Winner Gijinka redesign! I like to think they swap between the skirt and pants depending on the challenge.

Uh I don’t know why I thought their old design was ever okay to bestow on human eyes!

Cut below the entire design process (it’s gonna be long)

So I knew immediately after finishing my Loser design I wanted Winner to be the opposite of Loser. Which ment no warm colors, no vest sleeveless thing, no sunglasses, esc. I wanted them to be 80s inspired to match my Loser’s 70s Inspiration! I wanted them to parallel Loser by being so different but the same at the same time. So I wanted to do alot.

I think very clearly with the first ever winner draft (on the right) I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING LOL. I really don’t like it now looking back and it really doesn’t feel like Winner to me. I think just to show how old this is, this was before I even made established age headcanons so I also had no idea how older I wanted Winner to be.

That age headcanon list will probably be shown at another time, I think I showed it once on instagram after somebody asked.

The one on the left I did right after I finished my Loser design and oh my god I also really hate it looking back. I had this idea that Winner’s hair could be the opposite of Loser’s hair where instead of being from like brown to blond and lighter blond it would be the opposite and oh it looked horrible to me.😭

I think also at this point Winner was still just black and not biracial

Now here are what I would call my “Stuck in design hell”. Characters I struggle with immensely when creating a design I think fits/I personally also like for them. It doesn’t mean I have no ideas, some of them I know exactly what I want to do with them but can’t figure out how to emulate it. I ended up abandoning Winner for awhile because they were giving me so many problems because I set so many restrictions for myself which weren’t exactly working.

So then we got this.. I tried to force myself to finalize their design on the spot… bad idea.. worse idea I could ever fathom. I don’t like any of these designs and plus the way I draw now has changed since I made these designs. I had an idea that Winner’s arm could also be translated as one of those super cool arm grabber toys from the 80s which I don’t know, maybe I’ll bring back?? Depends on how I feel about it after focusing on writing more Winner central stories and exploring Winner more as a character and talking to people who really like Winner.

I should also note the inspo for Winner in the fluffy coat and overalls came from the fact that when I was in the movie theater, I saw a kid wearing black overalls and periwinkle jacket and went “HOLY SHIT WINNER TPOT.”

Somewhat unrelated but in this design Winner also became Biracial because @/exitstudent was like “Oh Winner feels afro-Latino to me” so I changed my headcanon almost immediately. This is why I probably shouldn’t have put my race hc chart out so early because my opinions get swayed so easily PLUS I changed a few things around. (Nothing to major, Snowball and Spongey are Wasian now, Donut is Dutch, put Bomby back in Blasian, Gaty is Finnish)

I also had the idea that instead of Winner having highlights (because I highly doubt Winner would go out of their way to highlight their hair) their greying really early on due to stress and poor genetics probably. Another cool parallel to Loser about how Loser’s hair is something he essentially paid for Winner in a way earned theirs. Loser also bleaching pretty much all their hair would also be a cool symbolism for how he’s not the truest to himself while Winner’s still having almost all their natural hair color is symbolism for them being way more true to themself. But that’s for another day to explore.

I tried to interpret Winner’s shape as being kind of like fuzzy fleece on their jacket and I tried to make this work so bad but I really shouldn’t have. I was just all over the place with the colors too.

After design a bunch of the other characters and finding and discovering new ways i like drawing i quickly figured out why I was hating Winner so badly.

It was everything 😭

So after actually after researching 80s fashion instead of half assing it to make it obvious. I drew up these two concepts.

My first realization was “Wow that fleece is ugly as shit.” So I realized I had to stop trying making the fleece work, kudos to anyone who can. But away from the negatives, I really did love the big black Jacket and the legwarmers (I am a sucker for leg warmers so once I put them in them, it was over for me) Something about the headband also struck me because previously I out a strict “no head accessories rule” but honestly? It really just had to be not sunglasses so the headband stayed.

With some color rework and some help from my qpp (Shout out to her, she doesn’t use social media.) We were finally able to get the current design shown!

