying hand towels instead of handkerchiefs. Today's towel was Doraemon.

He passed it to Genos, who started mopping up the oil that was streaming down his faceplates.

It looked a little like Genos was one of those girls in the TV Doramas Saitama surfed past sometimes, whose mascara had started to run because they were crying over their ex-girlfriend's twin's cousin's ghost or something. It looked a little pretty.

Saitama shook his head, as if it was an Etch A-Sketch and he could physically remove that thought.

"Is it 'cause they made Mechagodzilla a cyborg?" he asked.

Saitama had been surprised by that particular plot point as well. Mechagodzilla had been around since the Showa Era. When he was introduced in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, it was as a robotic superweapon created by simian aliens to aid in their conquest of planet earth.

The newer stuff was… different. For one thing, Mechagodzilla had been given a name. Kiryu, short for Kikai Ryu or metal dragon. He was created by the Japanese military, using the skeletal remains of the first Godzilla, all that was left behind after the Oxygen Destroyer's detonation in 1954.

There was a scene where Kiryu had a freaking flashback to his own death.

Genos had stiffened beside him, and the kid was usually pretty stiff in the first place.

He hadn't spoken though, so Saitama didn't mention it either. Genos didn't speak- or start crying (probably)- until the credits rolled on Tokyo SOS.

Saitama had been planning to save the second movie for another night, or forget it altogether, since it was probably bringing up some bad memories, but Genos had immediately switched it in and hit play.

Saitama thought about saying something then, but still, Genos was silent. Like, unusually silent. Maybe that meant he didn't want to talk. Saitama could understand that. Some things were better processed with kaiju flicks and shrimp chips.

Apparently not this though.

Genos nodded minutely into Doraemon.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"Mechagodzilla was not a functional weapon," Genos hiccupped.

"I underst- Wait." Saitama cleaned out his ear with a pinky. "What?"

"Mechagodzilla was not a functional weapon."

So he had heard him right. "That's… what's bothering you?"

"He malfunctioned because he was too traumatized. He kept having flashbacks and either going on a rampage or committing suicide."

Saitama tried to ignore the squirm in his intestines at that last word. He'd wondered sometimes about how Genos could talk near constantly without once mentioning his future after killing the Mad Cyborg.

"Genos, what are y-"

"It reminded me of something Metal Knight told me once," said Genos, in a rare interruption.

"The other cyborg?" Saitama had been trying to remember the names of all the S Class heroes because apparently the short one didn't like to be called that.

Genos was the only one he got right with any regularity.

"No, sensei, Metal Drive is the other cyborg. Metal Knight is Dr. Bofoi, who provides a significant amount of the Hero Association's weaponry in addition to his S Class duties."

"Oh, the one with all the body armor?"

"Correct, sensei," said Genos.

"Well, what'd he say?"

"That cyborgs are an inherently flawed idea, because anyone damaged enough to require substantial body modification is too damaged to be trusted with it."

After the minute or two it took him to figure out what that meant, Saitama immediately developed a very strong urge to give Dr. Bofoi at least a semi-serious punch.

He also felt himself flush with anger, which would usually bother him, because it always made people look at the top of his head, but Genos was too busy crying again.

"Yeah, well you're not damaged enough to say something like that," said Saitama. "I bet Dr. Bofoi wasn't hugged enough as a child. That explains all the armor. Intimacy issues."

Genos gave an oily laugh.

"Or maybe it's just because he looks like if Colonel Sanders was actually in the military."

That earned him a snort. Saitama vaguely wondered if Genos had boogers, and if they were made of oil too, but he wasn't damaged enough to ask.

"Forget Dr. Buffoon," Saitama said, casually switching over to an old magical girl anime he'd caught Genos glancing up from his notebooks to watch on more than one occasion.

Genos had enough nightmares as it was for Saitama to suggest rolling out their futons despite the late hour.

"Like he has room to talk," he went on, opening another box of Pocky. "You're a way better hero than he is. You'll outclass him in no time if the HA has any idea what they're doing."

Genos was steaming slightly. "Th- That is not true, sensei! It is you, who will- I'm not even-"

It was Saitama's turn to snort. "It's pretty hypocritical of you to be this bad at taking a compliment, Genos."

Genos steamed even harder, but at least he wasn't leaking anymore.

