Oh what are you writing? Pls tell some more about the project and the characters!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for asking. I’ve been writing about these characters to @stardustheartbeats for a year and a half now and thanks to her it actually feels like a real novel with an arc that I’m writing. I’ve never written any long works of fiction (except for a bit of fan fiction, and even that doesn’t have a real solid plot), but it feels really good to do it!
So the story centers around Markus who is really at a crossroads in his life after he’s kicked out of his house and effectively ends contact with his parents. He ends up moving in with his best friend Nic who he is also pining for, hard. The overall story is about recovery and overcoming trauma and loving where you are and making the most of his life. And these six characters are really the focus and play such an important role in Markus’s development and I love them all. I’ve developed really rich background stories for them all, so if you don’t mind indulging me a bit more, I’m going to gush.
Markus - we talked about him a bit, but he loves music so much and is never seen without headphones around him. He is gay and he skateboards and plays soccer, which is where he met his best friends 🥰
Nic - Nic is simultaneously the coolest person ever and the biggest nerd in the world. He’s bi, loves Star Trek and comic books, and is almost always drawing. He’s a medical illustration student but loves to sketch in his spare time too. He’s smart as a whip and very handsome and he is the best soccer player on the team.
Robert - a horribly great person. He’s the poster child for white privileged, but is so committed to not being that way. He’s a douchebag with a heart of gold. King of parties and summertime, aggressively loves and supports his friends, latent queerness and takes a very long time to come to terms with his sexuality and in the book he sees himself as a Ally™️. He’s terrible and wonderful and I go insane thinking about him.
Louis - actual perfect person. He’s the kindest boy in the world. He was raised by his grandmother mostly, and his mom deals with addiction, but he’s so good and supportive and caring. Lowkey asexual but doesn’t realize it for a long time and doesn’t make it a large part of his identity. He’s awkward and shy and just a sweet boy.
Sarah - aggressively queer. Major feminist. She’s short and angry and takes up as much space as she can. She came into the friend group because she and Robert met in a women’s studies class and they have a weirdly perfect relationship. She’s non-binary and has a fuck you attitude and gets along so well with Markus and the other boys.
June - she’s an actual angel! She’s sweet and kind and truly one of the most gorgeous girls both inside and out. She met Sarah at a poetry reading and they hit it off immediately. She’s bi and she’s a little younger than the rest of them, but she came into the friend group in a whirlwind and adores everyone so much.
That’s the bare bones about them all and I have so much more to say but I’ve rambled on for long enough. Thank you for asking me about them!!

Tagged by @rightsidethru, 10 facts about myself [this is my first time doing one of these things so bear with me].
1) English isn’t my mother tongue but I’m more fluent in it than said mother tongue because I’ve practiced it far, far more at this point.
2) That being said, I like to try to self-study languages because it’s fun. [Duolingo’s awesome.] I’ve got the basics of Russian cursive down but I can’t say more than ‘hi, my name is [x]’ or ‘I eat sushi’. I’m slightly further along in German, more so in French, but still nowhere near fluent and Google translate’s a better bet than asking me.
3) I’m asexual and I’m like 99.9999% certain that I’m aro as well, considering it’s been two decades and I have yet to figure out just what the hell constitutes a crush.
4) I’m a Latina; Mexican-American, to be specific, and I’m oversimplifying some nuances but that’s the easiest way I can put it without devolving into a talk about identities and culture and I’ll just cut it off at that.
5) I’ve done multiple all-nighters, and my personal record involves a finals week in which I stayed up for roughly 76[?ish] hours and I forget how much coffee. [That was a while back. By the way, 0/10 Do Not Recommend, it sucked afterwards and don’t use me as a role model, kids, I’m a Mess]
6) I like just about any music except for country, and even then it’s a case-by-case basis. Language isn’t much of an issue, either, thanks to my attempts to branch out, and turns out I like Russian covers of Skillet songs.
7) 2016 was the first time I got to vote in a presidential election. Fun. [read: fml. For the record, I voted Clinton.]
8) I entered college aiming for a bioengineering major, but I’ve since switched tracks because the second semester of physics + latent personal issues = The Semester From Hell. [Plus a few other things.]
9) I’m a knitter, and am currently working on a scarf for myself because almost every single project I’ve done was a gift for a family member and this time I’m keeping the scarf because it’s getting pretty cold over here.
10) I have a fountain pen I use to take notes sometimes because #aesthetic and anything to liven up the stuff I use for studying. Plus it makes doing homework fun.
Tagging: not sure how this works, but if you want to do it, go for it because I’m new to this kind of thing.