I guess if I learned anything from this, people should make gijinkas also based off people they know and see in day to day life. Some of my favorite gijinkas are based off people I know. Like Match being an Afro-Chilean Jew is because my friend who actually introduced me to BFDI was a huge match fan, and an Afro-Chilean Jew so I was inspired to make Match look almost identical to them. With Winner I pulled inspiration from alot of popular Black celebrities in the 80s and Chile again because of said friend 80s.

Luke breaking the camp rules that two demigods (with different parents) aren't allowed to be alone in the cabins together to give Percy the shoes in his cabin (as opposed to on the hill like in the book).

Percy wanting to take Luke on the quest but being afraid that Luke would prioritize Annabeth over him.

The jealousy and disgust in Luke's voice during the Iris message when he makes the comment about "when did you two become an old married couple" and the look of equal disgust and discomfort from Percy when he says "gross let's move on from that." (paraphrasing but you get the idea)

Luke influencing Percy so much that the very first words of Percy's book ("Look, I didn't want to be a halfblood") are actually a quote from Luke.

The whole training scene.

Sword under the chin is always hot. Percy's making a face like he knows it too.

When Luke goes to sit on that rock beside Percy, he chooses a spot that lets them sit eye-to-eye but also he rocks toward Percy for a second like he's going to go in for a kiss.

Percy mirroring the head tilt that Luke (Charlie?) does.

Luke's voice full of pride when Percy does good.

The way we can see via body language what book!Percy has been telling us all along: that every time Percy picks up his sword, he hears Luke's voice in his head telling him what to do.

Percy and Luke almost never take their eyes off each other for the whole secret meeting about Clarisse.

They're meeting in the woods at night. Luke didn't even have to bribe Percy this time, he just trotted after him.

Luke coaxing Percy into talking. (in the books Percy doesn't do a lot of talking out loud and Luke actually does break the ice several times because Percy is just standing there staring like a little weirdo [affectionate].).

Fireworks from beginning to end. Love the red and blue ones especially for that bisexual lighting. It was easily the best lighting in the whole show.

"Easy. I just want to show you." Everyone says that the maia scene was the hottest thing Charlie said as Luke but they're sleeping on this. Those are 'gonna take your virginity' words and his tone of voice? Mmm. Yum.

AND it's about his sword? HIS SWORD?! The most phallic weapon of all? Gods help me.

Just an interesting detail but Luke doesn't actually ever point his sword at Percy until Percy attacks him. It really shows that his plan is to convince Percy to leave with him.

"The gods are my enemy. You....." - Luke searching for what Percy is to him. lol I guess it's supposed to be a dramatic pause for dramatic effect but it really just makes it sound like Luke is debating how exactly to define their relationship.

Both of them have watery tear-filled eyes? Excuse me? Cry babies? Yes please. I told all of you so.

Also Luke is comfortable with turning his back on Percy to draw the runes (?) even though Percy drew his sword and is sweating like a sinner in church.

Luke actually proposing that they run away. Together. Just the two of them.

"We"

Percy is literally swaying on his feet. You can see that he's nervous but he also doesn't take so much as a single step backward. He still wants to be close to Luke!

Luke's determination to bring Percy with him. During their fight he does his best to keep Percy between himself and the portal. He even tosses Percy towards it a couple of times. Luke wants Percy to run away with him voluntarily but you can see as the fight goes on longer, he decides kidnapping is an option.

Luke is not leaving without his boy.

The skill difference between Percy and Luke. We see this during training too, where Luke is tossing Percy around and basically playing with him (I mean it's serious training but Luke's skill level is so above that it looks like playing). Luke is not seriously fighting Percy. He's trying to herd Percy into that portal.

The way after Annabeth shows up, Luke's eyes flit down to Percy three separate times. You can visibly see him weighing his options. I think he was debating if he could sling Percy over his shoulder and run into the portal faster than Annabeth could catch them.

"I know Luke wasn't trying to kill me." - WOW what a change from the book. I can't believe they had Percy understand that because in the pit scorpion scene, he did not get it. I'm happy about the change but surprised they made it. (makes me wonder if Percy's the one who's loyalty we're supposed to question instead of Annabeth's as the next seasons come up).