Tiktok and Instagram can't stop talking about it 😂

To make sure it wasn't a joke, I checked Netflix Brasil's official tiktok bio, as they were saying that she would have a ring emoji and burger king's @ in her tiktok bio.

While Burger King still hasn't put the same thing in the bio like Netflix.

Se tu aceitar apenas se relacionar quando sentir na mesma intensidade que os casais das séries que tu assiste, vai viver eternamente frustrado e sozinho, além de frustrar pessoas incríveis sem ter um motivo de verdade. Talvez tu já esteja acostumado, mas onde e pra quem repetir esse padrão é benéfico ou normal? Que lugar mágico e maravilhoso tu foi parar depois de me cortar da tua vida dessa forma?

Um relacionamento é uma construção, e vai inevitavelmente passar por altos e baixos, mas tocar tudo pro alto no primeiro contratempo com certeza não é a melhor escolha a se fazer. Achei que estávamos construindo algo formidável, e eu não entendo como tu foi capaz de simplesmente abandonar tudo. Onde tá o "triplex que eu construí na tua cabeça"?

Eu só queria te ter do meu lado, e pra mim não existia prazo nem necessidade de qualquer rótulo, apenas honestidade e vontade de estarmos um com o outro. Queria ter coragem pra fazer mais. Queria ficar plantado na frente da tua porta até tu decidir me olhar nos olhos e conversar comigo. Queria te abraçar tão forte e te beijar com tanta vontade que te faria mudar de ideia. As pessoas sempre se cansam e escolhem ir embora. O que elas não sabem é que eu também canso, mas sempre escolho ficar. 

E quanto a tudo que a gente disse que faria? Todo o tempo que passamos juntos, conexões que criamos, pessoas que apresentamos um pro outro (bem mais do teu lado, eu sei, mas tava tentando consertar isso). Tu entrou na minha vida, modificou minha rotina e ocupou meu tempo, só pra depois decidir sair deixando tudo bagunçado. Não é justo, e eu sei que a vida é assim, mas tu não precisava ser igual. Não merecíamos isso, meio ano tocado no lixo.

Eu sei que tu não quer ficar sozinho, então o que tu vai fazer? Voltar pro Tinder e recomeçar o ciclo? Ou pior, se aventurar no catálogo de babacas do Grindr? Tu é melhor que isso, e deveria saber também que ninguém lá vai ser melhor do que eu.

Não falar contigo é tão ruim. Odeio não receber o teu bom dia, tuas atualizações dos freaks na academia, odeio me impedir de te mandar diversas coisas que sei que te fariam rir ou fazer “óoun”. Odeio chegar no final de semana e lembrar que não vou te ver nem dormir contigo. Odeio pensar que tu escolheu repetir um padrão tóxico em vez de lutar contra ele pra tentar um final diferente. Odeio pensar que tu não acreditou na gente.

Queer Subtext in "The Guest" (Korean Dorama)

Or... how I justed wanted to watch a Gen Supernatural show and ended up falling for it's Beautiful M/M love story.

I don't know if you watch korean doramas, I do. This time I was on Netflix with my husband looking for a supernatural show, after watching a couple of it, and we crashed into "The Guest".

This attempt of analysis of the queer Subtext will have some spoilers so, If you don't want to be spoiled, jus scroll down. But go watch this show. Hahahaha

Disclaimed that, let's go to the East Sea...

Pansexual Flag for CHOI YOON and gay flag for HWA PYOUNG.

First apparition of Father Choi YOON, walking down a dark alley. You will find by his right, against a closed business shutter, Pansexual Flag Colors. What a presentation card for a priest, and is so symbolically beautiful, because philosophically, the spiritual leader should have the ability to love every creature, no matter what. So it applies to the decision of the writers to make Yoon linked to that kind of love.

Then we have Pyung, the medium. This boy is very enthusiastic, but he has surrounding him his grandfather and his best friend asking him, almost continually, to find a girl and get married. The poor medium doesn't answer, and he looks annoyed each time they mention that.

In one opportunity his grandfather asks if there's something wrong with him, and the boy snorts slightly, avoids eye contact and says, frustrated "No, grandpa."

Jumping to another scene... Yoon and Hwa Pyung are in the car, and Pyung's best friend, the shaman, is alone in another car. While they're talking by the phone, we can see behind the shaman the pride flag colors. And now you will ask... Why? Well... There's this part of the dialogue between Pyung and the shaman, in which he asks why he has to be alone in the car and Yoon and Pyung are together in the other car... Ahem... Pyung hungs the phone without answering. And the scene cuts to the shaman, with the pride flag in the background. The shaman frowns confused.

