Quick tips for OC blogs
1. Make it as easy as possible for newcomers to learn about your character. I can’t emphasize that enough! I have links to Avery's masterpost and his art tag right in my description, and the masterpost starts with a primer to make things a little less scary to wade into. It can be really intimidating and overwhelming wandering into an OC blog when you’re new to it and there’s a billion posts to catch up on; for me personally, if I can’t find out enough to get a decent idea without reading everything in the archive, I get overwhelmed and leave.
2. Clear tags! Worse yet is when there’s no clear tags for the character, or the creator’s art/writing. Ideally have these in your description or a sidebar; at the very least have them consistently on each post. It’s really helpful being able to look at the art that’s been done so far, it’s one of the best ways to get a feel for an OC! Side note: You should also list potential triggers in the tags or the body of the post, if applicable.
3. A big, clean, easy-to-navigate theme is essential, I can't tell you how many times I've gone to someone's blog only to not be able to find their links etc. and given up. Avoid that! Also, be kind to people with low vision and hand mobility issues- I have trouble clicking on itty bitty links because of my wrist issues, for example.
4. If you’re not sure where to start- Make a list of the character's essentials, and release them bit by bit to your audience. Start with a picture and a very brief teaser and work from there! As you go, add what you’ve posted to their masterpost. Don’t leave it too long, or you’ll end up slogging for 5+ hours like I did back when Avery was pretty new lmao.
5. Use your first five tags wisely; they're the only ones who show up in search. I use #yandere and #male yandere a lot, and #guro #gore and #horrorporn if applicable. I started out using #btd oc a lot too, use what you can to help people find you! Unfortunately, with the current state of most social media, it’s harder to get out there, but keep doing that you love and tagging it nicely, and people WILL find you.
6. Interact! One of the ways I’ve found a lot of neat artists is because they drew BTD or CMK fanart, or posted in those tags, or followed me- If you like someone’s character, or think your character and theirs would be interesting together, don’t be afraid to tell them about it, or draw them if you feel inspired! I’ve seen lots of fun interactions happening between peoples’ MCs and it’s so sweet to witness 💕
[DO NOT REBLOG TO SFW BLOGS, THANK YOU]