Baz plays the violin still, too, but not as well as he does in canon because he stopped his lessons cold around 12-13, which was also right around when he started taking art pretty seriously. without the Mage's cuts and reforms and shit happening, the school still offered a plethora of creative arts courses to the students, and of course they're not quite like Normal classes 'cause pretty much everything ties back to magic in some way at Watford, etc., but he liked them well enough and they were enough to get him into a good program after he graduated!

about Simon in the AU: so, this is funny. i was actually editing my one fanfic, and i have this section in it that goes: "It is impossible to search the entire Wavering Wood. The environment is too thick with magic, the old and unpredictable kind that used to belong to faeries and fable creatures and all other manner of strange, lost things. Penelope says there are even parts of the Wood rumoured to be untouched by magicians. Hidden meadows and ancient groves and brooks that babble of the future, sequestered away because they never stop moving and changing, because they do not want to be found." and it planted this funny seed in my brain. in the books, fairies are like a lost magical people. Simon tells us that they wandered into the woods for a few centuries and then couldn't find their way back. and i just had this silly thought: "imagine a fairy does the opposite. wandered out, but then didn't know how to find its way back in."

the whole idea of the AU is like... this total whimsy-ass summer Simon and Baz get to spend together.

Baz comes home from school on holidays to visit his family: in winter and spring, that means he stays with his father. but in the summer, he goes to Watford to spend time with his mother (Natasha doesn't actually leave the school very often, she drowns herself in work; Malcolm sees her very rarely these days) but "spending time with his mother" is actually just six weeks of quiet lunches in her office together before Baz goes off to find a good place on the grounds to sit with his sketchbook and his Spotify until he has to go back for an equally quiet supper in her office together. and so it goes: less than a week into break, he decides to spend the afternoon in the Wavering Wood, and by chance, happens to meet Simon. a fairy that walked a little too far for a little too long, and can't seem to remember his way back to where he came from anymore.

and Simon is a fucking pest. but—he's harmless.

and he's pretty.

and Baz actually happens to like the Wavering Wood quite a lot, thank you very much, going back there every afternoon has absolutely nothing to do with anything else, lost fairies or otherwise! 😉😂

Season 1, episodes 1-6

I forgot how good the writing and animation are in the first season, like they truly thrived under aniplex😔 the brief white blood period in I think season 3 shows us just how good we had it

I love seeing Hawk and Meliodas's relationship, and his star Boar earring😭 plus having the Boar hat as the main location is just so comforting !!

Also I JUST realized his name is hawk because of a ham hok😭😭 this is like when I realized toe mater's name was tomato at the ripe age of 18

I miss the holy knights being powerful. Like I get that the Sins are always more powerful than them, had a long way to go in terms of power ups, and meliodas straight up had most of his power sealed but like DAMN. They were so cool in season 1 !! Gil was such a badass😭 I guess I just wish that the holy knights powered up along with the Sins

Seeing the very first episode got me thinking about the original pilot Manga (chapter 0) and how cool it might have been !! Like I love the story we got, but I do think those versions of Mel and Elizabeth maybe would have been better than the ones we got😳 like I just really like Meli's original design, I feel like he looks a bit older, and chapter 0 Elizabeth is simply superior ngl. She's funny, brave, and assertive - a lot more like Liz and goddess Elizabeth, except funnier

The first half of season 1 has one of my fave intro and outros like damn I forgot how fucking cool they were. Some of my fave songs to !! (my all time fave is def howling from season 3 part 2 (i think lol) tho)

The whole perv thing is really exhausting really quickly. Almost surprised 14 year old me made it through this as the 2nd anime I ever watched and the 1st I watched alone

Okay SO in episode 5, when Ban is about to get his scar from the dragon handle sword, he tells Meliodas "you and me have been hanging together for a lot of years now." This scene takes place 12 years before present (bp). Does this mean Ban and Meliodas were friends before the formation of the Sins? Or was Ban the first after him and Merlin? Ban has been immortal 20 years BP, leaving 8 years in between present and the flashback. 8 years before this scene, Meliodas was still in Danafal/Danfor and would be for another 4 years. What does any of this mean? Idk, just thot it was intriguing lol.