Nothing to add here...

Heart broken

There's two opportunities in which Pyung shows how heartbroken he was... Because of Yoon and how the writers wrote it with romantic subtext.

The first time Pyung faced Park Han, the assamblywoman, Choi YOON got mad and tells the detective he won't work anymore with Hwa Pyung.

Scenes after this, we have a very sad Pyoung in the shaman house, and his friend notices his sadness and asks if he was dumped.

Pyung looks somewhere and he repeats: "Yeah, I was dumped..."

Who just had dumped our cute medium? Well... Our cute priest.

Another scene in which he is in a worst depressed shape, again, in his best friend's house, he mentioned, gloomy, that at least someone is bothering him... Why? What had just happened in this episode? Well, Choi YOON said to him he couldn't trust him.

The shaman, insightful as he was, says that he looks too sad those days. And when Choi YOON goes surprisingly to his house, the shaman asks the priest if Pyung's depression is because he is in love with the detective. Well, kind of. I can't be very specific with the dialogues because I watched it with spanish subtitles. But that was the idea they transmitted.

Always looking when the other is not looking. And the handsome priest...

And remember in the police station when Pyung called Yoon the handsome priest that gives advises to the congregation in front of the cop?

Another huge subtext is Yoon looking at Pyung when he's not looking and Pyung looking at Yoon when he's not looking. Always related to sad things of their last being revealed or called back. And why is this meaningful and it has to be taken as queer Subtext or romantic?

Kang Hil Young is their female detective friend. As a very insightful person, she notices the relationship between these two boys and in the scenes, she's always separated from them but also she's a kind of nexus. Because both boys talk with her, instead of talk with each other, as the stubborn and shy boys in love they're.

All the "stealing glances" scenes are centered between Pyung and Yoon. And less about Hil Young. This is written on propose to show Yoon and Pyung relationship is different to Pyung and Hil Young or Yoon and Hil Young relationships. Because the boys have this aura between them, this romantic tension always around them. That doesn't happen when they're with Him Young.

The precious one, the fight and the "Titanic like" scene.

Pyung will ask Hil Young to save Yoon instead of him. He is determined to give his life in exchange of the priest. He calls Yoon THE PRECIOUS LIFE THAT YOUR MOTHER SAVED, when he asks Hil Young to take care of Yoon. Why would a bro ask to his friend to take care of his bro? Why he didn't ask to this bro to take care of his friend instead? 🤔😜

Pyung always showing up at Yoon's place after a hard day? Why Yoon? Why not Hil Young's place too?

Also the scene of Pyung trying to hide a talisman but at the same time, sliding his hand with it inside of Yoon's pants and Yoon gay panic face yelling: 'What are you doing?' And Pyung insisting in puting that talisman inside Yoon's pants and then failing, frustrated because Yoon discovered it was a tasliman?

The scene of the fight between Yoon and Pyung WAS HELLA DRAMATIC AND FULL OF ROMANTIC SUBTEXT!

First of all, we had that music playing while Yoon tried to force himself to believe Park Il do (the demon) was inside of Pyung, because if he wasn't... That's would mean the demon was possesing Father Yang, that was like a second father to our cute priest.

Second, both friends had UNSHED TEARS in their eyes.

Third: Pyung was too heartbroken to react.

Fourth, the Yoon ended up ON TOP OF HIM WITH HIS HAND ON HIS THROAT, that, my friends, was one of the most hot m/m scenes. They remained like that, not strangling, but just his hand holding his throat. Like... Yeah. Go get a room.

When they thought everything was finished. Pyung was staying in his town and called Hil Young asking her to bring his stuffs from his apartment. To which she replies 'why don't you ask Yoon?' And our shy medium replies "He's too busy."

So, Yoon and Pyung didn't call each other, but they both called Hil Young.

She asks Yoon to be nice with Pyung because PYUNG HAD ASKED HER TO TAKE CARE OF HIM INSTESD OF PYUNG. (Yeah, she confessed that to the priest)

And i suspect she told Yoon about Pyung asking her for his stuffs because the medium considered Yoon was TOO BUSY. Why? Because the scene in which Yoon shows up in Pyung's town to check the people that had been posseses, he calls Pyung.