Also how did I not notice this is the first time we see demon!Meliodas !! Baby's first sighting as an unnatural creature with otherworldly rage🥰🥰

Also the fact we never see the scar Gil gave him again lol. Plus him presumably needing to do demon mode so hellfire can heal him is actually rlly cool

Just thought about how Elizabeth laying her hand on his chest to check the scar was the first time in years his love touches him with gentleness or concern🥲🥲

The fact that it took me 6 years to realize that when Meliodas says he'll keep the promise he made to Elizabeth, even if she should die is referencing the promise he made to her originally to break their curses🥲😬😤😭😭😭😭

Rather than telling their overseer though, they work together to get the ship turned on, get help from its built in training program, and break out- though the breakout does go wrong and they end up accidently kidnapping their enslaver's daughter. Pursued by their overseer, they decide to flee to the Federation and seek asylum after learning about it from the hologram, and along the way explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, boldly go where they have never gone before

✨️ What draws you towards it/what's interesting about it?

This is what Star Trek fans have been begging for for years! A cast of non-Federation aliens! That's so cool and opens up so many opportunities for worldbuilding! And the constraint of being designed specifically to be a good show for someone's first Star Trek means that they have to focus on telling a good story with compelling characters instead of just throwing nostalgia at you. Of course they do still have nostalgic stuff because old fans will inevitably watch, but the show doesn't depend on that the way a lot of new Trek does. And make a good show with compelling characters they did! That was the strongest first season for Star Trek ever. Holy shit I love these characters and I'm so heartbroken we won't get to see their whole story play out

Sorry to go for sad shit, but Rok coming out of the time loop and Gwyn realizing her father cares more about the ship than her really stick with me. On a brighter note though, I really love Zero breaking out of the Borg's control and Dal and Janeway swapping back bodies

Oh, it's so hard to pick! I love all of these kids so much! If you asked me again, I would undoubtedly give a different answer, but for now I'm gonna go with Rok Tahk. I don't know if she is fat or if her size is normal her species, but she certainly read to the audience as fat. And fat characters are never portrayed as smart and kind and delicate. So to see this little girl who is so wonderful and sweet be told her whole life she's strong and scary because of the way she looks, knowing that's wrong, and finding people who listen to her about that and let her be a soft kid and who encourage her when she finds she's smart and she loves science- that's so special and I'm so glad the kids who did get to see her did. I know she's gonna mean a lot to them too

I feel like it's a cop out to say the villian, but it's the Diviner. He enslaved children. From a doylist, a character is good if they serve their function in the story well standpoint, he's great from. From a watsonian, these kids only ever deserve good things in their lives standpoint? Kill

For context, this is from a couple months ago when I watched the show. It's basically just my commentary as I watched the show so it's a huge mess and has a lot of ups and downs but I figured I'd post it anyways. I didn't edit it so it's just my original commentary in it's raw, natural, tumultuous state.

I actually Cried when Theo's grandma died even tho it wasn't some huge buildup or anything??

I'm loving the French music mixed in with Thai music. It's really pretty!!! A lot of the music is great.

My biggest hang up is just the fact that Akk literally always gave him attention so he didn't really have any reason to do the stunt in the first place? If his reason was just wanting Akk's attention? He had it???

And Akk was SO clearly in love with him, so Theo having been aware that he himself was in love with him too is a little like ?? U wasted yalls time then baby??? But I guess he just wasn't sure and didn't want to assume?