Our cute medium goes immediately : BUY MEAT, I'M FEELING SICK, STAY TONIGHT TO SLEEP IN MY HOUSE, and what does reply the priest? I'LL THINK ABOUT IT. NOW I HAVE TO GO BECAUSE I'M TOO BUSY. And he hangs the phone smirking!!!! Translation?

'I'm too busy because you said I'm too busy to bring your stuffs! I thought you didn't want to see me and now you are too happy to see me!!?? Watch me flirt with you and show you I'm not that easy.

And also, the poor girl is so tired to be the third wheel...

When they said goodbye in the road, Hil Young goes inside the car but Yoon and Pyung were there... Trying to sound cool, and 'You did well's 'Yeah, you top's, like two dorks, while the female friend watched them as if she was saying COME ON!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS? At the end Pyung confessed he was about to give his life in exchange of Yoon's life... And shy priest just goes inside the car.

But everything goes to hell when Park Il Do posseses Pyung and tries to strangle Yoon.

What did our cute medium yell to the demon? 'Don't touch him! Don't you dare to touch him!"

The scene is so romantic I showed my friend (who didn't watch the show) a gif and she said WTF IS THAT? TITANIC?

Because, yeah, hella gay. They hel hands and then... Pyung reacts and before pushing Yoon's hand to release him to the surface, he rubbed his freaking fingers!!!!!

Not to mention he wss carrying with the rosary the priest left in his hand under the water for one entire year even when he wasn't catholic!!! HE DID IT BECAUSE YOON GAVE IT TO HIM!

To Conclude:

The subtext of a queer love story was magnificencia displayed, but it was more beautiful to see how inncoents, and shy and cute these two were with each other. So if you wanna see a cute m/m love story plus friendship loyalty and action, watch this dorama. I plenty recommend it!

PS: I'm calling this ship PYOON!

Alright, it is officially my opinion that ::points index fingers in the air and waves them in circles:: -- if Ameiro Paradox/Candy Color Paradox is not GREAT, then at least it is VERY GOOD in my book, because I see it trying to be a good show!

Episode five was really satisfying for me! Yes, the acting is still somewhat questionable, but again -- I think I really appreciate Kimura Keito and Yamanaka Jyutaro trying as best they can. I think these guys just need more acting experience.

Why do I say that -- I say that because, as compared to the increasingly incomparable Izuka Kenta (IZUKA KENTA, MORE ON YOU IN A SEC), these two are CLEARLY less experienced. Izuka, man -- he’s been in a lot of doramas, he’s a stage guy (he’s acted in something  on stage with Kimura Tatsunari of Old Fashion Cupcake before, I just have to spend time tracking down what that actually was), he’s experienced. When you compare Kimura’s Onoe to Izuka’s Inami, you just see that Kimura is young and fresh and not a veteran, like Izuka. (I clearly need to watch Zettai BL -- I’ll put it on my essential watching list.) These young guys may get better with age, at least I hope so!

Anyway, I so freaking like that Izuka as Inami is being set up as a kind of player/enemy-like character. I love the implications of that, and I love that Kabu got confused in the end, and I love how Onoe ran to him and was kind of melodramatic and super awkward about hugging Kabu, and I love the weird and incomplete communication these two have. They’re CUTE TOGETHER, what can I say? I’m like, such a soccer mom for cheering these guys on from the sidelines -- go be your awkward selves, honeys! Despite the melodrama, I have to cheer for them. 

Super excited for next week’s episode, I want to see Izuka get all evil and shady, and I want to see Kabu uplifted and excited. I am SO DOWN with Izuka becoming an BL legend -- he found his lane, I love it! (And reminder: looks like there will be new news about The Novelist/The Pornographer next week, so mmmmmmaaaybe Izuka’s appearance on Paradox is meant to hype up The Novelist again?)

So, yeah, Paradox obviously does not come close to the quality of The New Employee, but I’m happy for it being a part of this winter season -- I am officially a strong defender of this soapy mess!

• Literally the first card that fell out was the Nine of Wands

• My poor bunny...

• He’s feeling so insecure

• A little weary

• It seems that something big is going to happen around July

• It’s either his official comeback or some other project in which he’s involved

• It will take him some time to regain his strength but it’s a steady rise

• Actually it’s the best way for him to proceed forward

• At a safe, steady and comfortable pace

• Because he still has a reputation to fix

• God that infuriates me!

• The fact that he has gone through so much and it seems like some people in the industry behind the scenes are still treating him badly

• At first he’s gonna face a lot of criticism mostly from people he’s working with

• However things are gonna change once a big opportunity lands his way

• I honestly think it’s something like starring in a movie/dorama or perhaps collaborating with some other artist

• Whatever it is it’s gonna push him forward and finally switch the focus from his past to his new accomplishments

• But he has to be careful with not taking up too many projects at once

• And not to let others persuade him in doing that

• I think however that he’ll have to learn it the hard way

• Probably letting someone else talk him into participating in some project that doesn’t really benefit him that much

• So he’ll have to overwork himself just to make sure both his own projects and someone’s else are being done well

• I think there might even be financial loss from his side at some point because of that

• He’ll have to learn how to say ‘no’ and walk away unashamed of standing up for himself

• I feel like he needs to learn how to face the world on his own

• It pains me to see this actually...

• He has to grow up a little bit and leave behind some of his childlike naïveté

• My sweet bunny...

• He’s not losing himself however

• He’s just evolving

• But a part of me always wanted to protect this side of him

• I mean he’s not totally innocent or naive to the point of being clueless but he has a very kind and pure heart

• I hope nobody tries to exploit him

Haloo manusia aku temu pagi, panggil aja aku sirip karena aku suka banget sama ikan ehehe. Aku lahir di Sidoarjo, untuk bulan dan tanggal nya tepat sebelum Ibu Kartini dilahirkan. Aku adalah anak kedua dari dua bersaudara. Aku punya 1 saudara kakak cowok dan aku adalah anak terakhir *oiya aku cewek yak. Saat ini aku sedang menempuh pendidikan di salah satu perguruan tinggi negeri di Indonesia. Banyak orang yang bilang kalo aku orangnya aneh banget dan gajelas, jujur emang iya sih soalnya banyak orang yang liat aku dengan muka jijik liat orang freak kaya aku wkwk, monmaap yak. Banyak orang yang bilang juga kalo aku receh banget, ya gatau juga yak. Biasanya kalo lagi senggang aku suka menghabiskan waktu untuk nonton film, baca buku, menggambar sambil dengerin musik, ataupun sekadar mager-mageran atau rebahan gajelas sambil ngekhayal apapun yang ngga realistis wkwk. Bicara tentang film atau buku, aku suka banget genre thriller, action, dan fantasy. Aku juga suka banget teori-teori konspirasi. Oiyaa satu lagi aku suka dengan apapun yang berhubungan dengan Jepang wkwk, mulai dari bahasa, budaya, anime, dorama, musik, biasanya orang nyebutnya si otaku, ya gitulah. Yahh beginilah akhir dari cerita perkenalan yang gajelas ini, monmaap yak atas ketidakjelasanku😭

Do Russians follow American pop culture? Are things like the Avengers and Star Wars popular there or do you guys have your own series and popular movies?

Yes, Russians follow it. Movies, shows, music, everything. These things are super popular here, they affect our culture just like they affect yours, but maybe to a somewhat lesser extent, as we’re into all kinds of stuff, Asian and European, and have a big mix in our heads. I don’t think that there’s anybody of my age in Russia who has never seen Friends, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Avengers, Game of Thrones or something xD Even Beverly Hills 90210 is a theme of jokes about neverending episodes. I’m a bit oldschool and I like Star Trek TOS. Some British shows are popular here as well like Doctor Who, Merlin and Sherlock, but for some reason I can’t watch anything British, Blackpool being the only exception that I kind of enjoyed xD Also, Russians watch Japanese, Chinese and Korean doramas, Bollywood movies and series (my forever love), Russians watch EVERYTHING xD Everything foreign lol. I even remember Brazilian Slave Izaura, it was broadcast here in the 90s, and Mexican Wild Rose. My grandma was into that and watched every ep xD And my fave movies are Lawrence of Arabia, The Hidden Fortress & The Floating Castle (Japanese, about samurai) and Ofelas (Norwegian :) ). And definitely some Indian ones ;)

Cool Russian movies and shows exist too, but I can’t say that they’re more popular than foreign stuff among people of my age (usually not). Only Brigada (a 2000s show) comes to my head as something outstanding for its atmosphere and realistic details. Since that mass craze about this show I’ve been seriously allergic to its main music theme (it was playing every-freaking-where), but it’s the only Russian show that I enjoyed xD At least its first half.