I do see now why Akk had a pained expression when Theo was talking about his parents being in love the whole situation sucks and I wish Theo could've had Akk to be a steady place to lean on in the middle of this, but that wouldn't be enough ~drama~ 🙄😭

Nah this shit made me cry. It's so damn frustrating that Akk thinks HE'S the undeserving one. And I know his sister was being caring but her words didn't help because they only reinforced his doubts. But honestly? It's not his job to fix this mess. He's already put forth all the work, and Theo has been ungrateful and self centered. He never truly acknowledged everything that Akk did for him and instead was so damn entitled. He complained so much about things that Akk had been there the whole time trying to fix. It seriously hurts SO much because Akk is TOO selfless. He's so respectful and caring and generous and kind, so Theo took all that for granted. It's like Theo wanted Akk to beg him to stay, but Akk is so damn respectful that of course he wouldn't. He puts Theo first in every facet and what has Theo done for him? I know relationships aren't a transaction and you don't do something just to get something but ALSO relationships go both ways and one person shouldn't be making all the sacrifices. If Theo actually leaves and they do a bullshit timeskip, I'm done. I'd rather see Akk happy on his own than to see them together if Theo refuses to stop being selfish. I don't want some magic fix where he shows up and is like "haha missed you" and doesn't own up to all his shit but I feel like that's inevitable and I'm just going to be disappointed yet again by a show that was my favorite until they pull the most frustrating shit at the last episode.

I'm quite frankly pissed. WHY THE FUCK did Akk have to take responsibility for this shit? No I'm beyond pissed dude. Theo should've had some eye opening moment and ran his ass to Akk and apologized for taking him for granted. Akk has done all the work in this relationship. He deserves so much fucking better, and the fact that instead of apologizing for making him misunderstand Theo just says he's dumb? No, dude. He had every right to assume what he did. He shouldn't have been the one to mend this. Another goddamn selfish character who stays selfish til the end whilst their partner does everything and STILL ends up apologizing. Akk is the healthiest love interest but damn it this is not a healthy relationship and I've honestly not felt more betrayed.

This shit is exactly why I don't call shows my favorite until the last episode, bc they're almost guaranteed to screw things up. And it sucks because I love this show so much. Seriously, easily my top 3 If they hadn't ruined Theo.

Oh damn, this is much harder question than I thought. My first take was Smoker, but then I realised a lot of characters I adore are in fact Marines, I just don’t think about them as Marines, because they’re not plot-wise put in a role usually taken in the story by Marines.

In the end I will go with Coby, mostly because of the character development he went through and the possibilities the plot already revealed for him. From the point of view of OP universe he - not Luffy - has the biggest chance to be the one who will change the old order for something better. Well, Coby is in fact Luffy, in the meaning of the role he has in the plot - but on the other hand he’s his complete opposite and yet individual character with his own progress and history. I simply love him - as a character and as a representation of Oda’s genius character writing.

👾 - Fave villain?

Doflamingo.

Oh, how I love and hate this wicked monster. He’s one of the best written villains ever and for me a peak of Oda’s master character writing. The perfect backstory which explains but not justifies, which makes you understand and pity him, but doesn’t draw your attention away from all the bad things he had done. The way he matches the one of the main messages the plot of One Piece has - that injustice creates monsters. His design - from his chaotic bisexual style, to his Devil Fruit. His relations with his Family. All those parallels he shares with Law, giving them both amazing plot-wise depth. Oda, in my opinion, is very good in writing villains - but for me Doflamingo is perfect example how every villain ever should be written. And can’t wait to see why Oda spared him - because I’m sure there’s a reason for that. I just hope Law won’t have to be involved in said reason, he had enough.

😭 - Saddest scene?

Okay, first of all - I’m a person who is capable of crying over a toilet paper commercial. I’ve cried over One Piece so many times I can’t possibly count. Heck, now when I know what scene is coming next, I cry even more, so re-reading takes me so slow I’m sure Oda will end the manga before I’ll get through it for a second time xD

This being sad, I still think Sanji’s backstory in general caught me the most. Even now when I think about my hands shake a bit as I’m writing. A lot of personal agenda, so I won’t get into details.

I love Robin’s Hana Hana no Mi. It’s so aesthetically pleasing, yet absolutely horrifying and powerful. Robin is a goddess AND eldritch abomination in the same time thanks to her DF and I absolutely ADORE it.
